  • We sail to Nassau and on the way we stop at Normans Cay (Pablo Escobar's old island). The island was once the main stopover and re-fuelling point for Pablo's planes traveling to the US laden with drugs. It was estimated that during the late 1970's and early 80's that 80% of cocaine in the US came through Normans Cay!
    We find and snorkel on one of the crashed drugs plane which sits in only a few feet of water.
    The next day we make our way to Nassau and have to cross the Yellow Bank. Yellow bank is a very shallow patch about 20 miles offshore that you have to cross coming from the Exumas. With only a couple of feet under the keel, we have to weave between coral reefs!

    The Atlantis Hotel in Nassau is actually the ORIGINAL Atlantis from 2008 and the same owners opened the Atlantis Dubai as a copy in 2008.

    Thanks for sharing. Your videos seem to be getting pretty professional. I like the way the camera almost splashes the water and then we see the undersea at the crashed plane site. Thanks again!

    I saw the yacht for sale on yachtworld! (660.000 euro’s) Curious to find out what the reason behind the sale is… another boat maybe or, I hope not, some personal reason. Anyway, I wish you all the best and look forward to see more of you guys on YT in the near future!

    Brilliant filming, love the music also. Flipping heck that water is so clear looks only about 2 feet deep.

      Because it so clear it looks very shallow. Takes a bit of getting used to when your sailing!

    Have always been intrigued with Pablo and his export business - difficult to even imagine the money reputedly generated. Any idea what actually caused the plane to ditch? Perhaps he squeezed on one kilo too many lol! The color of the water is truly spectacular. Great edit and video.

    Wonderful as always - good too see your nervous 😅 exploration of the Bahamas - it’s on my wants to travel to once we get our boat, but as looking at fixed keel monohulls in the uk has always wondered if this preclude visiting Bahamian islands. So a good reference for future plans 😀

      We didn't have any trouble at all, just watchign and being careful following the charts and everything was fine and as you saw we are deep, so you shouldn't have trouble.. thanks for watching Mik G..

    I must say James&Phillipa that I really enjoy your videos. I watch other sailling youtubers and they just been were u follow. But I much more enjoy your videos because u show in details for example, u swim next to the plane and thrue the plain and told as a story, not only picture's from a far of the plain like others. Same like your last video u swim inside the cave and told us about James Bond movie a little bit. That's what makes enjoyable to watch u.

    I like the way your platform folds down for swimming and the Dingy. How easy is that! The Airplane is pretty cool. Never heard of the Passage you are taking with lots of Rocks and Coral. Must be a Sailboat thing huh? Been to the Atlantis many times. Got lucky at the Casino slot machine. Have Fun!!

    Going into shallows is very scary if you aren't familiar...or even if you are. We post a watch Everytime going in.

    • @SailingAequus
      @SailingAequus  3 роки тому

      it is scary but I think just being cautious and watching the charts carefully is abslutely ok even in our depth...

    Hi there! If I am not mistaken, the draft of your boat is around 2,50cm (2,52 or so). It looks like the Caribbean sea is mostly quite shallow. Do you think a 3 meter ("just" 48cm more) draft would make a lot of trouble for cruising over there? Sorry for yet another question...

    • @SailingAequus
      @SailingAequus  2 роки тому +1

      Hi SA, James and I haven't had much problem, like any movement on a boat we have been careful, checking the forward scanner/ depth carefully when we go in closer to land etc, we haven't really had much issue to be honest... every foot does make a difference, we really haven't had much issue, if one area of a bay is too shallow we find another spot. we are 2.6 which is 8.5 I think roughly... hope that helps..

    Very nice video! Thanks for sharing it with us. I have a question for you guys, I am planning to sail solo around the world, and have in mind to do it with a Beneteau 55 2015 (It is still a plan). What's your opinion on your experience about the size and characteristics of this sailing yacht, in order to sail solo around the world? I would like to thank your answer in advance. Good winds for you guys!!

    • @SailingAequus
      @SailingAequus  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you Jorge, it is very hard to say as we don't know your ability, you need to make sure you have enough solar, marinas in wind might be an issue on your own, night sails around the world solo will be heavy on you physically, you'll need a water maker, generator etc.....day after day solo sailing for days is going to be physically and mentally tough, solo day sails or two days maybe not too much issue.. sorry cannot help you more on Beneteau's specifically..
