Dear Rob's New Next-door Neighbours On the behalf of everyone on this channel I'd like to pre-emptively apologise for the countless hours you'll spend listening to random trivia about Poland Sincerely Random Polish Guy
A big problem for presenters is that their employer and their companies are in the hands of the government. If it is not the current government, then it is the opposition. In Poland, the two main parties have their own media giants. And they invite MPs from the opposing side to their interviews less and less often. The best example of this "Polish-Polish war" is the last presidential election, where the debates of the two rivals took place in two independent studios with empty seats - just for that rival. What I am getting at is that when interviewing a politician, a journalist has his hands tied and cannot afford to throw the politician out of the studio. Once, a journalist interrupted the broadcast of a conversation with an unpopular expert because he started saying that "LGBT are not people..." and the journalist made a scandal that society is not treated humanely. She took the beginning of the sentence (the essence of which was indoctrination) out of context and cut off the connection with that... scoundrel.

1:25 idk where they got derogatory from, afaik żyd is just polish for jew? Tho ig I've not met any jews with whom I could discuss minutia of how they feel about the names people use for them, but I'm pretty sure it's not derogatory. EDIT: Ok, as a later commenter pointed out, I misread the subtitles and misheard the audio, I thought ż-d was supposed to sound like "żyd" instead of "żydy" (which reads as clearly derogatory for reasons beyond my ability to explain) where the correct plural would have been "żydzi"
Żydy is derogatory because the correct form is Żydzi, can't take the subtitles word for word, the translation has some errors or missing context sometimes 😉

Expression "to be here in person" may mislead you. Literally the politician was asked: "why are you sitting here"? And again they just are playing with the words because in Polish slang it means "to do time" or spending time in prison
You are so wrong. In this particular fragment, the translator came out perfectly. He translated the Polish wordplay in such a way that he saved everything: the meaning and the wordplay and a related situational joke. And that is because in Polish, the verb "siedzieć (tu)" - i.e. to sit (here) - means 1. "to sit here" and also 2. "to be in person" (and that means "to be here", "to sit here" etc.), and also 3. "to be in prison". And in English, "in person" and "in prison" are wordplay too, that use the very similar sound of these words (person and prison).
