    Just put down 900 sq ft of vinyl plank flooring. This is what worked well for me. Instead of using those aggravating little black spacers that never stay up I used a couple pieces of scrap 1/4 plastic strips cut 1 inch wide and four feet long. Instead of using a tapping block and a hammer I used a 1x4 cut 24 inches long and took the plastic handle off of an old trowel to make a tapping block.To tap the planks together. Much easier and only requires one hand instead of two. Plus you don't have to keep looking for that hammer that never seems to be in arms reach.

    I’m glad you mentioned ear protection. A lot of guys think being tough means not protecting their hearing 🤦🏻‍♂️

      As a landscaper in my 20's I saw this a lot.....also not wearing sun protection. By 30 to 35 years old a lot of those guys were not hearing as well and looked terrible....like they were pushing 50 +. I wore a large Chinese-style hat that kids laughed at and always used ear plugs. Guess what, I'm 54 and young women still check me out....and I can hear them....LOL. I'm not gloating, it actually makes me sad they chose that path of "being manly" b/c there's no rectifying what they did to themselves. It was anything but manly....just stupid, honestly.

    I’m a sound engineer and the reverberation in my rooms drove me crazy. Put up any and all soft goods that you can onto the walls, including blinds in the windows, use packing blankets if you can, or very thin rugs, old sheets, whatever you’ve got, shiny is bad, soft and fluffy and dense is good. Break up the corners too. It works dramatically, it zero soft floor covering with zero soft ceiling covering is a bad recipe for noise. So I kept a narrow runner opposite where I was working and that helped a lot. Or even on the new flooring you just did, it will really help, because the relatively smooth surface of the new flooring is much more reflective than most plywood sub-flooring. Whew! I blessed with golden ears and cursed with golden ears. Ugh. Yay.

    Did you find your cut offs and full length pcs repeating? Your starting row, second piece had about a foot cut off which you started row 2 with. You added a full piece next. Im guessing you still had to cut your next piece as well. Eventually I expect you had cuts repeating. True? And I believe your cut ends are only against the walls? What did you mean by the direction of your house? Thx.

    • @FixThisHouse

      Hi! Thank you for watching! No need for underlayment because the pieces have already built on padding. If your subfloor is uneven would suggest using filler material or replace the badly warped boards.

I remember about 15 ueara ago I installed laminated flooring in small livi g room and I was having lots of pieces left, I forgot what I was doing wrong. Lol. Iam assuming I have to remove old laminated flooring to install new one or do u know if I can install new old on top of new one?

  • @beez7753
    @beez7753 2 роки тому +3

    You should be building each row clicking all end joints together first at an angle. Than tilt the entire row up at an angle and install the entire row. Your breaking the locking lips off closing those end gaps, which will definitely leave a gap over time. It is actually faster to install as well.

    • @vadimnesen8060
      @vadimnesen8060 Рік тому

      No. Different floors have different types of connections. Luxury vinyl planks are a newer kind go see what they look like at the store

    • @beez7753
      @beez7753 Рік тому

      @@vadimnesen8060 I’m a flooring installer, going on 25 years now. I install lvp several days a week. I am well aware of the different locking systems. However like I said on this locking system there is a lip at the end joint to lock them in place. When he smashes those together he’s breaking the lips. It will take time but they will come apart at the end joints as the floor moves over time.

    • @warwickwas
      @warwickwas Рік тому

      Overall he has a good video, but he conveniently leaves out the actual way to join the pieces (The most critical part). The planks are joined by angling in the side AND angling the end piece, it's sort of impossible. (The video conveniently jumps from ready to install to the piece already fitted at 6:58, 7:46, and 9:09). This is the hardest thing to do for beginners, yet those important bits are missing. I totally agree with your point on doing a whole row together. That would work fine. The only issue with that is you might need 2 or 3 installers when the room is long (Like mine - Hallway is 9.5meters - 31 feet).

      So when it comes to luxury vinyl floor planks, they usually come with the moisture barrier already on them. It’s that black padding you see in the video.
      Glue down vinyl usually require the underlayment

    Extremely informative and thorough video. Question: does the floor under must be 100% leveled or can this type of flooring will work on a semi level floor?

      Thank you so much! My floors weren’t 100 percent level. If you have a major dip or a huge dimple on the floor I would suggest to use wood filler to level it out first 👍🏽

    Great video! Do you have a video on how to do the transition at the doors? Also, I will be laying on a slab, should I put a barrier down?
    Thanks.

    wouldnt you want the small cut pieces, that you used on the next row to be on alternate ends of each row? So that one side of the row doesnt always start with a small cut end.
