- Her Majesty leaves St Edwards Chapel wearing a robe of purple velvet and carrying the Sceptre and the Orb: And having exchanged St Edward's Crown for the Imperial State Crown, processes through the Abbey to the Annexe at the west end.
Do you notice how the women in the Abbey are completely, formally attired, in long, white gloves? It's the gloves that make the difference from a nice appearance to a grand personal presentation. Nothing else could do the same job.
May the Grace of God and of Her Majesty the Queen be with you...
Amen...

I celebrated my 9th birthday by watching the Coronation with my family at a neighbour's house. We all huddled round a B & W tv with a 9 inch screen. Afterwards the children of the two local parishes were invited to take tea and cake at the home of the Lord of the Manor. Simple pleasures on a never to be forgotten day.
I wonder how Queen Elizabeth feels as she walked down...
Jahnella Caballero watch The Crown.. Netflix
Jahnella Caballero Important
@@nella1091 The Queen actually made an ENTIRE documentary about this. Premiered in UK, USA, and British Commonwealth! - I guess since USA is Independent from the UK and still has British Heritage and British Traditions including BBC America, it was given to allow the documentary in the Anglo-American Revolutionary Nation.
its kinda scary to think most of the people in that room is dead...
Probably everyone but the Queen and Philip
Why? It's basically the case for every old movie you watch.
*are
Well Prince Charles was present at the Coronation and I know for a fact that one of the 6 ladies carrying the queen's robe is still alive, she was on the Queen's coronation programme on the BBC at the start of this year.
mattymattyC thank you for telling me that
This gives me chills omg. I’m from a country member of the Commonwealth GOD SAVE THE QUEEN
God save the Queen in 2019. Long may she reign, and be blessed with good health. Thank you, your Majesty for your service to the United Kingdom, it's Realms and Dominions.
Is it bad that I learned most of my facts from the show "The Crown"?
same
Amberlee Gladwell Yes
Nothing wrong for using it as a jumping point to learn the real history since there are instances where the show's writers have taken liberties.
Same
Amberlee G gotta start somewhere
Monarchies rule with splendor.
Rejoice, Rejoice, long live the Queen Elisabeth II!
Seeing it in color makes it even more spectacular.
Looks like a fairytale
yes, it reminded me of Cinderella after marrying the prince
The coronets and robes of the peers are kinda cool -- they should wear 'em far more often. Also, those British Army officer uniforms with the white feathered chapeaus are cool.
Like a Disney movie! Hope these customs aren't forgotten.
Agree. Very regal.
This was long before video. It was filmed in colour on movie film to be edited and shown in all the Commonwealth Countries. It was flown here to Canada and shown in theatres only 2 days later! This was a seperate film from the black and white BBC television recording. It's narrated by Laurence Olivier.
he became Sir Laurence in 1947, but fortunately Baron of Brighton in 1971 (thus to late for coronation) or we would have missed him narrating; his place would have been among the peers otherwise.
3:14 that was considered an "extreme close-up" of the Queen. The cameramen and director were specifically forbidden from filming any close-up shots of the Queen but at that particular moment she looked so wonderful and beautiful they couldn't help it.
Oh wow
WILLIAM TELL - as lovely as that sounds its not true. The cabinet were aghast that is was being filmed and gave the order for no close ups. When the Queen heard she said what stuffy nonense and over rode that decision.
why no close ups?
@@biancahotca3244 There is tons of protocol surrounding the Monarch
ummmm...the diamonds on the queen mother...holy CRAP
God save the Queen!
She was really beautiful since she was young😍
GOD save our GRACIOUS QUEEN!!!
My god you are soo handsome
To think one day no one will be able to recall this coronation.
Love the coronation of the QUEEN
Watching it today it looks like a movie wow !
Might be an American but I still give salute.
Next British coronation will be a king again.
I noticed how if a woman takes on the title of queen, her husband continues to have the title of prince. But if a man takes on the title of king, his wife's title changes from princess to queen. Why is there a change in title for the king's wife, but not a change in title for the queen's husband ?
Hannah Dare - Gentile I want to know too???
The rule of hierarchy. If the woman is the highest sovereign of the couple, her title (as Queen) remains above that of her spouse. Here, it would be prince (or duke). A king has a higher rank than a queen with all other things being equal. So, if there is a king and a queen, the king (male heir) is the higher sovereign; if there is a queen and a prince/duke, the queen is the higher sovereign than her consort.
Because when the monarch is a ruler queen, she is obviously the one who governs. And when a woman marries a king she is called queen but she can't rule or anything even nowadays which is sad... You shall read about real great ruler queens like faraoh Hatshepsut, Queen Christina of Sweden, etc. A pride for us women.
Good question
Hannah Dare - Gentile I think they consider the King to be the ruler and the queen to be his wife. If a woman sits on the throne, her husband will be called a consort in order to not confuse people(since the crown has landed on her head not the husband's).
Ive seen long cape on monarchs in the history book in my history class but this one is huge
I remember this. It was televised on American television.
*Pretty Good Quality Of Camera For Something So Old..*
My favourite Queen Elisabet GOD SAVE THE QUENN

Actually this is the Recessional. Processional = Entry. Recessional = formal exit.
ratna shakya Good point
Processing into her reign
Normally, yes, but in coronations, its her Processional as crowned monarch, even though she was leaving the Abbey
God save
She looks exactly the same
Beautiful right
Kathryn Downin she really doesn't

How would a coronation look today? :D
This is one thing that won't change.... even for the next generation.
I don't know
Well she would be older even older than me and I felt that the only thing was SHE IS GREAT
UM LEGADO DE TRADICAO E RESPEITO , QUE TODOS , DIGO TODOS RESPEITAM ATE HOJE SEM MONARQUIA
C'est de toute beauté ...
What is the song that played after the National Anthem? (started while she was going down the steps)
Gloria
I think it's "The Te Deum" that was specially composed, but I can't tell as the damn sound is so fecked up!
Thenk you very much!
How long do they walk ?
Until the end of the Abbey
where I can find the full video of this ?
Magnifico registro!
Who was the lady behind Princess Margaret that people were bowing to on their way down the aisle?
toofreshtoday its the duke and duchess of Gloucester the Queens uncle and aunt in law
toofreshtoday wrong, the lady was Princess Mary, sister of George VI. she was escorted by her brother the Duke . The Duchess followed behind, escorted on either side by her sons.
Actually I think immediately behind Princess Margaret is Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester (The Queen's uncle) accompanying his sister Princess Mary, the Princess Royal. Then behind them is the Duchess of Gloucester with her two sons on either side, Princes William and Richard of Gloucester. The Kents would have been following them, but we got a shot of a stained glass window instead at that point.
What's the song name that's playing as the queen mother is walking?
Thank you so much
+Cassie86R it's actually Gloria
Thank you so much
+Cassie86R no problem :)
*****
Thank you
Zadoj the priest??
This coronation was as much about bolstering the British psyche after WWII as anything. This young queen and mother embodies the deep historical roots and pointed to a renewed prosperous future. She is stability and progress in one package.
Today such pageantry in the face of economic hardship would seem insensitive.
I thought they were singing the American hymn #MyCountryTisofThee. I was so confused because I thought 'America' was established in order to escape the #monarchy 🤔👑😆
American Anthem copied the UK anthem. Even the founding father could attest to that.😁
what is the music at around 5 minutes in?
It is Gloria in Excelsis, written by Charles Villiers Stanford for the coronation in 1911 of Queen Elizabeth's grandfather, George V. There are several good quality performances available on UA-cam.
Beautiful
All white and all slim, how Britain has changed.
Love the voice of the narrator. Does anyone know who it is?
The Late Great Sir Laurence Olivier !! Best British Actor that ever lived
Fabulousness
La mujer mas grande que la historia ha conocido, Viva por siempre y para siempre Isabel II del Reino unido de la Gran Bretaña e Irlanda del Norte y sus otros dominios.
Elizabeth II "La Grande"
What does she really do
She the figure head of England. Her power is divided among the royals and the Parliament.
Simply look it up... Jeesh
Can someone please tell me why the Queen mother curtsied with the others in the balcony when she was also "Your majesty"?
+deldee Because even though she's the Queen Mother, she's a subordinate to her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, who occupies the throne. So, just like everyone else, must show respect to the monarch.
Remember: The Queen Mother was Queen by marriage. Queen Elizabeth II is Queen by birthright.
+deldee Her daughter was now the sovereign, that's why.
It does, thanks a lot.
+deldee The Queen Mother is only Her Majesty by marriage to the King. She curtsied to Her Majesty the Queen. I always thought it was interesting that even the Queen's children and grandchildren bow and curtsy to her as well.
Her daughter is the actual sovereign. The undoubted Queen by birthright.
grande regina!
It's so long.
😍
