    As you can tell by my channel moniker, I'm a Kiwi and as such I'm pretty familiar with the sentences handed out for serious crimes in New Zealand, I read the court news daily. Also, because NZ only records around 50 homicides a year for the entire country, any murder that is slightly out of the ordinary is usually covered by nationwide media, as are the court cases for those murders.
    New Zealand is ridiculously lenient on murderers. A life sentence here for an unplanned murder will usually see the murderer walking the streets on parole after 5-8 years if they behave themselves inside, show remorse and a willingness to rehabilitate themselves back into society. A premeditated murder might attract a 17 or 18 year sentence but once again, good behavior etc will usually see this sentence cut in half.
    The worst murderers such as child abduction murders, murdering police officers or mass murders will attract 25 - life sentences but we have only a small handful of murderers who will never have any chance of freedom such as Brenton Tarrant, the Christchurch Mosque shooter who murdered 51 people in about 30 minutes who was sentenced to 51 life sentences without the chance of parole.
    In New Zealand a person who is caught manufacturing methamphetamine will get a longer sentence than a murderer.

      @Hathur 4 місяці тому +16

      I was a court reporter for 15 years. In my personal experience, MANY judges routinely lighten murder sentences if the victim was a person of "disrepute" (prostitutes, homeless, drug addicts, etc). It enraged me so much and utterly disillusioned me with the justice system. I'm no man-hater.. but male judges did this WAY more often then female judges in my experience (I even kept a notepad after a few years of being on the job, I'd tick everytime a male judge gave a light murder sentence vs female judge and male judges gave lighter murder sentences 40% more often).

Even though there’s protection nothing is 100% and you can’t count on your partner to use it. Particularly if the relationship has been abusive or controlling the abuse never ends while they are tied to a child. Most of these relationships aren’t this extreme. They’re just toxic for the children involved. I wonder what happened to jack?

    If I ever had a relationship with someone who was toxic and the relationship caused the birth of a child, and later the relationship ended, I would put as much distance between the mother and child as possible and never look back. From my observations in life, this draw of a child to be within the circle of a relationship that involves a toxic person is always ruinous. It can really never be any other way. Sever all contact and move on. Toxic people will always, always use children as a weapon. It’s the nature of their toxicity.

It must be difficult to maintain an audience when you are forced to entice by participating in the mainstream need for shock and horror. I will say that ( in my humble opinion) you've managed to walk that razors edge without losing your integrity. I have the utmost respect for you. New Zealand has low punishments for murder. Technically they are on life parole. Most people here think life should mean life, or at least long enough for the person to no longer be a threat due to age and infirmity. Either way, taxpayers will pay to keep them alive - either in prison or out of prison.
