It's because the hymn "Zadok the Priest" tells about the coronation of the King Salomon. So, they can't change to "Zadok the Priest and Nathan the prophet annointed Salomon QUEEN" hahaha it wouldn't make sense 😉
Definitely we will and I'm very looking forward to watching the Coronation in May this year. I can't believe this is going to be on my birthday which is amazing!
The words to Zadoc the priest have been said at every coronation since King Edgar the Peaceable in 979. The words were set to music by George Frederic Handel for the coronation of King George II in 1727.
This is the best version I've heard. It's pure epic. Even more so than usual. Brings tears to my eyes. Pure genius from Handel. May the Queen rest in peace.
Here today on the day of our Majesty’s passing. Thank you Ma’am for 70 years a Queen to the United Kingdom of England. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland 🙏
For the record that incredible rendition of Zadok the Priest was performed by the Westminster Abbey Choir and London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sir Adrian Boult.
TOTALLY INCORRECT`! Dr (later Sir) William McKie conducted the music DURING the actual service. Sir Adrian only conducted the orchestral music before and after the service. It was NOT the LPO either. The Coronation orchestra, of 61 players, comprised the best players from EXACTLY 15 professional orchestras from around the country - including the BBCSO, LPO. LSO, ROH, CBSO, SNO, HALLE etc. The Abbey choir was joined by the full choirs of St Paul's Cathedral, St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle and the Choir of HM Chapels Royal, then augmented by choristers and lay clerks from 18 other choirs around the country numbering 385 in total! All this information, and much, much more, is in the Abbey Library for viewing and research purposes, which is precisely where I got it from.
How utterly moving to see our beautiful Queen so young and to know what we know now. Her faithfulness, her loyalty and decades of service to Great Britain and her beloved commonwealth - our brothers and sisters! I will always miss her ❤
This is the most stunning version of this epic anthem I've ever heard. The 1953 version had the edge on the 2023 version, as amazing as that was. It always moves me to tears
Traditional choir that’s why. Charles had male and female singers, which whilst is lovely for inclusion, creates a different sound than how this music was intended to be sung. Also, considering how many cutbacks were in 2023, I bet the ‘53 choir is bigger
I think this version is more powerful than the latest one. I really like how the organ is brought in. It doesn't take over but it adds that little kick.
I think the haziness of the recording makes it sound better because of the age and the fact that the recording looks more grand.Adds that glorious flavor
I’ve just listened to both versions and the difference between the two is, firstly, the age of the choristers; I understand the average age of the choir in 1953 was much older than in 2023 and therefore they produced what you might call a fatter sound. The second difference is better quality microphones in the modern age. In this version the higher ranges, which are occupied by sopranos, strings and flutes, distorts. That’s simply down to the quality of equipment they had at the time. I think nostalgia also plays its part too.
She is perfection here - that stunningly simple gown and the graceful way she moves in it. All eyes on the young woman about to be Queen. The grainy black and white images, the distance the TV audience has to keep, the slightly imperfect sound which matters not a jot - it's all just breathtaking.
I think the b&w imagery and the drizzly overcast weather somehow gave the long transmission its own style: silver and gray concentrated attention on the action of the figures. The discreet placement of cameras (not too many prying close-ups) and the slow editing rhythm- shots had to be mixed rather than use fast cutting- give the ceremony a hypnotic, meditative quality. If you prefer color and standard filmic reportage, try 'A Queen is Crowned', the documentary shown in cinemas with Laurence Olivier's florid narration.
I wonder if either Zadok or Nathan could ever have imagined the invocation of their names in quite such a powerful way as Handel allows and demonstrates so magnificently here - some several Millenia later…. on a little Northern European island. Pull away the veil and what are you left with? An ordinary women with of modest ability and little imagination. But wrap her around this and anoint her with oil, and hey presto, what do you have? A goddess
She was a very special person, the like of which does not come along likely. I can't think of anyone in recent history who has given so much over such a long and sustained period of time. God Bless you and keep you, Elisabeth Secundo Regina. With love from your People.
Solomon failed God, this Anthem also predicts the eventual fail of The Monarchy. Towards the end of Queen Elizabeth's ll's long reign, we now see a Catholic Prime Minister. Prince Charles always has his mind opened to the mystics and occult. Camilla Parker Bowles shares her birthday with the execution of the Romanov's. God punished Solomon through his off spring. Rehoboam, Solomon's successor was a fail, not popular with the people, raised taxes.... Handel was brilliant, (Piscean), he chose Solomon for this majestic masterpiece for good reason.
Because the slower tempo emphasizes the stateliness of the occasion. Charles wanted to keep the tempos up because he wanted a slimmed down coronation. He lost the stateliness of the 1953 version. Interesting to realize.
Only music as perfect as this could adequately accompany and magnify such a transcendent moment as the anointing of a queen. Historically, it was the right thing to do, allowing tv cameras to film the coronation so the country could observe.
But, as you see, Queen Elizabeth II's anointing was hidden from view---hence the canopy at the end, about to cover her for that part! It is expected from the released Coronation Liturgy text that for HM King Charles' anointing, a screen will be used so that no one sees this most sacred part of the entire liturgy.
Think how many times Charles must have viewed his mother's coronation. And he was present, at 4 years old, in the balcony with his Aunt Margaret and grandmother the Queen Mother.
This is like no other hymn. Brilliantly written by Handl and it brings forward the crowning moment. Historical and epic in the history of the British Monarchy. 🇬🇧👑🇬🇧
Nothing more exciting, vibrant and mysterious than the anointing of the Kings, a simple act loaded with tremendous millennial symbolism that unites the holy spirit and divine grace in a mortal, until the Supreme One claims it and the anointed courteously and submissively He delivers it having fulfilled his mission among mortals. The wonderful genius of Handel knew how to transform a combination of musical notes into an enveloping, grand and pompous symphonic environment.
We visited London that summer - watched the Coronation on the only tv in my grandparent's neighbourhood - in the local pub. An alto who recently retired from the choir of the church where I often play sang in the 400 voice choir. She was studying voice in London with Roy Henderson - a famous baritone and teacher. The great accompanist Gerald Moore also sang in the choir - said he cried through the whole service. I still choke up every time I hear 'I was glad' The 'Vivat's and trumpet fanfares are my earliest music memories.

@Martin Baldwin-Edwards How do you work out that the Queen was German? Her mother was Scottish, her father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandmother were all British.
@Martin Baldwin-Edwards Yup. But you can't tell ideologues that. The Saxe Coburgs are of the House of Guelph. Take it far back and all these mafia bloodlines are of Roman patrician origin. The Saxe Coburgs are granted their position by far more powerful elite houses such as the Aldobrandini, Colonna, Orsini etc. Rothschilds are minions. Evil to the core, all of them. Heck, even King Charles bragged about his ancestor Vlad the Impaler. All roads lead to Rome. End of.
@@archiebald4717 The British Royal Family is of virtually 100% German ancestry. Of course all of the ancestors, monarchs and consorts, were British, but ethnically they remained remarkably German for several generations. King George I spoke only German. The Royal spouses (consorts) were all German (except Queen Alexandra who was Danish), because the British constitution didn't allow the monarch or consort to be Catholic, and other countries such as Spain and France were traditionally Catholic. The language spoken among the British Royal Family as late as the reign of Queen Victoria was German. The Royal Family's German origins became a problem during World War I and it was then that they officially changed their surname to "Windsor" from "Saxe-Coburg and Gotha," the German Royal House which Prince Albert was born into.
Queen Elizabeth's coronation was the very first thing my mother ever watched on television at age 14. Neighbors had bought a TV and invited the neighbors to watch with them.
At the time of the Coronation, my father was doing his National Service in the Far East and my mother a sixth former at grammar school. I have played this work at Orchestra (second violin) years ago. Such great music is very befitting a grand occasion!
Ive loved this piece ever since I first heard it in 1977 when it was used as the theme for the BBC series Royal Heritage, a wonderful series about the Royal Collection.
This recording presumably from 1953 is significantly slower than the current 2023 performance. Which allows me to better follow the music. It's a big help in the more ornate sections.
For sure. We had ppl in the chat asking questions since commentators were terrible at explaining things. We had to take time to explain the process, the meaning, the music, everything.
Seeing this after KC3's ceremony really goes to show how much we're in decline. God, why couldn't they summon similar choral forces last Saturday? They had all the money in the world for a cheesy Lionel Richie/ Katie Perry concert, but putting up a little bit of scaffolding in the Abbey is too much to ask? What fckng joke.
this is 100 per cent more powerful than we got on saturday, you need the abbey to be packed to get the power of thses anthems. though the vivat greetings were flat as well, they should bellow them out and the archbishop fiddling with the crown when he placed it on charles head
The Queen gets to hear this sung by a full choir each year, on Maundy Thursday (the day before Good Friday at Eastertide), while she hands out Maundy coins to deserving old folk (she does this in lieu of washing their feet, as Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, to demonstrate that the greatest shall become least). She hands out as many coins as her age, so her task increases as she gets older. She stipulates that 'Zadok the Priest' be sung.
@Martin Baldwin-Edwards Do you really think it's practical for a head of state to wash people's feet in the modern day? Sure it doesn't compare to what Jesus may have done but those folk need the money more than clean feet
@Martin Baldwin-Edwards I love the idea that a man with a double-barelled surname talks about class and snobbery. (like the Queen, your poshness is not your choice fault nor under your control but..the irony remains good fun. CHEERS!😊)
"So where did your youtube rabbit hole take you this time?" "I found grainy footage of the Queen's coronation in England. I started off looking for Neon Genesis Evangelion videos."
You don't need to fear; she formed and trained her son and heir very well. He is far more popular than most media want to admit, and he has been preparing consciously for this role for 70 years. He also embodies much of all that was best about her late Majesty. God bless her memory, and God Save the King!
My parents were both born before the Second World War. My father a 20 year old National Service conscript in Hong Kong and my mother a Grammar School sixth former aged almost 17. Both old enough to remember the event.
I was 9 years old watched the whole ceremony, even in black and white it was breath taking.I loved the music but most of all the call ' Vivat Regina'. I don't think 'Vivat Rex' will sound as good.
As she was interred the image of her being anointed in this scene came to mind. As they removed the crown from her coffin, I imagined her returning to a young woman, in spirit, again - relieved of her earthly duties.

My parents had the only television in the family about 20 people crowded into a small terraced house I only wish I had been there everyone over the age of 10 have gone now RIP all and to our late queen
Mum remembers watching this as a young woman in Yorkshire, one of the few homes with a television, neighbours piling in to watch the coronation with my gran serving sandwiches and endless cups of tea, despite her own opinion that the monarchy were 'expensive ornaments'.
Government Hooker i was born in Lambeth that day, its about a twenty minute walk from the Abbey, my grandad hired a telly so that everyone could watch the Coronation together, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, and uncle tom cobbley and all, they all arrived with sandwiches and flasks of tea, so they wouldnt miss anything, all really excited, not just for the Coronation, but to actually see a telly at home. Well they were all enjoying themselves, when my mum started going into labour, they had to dash up the hospital, and missed the lot.

Pull away the veil and what are you left with? An ordinary women with of modest ability and little imagination. But wrap her around this and anoint her with oil, and hey presto, what do you have? A goddess
And to think you gave up all that?
I gave it up for something greater.
@@iluop3623 for love?
Standing on such tradition Is it any wonder how they loved tossing gay men in the clink?
"Magic" = manipulation by deception.
I can hardly wait to hear this for William.
Long live the Queen and she did live long and serve the country and commonwealth well!
She was a very special person, the like of which does not come along likely. I can't think of anyone in recent history who has given so much over such a long and sustained period of time. God Bless you and keep you, Elisabeth Secundo Regina. With love from your People.
Poor King Solomon never had this magnificent music for his coronation!
😂😂😂 humorously sad but true
Presently the British monarch is the only Royal of any kingdom that is head of both church and state
@@graceandstrength5186 Good point. Unless one considers the Vatican a state?
Birds and jinns were singing for King Sulayman
Gives me goosebumps each time I hear it...
"Jesus Christ is Lord"
This is stunning. The music so uplifting. Sounded better here than King Charles' Coronation.
So joyous. I love this ceremony.
This is like no other hymn. Brilliantly written by Handl and it brings forward the crowning moment. Historical and epic in the history of the British Monarchy. 🇬🇧👑🇬🇧
River sent me to this channel. This is SO beautiful. Love from 🇺🇸
Nothing more exciting, vibrant and mysterious than the anointing of the Kings, a simple act loaded with tremendous millennial symbolism that unites the holy spirit and divine grace in a mortal, until the Supreme One claims it and the anointed courteously and submissively He delivers it having fulfilled his mission among mortals. The wonderful genius of Handel knew how to transform a combination of musical notes into an enveloping, grand and pompous symphonic environment.
Oh the majesty and wonder of it all!
When Queen Elizabeth won UCL

RIP You're Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II 😥 Long Live The King!
The Queen was anointed as we were at baptism to remind us that we are part of a royal priesthood
I have so much respect for the Queen, she was such a gracious human being . Thank you lord for her long life, the strength you gave her, for her thoughtfulness and of course I can count just how many things I have to be thankful for to you oh Lord🙏🇿🇲🇿🇲💕💞she realky showed love to all races and religions. Kept peace among countries through the Commonwealth. Loved her to death. Thank you Mama 🇿🇲🇿🇲💞💕❤️💓💕
She was anointed to lead the new generation in the second Elizabethan era.
And she perfectly did it ....apart from corrupted government
For me the very best perfomance of Handels Coronation Anthems...1953 with a wonderful choir and a very young Queen...I love the Queen....she stands for continuity, tradition but also for progress! 🌹warm regards from Germany...
I think the same 🥰 Greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽❤️
@Martin Baldwin-Edwards as were the Angles and Saxons.
I’m just amazed they uploaded this to UA-cam in 1953
At the time of the Coronation, my father was doing his National Service in the Far East and my mother a sixth former at grammar school.
R.I.P. Queen Elizabeth II. May her memory be a blessing!
I sincerely hope that no commentator will speak during Zadok the Priest this time.
My Queen, my country. The Greatest ever. Bless you your Majesty, thank you for always being their all my life. A standard bearer and example. ❤️💐
I cannot listen to this without stiffening a tear and I’m an old man.
3:47 I think one of the Queen's consort must've gotten a text message during the annointment.
She has now gone to be with the lord in heaven above. AMEN
Amen
This commentary >>> today's BBC commentary on CR coronation for sure
For sure. We had ppl in the chat asking questions since commentators were terrible at explaining things. We had to take time to explain the process, the meaning, the music, everything.
The best rendition for the best monarch ever.
Their will never be another like her she really kept her promise and served us to the end RIP ma’am
This Great Coronation Version of Zadok The Preist Performed 70 Years Ago For Our Great Queen , Remains My Favorite To This Very Day !!!...
Such a big responsibility for a young girl never be another so dedicated
I love his accent. People should still speak like he did.
Zadok. What a fabulous name ✨
Beautiful just beautiful RIP our Queen and thank you 🙏
cant wait to hear this on saturday !!!
Adoro está musica de Handel, ainda mais agora que nossa querida rainha Elizabeth II, se foi... Estará para sempre ligada à está música!!!!!
The privilege of watching the past when her Majesty's little lad is now King.
this is 100 per cent more powerful than we got on saturday, you need the abbey to be packed to get the power of thses anthems.
though the vivat greetings were flat as well, they should bellow them out
and the archbishop fiddling with the crown when he placed it on charles head
This choir also seems to have included grown men with developed gonads, which makes a difference
Breathtaking. I can't wait for the coronation. I will take to my knee and swear allegiance to my King.
I have always wondered what she was doing while this song is played .Thank you so much for clarifying ! What an incredible Queen
I didn't know this. Thanks for the info
@Martin Baldwin-Edwards Do you really think it's practical for a head of state to wash people's feet in the modern day? Sure it doesn't compare to what Jesus may have done but those folk need the money more than clean feet
@Martin Baldwin-Edwards True
@Martin Baldwin-Edwards I love the idea that a man with a double-barelled surname talks about class and snobbery. (like the Queen, your poshness is not your choice fault nor under your control but..the irony remains good fun. CHEERS!😊)
"So where did your youtube rabbit hole take you this time?"
"I found grainy footage of the Queen's coronation in England. I started off looking for Neon Genesis Evangelion videos."
Ha ha I get it, it's because Handel is played in Evangelion.
Wow SO POWERFUL. LOVE ZADOK THE PRIEST. ❤
Beautiful. Thank you
Just throughly amazing. Watching this the night of Charles coronation!
no one in the future will come close to her remarkability, I fear for the future of the country
You don't need to fear; she formed and trained her son and heir very well. He is far more popular than most media want to admit, and he has been preparing consciously for this role for 70 years. He also embodies much of all that was best about her late Majesty. God bless her memory, and God Save the King!

I was eight years old when I saw Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation, and I have loved Her Majesty ever since! God Save the Queen!!

May God save you too.
God bless Her Majesty! The longest serving head of state in the world. And the most dignified one.,..
Yes - God bless!!
2nd longest.
We will not see her like again, so much the pity. God save the Queen!
Interesting to hear the background and history of this.
Unforgettable moment.Elizabeth is living forever.
As she was interred the image of her being anointed in this scene came to mind. As they removed the crown from her coffin, I imagined her returning to a young woman, in spirit, again - relieved of her earthly duties.

This is the most sacred part of the service. So instead of stopping talking and let you listen to it. I will talk all over it. The first bit is the best bit and everyone talks all over it.
My parents had the only television in the family about 20 people crowded into a small terraced house I only wish I had been there everyone over the age of 10 have gone now RIP all and to our late queen
Aqui só tinha dois pequenos anos, não recordo, mas hoje sei que foi uma grande Rainha, que Deus a receba na sua santa Morada.
Bless Her Glorious Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. God Save the Queen!
May God bless Her Majesty. 🇬🇧
Mum remembers watching this as a young woman in Yorkshire, one of the few homes with a television, neighbours piling in to watch the coronation with my gran serving sandwiches and endless cups of tea, despite her own opinion that the monarchy were 'expensive ornaments'.
Government Hooker
i was born in Lambeth that day, its about a twenty minute walk from the Abbey, my grandad hired a telly so that everyone could watch the Coronation together, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, and uncle tom cobbley and all, they all arrived with sandwiches and flasks of tea, so they wouldnt miss anything, all really excited, not just for the Coronation, but to actually see a telly at home. Well they were all enjoying themselves, when my mum started going into labour, they had to dash up the hospital, and missed the lot.
In fact the Monarchy is not funded from taxation.
