I have seen a lot a videos but this one is the best, clear explanation, no back ground noise from the running simulator.
Great job. Advise me if you have more videos. Regards, Nedal

Hi great tutorial! Could you make another video on the 747 but to a destination instead of a circuit as I find it more helpful with your other tutorials with a destination. I can now fly the 737-800 and the airbus because of your great tutorials.

Thank gosh there is one decent 744 tutorial video out there. Well done. Most other videos on this topic are filled with inaccuracies and made by people who are obviously not competent on the software. Thanks for making this video. Two thumbs up.

I am new to FSX only been using it for a week and I have just taken off and landed a747-400 at Blackpool airport perfectly (the nose wheel did go through the perimeter fence on landing lol but I did use full flaps throughout for taking off on the very short runway) while following your video! Excellent easy to follow instruction even for complete beginners like me :)

Instead of focusing on your GPS, you could use your cockpit clock. As soon as you perform the first 90-degree turn on your crosswind leg, set the timer to know how long it takes for a turn. After that, set the timer again the time until you turn on your downwind leg. Repeat the process again for the 90-degree turn on the crosswind leg and too for each following turn and leg. You need some planting on beforehand of course, and you might need a few more reference points, but it's an alternative to the GPS! ;)

I use shift+/ to arm the spoilers (speed brakes) to deploy on touchdown. You can set autobrake in the 2D panel as well. 1 or 2 is good

  • @raym984

Nice guide for those flying on FSX. But in real life or if you want to make your FSX experience as realistic as possible, keep the following in mind:
    - A/T is not to be engaged before or during takeoff. It must be manually increased. Increase to 50% N1 (engine power) to spool up the engines and then increase it to full.
    - Flaps should not remain down during the duration of the flight. It can be damaged. After takeoff, immediately close flaps and use it when really necessary. (Note: Take a look at the reference guide in FSX for airspeeds associated with each flap setting).
    - Airspeed should not exceed 200 knots under 10,000 feet MSL.
    - When landing, do not decrease throttle all the way to 0 until the back wheels touch the ground. (In the video, the aircraft made a hard landing; which is the case when you decrease throttle all the way before the wheels even touch the ground).
    - Prior to landing, make sure the speed brakes are armed (pressing SHIFT+/ should do the trick).
    - After both the wheels touch the ground, apply reverse thrust and then cancel reverse thrust once airspeed of the aircraft reaches 60 knots.

Great video, looks like you put a lot of work into this! The only suggestion I would have is when you are talking about the maroon or magenta items, maybe make it more clear which ones you were referring to, like when you used the red circles to point out the buttons. I got lost a little unfortunately. I also did not know when to turn to the next heading (how far out to fly before turning). Thanks! I'll play around with it tomorrow or the weekend. Thanks!!

Hi, for easier intercept of the localiser, make your final turn to around 020deg and push the APPROACH button, the aircraft will then capture the localiser nicely and turn herself onto the final course 045deg.

Thanks Mr.C, I had given up on FSX for awhile now (about 6 months) as I could fly about anything on it except the big jets. but today I watched this video and took some notes and decided I'd give it a go. I set up at the same Airport and on the same runway and flew the same pattern 3 times in a row I set down to hard and crashed on landing. I was having that problem you mentioned about the plane trying to find center on the ILS and sweeping the nose back and forth franticly, also I kept getting warnings about flap speed (That I just ignored) After the 3rd failed landing I decided to try something different I changed to time of the flight to night so I could see the runway better and sooner but still another failed attempt. On the fifth time I decided to give into to the plane and let it start getting lined up as soon as possible with about a 22 mile final with lowered altitude from 2000 to 1800 on the last turn. As soon as I heard the ILS tones on my radio I hit the approach button and after a couple of 2 or 3 degree coarse changes and corrections my aircraft was sitting on 045 before it even entered the ILS fantail. Most everything else Was done just like you showed and this time she flared brilliantly and set down like a feather. I couldn't be happier right now then if I really earned my wings. I only wish my flight video recorded it properly so I someday could show it to you but that part of my FSX never has worked properly for some reason. Anyway with a little more practice I may be confident enough to try multiplayer and I have you and your video to thank for it. Cheers mate!!!

Hi again, now from UK. Found your "simple guide to the default Boeing 747 which was just what I was looking for. One question, are you using EZDOK and if so which version. I haven't had much luck with it in the past which may be something to do with the fact that I am running FSX-SE. Any help would be much appreciated. Regards Richard M

***** Hi Richard - Welcome back. I do use EZDok, currentl version 1.186. It works fine on FSX-SE but does require some "encouragement". Try my videos here : ua-cam.com/video/rjdhYKh6yps/v-deo.html and here : ua-cam.com/video/84Vap2bsXEY/v-deo.html
If you find you're getting errors with EZdok, try my videos here : ua-cam.com/video/ipvy9onxRuk/v-deo.html and here : ua-cam.com/video/n1OzcKUStts/v-deo.html
As you can probably guess, EZdok presents us with real challenges!

Also, I'm playing with my keyboard for now. In the older version, if I was using my keys to climb/descent, there used to be a little indicator showing me where the stick was so I would know if I was going to fast up or down (does that make sense).
