Although prices have dropped in the last 6 months, I can't imagine finding a house for 100k pounds in the Netherlands, not even something in a place equally undesirable as Hull. Those prices are crazy. An almost decent place in Zaandam will cost you at least 222k pounds. Makes me very envious of you.
something else to mention is things like airbnb. people making money on houses, pricing them like a hotel are competing in the same housing market. idk if its the same for London, but its a big problem with the Vancouver area
fellow vancouverite here! what bothers me most about absent owners in vancouver is the amount of offices that are vacant. i know so many people who worked in practically empty offices wayyy before covid! so much wasted space people could be living in. & to add salt to the wound, the city approves the development of so many new office buildings instead of using that space for housing
Not to mention the pure robbery of the London one, it's leasehold. I've heard that in London there are companies that buy council property for tenets that get full discount, let the residents live there for as long as they want rent free then when they leave or die, lease the property for a ridiculous amount.
This whole hypothesis only works when the supply of homes is restricted, of course home prices also rise because of labour costs, but most rises are because of not enough supply and not mostly income I would be really concerned if home prices are mostly based on this, because this would mean that most productivity gains go into housing or land costs which basically only benefit land owners
We need to talk to teenagers a *lot* more about “cost of living” instead of just “hey, this job pays big bucks (and requires living where the rent/mortgage with be twice average! 😱)!”. 😬
Geniunely learnt more in this 26 minute video about the housing market than I ever have before 😂

Same basic idea I guess, hoping people with money will give you money to live in your house

I can relate, my house in somewhere like Durham would be like 3x cheaper at least

In 1991 my parents house was worth £17k now it's gone up to £600k.
Theres no way in going to afford a house😢

Why does Bank of America exist in the UK?
Ok
hey guys it's me doni bobes
Yes but there are no jobs in Yorkshire. So how are you going to pay for it?
I genuinely don't understand why anyone wants to live in London. Who cares you earn a bit more when everything is 3 times more expensive?
Something about the cultural experiences and easy access you get there but nowhere else is definitely appealing to some
these new British houses are starting to look American
Red brick houses are American now?
looks like it's time to brag about being first
