I recognise every point of his argument. I once laughted at a body-builder who could only do 8 pull-ups. To which he said they were hard for him do to his weight - so I added discs slung around my neck to equal him - and managed 8.
Like Ant, as a young guy I did everything to the extreme - learned from my time in the Royal Navy - and I'm paying for it all now in my 60's.

It's true about age but what you eat and suppliment to get optimal health and performance is very important. I hit my late 40s and noticed things go down hill but exercise, good nutrition helps me big time, a 2 mile run is no problem for me and I feel alot better after it. I listened to my body, it hates sugar now days, I have all sorts of side effects from even a bar of choclate so I try to keep it under 5mg a day and watch for the hidden sugars.

Well, I'm almost 62 and have been doing press ups and some weights on a regular basis for a few years. Depending on the day as well as my mood, I can do anything between 160 & 200 push ups in a single set. Occasionally, I will do a set of 120 wearing a 10kg sports vest. The most push ups I've achieved in around 1hr 20mins was approximately 1800 over several sets. Was getting into more weights recently but had to stop due to a shoulder/ac injury whilst curling. Was struggling with 4 reps @ 54kg and in a lot of pain, but was hoping to achieve 60 or even 70 kg curls on the E-bar.

Yeh..I should do that..just never think about it. I would do the SAS challenge but there's an upper age limit. I think Ant & Co should do a one off program to test if guys in their 60's can achieve combat fitness. I was in an artillery TA unit 32 years ago. Did my basic training at Woolwich and went on to start my commando training. Was 6 wks into my commando course and my wife kicked off over the TA, and gave me the ultimatum: it was either her or the TA. Lots of other crap going on and I handed my kit in. My sergeant was a decorated Falklands War hero who served in the Paras, and then transferred to 148 Command when he was involved in a raid on the Islands. He wouldn't accept my resignation and suggested I spent 2 weeks to reconsider my resignation. He said he had no issues with me and that I just got my head down and got on with it. But my wife walked out on me and took our three daughters. After 2 weeks out I handed in my kit..my sergeant said that it was too serious a situation and he wouldn't allow the army to split up a marriage.

Yes it is o.k. it's perfectly fine and exactly what people sign up for. He's maintaining a standard that must be met, that's the entire point of what he does and why people look to him for advice.
As for the beard, that's completely subjective and down to him to decide. Nobody with any self esteem gives a fook what is trendy or "right now".

Agree..although when you watch Ant interviewing the recruits for selection, he goes between looking directly at candidates and looking away. Is he observing and then evaluating and then considering the next move or question.

Obviously Ant can do all those pushups, but in that test, he was doing half reps and his arms were too wide. Those reps wouldn't count in the royal marines since its not the correct royal marine push-up technique they expect recruits to do. So, in that test, he would've failed.
