Apisto Group, actually this is not a long forgotten craftmanship, he is using tons of power tools, the tool he tried to duplicate were originally made to perfection in the 18th century BY HAND WITH HAND TOOLS without any power tools.
Granted & agreed but - he still knows how to get the job done even if he took some short-cuts - for me I think the end result speak for itself. I was recently in the workshop of a local wood-worker (Melbourne) and delighted in his hand-made wooden spoke shaves. Q: how long would a video have been if the entire construction was done by hand? You of course are right - I of course remain impressed ;-)
@@goognamgoognw6637 True Goognam, but you must realize that if the 18th century craftsman had power tools they would have used them too. I think it is about the quality of the end product. The pride in doing the job right and the satisfaction you get from knowing you did your best, and end product was better than average.
Nothing better than a man making his own exquisite hand tools.I have not seen better than this other than a bronze body ,which I am certain he would find easier to work than steel.
Some people have no sense of creativity and good workmanship I don't understand why some have given it a thumbs down. Kudos man that is high level workmanship i love it.
Once again you have crafted an elegant and very useful tool. Thank you for taking the time to create and share this video. It is always a pleasure to watch you work. Best regards!
thank you Young i am going to enjoy teaching my grandsons how to do this we have lost the art of skilled tradesmen like yourself to machine made tools is really a shame that the old school arts are being lost for ever
Truly amazing, but what I'm most grateful for is your total unselfishness in sharing your knowledge of such beautifully crafted tools, you are truly a Master, thank you, God bless
Your attention to detail is spectacular. I can only hope that one day I will have the level of skill required to make such a beautiful tool myself. Good show sir!
Even though the quality and general appearance of your projects never fail to impress, I think the thing that I personally find so fascinating is how well refined the simplicity of the techniques you employ to accomplish your goals are. I truly enjoy your videos and look forward to any in the future. This was another great piece of work for what is generally considered “just a tool”.
any idiot can make a Krenov style (glued up pieces) plane. when he makes one with hand tools out of a single block of wood then i'll consider it "great"
Nice! Are you using White oak for the base? I have blade material coming for my shoulder and rabbet plane builds. I won a nice group of well care for wooden hand planes recently and after sharpening the irons and tuning up the jack, jointer and two smoothing planes and then using them I was very impressed and now have the bug to build my own!!
Love the design; the contrasting woods make it pop. A beautiful tool to look at and I'm sure it's a pleasure to use. Thanks for sharing your obvious high skill level. Best wishes
Beautiful, you are a craftsman. Have you ever thought of using a straw to remove glue? You can push it in de corner on difficult places, it's very flexible, and afterwards you can blow out the glue. :-)
Oh, damn it! _that's another thing I will have to try and make for myself! It was a beautiful job and an absolute delight to watch-thanks for sharing your skills and artistry with us.
I love your job! Well done! Congratulations! Questions: 1) Can you inform the angle for the iron blade from the bottom? 2) Can you inform the dimensions of the iron blade? I wanna try to do a similar for me in Brazil.
Simply beautiful yet again another masterpiece you are definitely my favourite craftsman and you give me such inspiration thank you for your time in giving us these videos and I look forward to your next work of art
Excellent craftsmanship! You have made many tools and jigs. Now it is time for you to design and build some furniture for yourself and your children homes!
Great Workmanship ... What a craftsman.... TAKES A PLANE to MAKE a PLANE ... LOL ... Question .. Did you make the blade or can you furnish a source for the Steel portion of this tool ?
I love these instructional videos, this is a tool I already have as a stanley 45 , 55 , and 90 but I will definitely hand make this, its just so pretty. What timbers did you use, was it ash and walnut, thats why some dialogue in your post can benefit your subscribers!
The first thing our teacher told us, young students, is that you never come to the machines with long sleeves and cuffs. But the work is really wonderful.
0:19 - some would argue that you're using the ruler wrong. try lining up your length / 'number' with the edge of the material and then strike a line off the start (zero) of the ruler - basically ; turn it around. this eliminates one lining-up error.
Nicely done! I like the design, but could you clear something up? If i'm understood correctly front of the bottom, before the blade is usually little bit higher compared to rest of the bottom, so excess material is fed to blade, but not too much. I didnt see you make it into this plane, could you elaborate why is that?
Hello, excellent as all your videos. and, I hope that soon you upload a video of, "how to do all the tools with which you do so many things". best regards
Young did you create the design from scratch or was it from something you had previously seen? Either way very nicely done! Most impressive !!! Thank you !
this video is a fantastic gift to the world - a fabulous demonstration of close to long forgotten craftsmanship = sensational.

You are a true craftsman my friend........beautiful as usual.

Really nice tool. If you curve up the side of the wedge, it will automatically expel the waste.
Awesome looking Plane , would look great on a Tool Shelf in a Shop or Display cabinet, wonder if it would work paring back Shoulders on a Oak Tenon .
Young Je you have incredibly beautiful hand workmanship. If you share the plans of these beautiful products you do, we can do it ourselves.
No silly music, no narration saying what he's doing, when we can see what he's doing. Superb.
This is engineering in wood.
Young Je, You are an amazing artist/woodworker and craftsman. Thank you so much for sharing this. I look forward to all of your videos.
Young Je I'm a 25 year carpenter and your work is very good!

I need one of these and since this involves zero metal work, I am confident that I can build it. Thanks for the inspiration sir.

If we had lost the art, Mr Young here wouldn't be able to make the plane. The fact that he did make it shows that the art is not lost...

That works for a power jointer and to a lesser extent on a power plane, but not for hand planes.
I could make an ordinary benchplane, but this kind of specialty plane, I prefer to buy. But you made a beautiful shoulder plane!
