    I just wanted to thank you for this video. I too bought my PSVR2 at launch and after a while noticed the crap on the inside of the lenses. Not wanting to be without the headset for ages , I left it for a while. Only after 10 months and my left controller dying did I pack it up and take it back to the shop I bought it from. Armed with the faulty controller and the information in this video as a known issue, it was sent to Sony for repair and after 2 weeks, a new PSVR2 was sent out to me. The wait was excruciating, but thankfully, Sony came through. The fact that the unit was purchased from a store, and Australian consumer laws also helped.

    I swapped mine for a replacement, didn't have to speak to any one. Didnt even have to put a reason why i wanted to swap it. Got a returns tag free from library, put it on the box it came in, 14 days later, new one arrived.

    Dang. I noticed it on my first inspection on launch day.
    In my case it's near the edge & doesn't affect image quality.
    May consider sending it in, but sounds like not worth the hassle.

    my first one came with a scratch on the right lens, my second unit had a black hair?, glue residue on the inside of the left lens which was very sharp (looks like its on the screen itself). Luckily my 3rd one was good but sadly took me 1 month after launch to get a working unit.
    I had the same issue as you with the return, couldn't get any help with calling sony, the webchat didn't work for several days and took me nearly 1 week of trying before getting to anyone.
    Both times I had to return mine, I had to travel a 7mile round trip to reach the drop off point and the only offer of compensation I got was a £20 voucher that only works on Playstation direct so pretty usless.

      Sounds you like had a similar experience to me, it really sucks and we should be able to expect better from Sony as they’ve been doing this job for 77 years in the industry!

    Oh, I found the support on ps direct and it says that Sony are not responsible for damages when sending back. Well mine is already damaged and I can’t help thinking Sony will do me wrong.

    I have the same issue. After trying to navigate the website for support, I quickly found it to be a huge pain in the ass. After watching many videos like these, I decided I don't have the time or patience to go through such a long and frustrating process. The unit is just collecting dust. It angers me to use it and see those smudges. I basically got ripped off.

    My release day model had glue underneath one of the lenses but it's disappeared now. Only light scratches now just from cleaning with a clean microfibre cloth as suggested by Sony 🤦‍♂

    Yeah I’ve gotta contact Sony about mine, when the headset is on I don’t notice mine at all but it’s still irritating as I’ve spent over £500 on it so will see if I can get a replacement.

    Wow,I discovered what I thought had to be scratched in the middle of both lenses and I used no glass cleaner but only a clean microfiber cloth and couldn’t understand how I would’ve scratched them. Now I know it must be a defect.Thanks to your video I now realize there is a manufacture error.Thanks.I’m gonna call Sony.

      So, did it worked?
      My psvr2 lens just got scratched today, i suspect my glase were the main cause
      Will contact sony asking about this problem

    This issue is very true, even I have lenses with some dirt permanently embedded underneath edges of the lenses and no way possible to clean them

    Have you noticed the screen being slightly crookes and tilted to the left? This seems to be a common issue as well.

    Mine had a stuck pixel right in the middle of the left lense that would shine bright green in darkness 👍

    I went through absolutely everything, EVERYTHING you described when I returned my headset due to faulty controllers. After 30 days with no results I decided to call VISA and dispute the charge. They were extremely helpful and said they would open an inquiry with Sony. They also said I would receive a full credit for the purchase. Two hours later, I received an email from Sony telling me that my new headset was shipping and two days later I received it. Sony’s customer service is for SHIT, the worst I have ever felt with. I can’t believe I had to get VISA involved in order for me to get any results!!! Like you said, FUCK SONY 🖕🏻

    Holy shit.... I'm having the same issue over the last month.. All the sudden this long smudge has appeared on the Inside of my lens... Contacting them sounds like it's going to be a nightmare!!

      Yeah contacting them will likely be a pain but I think you’ll be okay, once they have received it and they realise they can’t clean it with a lens cloth they will most likely just replace the unit :) let us know how you got on contacting Sony, I’m hoping they have made the contacting process easier since I posted the video!

    I've got a lot of scratches on it. I bought my psvr2 from Facebook so it's used. I think the previous owner was trying to clean it but maybe with some product and now it's bigger, can I change the original one?

    Thanks for the video... It's because of these videos we have some kind of quality control at all with the products we spend 600+ bucks on. Always "Try" to stay a generation behind in technology.. It will be cheaper next year anyway.

      You won't get one back. They will send you a refund. You need to open a chat asap to get the ball rolling. They will just sit on it. Worst service ever.

      It won’t affect headset image quality output, however it will affect what your eyes are seeing. It’s the same effect as wearing a pair of glasses with finger marks and smudges on the glasses lenses. Either way paying such a large amount of money for a new piece of hardware, you should always expect it to be brand new perfect condition, and not damaged. That’s why we have manufactures warranty so it can be replaced if there are manufacturer defects :)

    I find the bigger the company the harder it is get results… other than your dirt in inside are you happy with it , I have quest 2 and was going to change to psvr2

      I agree! And yes it’s superior to Quest 2 in every way except for the current PSVR2 games library, which will grow slowly as it is new hardware. I posted a review of the headset just a few days ago, check it out :)

    That's why I buy from CEX. 2yr warranty & no quibble return.
    Never had any issues with getting replacements, just show the receipt with date of purchase & they'll either refund or replace.

      I think you missed the point, it’s a brand new hardware release and is only available direct from the manufacturer. This won’t be available in second hand exchange stores for a while, and you wouldn’t want a second hand VR headset anyway due to sweat seeping into the headband which can’t be cleaned out

    Almost a year later I noticed one of my lenses was blurry. I wiped and nothing. I shone a light and it’s dirty in the inside. It looks like spider webs. I definitely think it’s the heat from using it. Just started the RMA process. Wish me luck! 😂

    Mine is the coating peeling off, many will think is on the inside but is actualy on the outside of the lenses and i only use a soft glasses cloth to clean the lenses, several same cases on internet foruns, with pictures similar to my issue, on reddit,etc... now its some ugly smudges because of the remains of the coating, i never used any kind of liquid to clean, just the glasses cloth, tomorrow i will contact Sony to start the return process, still in guarantee, i hope Sony doesnt be a bitc.. and acuse me of using liquid to clean my lenses just to dogde this bullet, they used some very bad and twitchy coating on the lenses! My psvr 1 lenses are still pristine after all those years, better lenses in outdated tech!

    I've got same thing on my first PSVR2 so I've returned it and got a new. And... The new one has those circles too. The problem is that those things aren't visible at first, so you can't see them when you buying the headset. I think that the glue comes off by the time you're wearing the headset because of the heat that VR and your head produces.
    Hope Sony will fix this issue

    Same issues had when I received first PS5 console. After a month of using it Liquid Metal comes out from his original place and smoke comes out from PS5
    Only Amazon was helpful to send console back to them.
    Sony UK shame you.
    They tried same with me to send console by RM 2nd class. And they ask me to insurance the package. And I said that it wasn’t safe to do it. Contacted Amazon where was original order from they helped me more then Sony. Even they organise door to door pickup.
    My opinion is it should be a recall like with cars and Sony should be doing and covering cost for faulty unit.

    I had the same cyrcles on both lenses. Try to clean it. No change. Than I pushed very hard with microfiber towel and it came off. I tought its from the inside but its not. BELIEVE ME ITS REMOVEBLE.

    Jesus, I've just had that same sinking feeling and found this video. Same problem! At the moment my problem is the awful customer service, I'm trying to enter the address on the return part of the website and it literally won't allow me to enter an address. No matter what I do it won't let me put an address in. Now hearing so many other people having this issue I'm starting to think I know why! If anyone sees this please I beg, help! I went on with a 'Sony expert' which seemed a bit like ya just talking to someone who owns a PS. Anyway he gave me a number to ring, which I'll be trying tomorrow.
