Your so lucky to get out of the UK. Leave it up to them to make things difficult. When I moved to the UK from America, it took 3 years to get my permanent residency as the first set of documents they lost!
Tbf took us, 2 years and 3 months of multiple hassle to get residency in Portugal but I am glad to get out of the UK if I'm honest! They lot our, appeal here in Portugal too 😔 beurocracy eh!!
Aww, RIP The Sub, it served you well. Big congratulations on your SEF success🎉 what a journey you’ve been on with your visa application but all’s well that ends well. Now it can be all systems go!
So sorry for your troubles. Glad it all turned out ok with the visa. As a Portuguese born woman living abroad, the horrendous bureaucracy never fails to amaze. 😩
The probleam with the "horrendous" bureaucracy is that they should have applied for their visas BEFORE moving to Portugal. They did it the other way round: they moved, they stayed..., and then they applied... when they had already been living in Portugal for a while. I'm portuguese myself and the supposed "horrendous portuguese bureaucrcy" is not so horrendous when you do things as required. Luckily the portuguese authorities were quite benevolent...this time.
That isn't true at all. We applied months before during lockdown from the UK , and when we came looking for property it was the sef who told us to stay while the visa was processed... We reapplied as they lost our appeal so yeah beurocracy not us!
First of all, you lovely Van. So sad . The positive attitude you guys have regarding your residency has been absolutely admirable . Your energy you guys put out is absolutely great .
Very sad on the van but we do always try and find a positive and keep going regardless, been a mission to sort residency but all done now so overjoyed :)
That's fab news ,you have certainly seemed to been given the run around but it was all worth it . Its not the end of the sub just the beginning of a new story ..
Well done 👏 Watched your journey and you’ve shown that having positive karma along with persistence has paid off. Many sleepless nights, however congratulations are in order. Best wishes👍
Congrats on the visa, now you're all set. She did the same for us two years ago way up north at the Viseu SEF, working her magic while we waited in the hall area. Amazing. But that was still in serious covid times, so a lot of things were set up for minimal contact.
Who is this miracle worker ❤ Are you able to share? 😊 How expensive is expensive .... approx 😳 ? Congratulations on your visa etc sorry about your van, maybe she will roll again 🤞Something very similar happened to me back in the 1970's when I was living in Norway . The engine of my MGB soft top bust a cylinder....😢 What to do 😮 I was certainly surviving on a shoe string working as a DJ Eventually I hatched a plan...it took a while ! 😇 I persuaded my parents to pop out to the local shop to buy me, and post me a copy of the, by now legendary Exchange & Mart where I found an engine advertised🎉 And not just any old engine, but a gold seal engine 😅 Can't remember exactly what that stood for, other than it was another way to spell Good!😅 I somehow managed to buy it, can't quite remember how I did that, well it was a while ago by now . But I do remember that shipping from the UK to Oslo was 50 quid 😅 A pal of mine who was, still is, and still lives in Oslo a bit of a wizard, helped by me, playing nurse to his car doctor.... " that spanner there please nurse" took the old engine out, swapped over all the essential bits to the new engine and fitted it back into the B at the roadside outside my house in the middle of Oslo . I still cannot to this day belive all that effort was actually cheaper than simply having a new cylinder fitted in the Leyland main dealership in Oslo. Or was it because the guy at Leyland Norge who initially checked the bust engine on my MG, ran his hand lovingly along her bodywork and remarked , " beautiful cars these E - Type's !!! 😳😱😂
Absolutely marvellous news that you are staying to pursue your dreams of off grid heaven. So sorry about the sub that's served you well and just imagine if that would of happened somewhere, had you of still been vanlife travelling instead. Yep it's, an idea, was looking at a crafter to possibly canabilise but need to def confirm the engine can be made to fit... But I think it's, for a later day....
Over a years pain. Mine is a Nissan Primastar 2003. Converted it and spent a lot on that and then drove it 2 miles and the diesel runaway happened. Fitted new turbo, intercooler and pipes, it had burst a coolant pipe so replaced that and then had compression in the expansion tank. Garage said wasn’t head gasket and was air in the system, replaced thermostat and radiator then the head gasket blew. Had the removed, skimmed and new gasket etc. Started her up let her get to temp and the expansion tank was pressurising again. Checked the new thermostat that we had put in and it had failed and blown the head gasket again, repeated procedure again. Then was driving ok but then the turbo went again but luckily didn’t do any other damage. Another new turbo fitted and then the alternator went and suspension had to be replaced. Went to Isle of Skye and did the NC500 over the past 2 weeks and it’s blowing black smoke and used 2 litres of oil, done nearly 2k miles and was in kwik fit today having a front wheel bearing fitted as that went as well. Not having much fun, I’ve pretty much replaced everything else as well, all new suspension front back, all brake system callipers, pads, discs, cables and it still won’t run right. I’ve nicknamed her “Christine” after the film only she doesn’t repair herself, she’s just evil.
That's amazing news about the visa. Congratulations. Although it's a shame about the van it's still your home for as long as you want it to be. Very best wishes for your future in Portugal. Take care, and have fun. 👍
Well done with your visa! It's a massive relief isn't it. We are still waiting for our biometric cards (applied in Lisbon end of March) but they insisted in sending them to our temporary address as we were still a couple of weeks away from moving into our permanent home, so we have friends checking the post box there for us! But at least we have our paper residency papers, just in case LOL. Sorry to hear about the Sub..... but we can also confirm that vehicle matriculation is a jungle of paperwork...we're still negotiating that one LOL...
Thanks Sue, its such a relief and we have our biometric cards sent to The Wildlands, now we get post woohoo!!! so great to be official WE LIVE HERE :) AND yep we looked at matriculation NOT FUN! #Hope your cards have arrived?
Very happy for you that you got your visa. Are you thinking of building a small house. That would be great. Hope everything will be o n tracks. Big hugs from Lisbon.

Hey Guys great news that you are finally sorted with Visa and can remain and continue your great work on the Wildlands. Sad to hear the Sub has been grounded ( great adventures and memories) but not dead just in early retirement 😁 and still part of the family and a good home for you guys.
Hey guys, I'm so so pleased for you both. I didn't know that when you apply for the D7 that it lasts for 2 years. Also glad to know that you can renew on line. When you do, how long is the 2nd visa valid for? Glad to hear your good news, sorry to hear your van has packed up. Hope you get a solution so you can travel. 🤣🤣🙂❤️
When the application is done the correct way, from the country of residency before you move to Portugal, the D7 visa will be issued in approx. 90 days from date of application. The first visa is for entry in Portugal only, and the confirmation and issue of the D7 visa and residency documents is done in Portugal by SEF in a face to face interview. Initally the D7 is for 1 year, to be renewed twice up to 5 years, if all requirements are met, such as enough income and adequate accommodation. I believe it was this last ISSUE that caused all the rejections & delays in this case. We are not being told the whole STORY here.
@@donnacosta5633 your pasted info isn't up to date we've 2 years residency already and our renewal is online. Our biometrics are done.... If you want to see what's now old information you commented on those videos before, but all the info is there. Anyway we're residents now so I think you're meaning to say congratulations 😊
@@TheWildlandersOffGrid you are correct Wildlanders, as l checked with Expats Portugal and was told it's 2 years then 3 years then after 5 you can apply for permanent status.
On what a perfect world you live in, how wonderful it must be. I can only assume the reason you don't know the full story is because you haven't watched all the episodes..... Lots of people have had issues, lots of delays due to backlogs and changes now mean the D8 digital nomad is becoming a popular visa.
I'm so very glad your residency is now sorted out, it certainly has been a journey for you to get to this point. If you don't mind, may I ask how you got a habitation licence for the ruin as I understand it's not possible to do this?
Thanks on our residency💚👌 We applied via our lawyer to the Camara. It was a registered pre 51 ruin. We applied for planning, plus urban article, plus habitation licence, we go all 3. The sef recognised this to and we're registered here on the Wildlands for our biometrics. The application for urban article was easy ish albeit slow, took over 6 months, and we paid 600e in fees and taxes.
Here's a thought, what if the van hadn't died when it did but on a Thursday sometime later at say 7am... on a long journey somewhere and not on a quick trip to Castelo Branco... Isn't even the thought of that enough to make your blood run cold. It may turn out to have been a blessing that things turned out the way they did, after all the sub is still doing the thing it always needed to do which is also great.
Yep we said that too, imagine if we were on some remote beach somewhere..... So grateful for that in a way, as they say always look on the brightside 💚💚

Pity about the van, but at least the visa is sorted. You got a bargain with such low mileage on the car here in Almeria there's huge mileage on cars as the country is so big. We've got our 4x4 called DJ I love him, brilliant big tank! Best of luck going forward Portuguese residents❤
10 year old van and its knackered, I think of the old pieces of junk I used to drive. The modern vehicle might not rust but their sensitive soul's these modern vans.
Portugal is great until you need something. Then, of course, it's always 'difficult to get', 'rare' and extra expensive. Average folk in rural Portugal don't have a lot of dosh so , when an "estrangeiro" with a problem turns up, it's payday.
Get as much sponsorship as you can. Congratulations on your residency. Is it cheaper to buy an engine from the UK and get it delivered? You now have security!!!!!
So so happy for you to get your residencia. Sad about the sub its gutting when that happens but at least you can still live in him and use him later for guests, so he lives on. Happy gardening wildlands is coming along beautifully x❤

Would be great if you buy a Portuguese sprinter van ,same model and at your leisure swap parts from old to new. maybe even a yellow one?
Yep it's, an idea, was looking at a crafter to possibly canabilise but need to def confirm the engine can be made to fit... But I think it's, for a later day....
I feel for you. Mine had diesel runaway, sucked the oil out but went into extreme revs until it went bang.
Ditto mate and, what, was your outcome? New/recon engine?
Aw man that sux, what a, mare !!!
Hopefully eventually she'll be sorted, vans eh!
Hi guys glad it’s all finally sorted out for you now you’re doing a great job on the land thanks for sharing 👍
Cheers, Ray now, we can do some, serious gardening 😁😎💚🌱
❤ congrats on your Visa saga. Always think positive. Stay strong. 🙂
Thanks, José so overjoyed 💚🙏
That's amazing news about the visa. Congratulations. Although it's a shame about the van it's still your home for as long as you want it to be. Very best wishes for your future in Portugal. Take care, and have fun. 👍
Cheers Paul and we're over the moon, sad on the Sub but Rita is helping 💚
Congratulations! RIP Sub
Thanks so happy about the visa and yes rip/ 😭 the sub
Well done with your visa! It's a massive relief isn't it. We are still waiting for our biometric cards (applied in Lisbon end of March) but they insisted in sending them to our temporary address as we were still a couple of weeks away from moving into our permanent home, so we have friends checking the post box there for us! But at least we have our paper residency papers, just in case LOL. Sorry to hear about the Sub..... but we can also confirm that vehicle matriculation is a jungle of paperwork...we're still negotiating that one LOL...
Thanks Sue, its such a relief and we have our biometric cards sent to The Wildlands, now we get post woohoo!!! so great to be official WE LIVE HERE :)
AND yep we looked at matriculation NOT FUN!
#Hope your cards have arrived?
Poor Sub, but wayhay officially your home.
Aye she's still lovely, still very sad though 😥
Very happy for you that you got your visa. Are you thinking of building a small house. That would be great. Hope everything will be o n tracks. Big hugs from Lisbon.
Thanks we're so overjoyed 💚 and yes we are... be a cabin or may rebuild our lil house 🙂
I love reading comments. Congrats to all 3 of you. You get to stay in Portugal and you now have your visa. Thank you Paul for driving these great folks. Your nightmare trying to get the visa was horrid. Lawyers help. Do you own your land? I can’t imagine you failing. Kick that negative devil back to hell.😂❤
Thank you and zye onwards now and yes own our land, 💚
Our lawyer was, great a necessary expensive sadly... But all done none, and overjoyed 💚
Love our comments too so many peeps with so much positivity and kindness 💚💚💚
Awwwe I'm so sad about the Sub 😢I am so pleased you finally got your visas to stay in Portugal 🇵🇹 🎉🎉🎉, & love your new car, I have a " grand Renault scenic 7 seater, its beautiful to drive, 💙 looking forward to seeing your next video of your garden bits 😊🌿🌿🌿 hope Rosie is doing OK? 🌸🌸🌸 sending you all much love & hugsss 😘😘😘🌷🌷🌷💚💚💚🌿🌿🌿💗💗💗🌻🌻🌻💜💜💜
Thanks Jayne, really loving Rita lovely drive especially for her age ❤️
Rosie is well and enjoying swimming in the lake now it's warm and she's also happy about Rita so we can do things! 🤗
Lots of gardening to come.... 🌱
How's yours? 🌿🌴☘️🌳🌱
My garden is coming along slowly, it's never sunny & warm enough at the min, think I might have to re do some of my seeds, they haven't grown much, 🌿🌿🌿🌿 it will get there, we have filled out hot tub up, but I'm using it as a cold water plunge most mornings, 💙🌊 it has great health benefits 🤗🤗 awe im glad Risie is doing OK & enjoying the lake & your new car, take care all of you, sending much love 😘😘😘❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍
Aye remember England with me heater on in the greenhouse until mid may at least! Here it's, the opposite and actually equally as, challenging as today it's 34 degrees and it's not even may yet.... Working like crazy to finish the irrigation system 🙏💧💦💦
Soon you'll get inundated with seeds 💚🌱🌱🌱🌱
Hey Guys great news that you are finally sorted with Visa and can remain and continue your great work on the Wildlands. Sad to hear the Sub has been grounded ( great adventures and memories) but not dead just in early retirement 😁 and still part of the family and a good home for you guys.
Thanks very much to you both happy times 💚🙏😍
Sad to hear about the sub guys
BUT GREAT to here about the Visa 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Be safe guy's
Great vlogs 👌
Cheers and yep sad but bittersweet as so so overjoyed with the visa! Finally 💚🎈🎉😁
Cheers and yep sad but bittersweet as so so overjoyed with the visa! Finally 💚🎈🎉😁
Total residency is 5 years, and then you apply for citizenship 🎉 and thanks we're so happy 💚💚💚💚
Thanks on our residency💚👌
We applied via our lawyer to the Camara.
Thank you for the information, it's great to know it's possible.👍🙂
Pleasure and good luck ☺️
Here's a thought, what if the van hadn't died when it did but on a Thursday sometime later at say 7am... on a long journey somewhere and not on a quick trip to Castelo Branco... Isn't even the thought of that enough to make your blood run cold.
It may turn out to have been a blessing that things turned out the way they did, after all the sub is still doing the thing it always needed to do which is also great.
Yep we said that too, imagine if we were on some remote beach somewhere.....
So grateful for that in a way, as they say always look on the brightside 💚💚
@@TheWildlandersOffGrid I meant on April 20th when you were on the way to Lisbon to see the CIF... You know what Murphy's law is like. That thought even made me shiver. I'm glad that it all worked out so well! 😺
Ah with ya, breaking down on the way that would have been a differ3sort of challenge!
💙❤️
💚❤️💜
@@TheWildlandersOffGrid it always seems to happen you get some good news then you get some bad news you get some bad news and then you get some good news. Nice one guys
Yes true... Van broke quite some time ago just didn't get the vide2 done/edited was too depressing really 😒 but bittersweet as now overjoyed with residency 💚
So yes I agree with your good news badnews cycle!!!
Happy for you for the Visa, how about getting the engine& turbo transported from uk ?
Thanks on the visa so chuffed 💚
We'd need someone to bring us the engine, not so easy but defo a potential solution 💚💚💚
Sad about the sub but at least you won’t get fined for driving it! Really delighted about the visa saga finally ending 😊
Overjoyed on the visa 💚 tha k you 🤗
Not sure why we'd be fined doesn't have to be matriculated for up to a year after gaining residency, according to our lawyer, but moot as she's no more.... 😭 Thankfully Rita, renault came to the rescue
How are you enjoying Portugal?
So hot already eh! 🔥
@@TheWildlandersOffGrid I’m not over until June and spoke to a matriculation guy last week who said you have six months so I think the whole thing is guesswork 😂 Rita is cute, I look forward to popping over to buy some plants as matriculation guy is in Castelo Branco
Ah thought you were here already!
Exciting you moving over then?
My lawyer told me a year, same as, everything in Portugal 🤣
@@TheWildlandersOffGrid yep it’s nuts! We were over but back in Blighty until June then ‘home’. Can’t wait! 🥰
@@shelleypeppard4694 not long to wait then! 💚
See you when you're back to look at plants 🌱
Hi so sorry about the van I'm a van lifer and a mobile mechanic I'm thinking of going to portugal from UK this year maybe if I'm ever in your area I'd love to have a look at the van see what's up might not be as bad as u think.
Hi mate, that would he wonderful! Drop us an email if you're coming down 🙏🤞
Ohh thanks for the reply...I will let u know if and when .. I hope soon ..all I ask is somewhere to park if possible hehehe.
No probs we've plenty of space to park! 😎
Hi guys first congratulations on getting your visas omg what a mine field to stay in one country now you can pursue your dreams for the wildlands, sorry to hear about the sub it’s done well needs a long retirement.😊
Thanks Robert, I guess choosing this form of living was never going to be easy!
Id love to buy rita the renault when you are ready to sell!
Haha only had her a week! She is lovely and drives like a dream for an oldie 💚🙏
Mega congratulations. I am so happy for you. You managed to hide the worry well. Oh, the poor sub. So are the wheels going to be coming off, painted, and used for flower planters? Which part of portugal are you in please? X
Thanks, Mary and that's a good idea on the wheels! 🌱🌱🌱🌱😍
We're central castelo branco ish
Pity about the van, but at least the visa is sorted. You got a bargain with such low mileage on the car here in Almeria there's huge mileage on cars as the country is so big. We've got our 4x4 called DJ I love him, brilliant big tank! Best of luck going forward Portuguese residents❤
Yep car was a bargain and in such good condition for so old.... All our friends with old cars they've 100s of 1000s of km on the clocks....
We hope to get a 4x4 in Sept 💚🙏
@@TheWildlandersOffGrid you won't regret it, they're serious workhorses! Best of luck 🙏
I've never had one before quite exciting
@@TheWildlandersOffGrid ours has over 280,000 km, not a bother to it.
10 year old van and its knackered, I think of the old pieces of junk I used to drive. The modern vehicle might not rust but their sensitive soul's these modern vans.
Yep crazy was just a rubber gasket and it buggers the whole engine 🙄 it's got low mileage as well , guess just bad luck as the engines are work horses
👍
Portugal is great until you need something. Then, of course, it's always 'difficult to get', 'rare' and extra expensive. Average folk in rural Portugal don't have a lot of dosh so , when an "estrangeiro" with a problem turns up, it's payday.
Just not many sprinters in Portugal, not so much the price which whilst high, only found 1 engine here whereas in the UK it would be easy
Saves you getting another dodgy MOT
We were going to drive back in March for our mot 😒 and also go to morroco 😭 didn't think there was even such a thing as dodgy mots these days
Rip sub but good news atlast on your dream of living in over there ❤
Aw cheers mate! Yep very sad on the sub, how goes your travels in your big beasty?
@@TheWildlandersOffGrid all good over here in UK looking at buying land or woodland next year myself in UK
@@TheOffgridNomadUK definitely the way to go... Hide off grid 💚💚
start a crowd funding for a new van from portugal i will make a donation
Aw that's kind of you 🧡🧡💛💛
@@TheWildlandersOffGrid in europe you need a left hand drive van anyway its more save
Good idea, l was going to suggest likewise.
Aw fanx peeps but a van be over 10k 😥
Well done! I haven't watched the video yet but your top comment inadvertently let me know your good news 😅
Haha and thanks great news 💚🎉🎈
Get as much sponsorship as you can. Congratulations on your residency. Is it cheaper to buy an engine from the UK and get it delivered? You now have security!!!!!
Thanks and it would be a lot cheaper but would have to find someone to bring it over, that's the challenge!
So so happy for you to get your residencia. Sad about the sub its gutting when that happens but at least you can still live in him and use him later for guests, so he lives on. Happy gardening wildlands is coming along beautifully x❤
Thanks Hazel over the moon on finally getting residency and yes, sad on the sub but still doing a, wonderful 'hob' 💚❤️💚
The pressure is off, congratulations for those that just want freedom and to live!
Thank you and I know, I used to think we lived in a free world!
💗💗💗
🎉🎈💚😎
I’m delighted for you that the visa saga is finally over. Congratulations. Good on you for staying so positive. Any news on the pond?
Thank you we're overjoyed! 💚
Pond is lined, be a video up in several parts starting week after next. As we've decided to deck one end, plus fence it so it's safe for animals then landscape it and sow wild flowers up the sides etc... 🌸💚🌹🌱💐🌱
@@TheWildlandersOffGrid that’s great! Uuuuuuu can’t wait to see the vlog all about it. Isn’t it great that things are finally coming together?
Wonderful and thanks 💚
Congrats on the visa and residency 🎉 sorry about the Old yellow, but she can always be revived later, she deserves her retirement on your beautiful piece of heaven🌺🌷🌸💮🌹 💛
Thank you, I'm very sad on the sub but it is what it is, and probably meant to be and she'll be so useful and still loved on the Wildlands 💚
