hey Ronny, don't know if you'll see this but there's a European company that made a solution to fit a larger tyre on the rear door. it's basically a steel bracket that shifts the tyre carrier position a few inches to the side to allow a 35 to fit on the rear door without obstructing the smaller rear door from opening.
Delighted to see someone who actually knows their sh1t putting this thing through its paces. Also excited by his reaction to everything done. It's an absolutely cracking machine but I will always feel the engine is the achilles heel. Maybe some additional protection here @ Ronny
@@Wickham09 I do a lot of mileage on Irish/EU roads so very good quality and I could honestly put my hand on my heart and say that at least 20-30% of cars I see getting towed are BMW diesels. I'm not sure why, but I've heard it's the common rail and high pressure system as a whole. I could be wrong though? Ozzie roads are a different animal in terms of wear and tear.
@@simon8089 fair, my thought was I see a lot of people swapping BMW diesels (M57) in to 4x4s online in Europe. Is the B57 belt, chain or gear driven? What would be the issue with the fuel pump? Might be electric in-tank pumps?
A piece of flat bar bent so it runs flat under the light bars on your rack and up on the sides to mount to the light bar bracket bolts would cut the light off your skylights and let you leave them uncovered. I work in film lighting in nz and we call it an under-chop.
Love the prewire routed setup because it is what it was built for. Military application and have things on standby and easy to fit. The fact that this vehicle has snap to fit areas means the engineering was built by some mechanics rather than just engineers. I have been a fan of this British offroad vehicle. Jimmy deville which I think you should interview has a landy defender.
I picked up the switching wire for the relay from the back of the RH headlight ,it is the easiest point to get to . To get to the rear of the driving lights requires the removal of the bull bar and most of the front of the vehicle. The power for the relay came from the aux wire under the bonnet behind the air cleaner but I was wiring a light bar to the bull bar
Just thought I'd let you know, we hav just finished taking one north to south own the Oombulgurri Track. Never missed a beat; ran like a Swiss watch; and conquered all. I was in my LC200 (which also did very well), but was very impressed with the Ineos' performance. Shod with Maxxis Razor AT811 275/70/17.
Dude, that is insane. I liked the idea of the Ineos when I first ehard about it, and now I'm starting to love it... and I don't even own one. Makes me want one so bad!
Hey Ronny, Nice setup Mate! We can only get the petrol version here in The States. Wish we could get that diesel. Look at putting King Suspension on that. They ride so much better. And look at a Fox steering stabiliser.
Looks great! I've been waiting for this to drop as I am looking at tyres on mine. That seals it as I was thinking 315/70, but having seen the door clearance, there's no way they'd fit. 305/70 it is... Its so annoying that we cant get the metal bumper and the bars here they really look the part, and with the amount of deer on the roads here i'd be a lot happier with them on.
I am absolutely wishing that you get to love the Grenadier Ronny… throw in a monkey wrench into the mix with the other three (3) Land Cruisers 😂 I’m planning for a Troppy but I want to finish your review of the Grenadier first… particularly how effective and efficient it is for camping and overlanding. Lots of info in this channel 🎉
From one Ronnie in Seattle to another, great vid man!! I appreciate what you put into your work. I think I saw Owl Outdoor in the states makes a cool replacement bracket for a bigger tire. 2 Grenadiers on order here and looking forward to more videos of your experience. Cheers!
Such a great vehicle. They sure did their research and development to suit the real off-road buyer. The more you show the features of this machine and the mod potentials the better it gets. So many options and huge potential for serious travelling. Ive never liked the funky grill/nose, but that bar makes it perfect. (Ronny, your use of 'positive offset' when comparing the rims just adds more confusion to people that don't fully understand that Pos is towards the hub and Neg is away from hub.)
i'LL Bet you that those powered outlets on the roof can be controlled by the BCM and not the normal standard auxilary wiring standard. If that is the case a very simple software adjustment could switch them off and on with the high beams. The Panniers (For want of a better term robbed from the motorcycle world) look like an excellent option for external storage. Plenty of extra drag though on a highway trip.
Yep, love it. Partially a biased opinion as I am a Defender owner, however, I can't buy a new traditional-type Defender any more. This really is what Land Rover should have done.
Hey Ronny, I am one of your followers from the Sultanate of Oman.. This is the first time I see you without your Land Cruiser..!! I am obsessed with the Defender, the appearance of the Grenadier has made it my number one target now. However, the specialists advised me not to buy the first model, or even the fourth model, for several reasons, including that these models are still in the process of experimentation and development, and the prices of spare parts are exaggerated, for example: a replacement car key costs $1,200 dollars..!! Since I have confidence in your experience, I hope that you provide specific information in a clear and frank manner in your upcoming episodes, for example: fuel consumption, diesel/petrol engine performance efficiency, internal/external design defects, air conditioner efficiency. Please provide a complete evaluation of the car from all technical and mechanical aspects.
Great video. It’s good you have got your hands on one so we get a proper review and not BS. Will be good as well to see how it goes on a long trip. I’ve done 5k miles in mine and even on some fairly long journeys the hump hasn’t caused a problem. I also have the built in winch . Where did you get the number plate cover from as mine came fitted with a plastic cover with two screws. Not great. Looks a lot better with the bars on.
I had UHF radio mounted on drivers side front roof mount and ariel cable wend down same channel as the front right outside plug wiring. I can send you some photos if useful. Let me know. Rob
Did a Grenadier testdrive last weekend on a tour with hard off road tracks, was impressed about the capability of the vehicle. Ronny, how do you handle the limited weight capacity, since the empty vehicle alone is already 3 tons. Do you think you‘ll manage it without a GVM upgrade?
About time.... the nano second it was announced I immediately assumed a bunch of guys would have built these things up , ideally improving the steering & slapping some better tires/ wheels.
An option would be to put a similar sized footrest in your current 4x4 and see if you can get used to it especially on a long trip, as this would be my biggest gripe about the vehicle
The steering issue is because the caster angle is off now after the lift. This is why you typically add adjustable control arms with a lift so you can get the axles caster angle back to -5 degrees or so. It will drive a lot better.
Ronny, lots of things to consider. I think the car is awesome-absolutely. But it’s not a South African or Australian oriented vehicle. We also need to look at The cooling pipes of radiator. This is a problem with many off road vehicles. The BMW engine is very reliable but can it be applied to this application
Great video, the car looks awesome. It bugs me you say it fits nearly 35" tyres when a 305/70/17 is only a 33.81" tyre (if it runs true to size). I'm sure it can take a 35 with no lift too, but I think for future check online regarding metric to imperial tyre size conversions :) A question I had about the car is after looking at the underside of one at a 4wd show, it seems that many of the steering components hang really low, especially the steering damper in the front end. I know it's got bashplayes but unfer flex or after a lift these wouldn't be doing too much. Have you found anything like this becoming an issue when crossing over large obstacles or rocks? Looking forward to the next video, been really enjoying this series
I checked the frontrunner specs a few weeks ago and recall the weight of the 3/4 rack to be close to 45kg. I may be mistaken, I was a beer or 5 in when I looked.
Love it mate. Interestin our troopy with 35" Toyo M/T we have that sound, you explain. Never knew what is was, like a droning sound. Is that what the mud terrains produce? What causes that. Great vid mate & well done.
Yeah muddies are noisy, nothing like old ones but, caused by large deep tread blocks , smaller and each tread block being different size will reduce noise, the noise is mostly caused by harmonics, there is a few good vids on it and how they have made tyres quieter I think newmind did one recently
You lift today 40 mill, so that’s a proximately inch and a half? What did you do about centering the axles after lifting it? I don’t know if the Grenadier has adjustable track bar? Did you replace the track bar or use relocation rackets? After lifting were you able to adjust to get enough caster out of the front end? 👍

A similar problem on a vehicle in the Netherlands was sorted out with complete vehicle replacement under warranty, which is kinda nuts. It does look way more balanced with the moderately larger tires and the grill hoops
For anyone interested : Universal window mounting frame $599(per side), Pantry $1450, Eibach springs $1142 (plus fitting cost), 20L lockable jerry can holder $639, 30L fuel tank $399, Fuel pump $159.
ouch !
not bad
Not terrible, apart from the springs.
I have always believed that a 34" tire is about perfect. I would do either 285/75R-17 or 255/85R-17 . Looks amazing though.

Why do you think the engine is an Achilles heel? Genuinely curious
