Hello.Excellent video👏. Could I please ask if it is possible to lay glue down flooring over existing vinyl tiles? Thanks if you can answer👍
Yes you can. I am planning to do that in my next commercial project. This glue is very sticky.

Very nice video, thank you.
Thank you for the feedback!
great video ..... question though does it matter weather or not the basement slab has a vapor barrier under it ? because most homes do not have that like mine that was built in 1952
Good quiestion. Not sure how much moistrure is in your slab and how high might me moistrure transfer but I install this floor in 1962 home of my brother in law and he never had a problem with it or with moisture so far.
I would do it.

Can you do a follow up video showing transition to carpet and/or other tile flooring? Also how transitions to carpet on stairs. Thanks!
I have a manufactured home and underneath the carpet is wood. can I apply this to wood and it stick.
It should work yes, use any “pressure sensitive” glue. Many flooring stores will be able to sell you this kind of vinyl tile glue. I installed some on OSB subfloor and worked great. Dry time is shorter than on concrete because wood is porous. Try it on one piece to see how it looks.
Can you apply the glue over old glue down vinyl?
You might be able to place a plank right in to the old glue as it might be active still. If not yea you can, just don’t go to tick!

@@TheHandyNeighbor Thank you sir! Its old glued down vinyl from the 90s/early 2000s. Trying to see if its worth leaving it or removing it before installing the new glue down vinyl planks. Subscribed 👍

Great instructional video!
I worked in the flooring industry for a few years, and I have seen installers trying to rush the job and lay glue down vinyl improperly, only to have to scrape it all up and start again.
Well done.

I had glue down vinyl flooring in my house 10 years ago. Best flooring for basements by far. I will be installing myself this time in my son’ basement so your video was very useful indeed. I have liked and subscribed … thx for posting
How long does the glue remain tacky for you to work with after it’s spread?
It does not completly dry at all.
Can you lay this type of flooring over plywood?
Yes you can, I did it at the landing/entrance where it is all playwood subfloor.

Very thanks! I will have a project lvp glue down in Chicago, commercial labor.
I give them 2.75$ a sqft labor cost, how much u charge? Thanks
It is a lot cheaper in Canada, it goes around 1.50$ sqft for labour.
2.75$ for sure, why not, give it a try, they pay for your skills 👍
Nice video! I'm a handyman but first time doing this. However, the owner had to pull up the existing vinyl plank floor and there is glue residue. If I'm going to reinstall new planks over the existing glue which is tacky, what would you recommend? Scrape as much glue off as possible then apply more glue over the top?
You can place a few planks over it, and try to move it with your foot. If it is not moving and plank sits locked than you can still use it, save lots of time. Or maybe add some more glue where needed, thin layer.

I needed this ..I'm going to be doing this real soon . You are very good with explaining .. I now have an understanding .
Thank you for the feedback!
So it's better to install the soft planks with glue? Is there any need to use glue with click-lock LVP? Especially in commercial settings ...
On concrete that is not 100% leveled yes it is better. In most of commercial places you will find this kind of flooring not click vinyl.

How long would you say an area like you just did would take to install? a couple hours including drying time of glue?
Give it a full day for sure just to be safe.

@@TheHandyNeighborcorrect, I was just seeing if you could teach us how to.
With the advent of Lvp and modern laminates I don’t understand the reasoning for using glue down flooring. Is it a price point?
Mostly you want to use glue down flooring on basement concrete floors as they are usually not leveled at all, and with LVP or laminate you can get many soft spots as there is some wiggle room everywhere what can cause click flooring locks to disengage and get loose after few years. As well another adventage of glue down is if you get a flood in the basement you can just mop it and done, while in the case of LVP water can go under the flooring so you might have to remove to dry the floor.
@@TheHandyNeighbor good point on the flooding aspect. I know for a fact glue down plank is cheaper then ceramic tile if you have to pay somebody to install it. In my area glue down anything has been dead since the 90’s.
Hi. What about over previous peel and stick??
Don’t waste your time with a tape stack one on top of plank on ground use a second one to the wall to get the length mark it cut it.
I wish you would have shown how to finish and measure the last thin part near the doorway.
I know what you mean. Thank you for the feedback!
No knee pads! Your one tough guy. 😜
I read *PRANK* 😂
You can walk on the glue after 30mins
Do not walk on the glue. Walk in the floor after laydown the planks.

Since this is glued directly onto concrete, how difficult would it be to take it up and replace the entire floor? I assume you'd have to scrape all of the old glue off?
Well it would take some effort for sure. You don’t have to scrape off the gloor, just place click vinyl or laminate over it. No problem.
5:40 nice new hole in the plank below lmao
What do you mean?
@@TheHandyNeighbor your blade hit the plank that is laid on the floor, when you cut the one from above
Yes you are right. That is the part where we have to careful. Thanks
You could have used pressure sensitive spray adhesive
I'm surprised you didn't show making the end seams of each plank offset.
It is hard to record every single thing while trying to get the job done in clients home. That is why.
Could you install over osb? I live in a 2 story home
Super easy, thanks for the info mate. Question: how long it took you to cover this hall area, including the 30min time for the glue to get sticky?
Hard to tell now for sure you will need some time to prep everything and make a first setup. You should be done before lunch with a setup of first couple of rows. It took me two days for entire basement.

Excellent! Exactly what I needed. Great communication and very good camera work.

Thanks
Thank you. Can you describe your process for laying glue down LVP over OSB?
Same way 100% nothing different.
Thank you. No priming or anything? Some are saying you need to put down 1/8" plywood or self leveling concrete first.
Very nice job! If one of the tiles gets damaged later, can the damaged tile be removed by a heat gun? I know peel and stick can but will this type of glue soften with heat? Liked/Subbed.
It will stay partially sticky so if that ever happens just remove the plank and insert a new one over.

@@TheHandyNeighbor Thanks!
Do you leave an expansion gap around perimeter
Expansion is minimal, 1 milimeter maybe. So you leave 1/8 or 1/4 of an inch max.
I had house replumed and they ripped out floor in bathroom. I had glue down tile all over house. I just have to repair the area they ripped out. Do I have to wait for concrete to set before applying this adhesive and installing the tile where they ripped it out?
Well it needs to be dry and solid. Like wait for couple of says at least.

good job sir, do i need to use a roller after vynil is set, i cant find one anywhere here in Mexico?

Im going to put this on concrete which had carpet glued down to it. Does the floor need to be completely clean of all the old glue?
Great idea. It will work well.
Please like and subscribe! Thanks!
Great video. I'm wanting to do the same. Glue down Vinyl in my basement directly on concrete. What's the disadvantage of doing so without a subfloor? Thanks!
Nothing much, they say it might make it warmer on your feet and that is it. On the other hand id you get the flood or sewage backup it will all go under the subfloor and wood will absorb the water and swell. Here when you apply the glue on concrete and install plank over it you just have to mop it and that is it, no water will come under the plank as you do not leave any space under the plank.
Good luck!
Could you tell me if it's worth using waterproofing membrane such as dunlop damp proof waterproofing product on concrete slab? Before gluing down vinyl planks.
You can give it a try. Glue will stick to it after membrane is dry. Glue and vinyl plank is membrane on by itself in some sort of way. Not sure how much moisture you get in your floors, mine are dry but pretty cold. If concrete is not wet just keep it simple.

@@TheHandyNeighbor thankyou,
Great video. I am going to install over concrete 5mm, loose lay vinyl flooring. Manufacturer also suggests double sided tape. Your toughts?
I am not sure where they want you to put double sided tape, but I don’t think it will work for concrete. Glue on bare concrete will be more than enough to hold this floor in place. I am still very happy with all my installs.
Awesome…I’m a lady in my late 50’s and I think I can handle this job! Thank you for sharing!
Go ahead, for sure you can! Let me know if you have any questions.

I’m a 61 yr old lady and I’m finishing my second room along with the hall way. It’s easy. I can’t do an entire room in one day, this lets me work in smaller sections. I lay out and pre cut a section, then glue. The next day a precut and fit the next 6-8 rows, and the following day I glue down. Working just an hour or so a day I just did an entire room this week. I’m getting ready to put down the moulding to cover the gap and I’m done.
Go go lady.
What is the brand of LVP used in this video?
Uf.. I am not sure bud. Sorry was a while ago.
I've heard others say that you have use a roller afterward. Is that not required?
Just walk all over it, you might have over 170 lbs that is more than enough. You will save to money not renting roller and effect is the 100% the same.
@@TheHandyNeighbor Thanks, that's good to know. I appreciate the great instructions overall.
@@TheHandyNeighbor got it Thanks!!!
How long do you have before the glue is no longer tacky? Do you have to do it all like in a hour?
More than that, it does not dry 100% don’t worry you have plenty of time.

@@TheHandyNeighbor thank you for the reply I just subscribed another question what adhesive should I use when using 1/4 underlayment plywood?
@@nimster64 you can still use the same glue. This thing is sticky as hell. Thanks!
I would go directly on concrete with vinyl I would not add any underlayment.
@@TheHandyNeighbor thank you the subfloor is 3/4 plywood. And ontop of the 3/4 I was going to add the 1/4” plywood underlayment. I don’t have concrete. It is a raised sunroom in Chicago
Sure no problem, this glue will work, CUSTOM has a good flooring glue as well that is very sticky too.
Great job! Is there an underlay available for this flooring to make it a bit warmer on a concrete floor? (It’s for a living room in Scotland 🏴 🥶)
Thanks. I don’t think there any underlayment for the concrete floors. Carpet over once you are done 😀

Do you use any sort of vapor barrier before applying the glue?
No no 100% not, glue on bare concrete.

Do you leave any space between each plank for possible expansion so it doesn’t buckle?
No, let them sit in the warm house for a couple of days before tou install them so they naturaly relax in the warm house. Install them like that tight to each other.
If they shrink im the winter time it will be minor and you home is always warm anyway.

Forever practicaly, based on product quality. All daycares and commercial places have this, so it does take a lots of traffic.
Great tutorial do you recommend uzin ke 2000s
It is presssures sensitive so same thing, why not! I would try!

did you prime the concrete?
No I did not. I used flooring glue only. It is still perfect few years after it will not go anywhere.

Hey my friend i finished one room, do you recommend coating vinyl tile with polyurethane for protection?
Not sure, I never tried that.
@@TheHandyNeighbor i seen a video about that, i ll look more into it👍
How do you apply glue under the door jamb?
No need, just spread it all around the jamb and once you set the plank and slide under the jamb it will not move.
What do you put incase there are gaps on the floor?
Not sure how deep is the gap. Probably nothing if you can lay the plank over it.
Take a look of my other video, I had a big gap here on my project.
ua-cam.com/video/IpdCUsaqALU/v-deo.html
Can you pour thin set first to make it nice and even ?
Yes you can for sure. But if you don’t want to you don’t have to for this floor. This is like a rubber and will follow every curve. For vinyl click it is highly recommended to level it first.
Since this is concrete, did you use primer?
No no primer needed at all. Just scrape off any mud, dirt or stuff like that with mudding knife or spatula and that is it. Vacuum the floor.
Glue is very sticky, you can use anywhere, concrete or wood subfloor.
Will there be gaps over time like I see in other videos?
No, did now happen to me even once. I heard about it but in my case it is not noticable at all as it is less then 1 mm. I did several of these with the same floor and I had this floor in my business (different brand of the glue down plank) and in all these cases I did not have this problem like some are saying.

So where you start and glue down the first 2 planks. Then when you start the rest won't the glue on first part be dry when you start the rest? How do you ensure it won't cause a seam to appear between first 2 planks and the rest?
Im doing a huge room and also wondering if I can do half one day and half the next? Where on stops and you begin the rest the next day how do you do it?
Yes you can. Don’t go to far with the glue in that case. Lay one row of planks far as you want, mark it where it ends and apply the glue only up to that sport where your plank will and or one inch over.
I like to start in the hallway in the middle of the space but make you you pre-lay few planks to se where it ends.
If the glue is dry it will be sticky for a long time so you will be ok.
Thank you so much!

Do you not use a weighted roller?
You totally don’t have to. You can walk all over it once ypu are done with each section. Bang every plank with the palm of your hand or fist after you glue it down and walk over it later.
Or rent a roller from home depot but it is not cheap.

What can be done if this starts to unglue itself
It should not unglue if proper glue was used as that glue is very sticky. But, If that happened for any reason, remove or lift the plank, take flat spatula and try to scrape it off as much as you can and apply new vinyl plank/ vinyl tile glue.
Use a 100 lb roller on initial install!! If unglues lift and install more gle and let tack up then reinstall

How long did this take you?
2 days for 600 sqft basement. It takes some time to setup first run straight, after that it goes much faster.
@@TheHandyNeighbor thank you! I’m bidding a basement remodel for a client and have never installed vinyl flooring before. Thanks for the info!
Also, have you noticed anything peeling up or coming loose overtime? I’ve seen glue-down vinyl installed in a commercial space before and planks started peeling up after a month…
Don't do this , that floor needs to be screeded 1st ???
Not necessary. You can if you want to but not necessary. I did it like this many times and got perfect result every time. This is not regular vinyl, it is soft and will follow the floor.
