A thing of beauty, simple, elegant and practical. Thank you.
Nice looking plane ! If I may share some informations . A Japanese plane iron is wedge shaped(tapers in thickness), which is what holds the blade in place(wedged in the groove), and also has a scooped back(Urasuki) to make flattening the back easier.
As for the body, the sole is not flat the entire length , but it's scooped out so that there're really only two or three sections touching the wood when planing, to reduce friction and make the feel of the cut dramatically lighter .
Thank you, those small details make a difference in the performance of the tool.
Turned out very well! Nice work. Thanks for sharing.
A very nice bit of work there, beautiful and functional.
That is a beautiful plane. Now I want to make my own, too.
Beautiful work. I am going to try it too. Very nice plane.

what a great talent thanks for sharing.....have a good day
Thank you
You make it look so easy. I'd buy one from you because then I won't have to fix the lazy factory work of a store bought one.
WOW!! That came out beautiful and sharp too. Great video, thank you!
Trabalho perfeito, parabéns!
Great job
very nice marvelous job
good job!
Thank you sir....
Thank you. I am going to try and make one of these next 😁.
good luck. Thanks
Exelente trabalho amigo parabéns
Obrigado
Great 👍
Wonderful
Excellent work good job sir.
Thank you
Excelente..!!!!
Obrigado
Bela plaina. Parabéns
very very very good of job
Sterling job. Any numbers on dimensions and angels? Would be much appreciated as I'm about to make my first plane soon and is considering the options btw a Japanese vs a Western(-ish) model.
Mine has a 45-degree bed angle.
The way you works looks very safe.
Great job!
Where can you get the blade sets?
I watched a guy in the jungle(on yt) make one of these with nothing but a nail, malket, chisel, and a large knife.
His worked fine so i dont know who's is best.
*GLUES THEM UP TOGETHER*
HA, GENIUS!
Nice👍
Nice.
more then awesome
Thank you
And I think to myself... what a wonderful plane...
I see it bloom for me and you. Thank you
Obrigado
Gorgeous I would like to know the wood density
Nice tool, congratulations and thank you for this video. Why do you scrape underneath, is it to minimize friction? Thanks.
Yes. The Kanna planers are like this.
It’s a great work but far from Japanese Kanna. I’m a Japanese carpenter in Kyoto, Japan .
Polish and shine the blade and chip breaker to a mirror finish.
What angle is the blade set at?
Probably 30 or 25 considering Japan style
very good work ! what is that for wood?
Good job and nice plane!
Excellent job if you’re selling that planers how much does is cost. Thanks for your video!
Thank you. I'm not selling this planer. But I will sell the blades soon. On etsy.
Top Top Top 👌👌👌👍👍👍
Beautiful plane! what is the purpose of having a concave sole?
To reduce friction
kim-o-fuz
All Japanese planes are built like that. They do the same with their chisels too.
Bellissimo.
Obrigado
I didn't see your Kanna in the etsy store. I would love one that size. Please consider adding one.
Ok. Thank you
Cestitke za rad interesuje. Me pod kojim je kutom spiljeno drvo gdj ide noz pozdrav
may i ask you where did you get those kanna blades? thanks
Obrigado. 45º
A very nice bit of work.
What is the size (height, thickness and width) of a cutting blade and subblade that your friend forged? Thank you!
10 cm * 4.8 cm * 0.7 cm. Thank you
Size (height, thickness and width) of a subblade? Thank you!
@@Apucik I can not answer that now. I do not have the plan with me
Where to buy the iron ? Very nice kana and fully efficient.
In a few days I will put the link to access the purchase. Thank you.
You can make your own rather easily. Buy O1 tool steel bar, grind the bevel, and harden it using a torch forge and quench in motor oil.
Why were you using the card scraper on the bottom of the plane fro about 1/2 on both ends.
Thanks
Save me ton of money
A Krenov Kanna? Curious if a laminated “traditional style” Kanna can be done?
Minchia che sei bravo!
What are dimensions of original block of wood? What ought I to use in "search " on etsy page?
the dimensions are: 28cm * 6cm * 4cm
I do not have anything related to planer for sale on etsy.
I intend to put on sale in a few days the blade of the planer
Looks great but i'll stick to something with a tote and knob. gripping a Kanna really hurts the hands after awhile
it is true
Hi what kinde of angels it need to have
woah
👍
How's the multi-piece construct holding together after removing the blade several times?
Wood glue is stronger than wood so probably working just fine
👍👍👍
What was the card scraping for?
Your gona have a bad kickback if you dont get that miter guage out of yhe way
Fingers too
Japanese??🤔🤔🤔🤔interesting!!🤔🤔
do you sell this please
Obrigado!
Eu não vendo a plaina. Mas tenho ferros para vender.
@@FromTheWood Como faço pra adquirir, bem como preço! Obrigado!
Many Japanese speakers commenting that it's not proper - most complain that yours is made of glued three-piece wood and not out of a single piece. The second common point being the blade of yours is a flat piece of solid metal. The Japanese blade is laminated and very slightly concave on the back.
Yeah, I know that. Even if it was made according to all Japanese methods, it would still not be a Japanese planer. It would always be a Portuguese planer !!
I dont care. It works and the blade is optimal. It was a friend of mine, a blacksmith, who made them.
@@FromTheWood Then if you know all this, why call it a Kanna?? It's clearly not, it's a plane made (loosely) in the style of a Kanna. You even call it a Japanese plane in the title. It's a poor imitation, nothing more...
Hi, really nice job. Just a couple of consideration. In my opinion, the mouth on the sole is a little bit too large, so it doesn't work too smooth on the wood... 2nd, the chip breaker is too thick... But as already said, these are only my opinions. Very good job
MP Creazioni Legno
That’s a pretty typical thickness for a chip breaker on a Japanese plane.
Thanks 😉
Thought this was about a airplane lol
Chris Lim
It is! Didn’t you see the wings? 😉
Explanations? Any?!
nice but were orden plae blades wood canmade but not blade
And the first thing we see? Loose shirt sleeves flapping around.

What is the essence? I would like you to explain. Thank you.
@@FromTheWood

It is very sad to see this type of videos that damage the reputation of Japanese carpentry because that you made has nothing to do with a true kanna (Japanese plane)
Sashimono. Kumiko.
It does nothing to the reputation of Japanese kanna for people to show their western interpretations of the design. It’s obvious to everyone that it’s not a fully traditional kanna.
