    FINALLY, Finally, someone is doing an awesome job, to explain in great detail, how to land the Cessna 172. It's a real good addition to the tutorials lessons of FSX! Both thumps up!!

    Perfect! So I am not stupid after all. Your very good. You should be a teacher because you know what is perfect to say and what should not be said to avoid confusion. You have a perfect

    I really enjoy the way you present the instructions. No yelling, no excitement. Just a calm attitude and easy to listen to. It's really hard for me to believe you don't have a pilot license, just a lot of time in the sim. This should be something everyone viewing it should see.

    • @Doofer911
      @Doofer911  6 років тому +1

      Thank you for your kind comments. I don't have the money for a license sadly so I've been using flight simulation as a way to study so that when I do have the money, I shouldn't have to spend as much time on Ground School work so I can focus more on time in the air.

    FSX has not only made me a fair simulator pilot with the help of videos like yours but to be quite honest it is sometimes difficult enough I also need to give it credit for my improved drinking skills as well.
    It has only taken slightly more then 300 hours of practice just learning how to take off and land the Boeing 747-400 the correct and safe way and do it pretty much consecutively each time but now when I get into the Cessna it's like going from a Tractor Trailer to a Volkswagen bug and having the much faster reaction scares the hell out of me some times. I guess The biggest mistake I or anyone else could make with FSX is starting out big instead of working your way up from the smaller planes first. It will sure save you money on buying alcohol anyway..LOL!

  • @rozzabuc
    @rozzabuc 7 років тому +16

    Keep in mind that you are making a very slow approach. Ideally in the 172, you put out your first stage of flap at 110kts, then at 3nm final stage 2 at 85, and reduce speed to 75. Final approach at 500 feet you reduce your speed to 70kts with third stage of flap. The slowest you should be going is 65kts which is final approach speed for short field landings.

    • @harryroberts388
      @harryroberts388 3 роки тому +3

      Umm I'm sure you've gained more aviation knowledge by now, but you never deploy flaps past 80kts; it is out of the safety white arc. That would damage the flaps severely

    • @TheCrashyBoi
      @TheCrashyBoi Місяць тому

      @@harryroberts388I know my response is slightly late, but the FSX landing checklist for the Cessna 172 tells you to use one notch of flaps at less than 110kts (10 degrees

    I fly the C172 pretty often in FSX but my latest landing was a bloody disaster. I needed three attempts as the first and second try ended in crashing the aeroplane. On my third attempt, however, I managed to finally land but had a tail strike. A FSX-flying session to forget! :D

    I've been playing FSX lately. I was not really that good, mainly because of landing (all sorts of issues, overrunning, falling short, not lining up, not flaring). I just played the Hawaiian Checkout mission and passed. The funny part was as I was entering the pattern, the glideslope indicators were behind trees, and I don't like not seeing my instruments during landing. I stuck to the basics taught in this video of throttle for vertical airspeed and stick for horizontal airspeed. I still managed to hit the runway on the target and was actually able to stop. Excellent explanation of how to land a plane.

      Yeah it's always great to return to GA every now and then and hand fly some of these aircraft, helps keep your skills sharp!

    I was having a lot of trouble on my landing approaches, but they're looking way better now that I actually understand the glide scope! Thanks! +1 Sub, and I liked :)

      Doofer911 Just a question, I started using the same ultra realistic settings that you use, and I encountered a problem in flight that I am not sure how to fix. When flying the Cessna 172, when I extend the first stage of flaps and begin slowing, the plane starts rapidly ascending despite me desperately trying to decrease the throttle and descend. It ascends roughly 50 feet per 10 seconds, even when the throttle is idle. After roughly 30 seconds to 1 minute, the plane starts to descend as normal. I suspect the issue may be with the trim that I use for landing, with the wheel being pushed a few centimetres forward, but after some testing, altering the trim did not help. Do you have any idea on how to fix this? Thanks.
      EDIT: The issue may also be associated with my airspeed, usually I try to begin descending at between 70 and 80 Nauts.

      More flaps = More Lift. Try descending between 60-70 knots.

      Doofer911 OK, I'll try it out, thanks!

    When u put the flaps down and nose goes up. It's called ballooning, as a pilot u should stop the nose from rising with forward push on the control column.

    I use a hotas with a throttle that you need to hold where you want it, is there any tips you have for me on how to do what you do in this vid

    Great Tutorial as ever, I'm slowly getting to grips with FSX. I'm trying to concentrate on getting my landings sorted, but I'm a bit unsure as to how far out from the airport you are beginning your descent ? I seem to be getting in line etc, but I'm nearly always too low and too far away from the runway. I'm also usually too fast so end up ballooning up into the air when I cut the throttle and attempt to touchdown.
    Well done again on the superb tutorials :)

      +Matthew Hinchliffe It varies depending on how you approach the airport. What I usually do is aim to be at 2000ft above ground level at 6nm away from the airport. That should get you pretty close to the Glideslope, then you can follow it down to the runway. As for the speed, you want to be coming over the threshold at about 55-60 knots. Then as you flare the speed will come down a little further and the plane should settle gently onto the runway. It is a lot to try and get right in one go but stick with it! It will become second nature
