    The guy whose car Ant Man fell on top of was Garrett Morris. He was the first person to play a live action version of Ant Man. He did it in a Saturday Night Live skit in the 70`s. And yes, in the comics Ant Man was an original member of The Avengers. But this is the cinematic universe.

    So many thought the idea of "Ant-Man" sounded really asburd and dumb. Turned out to be a massive hit. Blew my mind and made me realize Marvel knows what they are doing. Same with Guardians. A raccoon and a tree.... likable as characters? Never thought it would happen lol.

    • @TheBlackQueen
      @TheBlackQueen Рік тому +25

      A big part of it is also the actors. The idea of Ant-Man is bound to be a very insignificant hero personality, so they had fun with it and brought in comedic actors that we could relate to as people enough to really feel for them when shit got serious. It's the perfect blend of drama and comedic relief.

      @@nathanlawson313 In this case, they had to really go above and beyond with the visuals and art for Asgard, but give Thor a down-to-earth test of character where he doesn't have his powers. That way it could ease the fans into the space and magic settings of the MCU which was largely unexplored at that point. Also, having Thor be portrayed by Chris Hemsworth, one of the tallest and handsomest actors available was perfect!

In this case, how they set up at the start of the movie that Luis has one hell of a punch ("I'm still the only guy who's knocked him out"), which is then demonstrated during the heist when he one-shots multiple security guys.

    Originally Ant-Man is Hank Pym and he actually created Ultron in the comics. I'm glad the movies don't follow all the original story lines of each character so it feels fresh and not an entire retelling. This movie is one of my favorites out of all of them. I really enjoy the comedic portions.

    • @SteveChiverton
      @SteveChiverton Рік тому +11

      Agreed. I was also intrigued when I heard that Yellowjacket was going to be the villain as an old time comics fan as in my childhood memories Hank was also the Yellowjacket. [I think after his first 'Goliath' iteration where he got stuck at 16 feet for a couple of years?] I know a lot changed in the comics between the early 80's when I 'moved on' for a few decades despite it being the same characters. Not following the original storylines is great as far as I'm concerned because it was the 'freshening up' that has enabled older guys like me to 're-invest' in Marvel and find new versions of the grand old characters to enjoy all over again! Not sure how I'd feel if it was the exact same stories from the 60's and 70's told the exact same way.

    • @Sinewmire

      Oh yeah. In the comics, Scott didn't have the crazy posse helping him steal the suit, but that's one of the things that I loved about the movie. The Yellowjacket thing was weird, because Hank Pym was also Yellowjacket in the comics.

    When Darren was talking about selling to HYDRA, if you look closely one of the guys there has a tattoo on his neck with the symbol of the Ten Rings: the same terrorist organization that kidnapped Stark in Iron Man 1
    It’s easy to miss if you’re not looking for it but during the subatomic scene there’s a quick second where you can see the silhouette of someone in the background

    Thing to note : Hank Pym is one of the smartest beings in the Marvel Comics. Same level of intellect as Reid Richards, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner. In the comics Hank Pym is the one who creates Ultron, not tony. They made Tony his creator to link the suits. People would be more incline to believe stark creates him because he has the tech to do so. This version of Hank isn't the same as the comics but they did a very good job. This movie is an underrated MCU gem.

    In the comics, if I remember right Hank's shrinking serum was developed so he could study ants from a little closer up. It wasn't until after that he realised the martial potential for his discovery.

    So the Hank Pym the original antman, and Janet the Wasp (his wife who went subatomic) were both in the comics part of the original avengers team. Hank was also the original creator of Ultron.

    Lol, saying "They didn't feel the need to blow it out of proportions" in your final discussions was a pretty good line for a movie about shrinking things... :)

    Fun bit of Marvel trivia: In the comics, Ant-Man (Hank Pym) and the Wasp (Janet Van Dyne) were founding members of the Avengers, while Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow were not. Scott Lang was introduced as the 2nd Ant-Man in 1979.

    Approximately, the first 33 years of Marvel Comic Books (1961 - 1994) were one giant cohesive story that linked together thousands of complex characters and events. The Multiverse of Marvel got too big for itself and the Marvel Lore Hierarchy & Cohesion dissipated slowly during the mid 90's.
    Around this time (mid 90's), Marvel began building their MCU project to recapture "the giant story cohesion spirit" in movie format. By the time Disney purchased Marvel in 2008, phases 1, 2, & 3 were already in the works.
    MCU Phases 1 & 2 were fairly concrete yet had some Disney ideological changes entering the stories. We see more significant Disney tampering appearing in phase 3. Phase 4 is pretty much all Disney Ideology but with Marvel's enormous source material to draw from.

    While not my favorite, it is one of the movies I tend to rewatch the most because Paul Rudd is awesome. Never would have expected to see him in a Marvel movie but he did great. It’s also a great movie for those who aren’t as familiar with the previous phases so far. There IS mention of the Avengers and you do see Falcon but other than the post credits it can technically stand on its own, just like most of the other solo Avenger films. This and Guardians of the Galaxy are both Marvel films that really stand out for the comedic approach done well. I agree with you that the effects and the transitions and the camera angles were all done super well too, having a character who can shrink and grow is really cool and we as an audience get to experience that with him. Loved how your face lit up seeing that little Stan cameo, that’s how I felt every time I spotted him too. I can’t wait for Civil War, it will no doubt be high in your ranks. It’s definitely high on mine, so many great new characters as always, fantastic villains and there will be a lot of returning characters even further cementing themselves in the mcu. 😄

    This is my favorite Marvel "Super-Hero Origin" movie.
    Scott is the first guy to "become a hero" in a Marvel movie.
    (Strange and Shag-Chi are the only other solo movies with people who "become heroes" within their movie. All The Guardians were first, but they're a group.)
    Tony, Bruce, Thor, Steve, Peter, T'Challa, Hope, Carol, Nat...all started their Title movies as "heroes."

    Even though he is tiny, being stepped on wouldn't hurt him, because he's at the same density as his large self, just in a compact form. That's why he burst out of the vacuum cleaner, and left a crack on the tile from falling, instead of taking the damage an ant would. It would likely be a really practical form, actually. One of the reasons I find this to be one of the more fascinating powers: very unconventional, but very handy.

    Fun fact: Ant-Man was actually in development since around the same time as the first Iron Man movie. Edgar Wright was originally attached to direct but as time went on the MCU evolved, Edgar's vision didn't fit the current tone and story the MCU had evolved into, so Peyton Reed came on board and took over as director. While some stuff from Edgar's script remained in tact, I still would have liked to see his movie

    Ants have exoskeletons, bones on the outside squishy parts inside, if you were that tiny they would feel smooth and hard like smooth bones but far more dense like marble stone or slate granite. It would hurt to ride an ant. The thorax is like their midsection joint where they bend like we do with our hips, it would be like riding a bull at a rodeo.
