    I actually enjoyed this tutorial. I learned quite a bit from it. No worries about the mistakes, I got what you were trying to do and executed it just fine.
    I tried it and it worked great! I know how to do an ILS approach now.
    Thanks for sharing.

    Maybe some improvements:
    Takeoff - speed 140 flaps 5
    Landing - 10 miles: flaps 0 speed 180
    7 miles flaps 5 speed 165
    5 miles: landing gear down flaps 15
    3 miles: flaps 25
    2 miles: flaps 30
    altitude 100ft: disengage the autopilot and auto-throttle
    50ft: power idle
    30ft: start flaring 5-10 degrees
    touchdown: reverse thrust, spoilers up
    speed 60knts: disengage reverse and start manually braking
    near taxiway: exit
    Hope that gives you better performance! Good luck!

      XpertPilotFSX Rotate speed is 145 Knots not 140..... And landing speed is 145 - 160.!!!!!

    • @XpertPilotFSX
      @XpertPilotFSX 9 років тому

      Legit I dont go over 145 knts when landing. And it's better than me landing at 160 knts. And I rotate at 140. I feel it's exactly the same. It's my procedure. It's how I land. If u gonna judge me then I'm fine because everyone is different. Everyone uses different ways to do things, just like you and I. So, any mistakes, I'm sorry, but I find it comfortable for me. Might not be for you though.

    Just to let you know, you don't have to wait for both diamonds to be in the middle, as long as both diamonds appear you turn the approach hold on and it will sort the diamonds out to the middle itself.

    The hardest part is intercepting the ILS.
    1) Obtain the ILS frequency. Try to do this as soon as you obtain your landing runway.
    2) On heading autopilot or GPS descent, insert the ILS frequency (should be a number, in example 109.50) in to the STANDBY for NAV 1 on your radio console. May vary by plane, but this is almost always the same for standard fixed-wing aircraft.
    3) Switch GPS to NAV if not already in NAV (typically a button or switch around the autopilot dash/console)
    4) When you hear a Morse code signal, you have intercepted the ILS frequency.
    5) Around then, turn on “APP” or “Approach.”
    6) Once about 20 meters above the ground, Disable the auto-pilot and auto-throttle, and land.
    Note:
    The pink diamonds may be skewed throughout the approach in the case of a heavy crosswind as NAV won’t compensate for the wind forcing you to do a crab-walk landing. In this case, though, I would avoid using autopilot once you are 2,000 feet or less above the ground.
    This doesn’t include specific directions on flaps, airspeed, altitude, how to use the in-flight GPS, or how to land. This is purely for using the ILS. Use what you normally would to land your plane. ILS will only take care of lining your plane up so you don’t have to.

    thrust shouldn't be idle until you are up on the runway not before reaching the runway, and reverse thrust must be activated the moment your landing gear hits the runway, nose can come down after R/T is on, no problem with that. GREAT VIDEO btw :)

  • @mayureshkonda5639
    @mayureshkonda5639 5 років тому

    That was a highly buttered landing... Realized the plane touched down only after seeing the nose come down... Amazing

    Don't forget to take off the auto throttle switch when at runway and do set your auto brake before you land so you won't need braking with pedals unless you have to tweek brakes to stop.

      disabled gamer, I contact the ATC and it gives me a heading total different from my GPS heading and takes me into a different runway and different airport. Not where I want to be. Can you help me? how can I tel the ATC that I m flyin with GPS and let me land at the riggt runway?

    • @LucasDelmarcel
      @LucasDelmarcel 9 років тому

      MR COURIER You can't tell the ATC that your on GPS. The ATC wants to direct you to the runway by giving a heading. You can either tell ATC that you want another approach / runway, but personally I just ignore the instructions giving by the ATC, I just fly in to the runway.

    • @mrcourier851
      @mrcourier851 9 років тому

      Lucas Delmarcel ok but the heading never lines me up with the rnwy

    • @LucasDelmarcel
      @LucasDelmarcel 9 років тому

      I recommend that you don't uses the heading, but that you set up direct gps and fly in to the runway, by turning on ILS approach. So, just fly in to the runway and use your gps. I can't understand the dumpiness of ATC too

    Actually did a ILS manual landing in a real simulator(located near Schiphol) in very foggy circumstances.
    It's pretty hard to keep an eye on the screen, and also to keep an eye on the runway while you cant see it.
    But you have to cause if you dont see the runway at a certain height...than you have to make a go around.
    My years of experience in a PMDG 737 made it a lot easier, i knew what every single button did....PMDG did an awesome job.
    And the instructor was a real world Transavia pilot(NLD) what better compliment can you get than a pilot saying that you're talenten and should apply for a real pilot job.
    I got a nice paper from school, but sad enough it's not high enough to apply for it.

    I have been flying the Lear 45 lately using the GPS to get me to he airport and it's working great
    I usually use autoland, having already pre-programed the ILS runway freq.
    My questions:
    When exactly do I switch from the " GPS " button to the " NAV " button , as sometimes pressing it too late I overfly the runway and pressing too early causes my plane to get lost...
    When should I press the " APP " button
    What is my best alt. for intercepting the a runway localizer

    Good rule of thumb for any aircraft during final approach regarding the speed:
    10 nm - 200 knots
    9 nm - 190 knots
    8 - 180
    ...
    Then at 4 nm - 140 knots. This should be your final approach speed.

    ok so here's a summary of how to use ILS:
    1. On the flight planner, find the runway your landing at and click on the ILS Feather (the green arrow on the runway)
    2. Make a note of the frequency the ILS radio works at (for this vid it was 110.30MHz)
    3. Fly your plane and when your around 10 miles away, switch your NAV1 radio to your ILS radio frequency
    4. You know it will work as you will start to hear the morse code beeping and a pink diamond that shows on your PFD, showing you the horizontal alignment of the plane to runway
    5. Turn on the ILS and APP (not AP for autoPILOT) buttons on your front panel. This will then give you the vertical diamond, showing your glideslope as well
    6. The plane should start making its corrections in its directions and rotations, readying itself for landing and lining itself
    7. Remember, the ILS doesn't affect your other AP factors (ie speed), so make sure you deploy your flaps, landing gear and lower your throttle lever to lower your airspeed for landing
    8. If your within a few miles, turn off your AP, but leave the Approach hold (APP) on and ILS
    9. Once you reach the first sets of lights, set your thrust to idle (this is basically normal practice lol)
    10. When you reach the runway's threshold, flare the aircraft, making sure the main landing gear touch the runway first
    11. Apply brakes and reverse thrust
    12. Taxi to gates/parking/fuel
    13. whatever you want

    Sir, I like your video to Heathro, it was intuitive. You mention flaring or pitching, is it common when you land, the nose of the aircraft goes beyond a 45 degree angle? I have had more tail strikes then anyone can imagine. Other then pushing forward on the Joy stick, is there anything that I might not be doing? Any help or suggestions, would be wonderful.

    Thanks for the tutorial, from where to get the details you have input of frequency, head and course?

      Ashish Solanki use the map whilst in flight or when viewing the flight plan...click on your chosen destination airport and you will see the airport info such as frequency etc.

    Nice one. Is it possible to do the same exercise with Boeing F-18?

    Nice video thanks for sharing. Just one question tho.. The purple square coming down the left side was that part of the GSI? (Glide Slope Indicator).
    Also how are you able to zoom in and around the cockpit like you do? Is it an addon for fsx?
    Best wishes from a wheelchair fsx pilot

    In almost all UA-cam videos they are saying switch from GPS to NAV but nobody is saying why, what's the reason???

      I am not an expert and only have about 20 or so flight hours in FSX, but... When you are flying on GPS, you are flying a course on your map and being kept on that course via GPS relays. This keeps you on an X,Y axis, you still set the altitude via the autopilot or manual control. When you switch to NAV, (in the case of using ILS to land) your course is now being kept by radar positioning and corrections being fed over the ILS communication, this also has the ability to control your X,Y,Z axis. I write this reply with the disclaimer that I am not a professional in any manner and corrections are welcomed. This is just my understanding based on my experience thus far.

    Thank you my very first ILS landing. Just one thing i keep trying to get the plane to line up but it doesn't follow flight plan and end up continuing forward to the airport. My VOR LOC is on and then the plane just ends up circling the airport so i had to teleport the airplane out to the route which was off the coast and then it followed the flight plan and landed. If this could be addressed it would be greatly appreciated. Great video!

      You hit your nav button too late??? Your altitude was too high or too low???

    Thanks for the video. Commentary was great. Wondering why the spoilers didn't come up. I'm pretty sure they will deploy on landing even if they aren't armed on real 737-800. Not sure about the Simulator though.

    The glideslop diamond is always at the bottom and never changes no matter where I am during my approach

    I think I heard you say about having an updated default 737-800? Where can I download it?
    Thanks, and good video!
