    Can always use more hp lol that little tender is hauling the mail lol Maybe need a new impeller with a greater pitch to maxiamis the upgrade. If going over red line rpm at full throttle greater pitch will bring it down and more speed lol. Boys and there toys lol.

  • @artthurman3446

    Nice fun! Not sure if anyone made the point...but a jet drive, as you stated with 50 to 60 hp, is engine power, not thrust. Maybe equal to a 30 hp outboard. My tender was same length, with a 25 hp outboard, (not US legal) would near flip over backward on initial throttle. Never got it to full throttle. Too scary. Jet drives are nice, but not as efficient as a prop. Your tricky wire harness, likely bypassed the ignition rev limiter, thus more rpm...more power. Glad you like it!

    • @chippyjohn1
      @chippyjohn1 Рік тому

      The difference between an outboard and a jetdrive is outboard has more weight at the rear, and the thrust is lower from the hull which has more leverage over the boat. A jet drive creates suction holding the boat down, the engine is further forward, and the thrust is inline with the hull so you can have more power safely. Jetdrives are more efficient also.

    • @artthurman3446
      @artthurman3446 Рік тому

      @@chippyjohn1 I agree with your analogy, mostly. We are building both outboards and inline surface drives, that IMO are the best of both worlds. You claim "Jetdrives are more efficient also." I wonder in what aspects? Fuel efficiency? Forward propulsion? Steering? Would like to know your quick thoughts. My 32 hp Waverunner can hit 60+ with a OEM stock '89 engine and a clunky surface drive unit. The jet unit only produced 35+, but was quicker off the line a bit.

    • @chippyjohn1
      @chippyjohn1 Рік тому

      @@artthurman3446 A jet drive is a shrouded propeller/impeller. Having a shroud eliminates the re-circulation of water around the outer edge of the blade giving the blade a higher thrust to drag ratio. That being said, not all impellers are designed the same. There are many variables, but the efficiency of a jet is higher than that of an unenclosed prop. Comparing a prop to a completely different design jet is difficult, but if two are design to be as identical as possible, a jet will be more efficient. This is why many vessels are turning towards Jets. Jets have only started becoming more popular in the last 2 decades, impeller design prior to this was very crude, where as surface drives have been perfected long ago.

But i need to change the impeller then, to avoid too much rpms, and also change the ingrate to one more «cheesgrade» looking, to get a better grip in small wawes? Any thoughts?

    The key question is how much did the upgrade cost and is it worth it for another 5 MPH? How often do you/will you need the extra boost? I can see it if it allows you to carry extra weight without straining the engine, but it seems like you couldn't even add enough weight to need it based on the size of the boat.

    One should not miss or forget the lesson of the relatively high rate of fatal accidents experienced with powered micro-light aircraft based on hang-glider wings.
    A hang-glider (HG) is a flexible, fabric fixed-wing foot-launched aircraft which is steered by pilot weight distribution and resulting slight wing deformation. Modern HGs are very capable and airworthy aircraft as designed, and when flown within the appropriate performance envelope. However they are fundamentally not meant to be equipped with point power sources such as propeller- or combustion jet-equipped motors, although some people try that from time to time. For safe and properly-controllable flight with point power sources, a rigid airframe is needed to properly contain and control the applied forces. I would think the same concept applies to flexible boat hulls.
    At some point, a rigid hull is needed to properly manage the forces delivered by a marine engine, rather than an inflatable, regardless of the photos one sees from time to time of military sappers bouncing across the waves in their zodiacs. Is a 60-horse rotax capable of causing instability? Who knows - maybe not, but eventually somebody will be tempted to put a V8 LS upgrade into one with less than healthy results.

    Warming up an engine by running it in idle without any load is never a good idea. No matter if it is a car or boat engine. The fuel will wash off the oil from pistons and cylinders and increase abrasion (wear) tremendously.

    • @vxnova1
      @vxnova1 2 роки тому

      This is the first time I have heard that, do you have any reference for this from a manufacturer? My mechanic recommends to warm up as the tolerances of the engine is designed for operating temp, not on cold start.

    • @sailingxtremeadventures542
      @sailingxtremeadventures542 2 роки тому +1

      You may have a point, a light aircraft will idle at 800 rpm but we always warm it up at 1000 rpm also a car with an auto choke will run faster until the engines warmed up and it return to idle.

    • @ops7750
      @ops7750 2 роки тому +2

      @@vxnova1 warming up an engine on idle takes much longer than at about 2 to 3 thousand rpm and under light load. So you reach operation temp much quicker. In cold „mode“ the fuel doesn’t burn efficient, so it washes the oil off the moving part and thins the oil in the oil pan with with un-burnt fuel.

    • @ops7750
      @ops7750 2 роки тому +1

      @@sailingxtremeadventures542 even at 800 rpm the engine is at a certain load due the resistance of the prop. A car /boat engine in idle has as resistance only the inner friction, which is a very small load not helping much to speed up warming up the engine.
