Spent 2 days trying to install just one plank, after my friends got me started. For two days I tried and tried just ONE PLANK, watching many videos, trying different angels, using a different plank, changing the angle of the mallet. I just wanna take all the planks and toss them on the grass and light them on fire. This exposed my lack of patience and lack of skills, but I did remove all my floors and baseboards with zero help. Sometimes, u gotta know when to say when. And if it’s taking me two days with zero progress, it just means the rest of the floors will be off…hire a professional contractor or this guy in the video when it doesn’t feel aligned…and don’t bring down the value of your floors…props to all the peeps who can do this.
I installed the same flooring in a Christian academy school house 8 years ago and it still looks great. Thanks for your videos they are so valuable to a lot of people with not so much experience.
I’m glad it’s still looks great! You are welcome, I’m glad you are enjoying these videos! it’s amazing how quick this flooring goes down. Thanks for watching!
Hey Josh, great video! I recently tackled a similar project in my basement using LifeProof vinyl plank flooring as well. I can attest to how easy the click-lock installation is, especially on a concrete subfloor. I went with the "Sterling Oak" color as well, and it looks fantastic! The attached underlayment really helps with comfort, especially since we spend a lot of time down there. I did run into a bit of trouble around a couple of door frames, but your tip about undercutting the drywall was spot on-it made the installation smoother. One thing I learned the hard way was to really clean the concrete before starting. I thought I'd vacuumed well enough, but some dust ended up creating little bumps under the planks. If anyone’s doing this, make sure the surface is immaculate! Thanks for sharing this detailed guide; it’s super helpful for DIYers like me. Looking forward to more of your content!
Another great DIY video. Detailed, comprehensive, and really well-shot. I'd love to see how you'd tackle vinyl flooring over a wood subfloor, especially an older, uneven one.
I would do the same principal as I did in the video. I would address any major humps and bumps, but let the gradual unevenness go. I’m glad you really liked the video! Good luck through project!
thank you for making these awesome videos. Please make a video series of Basment build for Canadian homes (extreme winter climate) on a new unfinished basement covering all aspects from insulating below grade walls the right way to the end product. I know a lot of people will appreciate these videos. Cheers!
I have vinyl plank flooring throughout my house. I love it! It's the easiest type of flooring to install. It gives the appearance of wood flooring without the expense. Plus, it's waterproof, unlike real wood flooring. For future reference, the side of the plank that you called the "tongue" is called the "groove" and the side you called "flat" is the tongue. You do such a good job with your camera work and instructions. Very professional.
It is really nice stuff I agree! When I saw hardwood floor, it’s called the tongue and groove side. That makes sense in this case. It is not the exact same as hardwood floor. Thanks for letting the audience know. Good luck with your project!
Thanks a lot! The half bath definitely will add a lot of value to this structure. I tried to explain everything to where most people can understand it no matter their background of knowledge. Appreciate you watching!

Now onto baseboards. lol All your info fills in the blanks and shines a light on things I worry about because I don’t know.. but now I know. 😀😀😀

It is so easy to work with compared to other flooring! I really do enjoy how tough this floor is as well. Definitely can tell the longevity will be there. Thanks for watching!
I’ve laid a lot of this same brand floor but there are more tricks to get this floor down. Be patient and it should be fine, don’t force or you’ll break the edges off
It’s not a 22 millimeter wear layer. It’s a 22 mill as in thousandths of an inch. Building my first house now and should be installing the flooring in a couple weeks. As usual your video is right on time. Thanks! ✌🏻🇺🇸
Very interesting I did not realize that. Thanks for bringing that to my attention! Congrats on building your first house! due to excessive concrete moisture and no underlayment my 5 year old vinyl plank floor is getting bad. What can be done to make the floor last for another few years? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I just learned a half assed way of installing this the other day without using rubber hammer and the two taping blocks and no spacing. Is the proper term vinyl taping blocks??? I would like to order these soon.
Duh... I looked in your description. Thanks for the help. What do you think about using a rolling mechanic seat that is low to the floor? Do you think this would be easier on the knees?
Sounds like you found the link the description. I’m glad I was able to help you out. I have never installed Flooring using a mechanic seat. I feel like it could be hard on your back. Everyone is different. Thanks for watching!
Im not planning to remove my baseboard trim before installing my lvp. However, the baseboard trims are installed high enough off the ground to where i can easily slide the lvp under if needed. To account for expansion, I plan to just lay the lvp edge flush to where the baseboard ends so there'll be atleast 1/4-1/2 of space to the drywall. Ill cover this up after with shoe moulding. Would this method work fine if i prefer to not remove the baseboard trim?
Hey- question on drywall gaps at floor level. I have 2 walls with a drywall gap of 1/2” and depth of 3/4” if you push the LVP into it. Wondering if I should put something in the gap? Thinking over time if I don’t flooring will move into the gap causing problems. Thoughts?
Would you recommend putting this in a house that will be used as a rental? I always think the worst and I wouldn't want to get a tenant that would run water all over it and I'd end up having to replace it all with the cost of all the material.
Just bought a house that had that garbage installed on the floor and when I removing it, boy to my surprise, I found mildew underneath the flooring. Replacing it with tile.
About to install this myself and my handy man friend said you should put down 3m black sheet, is that not needed or just overkill for water protection?
The floor Planks have it already attached on these planks - That's the black surface underneath the planks that you see in the beginning. Some planks don't have it and that's when you need to provide a moisture barrier.
That’s what I thought but I asked a flooring community on Facebook and everyone (15+) said it still need the moisture barrier in addition to the Lifeproof barrier.
@@mrreams711 this is what the instructions say with my 22 MIL LifeProof with underlayment attached: □ Flooring should not be exposed to extremes of humidity or moisture and products must be installed using an appropriate moisture barrier
Looking to install lvp on concrete as well. I read that if installing in a basement you will want to build a subfloor on the concrete as well to leave an air gap so the concrete can breathe and wick the moisture to the outside walls of the house .
I love vinyl plank flooring, ive installed alot of it, and please no one ever buy "waterproof" laminate flooring, absolute garbage and pain to install, and will definitley fail in time. If your gonna buy "fake" flooring why would anyone consider laminate over vinyl plank? Basically the same price, it actually is waterproof, stronger, and doesn't expand and contract in different seasons anywhere ( tested as only 1/4 of how much laminate does so basically none) as much as sawdust made products lol. No brainer.....
I agree with you! I’m not a fan of laminate flooring at all. It’s not near as tough nor does it with stand water as well as luxury vinyl. I agree with you it is a no-brainer! I used to think non-wood floor such as this would not look that great but I was wrong! It looks awesome! I’m glad to see your comment here. Thanks for watching!
Using this garbage in my basement, I can't figure out why it won't snap into place/why it keeps popping up. Sure wish I could use real wood and an air nailer, but I'm on concrete so I'm stuck.

Hey my friend, don't you need a vapor barrier over the concrete floor before installing the vinyl floor?

Forgot to add the other walls are what you would expect with a minimal gap.
If there are baseboards, would we have to remove that before installing?
What blade are you using for your multi tool?
How do you feel about laying LVP over a laminate floor ? Laminate is good shape, just wanna go with something else..
it cuts easier than hardwood floors a d some of us with canine families it makes sense 😊
No vapor barrier or subfloor on concrete ?
What would you use to transition/finish up to a bathtub/shower pan?
