Great to see you liked the Grenadier so much! We're currently on a 5-year trip in a Grenadier across the world towing a Patriot X3, which we live in. We set off from London in mid-July 2023 with our two young kids and we’re approaching 50000km. At least 70% of our journey has been off-road...
Not a snorkel, not water proof. What you're looking at it a raised air intake to keep dust out. It comes standard with 33 inch tires, but can take up to 35 with a 2 inch lift and a very minor mod to the front part of the front wheel well. The Grinadier is not a rock crawler but still had great articulation. It's a purpose built overland wagon made to last a long time. These things are awesome. Way better than the original old school Defenders, which although tough, are wrattle trap farm trucks that happen to also look cool. There are pros and cons, but overall, well done.
Here in the UK we get them with a 3 litre diesel too. That's the one I'll opt for. Owned 2 Defenders and loved them but they were rough. Currently have a Toyota Hilux (modified) which has never let me down but I'm ready for a switch soon.
I'm buying one spring 2025. Heading down to Loreto, Baja California, to my house there. I am planning a 6 week baja excursion, stopping and staying at several jewel spots that I have on my list. Grenadier Baja excursion here we come
Love this thing. Retro aesthetic yet fully featured and well thought out. Seen a couple in the Toronto area putting around and they look awesome. Ready for zombie apocalypse. Those exterior door rails are where you mount your rocket launchers and machine guns
Thank you for the video, but……….. when you focus on switches and the “tool belt” and don’t acknowledge the robustness of the frame and the cardon front axles and full floating rear axles, high pinion clearance…….. then complain about the price it demonstrates that you not only don’t know what the Grenadier is it shows you don’t know what your jeeps lack. Watch “Dirtbox Overland’s” review and watch Ronny Dahl’s series of not review but driving, modifying and touring the Grenadier. $76,500+- gives you everything, anymore is junk that doesn’t advance the purpose of the Grenadier, heated seats pfufff.
My thoughts exactly, this was a decent review but it's the same thing everyone else has done and it's very superficial. no mention of the axles, suspension, approach/departure/breakover angles, which BMW engine it is, the ZF transmission, load/tow ratings, how solid the body is...when I test drove one the first thing I did was stand there and open and close the door a dozen times, it's the most solid door I've ever felt, felt like I was getting into a tank. He missed a lot of the arguably more important details. But he is a jeep guy, so....
@@Ricky16317 I’m a jeep guy, from my first car a 1980 CJ5 and every other iteration since except a YJ. Jeeps are great and there isn’t a better platform to modify into a toy period. But Grenadier, like you are saying and with which I couldn’t agree more is different, exceptionally different and unlike anything that has ever been offered. That’s why I bought one and have a Quartermaster on order. 👍
I drove one recently, just sold my LJ. I've driven a bunch of the four door Wranglers which I like. This one is a different animal. It's really a great product. It's snaller than a Suburban, more useful than a Tahoe. Far better than the Bronco. I think people need to drive it and see for themselves. It's a little expensive but maybe not when you figure out what mods you don't need to do.
nice seen a few on the road like the looks , soild axles ! a basic utilitarian defender , not a 3 row luxury family school bus with independent rear axle for that smooth ride and leg road for the 3rd row no need for air suspension
I've been in a few of these, very nice. I especially like the quartermaster edition. One thing I'm still trying to figure out is the frames come in at least 3 different colour's. Black, Red, and white.
The walk around the stationary truck was done 6 months ago by everyone. I was kinda hoping to see some on/off road testing. Ya know gove us a reason why to buy it over the cheaper Rubicon or Bronco w the factory 35s.
Great vid. I’d love to know real world mpgs with it loaded like that. Not 55 mph on a flat highway. Mix it up- stop and go, highway at 70 mph in the mountains, low range crawling, high range dirt roads. Given the not huge fuel tank and rather poor EPA numbers before an mods or loaded, this would be extremely useful data to have. Maybe a future vid?
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 i haven’t seen any modded tho. Having a modded Jeep Gladiator I know that effect. Lol. You seen anyone give numbers modded with RTT, winch and stuff all over the outside? I’m guessing 14 or maybe even slightly less since EPA is 16. It’s gonna suffer the same problem as Jeeps with that windshield and front- trying to move a box through the air at speed. Lol
My highly mod Jeep JL days may be numbered! This thing looks awsome! If Jeep doesn't take note of this, then they will loose customers like myself. Great video as always
Super cool rig! They should change the gear selector to look like the control stick of a fighter jet. Ha I have been eying this vehicle for a while and would be really interested to see another review in six months, as you mentioned.
I test drove the Quartermaster LWB Pickup at The Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK yesterday and was blown away with its performance in a muddy chalk pit with some 31 degree hills to climb & decend- They also had a V8 powered version of the Grenadier stand - Check out The Alu-Cab Silenus Roof Conversion - Cheers from the UK :)
Those are only diff locks, wading, downhill descent, aux power - stuff you only touch a couple of times in any given run, and basically while you’re stationary - you don’t want those junking up the main control panel - that would be TRULY overwhelming and you would have to have baby buttons to fit them all together. That’s one of the problems with the stupid Doug review - he acted like you would be flipping wading mode on and off like your audio volume. It’s rarely engaged, so it’s out of the way - simple solution.
The diif locks should be in front of you where you can use then with barely a glance...same as in most military vehicles....not overhead and behind where you have to take your focus off the road to find and use them
Wish we got a diesel version in the US . Just saw a video where kings is making a shock kit for these. Are there lifts out there that offer more than 2” of lift?
Interestingly, the Subaru m y & L series vehicles from the 1980s, including the wagons and the Brumby/Brat ute, had the same bonnet stay arrangement. The Brumby also had the same optional glass roof hatches which could be removed and stowed upright in the cabin behind the seats. Also, I think you'll find that 'snorkel' is not designed for protection against water ingress. Edit: It seems that Ineos used the English spelling of tyre, which is fair enough given that it is a British-based company. In the English language, tire means 'to become fatigued'.
When you look at the size and thickness of the frame you’re going to start to realise where some of the cost comes from. 2,700 kg. If you drop the cosmetics of the higher models the price is reasonably. But you should have the diesel. Your countries import tariffs might add a lot to price.
I’ve seen vids on this where the front suspension doesn’t extend much better than an IFS one. The cost of this is a bit more premium, but it isn’t out to lunch if r the quality / longevity is there with electrical and power train. Compared to a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, this isn’t a big leap above the MSRP. It is a big jump vs 4Runner, but maybe not as much with the new 4Runner TRD Pro / Taco Trail Hunter (everything is so pricey these days). I did get to see this in person at the Sportsman show in Ontario, and the cabin is pretty neat, but there were some things that made it a little less impressive / less desirable. For the record, I have a 2022 4Runner TRD Off Road that I bought new 2 yrs ago ($52,500 before all other fees), and spent a good amount of cha-ching to get it where it’s almost done. Rough numbers, which includes some things I shouldn’t have bought is about $25K (roof rack, roof top tent, steel front bumper with winch / light bar, skid plates, power station, 12v fridge, tires, rims, SwitchPro, hatch ladder, etc.). I think some of that cost would be reduced with a vehicle like this, but obviously there is still a gap on my 4Runner purchase.
Comparably equipped it’s a more than a Gladiator Rubicon. The Rubicon you are referring to has all the luxury bells and whistles, which the 82K Grenadier does not. All in with all the essential offroading mods and similarly equipped features the Gladiator Rubicon is still cheaper (that is with an Alucab Canopy) and has more room. Grenadier is super cool, but pricey (everything is an option on the base or get the Trialmaster and it starts more expensive) and less space compared to any mid size pick up with a cap. Also can add a camper (like the Alucab or Harker or GFC) to a pick up and there is no comparison. Just look at how full the back already is and it’s not even packed for a trip. He still needs lift and wheels and tires (the ground clearances on stock tires is not good for wheelbase length) and a sway bar disconnect (stock flex is not that good, especially for a solid front and rear vehicle). Also will need to move the spare so as to fit with the ladder with 35s (apparently there is an aftermarket mod for this), not sure if a 37 will allow small rear door to open let alone fit with ladder bc I just have not seen one yet on 37s. Better than a Wrangler for overlanding, worse than a Wrangler for wheeling, worse than a Gladiator for overlanding, I assume should be a bit better for wheeling just because still not as long wheelbase, but remains to be seen- Gladiators wheel pretty well. I think if I were going Grenadier for overlanding I would do the roof conversion that Alucab sells for it. To me the ability to have everything, including getting to your sleeping quarters, inside the driving space would be the main benefit compared to a pick up with a cap and RTT or camper where you have to get out. It would be like an old VW bus on roids. LOL. i have no idea of the cost of the conversion though.
Comparing the IG to a Jeep is a fools errand. These are completely different vehicles marketed and aimed at completely different buyers and tasks. The IG will be a great overland vehicle. The Jeep is a good vehicle as well. It’s about the right tool for the job.
It seems to me that the screen turned out to be uncomfortable. The light falls on him. It was necessary to make a visor. The text is small and hard to read. Especially while driving. The data is located separately and is not clearly separated from each other. There is a lot of unnecessary information on the screen. The readings of the tachometer, speed, current gear, lock, steering angle - all this should be in front of your eyes. Menu control via a rotating wheel is, in my humble opinion, an extremely inconvenient option. If they began to imitate aviation ergonomics, they had to continue further. To abandon the touch screen and joysticks and build navigation in the same way as it is implemented in an aviation computer and in ATMs - through side buttons with dynamically assigned functionality. And make the screen more contrasting (OLED).
I like the overall exterior look, made it look like a previous gen defender, which I like. I'd prefer a little simpler and a diesel option, too many buttons and technology imo. I'd take an old defender to build the way I want if I were to go with that style rig.
It's a nice upgrade on my 2009 Defender 110, particularly the larger diesel and auto. However, there are too many electronics for my liking. Other criticisms I have seen are that there isn't enough ground clearance and the traction control seems inferior to Land Rover's. It doesn't need bigger tyres though. They would just ruin the braking and fuel economy. Here in Australia, a 900km-plus range is essential.
You mentioned Doug’s video - this is WAY better than his, but that’s b/c you guys actually get out off-road and know what you’re looking at. And you didn’t even get to the fun part underneath!
They seem pretty cool but the Diesel is not available in the USA. I’m interested to see how the electric Grenadier is going to look and the price of it.
They are not fog lights. They are driving lights. In Australia they switch on with high beam if you select the roof switch to on. Honestly they are not very good but the standard headlight high beam are great.
Just want to know... will the Grenadier keep going with a bunch of stuff is inoperative? Like, will it still start up and run as long as there is water in the radiator and oil in the pan..?? All the modern nanny functions are there to alert the operator, but not shut down the vehicle ? I've crossed the Sahara and last thing I want is a vehicle to stop working with some kind of electrical software glitch. Has it been built for rugged mining duty? Ranching in Brazil? Peacekeeping in some $hithol3.? Don't want a "Limp Mode" to kick in because of some emissions malfunction.
I love these things but the push button handles are kinda terrible. Not sure why they did that. The pull handles are my favorite upgrade Jeep made from the JK to the JL/JT
I have personally been frozen out with ice sheets and freezing rain from pull handles on at least 3 occasions that I can remember- absolutely frozen solid. Push button, never. Knock off the ice with a rock (since your ice scraper is inside, and everything is frozen over).
I think it’s an awesome vehicle but definitely not enough ground clearance, for off roading for example the Ford bronco raptor with 37 inch tires that vehicle is tall enough to get through pretty much anything I prefer a little bit more ground clearance but that’s a good example of something from the factory that has plenty of ground clearance being an owner of 14 jeeps and the jeep 392 and Ford bronco raptor I have plenty of experience, but I think the grenadier is a very neat vehicle, definitely can be modified, problem is where do you get parts let alone dealer support and dealer service unless you have a dealer local there’s only a few in the United States, I am hopeful that this vehicle gets a large dealer Netwerk going soon and hopefully there’s some good aftermarket products for it and I feel that would make this vehicle pretty awesome.
Oh man - all I can think about is Idiocracy and Beef Supreme, with the Carl’s Junior tattoo. I REALLY think the Grenadier is not built for the 392 (RIP) crowd.
Hmmm… I’ve taken mine off road quite a bit and have never had any issues with ground clearance. I think it’s a pretty good compromise between every day use and off road use. With the front and rear lockers it’s just as capable as my Jeep Rubicon
Yes, the Grenadier is very cool, but it comes at a price, it's very capable but more of a overland vehicle, also the Jeep is convertible what the Ineos is not. A lot things the missing in the Jeep is due this. For me the Jeep is more fun to drive and the sitting position is also better.
So. I asked another Canadian off road adventure channel that is also sponsored by onX Off-Road, how accurate, effective and good is it for back road travelling in Canada. I did not receive a reply. I take that response as to mean no good. What is your honest review?
Watch Ronny Dahl, 4 Wheeling Australia, he is in process of a series of videos on a Grenadier given to him by Ineos to drive, MODIFY and tour for 6 months. If you know Ronny Dahl that takes huge confidence on the part of Ineos.
Too funny. This is pretty close to exactly the spec I’m getting delivered but with the factory winch. Mushroom loaded up Trialmaster. Basically I ordered a Mushroom colored “Everything Bagel” Grenadier, lol. The “car review” folks always get this thing all wrong. They review it as they would any other SUV or road vehicle with off road capabilities. This is an intentionally designed off-road utility vehicle with on pavement performance capabilities which as a bonus were discovered to be quite good. When I hear these car folks gripe about the steering being “sluggish and imprecise” I automatically know they has never had an experience off road where that wheel spun instantaneously almost breaking a finger (or actually breaking one or two, lol) and have no genuine appreciation for what the Grenadier was very specifically and very intentionally designed for. These are amazingly capable off road vehicles right off the lot beyond expectations but with a very comfortable and perfectly manageable on pavement driving experience. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Shame that theyre so slow because i really want one. Yes, theyre not built for speed but my current 4wd is so much faster and i dont want to go backwards
Thing about this is all the extra crap on it that one has to take to the mall for no purpose Perhaps it is built for the UN But the UN will still buy the 70 series as it’s a proven platform and isn’t a BMW
Lots of useless gadgets Just more to break. You probably get what you pay for. So I'm sure it's a good vehicle. And if it's been around for a while, it should four wheel reasonably well. I wonder how tight the turning radius is.
Check out Ronny Dahl, 4 Wheeling Australia. Ineos gave him a Grenadier for 6 months to test, modify and tour. I’ve had mine for 2 months and couldn’t be happier. I’ve owned and modified every jeep from 1980 CJ 5 to JL except for YJ. I currently have two 200 series Land Cruisers both well modified. The thing to keep in mind is the Grenadier is not a Jeep it will never be a Jeep. But what it is better in every way than a jeep and worth every penny by virtue of the cardon front axles, full floating rear axle and high pinion clearance not to mention the robustness of the frame and shear payload. Flaws? Reliability track record or lack there of and fuel capacity I.e. range.
They didn’t spell tyre wrong - you don’t know how to spell it. English - invented by the English. They know how to spell English words. The clue is in the name…
This is an international vehicle and if you are in Africa for example and you get a flat, it will be very hard to come by anything larger than a 33. That is why they usually have 31/32s.
So there's a thing called practicable... And the grenadier is built around that. Most all of the rest of the world doesn't need 35s to go anywhere and if you need them, it's an easy task to fit them.
NOT A JEEP! NOT A ROCK CRAWLER! Not like anything on the market today. By the way, if you put 35’s on a jeep, bronco or even the new Colorado and ask those vehicles repeatedly to perform on trails that require 35’s without axle upgrades, knuckle gussets and steering component upgrades you will have failures. If you want it to look cool at the mall, different matter. The grenadier has cardon front axles and full floating rear and high pinion clearance. These upgrades alone are worth the price of admission not to mention the frame, and no one even knows they exist let alone are standard on every Grenadier.

To abandon the touch screen and joysticks and build navigation in the same way as it is implemented in an aviation computer and in ATMs - through side buttons with dynamically assigned functionality. And make the screen more contrasting (OLED).
I keep saying that jeep needs to make a permanent hard top capable of taking roof top tents. Going more to a overlanding community.
BTW Ineos has copied the headlight adjustment on my Defender. And turning off the Defender's aircon also turns off the fan.
23:15 complaining over no heated steering wheel really is crazy lmao
It’s a legit complaint. It’s unacceptable in the vehicle with this price tag.
Brill video!!!! Regards Ian 👨🎤🇳🇿👍🍸🍸
waiting for the first person to put a bmw z4/supra manual behind one of these
You mentioned Doug’s video - this is WAY better than his, but that’s b/c you guys actually get out off-road and know what you’re looking at. And you didn’t even get to the fun part underneath!
I was in a Cap It store today!
They seem pretty cool but the Diesel is not available in the USA. I’m interested to see how the electric Grenadier is going to look and the price of it.
I do wish they offered the diesel in the US, but they probably didn’t want to deal with the strict emissions rules.
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 Yup, same thing with the new Landcruisers.
BTW the color is actually called "Magic Mushroom". The white is called "Scottish White".
It’s a great color!
Price out a fully optioned JL and there won't be much difference in the price! Jeep has gotten off the rails with its MSRP!
Tyre is in British English, Tire in USA
If your in Canada what did that thing cost you like close to $200k
They are not fog lights. They are driving lights. In Australia they switch on with high beam if you select the roof switch to on. Honestly they are not very good but the standard headlight high beam are great.
.
TYRE Spelt Wrong (LOL)?
I would have thought Canadians (Like Australians) would Use the English Spelling not the American Spelling………
.
(PHEU)
With all that L-track you could mount like 80 GoPros on it. 😉
Bahahahaaaaa
The color is magic mushroom. The white is called scottish white.
2:02 hank hill 😂
Shout out to Alu-Cab being a proudly South African company!!!
@@kevinmokracek5078but DUDE, it’s not a monster truck, so how can you POSSIBLY say it’s capable?! (Sarcasm emoji).
@@ElderStatesman-pi3lc🤣🤣🤣
Another box to drive down the road 😂 Not my choice, but there's always something for everyone.
NOT a snorkel dude...
I wanted to buy this thing, but no diesel engine is a deal breaker.
I wish we could get diesels here in the States again, FU VW group for Dieselgate.
For over 100k CAD that’s a hard pass for a lot of people
It's basically the same price as a new Rubicon
@@Casey250 no it actually isn’t lol
@@Casey250 priced out one and with decent packages and it’s around 75k
@@Casey250 no it is not
This is the truck Land Rover should have built, but didn't.
Yes, the Grenadier is very cool, but it comes at a price, it's very capable but more of a overland vehicle, also the Jeep is convertible what the Ineos is not. A lot things the missing in the Jeep is due this. For me the Jeep is more fun to drive and the sitting position is also better.
i want one.
I have driven one. I'll stick with my jeep thanks.
Isn't the color actually called Magic Mushroom? ;-)
You are correct as I found out with a bit more research.
@@SaltShack I was asking about onX-offroad. Not the Grenadier. I've watched Ronnys video to date.
@@johnboudreau5135 Oops, sorry. I guess I got too excited.
The hood opens the same way all BMWs use.
Just don't go over the speed limit lol
this car was made in a country where offroading is forbidden! It's like browing expensive beer in the time of the Prohibition! 🤣
Shame that theyre so slow because i really want one. Yes, theyre not built for speed but my current 4wd is so much faster and i dont want to go backwards
Too many buttons i like my jeep simple to operate
😂😂sure
800 mm wading depth!!!!!!!
This thing starts @ $71,000US. No. But more power to those who want one.
Tyre with "y", is British.
Thing about this is all the extra crap on it that one has to take to the mall for no purpose
Perhaps it is built for the UN
But the UN will still buy the 70 series as it’s a proven platform and isn’t a BMW
Mushroom white!? No
It's Scottish white
I believe its Magic Mushroom ;)
How is that a review of you didn’t drive?
Jeep built a Grenadier back in 2006. It's called the Jeep Commander.
not sure why it is wrong to point out tthat a $80k suv not having heated steering wheel, seat adjuster, or seat cooler? LOL
I tire of tyre jokes. Think about it.
Tyre is in English - Tire is American it is not wrong ;-)
Lots of useless gadgets
Just more to break. You probably get what you pay for. So I'm sure it's a good vehicle. And if it's been around for a while, it should four wheel reasonably well. I wonder how tight the turning radius is.
I'm sorry to say this, but this is useless. There are a ton of reviews like this. What's more interesting at this point is ownership reviews
Flaws? Reliability track record or lack there of and fuel capacity I.e. range.
Tyre is British English
Not sure how a jeep owner is qualified 😂 Land Cruiser owner
I'm UA-cam certified to do things 😁
Spelt tyre wrong, do you speak English? haahaa !
They didn’t spell tyre wrong - you don’t know how to spell it. English - invented by the English. They know how to spell English words. The clue is in the name…
Naw. Still wrong.
The fact it doesnt even come with 33's, let alone 35's is a major fail. I'm not sure what they were thinking.
This is an international vehicle and if you are in Africa for example and you get a flat, it will be very hard to come by anything larger than a 33. That is why they usually have 31/32s.
@paulhatzig7084 this
Also alot of ruch folk will treat it like they treat land rover defenders (old) so they probably just don't want ti limit the market too much
So there's a thing called practicable...
These upgrades alone are worth the price of admission not to mention the frame, and no one even knows they exist let alone are standard on every Grenadier.
yep...JUNK..
