The patent pertaining to the self cleaning steering wheel makes me think some of the Robotaxis will allow you to drive them yourself if you choose, and Robotaxi will run in shadow mode and won't let you crash it.

There is a bit of group think in the Tesla community. It has been popular to denigrate the IRA. But there are a couple of redeeming features.
1) The domestic supply chain incentives for batteries, other components and materials appears to have been effective in influencing decisions to onshore these sources.
2) Although the combination of superior new technology improving owner experience, environmental air quality benefit and declining cost curves for batteries would be expected to cause EV's to dominate over ICE over time even without incentives: For a company that is making EV's at a profit the incentives push the effective price into a higher TAM which allows for more rapid doubling of cumulative production, accelerating cost reductions consistent with Wright's Law, pushing the price into an even higher TAM. It causes EV's to be adopted more rapidly.
yep the Biden administration did everything to promote EVs but drive you to pick up the car. I think the Biden administration cold shoulder toward Elon has more to do with his other companies. 1) His allowance of promotion of lies on X. 2) After talking to Putin he also put his finger on the scales in Ukraine blocking the starlink connection while Ukraines seadrones were on the attack in Crimea then he shook down the pentagon to pay for his services which he had initially offered for free. Having the richest man in the world messing in a european war is not appreciated by any elected leader.

I spent 29.5 years working for Allen Test, SPX, and Bosch specializing in smog testing equipment to make the air cleaner. I realize that even though a car may pass the smog test, it's still spewing out smog just not as a car that fails the test. EVs are the best way to save the environment.

I agree with starting with a supervised service in a few cities. That gets all the details out of the way. Get the app and service software worked out. Maintenance and cleaning of the vehicles etc.. That will be all set when level V FSD and autonomous service launches.

Happening in realtime in a public company vs. predicted in a private company -- August 8 reveal of Robotaxi network vs. SpaceX announcement of Starlink. Auto production will ramp up massively as launch cadence did. Robotaxi will 10x vs. ramping EV production. The parallels are stunning... as are the naysayers and FUDsters response.

My opinion on Jeff's point about the "last 50 feet": I believe Tesla will use its app to show customers the exact pick-up and drop-off locations nearest to their requested spots. Instead of attempting to navigate driveways, public garages, or private roads, the app will direct users to more accessible locations.

With inventory dropping by 33k vehicles, that is $1.3 Billion that flows to earnings in Q2 or about 40 cents a share. With Energy exploding, Q2 earnings may be $1.00 or so.

Do you mean EtherLoop as in the two wire, time sliced network used for all motor vehicle subsystems, including steer-by-wire, motor controls, all vehicle controllers, plus vehicle audio with active road-noise cancellation?
@@jameslaughter5183 Current vehicle subsystems primarily use CanBus as the communication architecture between controllers. This requires a wiring harness to be installed. Part of Tesla's unboxed method is to do away with the CanBus altogether and strictly go with an etherloop system. Yes, etherloop has been around for a while, but Tesla increased the speed and is now making it the entire communication mechanism. Unboxed will require this. The question was that if they are going to bring forward some of the unboxed methods, I'm curious if doing away with Canbus will be part of the first step.
@@AKJammer1 Thanks AK, When I said "all motor vehicle subsystems" it was meant to refer to Tesla Unboxed not legacy subsystems. It appears to be we are on the same page but you have a better understanding than I. I'll try to keep up next time I see one of your comments.

We need less dependence on the government and more onus on the manufacturers to compete. The more the government gets involved the weaker the manufacturers become.
Tesla has posted a second fall in quarterly sales in a row as it faces fierce competition from China.
The US electric car maker, led by Elon Musk, delivered 443,956 vehicles in the three months to the end of June.
This was 5 per cent less than in the same period of 2023 and follows a 9per cent decline in the first quarter of the year.
It was the first back-to-back quarterly sales fall since 2012. However, sales were slightly stronger than analysts were predicting.
It also puts it ahead of its closest Chinese rival BYD.
BYD sold 426,039 vehicles in the three months to the end of June.

Then the RoboTaxi takes Elon to a location where Hans & Robyn are waiting & they get into the RoboTaxi with Elon & it brings the three of them on stage at the show to a roaring standing ovation by everyone there & everyone at home & Alexander's large banner which Retail Investors all signed is slowly unveiled & dropped down on stage just behind & above the RoboTaxi clearly indicating that Retail Investors have won & we have helped bring the future forward.

Tesla is leading the US and pack but it needed the US incentives just like Ford and others. Don’t forget Tesla makes most of its revenue in China not the US. US demand just isn’t as strong and needs the EV incentives to grow market share.

Tesla bull here but don't hype this up. It'll be like when they unveiled Optimus. Very minimum but will progress fast over the next 18 months.
Now that the Chevron decision has been obliterated agencies have no explicit mandate to regulate AI driving.
Tesla is definitely going to have a CAPEX shortfall by 4X in 18 to 24 months. They will have to raise capital to build out all of the production capacity that they will need for Optimus, Gen 3 Unboxed, data centers and other CAPEX. By then hopefully they will be cash positive in their lithium production plant and in their Semi production plant.
Tesla "Cash On Hand" for the Quarter Ending March 31, 2024 is $26.863 Billion; this is a 19% increase from Quarter Ending March 31, 2023. Tesla cash on hand for The Year 2023 was $29.094B, a 31.14% increase from 2022. Tesla cash on hand for The Year 2022 was $22.185B, a 25.29% increase from 2021. Tesla does have expenses planned, but Tesla has Zero Debt and lots of money in the bank. They might have to take on debt, but that is not Tesla Style. GM, Ford, Stellantis, and others are swapped in debt and losing money on every car sold, especially TVs. Giga Texas cost approximately $10B and has some spare room. But Tesla will probably not have a shortfall.

Toyota has made more cars in less than 6 months than Tesla has in over 20 years combined. Tesla was founded in 2003.
The first factory Tesla started to use for serial production was formerly Toyota's in the USA, Toyota borrowed its professionals too to help Tesla in the beginning to serially produce cars..
Toyota is a dinosaur which is dying with ICE and hybrids. Oh and they lobby against EV's. RIP Toyota.

Jeff is missing the FACT that China's government has subsidized EVs much more than either the U.S. or Europe. Such subsidies have a sound basis in reducing emissions like regulations, but much more efficiently in motivating the innovators and investment at the scale needed to minimize production cost and have the needed impact overall. Additionally, China does not want to be dependent on imported oil and is, therefore, doubly motivated to maximize clean solar and wind renewable energy to also reduce its carbon emissions.
Europe has similar motivation, while the U.S. has the least when it comes to reducing its toxic and planet overheating carbon emissions.
Thus, the subsidies should be increased in the U.S. for EVs and for renewables, while the subsidies for fossil fuels should be eliminated - to achieve the needed transistion to clean energy and thereby clean vehicles, and to make the U.S. competitive with both China and with Europe during this 20 year transition.
Elon has recognized that we'd be better off in the U.S. and globally if the sibsidies for polluting fossil fuels were eliminated. This would help to level the playing field, but the need to rapidly transistion to non-polluting renewable energy would still require incentives or much strong regulations, since clean air is a public good that results when the lower emissions from EVs are valued based on avoided high cost of the pollution eliminated by the EVs. A suitable analogy might be why we pay for our garbage collection, rather than allowing people to dump their garbage in the street, in their back 40, in their neighbor's yard, in our public parks or forests, or in the nearby river or lake.

The future is autonomous vehicles with electric. EV selling well worldwide. USA struggling with high inflation, interest rates and debt decreasing sales gas and electric vehicles. China leading the way so we must not fall behind. Musk wants to be USA largest battery manufacturer for car and grid. Right now Chinese CATL world’s largest battery maker. Many auto companies buy expensive battery packs from Korea and China. EV will be cheaper and faster to produce once battery factories USA increase. 40% vehicle owners USA no garage for overnight charging. Therefore we need more charging stations at least 130 kw. Now most common public level 3 only 50 kw. Tesla charges all 130-250 kw. Also advertised public 350kw very rare stations

To believe that Trump is better for Tesla than Biden makes little sense. They both will impose hefty import tariffs on Chinese imports. But judging Trump from his negative statements about policies against climate change, he might very well end current IRA subsidies. Not only for vehicles but also for e.g. stationary storage. China is massively subsidizing its clean energy sector. If the US doesn't also do that, the US industry will internationally be at a serious disadvantage. The Biden administration may have been hostile to Tesla, but practically it has hardly hindered Tesla. The revoking of clean energy subsidies will probably have a far greater effect. Some of these subsidies are substantial. I also wonder whether tariffs can actually be successful. China practically has a monopoly on materials and their processing for batteries and solar cells. So they could counter high US import tariffs by threatening to deprive the US industry of them or impose high export tariffs.
