I was diagnosed with a Severe Fatty liver in 2017. I was 321lbs at 5’11” at 57 years of age. I immediately went healthy Keto. I lost 150lbs in 2 years. I reversed Liver Fibrosis. I was also diagnosed with Hemochromatis at around the same time of being diagnosed with a severe fatty liver. My Ferritin was 4580. Hemochromatosis was depositing iron into my liver, adding to the misery. My waist was 60” around. I’ve maintained my weight for 2 years now - a total of over 4 years now that I’ve been KETO. It’s a blessing that I lost the weight. Last December my blood pressure dropped to 90/40. I was then diagnosed with severe aortic insufficiency. Totally unrelated to my prior health issues. I had a hole of 4-5mm in my aortic heart valve. I had open heart surgery back in April. The only exercise I’ve done is walking. I’m back to pre-valve replacement surgery shape. My waist is now 35” I’m 62 years old now, and my lipids are: Total Cholesterol = 169, Triglycerides = 42,
HDL = 64, VLDL = 9, LDL = 96 (My coronary arteries are all clean as witnessed by a heart catheterization)
So, if you follow a Mediterranean version of Keto, I’m sure you can achieve the same success.

This was very interesting vid. Your approach to breaking down various research into unusable info is wonderful. A series like this on specific diet studies for specific need would be very interesting.
I was diagnosed with fatty liver in May. By September, I lost 24 lbs. and reversed my fatty liver by following the diet you mentioned.

Yes Thomas. This good way shall work certainly. Thanks. Good effort. From Craig. UK.
Thanks!
I love that you are very moderate and don't go too extrem on the diet. It's Best to have all groups of food in the right amount.
I've been on healthy keto for months now since summer. And you don't have to eliminate the bad stuff when it's someone's birthday or a very special occassion. (Consistency is key). Lost about 22lbs. Doing resistance training 3 times a week. Now I never want to go back to sugars and processed foods. I wish the rest of you good luck. I'm still working towards a fit muscular body :)
Btw, Healthy Keto doesn't have to be boring! There are a lot of creative folks out there with keto recipies which make the whole thing much easier :D
Your content is Awesome! Thanks so much 😊
Say, is there a nutrigenomic company that would be good to have testing with? If you could supply a link, I'd appreciate it. Thanks so much 🙇♀️

Me too!!
I have liver disease low carb is so important. Its videos like this that make it easier. Thomas explains everything so you understand why . Thanks for info.
Something similar worked for me. Had elevated liver markers. Over 18 months I lost 10% of my body fat on a low carb moderate protein moderate fat diet, & my liver markers returned to normal. My diet includes 300 mls of full cream milk at breakfast most days, & often a handful of macadamias, & bacon & eggs several times weekly. I'm more cautious than many re fat, as I've had my gall bladder removed. Having bone broth or lean meat a half hour to hour before '2nd half of breakfast' helps my body not be so reactive to the later fat content. My doctor was suprised but happy with the result.
Bile salts helps breaking down the fat for those without gall bladder. My sis had major issue with diarrhea after surgery, that was a game changer for her
Yay. I count on you!
Very good
Thank you, Thomas. Since Feb 2021 I have lost 50+lbs 270lbs to 217lbs. I am sure that was pre-diabetic for many years. I was slowly killing myself. I gained 15lb-17lbs last Winter but lost it back. I will not do that again. Winter is hard, trying to eat right and stay moving during the Winter months is very difficult. Fasting and Time Restricted Eating played a major part with my success. Thomas also talked about overnutrition. If we eat too much, we're overworking our body / overworking all the systems. I believe that we need to keep the blood clean. Too much calcium, too much cholesterol and too much protein in the blood = High Blood Sugar, High Insulin / Insulin Resistance, Fatty Liver, High Cholesterol and Plaque = Diseases.
At first I wondered why Thomas was restricting walking so much. Then I realised he's addressing Americans. They never walk anywhere, so he's actually advocating an INCREASE in physical activity.
Thomas, I have liver disease. PBC and fatty liver. Please share with me which study this is. I need to look at this specific diet. Thank you
Can u make a video on fatty pancreas also?
This video really hits close to home with me, Tommy. I have fatty liver now and my triglycerides have been high for years. Also, my bilirubins are high and have been so for years. The docs have recently started screening me for cancer. Luckily, nothing yet, but all signs point to yes on BIG MED's magic 8 ball for me. Anything I can do to fix this stuff is a great help.
😭 sorry brother. Follow the advice in this video my man. Don’t want to see you have to go down that route
Carnivore Eating Plan.
Egg yokes have choline which I believe has also been found to be very good for dealing with fatty liver. Which is probably why eggs were included.
Interesting stuff! I walk a lot...or long walks when I walk here in the Philippines. Need to walk daily.
Apple cider vinegar as well right?
How can you not mention more the " a lot of eggs " part. Chris Masterjohn talks a lot about choline deficiency and how important it is for the liver to export fat and that it's the best way. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the most important part of the diet.
L.E: Also for people struggling on different diets, keto is not end all be all, as it's seen by a lot of people having diverse macronutrients. Hair tissue mineral analysis is a good start to start repairing your metabolic system, and Glynac has wonderful results in decent doses as well as some fermented foods, but not all.
Id love to have your input on the eggs. I do teo eggs a day. Dr. Erick Berg suggest 4 eggs a day.
I was offered on line, a free hair analyse for heavy metal and minerals, by a naturopathic dr. S. Cabral. Have you heard of him?
Got his book as well for free, I understand nothing is for free, but is a start
Glynac? I assume is a product, does it need a prescription?
What is L. E ?
Any further suggestion from your studies I'd appreciate. I am sure I have heavy metals in my system, since I had for years 5 mercury teeth and removed way back in 2007 and had done nothing to clean the metals ever since. Too busy, now I am retired, 75 years old female. My endocrines gland are all suffering now. Thank you for any help you can offer.
Thanks Sabin God bless
@@naildaxmulder hi!
- L.E means later edit
- Female choline requirements are 425mg/day, and one egg has about 150mg, so 3 eggs per day should suffice if you don't have too much weight to lose. Some chicken liver/beef liver from time to time is good too, has choline. Try and find the best/healthies eggs you can afford.
- I haven't heard about that doctor but you should definitely do a hair tissue mineral analysis especially if you had mercury fillings, and especially if it's free. The amount of poisons in day to day life ia astounding. But be careful with people giving u free stuff, usually nothing is free in life.
- Glynac is glycine+NAC ( which is n-acetyl-cysteine ) this is a very good video about it where 70+ year olds take glynac for 24 weeks and have improvements across the board.
ua-cam.com/video/XaxY7LpuSFo/v-deo.html
- As for the teeth..i would search for a functional dentist near you and talk to him/her about it. If you had mercury fillings they should be removed with a lot of caution as far as i know otherwise it can poison you. The dentist should be able to help you. Mercury toxicity is no joke

Unfortunately our current lab tests don't differentiate between small dense ldl from the larger molecule. The small dense LDL is what will cause issues with the arteries and accumulate in them when they are damaged by oxidative stress.
Keto diet will decrease small dense LDL and decrease oxidative stress in general. So it's a win win. MD here.
While not perfect, your triglyceride levels can give you a good idea of which type of lipoproteins you have. If you are losing a lot of fat, your triglycerides could be temporarily high. Once you hit your goal weight, they should go to their normal levels.
For years I starved myself fat on 1200 low fat, high fibre calories a day for decades my cholesterol was on the low side, but my triglycerides were too high. So bad, sticky lipoproteins. I had an active job and went to the gym daily. Barely fit a size 18.
When I went low carb over a decade ago, my LDL went up to average, my HDL went to a nice high level and my triglycerides went down to surprising low for someone my age. Doctors words. They have stayed that way.
I am a big believer in cheese, K2-4 and animal fats. The real Mediterranean diet is full of feta, mozzarella, meat, etc.
Particle size doesn’t matter. That hypothesis largely promoted by Dr Ronald Krauss has been disproven by Mendelian randomization studies. It’s ApoB particles that drive atherosclerosis.

I missed the "promotional material" tag.
((WARNING)) This diet has a high calcium intake without mentioning taking K2 MK7, without the K2, calcium will build up in your arteries and (NOT) make it to your bones. If you have fatty liver, I would avoid the red wine as well, not to mention the honey in this diet, honey is worse, and more harmful than sugar, for the liver. It looks like the only difference between this diet and a regular keto diet is the dairy and red meat and honey/wine. However, the keto diet does have cheese, so the real difference is red meat, the keto diet does have a more fish and poultry plan over red meat anyway. My advice is just stick with regular keto, avoid too much red meat, coffee, tea, ((NO)) honey or wine, and most importantly, take K2 MK7 to avoid calcification of the arteries.
Why coffee? It's been reviewed to aid the liver.
Objectively speaking, how much exercise is a good workout? Many say "as long as you put enough effort that's enough", but that is sooooo subjective.
I meant something dead on like "hold/acummulate 20 mins your maximum heartbeat rate (around 180 bpm's)"

Thomas, the link in the study you provided said absolutely nothing about dairy and egg consumption in this Spanish Study. This is what it said instead:
"The objective of this study was to determine the dietary effects of a protein ketogenic diet rich in olive oil, salad, fish and red wine.
Methods: A prospective study was carried out in 31 obese subjects (22 male and 19 female) with the inclusion criteria whose body mass index and age was 36.46 +/- 2.22 and 38.48 +/- 2.27, respectively. This Ketogenic diet was called "Spanish Ketogenic Mediterranean Diet" (SKMD) due to the incorporation of virgin olive oil as the principal source of fat (> or =30 ml/day), moderate red wine intake (200-400 ml/day), green vegetables and salads as the main source of carbohydrates and fish as the main source of proteins. It was an unlimited calorie diet."
Thank you for this

It's old news. The study is from almost 12 years ago. Lol
hi all i have diagnosed NAFL fatty liver disease plus high blood pressure take 3 blood pressure medication ita safe start Carnivore diet ?
Yes it should help
Hi Thomas. I have a question about the Mediterranean (Spanish) diet the study listed with dairy. Don’t they use goat milk and cheese made with the same? Their dairy is different basically, correct?
The study didn't include any dairy, chicken or meat. It had fish as the protein source. And you are correct, in the Mediterranean people eat mostly goat and sheep's cheese, not very much cow dairy.
Goat is A2, as is most aged cheese from over there
@Poire Tartin Yeah, I'm not sure what he did there. It's confusing. From my own experience spending time in Europe, we eat an egg or two only on Sundays, and use some in cooked dishes or baking. So, definitely much less usage than I see here in the US.
Thomas, Do you eat any breads?
My AST/ALT is 24 and I'm still working on reducing fatty liver. I don't like that 1:1 ratio though. And I've struggled with alcohol dependence throughout my life. So, gonna give the Mediterranean diet a shot and see what happens
It's a 3 step thing, but the 3rd comes naturally : 1- reduce glycemic index of food for 3 weeks, 2- introduce time restricted eating (or go down to 2 close meals/day randomly) 3- another 3 weeks later you will see that sports started automatically, and sport (walking) instead of being a thing of horror becomes BLISS. This fixes everything : sleep, depression, belly, tg, mood, enthusiasm, love for life.
I was diagnosed with a fatty liver last week and I'm only 11 stone, I'm fairly active not as much as I'd like to be but more than most,I do intermittent fasting I dont drink alcohol and dont touch prossessed or junk food, I'm trying to build muscle but I can't touch red meat or carbs because of my TSH levels (11.70) Im so confused what to do.
Which study is this?
I reversed my grade 2 fatty liver in 6 months and lost 80 lbs using Keto + IF + supplements like Methylated B vitamins, Glycine, Taurine, esstial aminos, Methionine, magnesium, potassium, zinc, copper.
I also increased my physical activity in fasted state by 3X during this period.
I was Not eating any refined carbs, refined sugars, seed oils, starchy vegetables, grains (wheat & rice) during this period. At ultrasound where they told me my liver is now normal (nonore grade 2 fatty), a blood test also indicated high levels of ketones and very low insulin levels in the blood. Out of concern when I asked if I should be concerned about low insulin levels , the Dr said it's actually good bcoz the HbA1C was absolutely normal, and so was LDL, hsCRP, etc.

Thanks Delauer, I can eat my eggs guilt free now 😊
Not sure about the extra dairy though. I read somewhere about too much dairy leading to things like congestion, mucus, allergies, though the data isn't really consistent.
Overall I agree. I'm guessing that most people who show benefits from a Mediterranean diet are eating mainly or all unprocessed, relatively fresh yogurt and cheeses. And probably most of the time, those dairy foods are not combined with fried or high glycemic foods.
Try researching A1-A2 milks. X
That’s true for American dairy we don’t see the same problems in Nordic countries that eat dairy

This reflects my experience and my change in the foods I eat. I followed at keto diet for a year and now have settled into a Mediterranean diet with slightly higher dairy…with grass fed dairy, pasture raised eggs, less beef but only grass fed, and more fatty fish to replace the beef. I dropped 95 pounds…triglycerides dropped from 111 to 43, ALT dropped from 88 to 23 and HbA1C dropped from 6.3 to 5.1. It did not seem like work because-as you said-my satiety was working in my favor. Thanks for the advice, Thomas!

There’s been other great channels across UA-cam, putting the suggestion that cholesterol is a repair mechanism of the body to combat the cardiovascular damage that insulin resistant causes. Cholesterol patches up the arteries and it’s a defense against that. We know what happens next.

Im about 15-20 lbs overweight. Does it matter if I actually feel better with an extra 5-10 lbs (overweight)? Tyia
If you are going by the life insurance tables for weight and height, those are a lie to charge more. Extra muscle weight is not a problem, a fatty liver is a big problem. I get my blood tested once a year to help decide if I need to make any changes.
I was just looking at the study, and it talks about wine consumption. Is that okay for keto, or is this not so much for ketogenesis
I strongly believe 3oz a few times per week is totally fine.

Easy, reduce the quantity of carbs, specially the refined ones, a lot of veggies, do fasting combine with exercise, 48 hours and soft cardio, do this weekly, get the proteins from Temphe, salmon, and chicken.
Take extra cholin.
Cheers
One to two meals a day , no snacking! 😉
is it really the diet or when they on low carb theyre starving..coz they mostly eat fats and when they eat fat they couldnt digest fat coz their liver is fvcked anyways couldnt make enough bile 🤣🤣
Gosh im confused. I thought less eggs is better & dairy is inflammatory. 😒
How can one know if the liver is fatty? Is it only through scanning? Not everyone has access to it. Through blood markers, what are the numbers which indicates the liver is fatty?
Scanning would be the best way to know for sure, blood test wise look out for high cholesterol elevated alt ast and ggt as well as an elevated tsh. As for symptoms for me personally it was low energy and struggling to lose weight this is because the liver converts the majority of thyroid hormone t4(inactive) into t3(active) so when the liver is inflamed due to being fatty it cannot make this conversion as effectively so you end up with inadequate t3 in the body which causes hypothyroid symptoms and elevated tsh (even though the thyroid itself is healthy and making enough t4) the problem is t4 is inactive and must be converted into t3 in order to be used by the body and the main area this conversion takes place is in the liver so an unhealthy liver will almost certainly affect this conversion to some extent.
This is exactly what im facing now, did you improve or reverse the liver damage? I’m scared to death.
😎

You keep saying it but then simplify and say carbs. It's the OVER eating, thar causes excess carbs to be stored, fatty liver, etc. Every human study we have when calories are equated shows this. Obviously yes. It's an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease: it causes atherosclerosis. LDL is definitely a very bad thing.
I don’t think it’s that black and white. LDL helps prevent things like cancer and depression.
Those statins you're on has really affected your brain function hasn't it? Not surprising considering cholesterol is essential for the brain and infact everything in the entire body! Cholesterol ldl hdl triglycerides are ALL essential your body wouldn't make them if they were bad!

Sorry, but to many healthy fats or fatty meats to NOT cause NAFLD. It is from sugar & grains that turn to sugar. In fact the cure for NAFLD is to eat more healthy fats, fatty meats & cut out sugar & things that to to sugar in the body.
Plus intermittent fasting helps as well.
