- In a step-by-step process I take a 5-door station-wagon SUV (Toyota Land Cruiser VDJ76) and turn it into a overland touring vehicle/truck. And while I do so share the principles I use. This is part-1.

4xOverland is one of the world's largest global 4x4 adventure motoring channels. It is hosted by well known explorer and filmmaker, Andrew St Pierre White.
This guy is the David Attenborough of 4x4’s
Kit Walker Though the same thing. Sounds just like him.
Nice BBC vid of the troopy used as an ambulance in Afghanistan.
except if you really listen to him he's mostly just saying the same thing over and over.
I think I would have learned something at school if he had have been my teacher.
I don't know man, hes on the wrong side of the road? Is he drunk?
Why am I watching this I have never offroaded in my life before
Now you will lol
I recommend buying a Jeep Rubicon if you want to get into, they're beasts off road
Same! I own a 4x4 but haven’t off-roaded or overlanded it. Yet.
just get a Toyota land cruiser 70 series if you're on a budget
Matt Gyver please don’t tell people to buy jeeps while going off road. Unreliable piece of work it is
This easily could’ve been 15 to 20 separate videos... good job on cutting out the fat and getting directly to the meat...👍 Can’t wait for part 2.
I agree with your point, but for some purposes, the "fat" is quite necessary. Not in this case, but now you made me want a ribeye, with fat!!
Just terrific. Not everybody is knowledgeable about things like this so this video is just the job. The advice given here is balanced, not condescending and comes from a genuine first hand experience. Top marks mate.
As much as this pains me to admit, for a South African you are light years ahead of anyone in Australia in terms of your off road common sense and your 4WD technical knowledge and it’s application. Your logic is indisputable. Simply amazing! 😲
Oh God. This Man, he is such a good teacher and he is giving me so positive vibes. I really love the way how he explain everything and he makes it so so Clear !!!
Great detail, Andrew. Especially appreciate how you logically explain the pros and cons of items that are in the same category.
Thank you so much for this video, Andrew. Though many of your followers are experienced off-roades and overlanders, having this type of video gives one a philosophy as they go about making their first purchases right up to the big ticket items for their rig.
I have been following this channel for over 5 years now. So far it's the best 4x4/travel advice channel I came across.
Andrew, this is such a great resource. Here are things you MIGHT find you need, and here is how to best determine if/when you need/want them. EXCELLENT!
Andrew, this has to be the most pragmatic, useful and interesting review I’ve seen. Very informative - thanks!
Fantastic! Love the check list approach and just the right level of detail on each subject. Looking forward to part two.
Fantastic video! I've been off-roading for a while but love getting all the basic ideas and principals on each system. Thanks for the content!
Excellent video! As a novice to overlanding I found it very informative and helpful as I build out my truck. Future videos expanding on the various topics covered would be great as well.
Wow! Such a great informative video! Probably one of my favorites to date due to the sheer information provided within! Thank you, can’t wait to catch part 2.
Fantastic video Andrew. I have been 4x4ing for years and you are summing things up perfectly! Keep up the great work.
I love that your opinions are your own. It is so rare on social media currently.
What I find amazing is that even though I have seen a lot of your previous videos and learned a lot from them, I still learn something new from your videos. Thank you
Ah my good man, great video. You make me chuckle in a good way.
Another excellent video, love the straight to the point, no BS explanations. Keep up the great work.
Fantastic Video. I am looking forward to the next. I just took delivery of my new adventure vehicle (2019 T4R TRD PRO) and have begun its build. I have learned much from your past videos. Thank you 🙏
Great stuff, especially for me you is just in the very first stages of a build. I really enjoyed it. Would love to see
more of your opinions on stuff you must have and things that you don't use anymore and why. May help the beginner avoid some issues. Thanks again
What a legend, years of experience evident as he flies through detail after detail you pick up only sporadically in other videos..
I get asked about this often as well and always feel like I'm ducking the question when I answer "It depends how you want to use your vehicle". So it's nice hearing the same basic answer from you.
Andrew, you're videos are so under rated! You're an absolute legend. Best knowledge in the industry.
Andrew, this is one of your best instructional videos! I enjoyed it very much and will strongly consider your advice.
Yes, well done here Andrew.
Very accurate and concise.
Nice to see the truth given and not hyped up marketing bs, like some YT channels
Unlike other videos that tell you what you need, this video tells you WHY you need or or don't need something.
Understatement of the century - a good puncture repair kit. While a simplistic video this is an awesome starter video. Subscribed!!!
Really really good video Andrew, just loved it. Your info is top notch, your delivery is very pleasing and I enjoy them very much, thank you.
Extremely good video, an enormous amount of information for someone like me just getting into this.
I just stumbled across your videos! FANTASTiC. What an excellent resource. Thank you. I'm buying an older 4Runner with low miles, and want to set it up for off-road touring.
Greeting from Brazil!
Thank you for sharing this content.
Even here on the other side of the world, I have used this information a lot.
Just by watching this, I really can’t wait for my 1990 LC RJ77 this Sept!!! My first LC ever!
Liking the video Andrew. Looking forward to the next installment.
Very nice overview of how to get started. So important to ask yourself what you are going to do with vehicle and what is needed to get off on your adventure.
I'm enjoying this series. Getting a few ideas as well. Good work, Andrew.
That detail about breathers was very important. Thanks for the information.
Thank you Andrew for your informative video. Looking forward to part 2. Cheers
The best kit video he's ever done. Thank you ASPW-
Excellent video (as usual)! I’m glad I have the totally beautiful and great working overkill ARB Twin Compressor for my 4Runner. Every time Mr. 4x4 St. Pierre White says something is not absolutely necessary, I go get it... :)
Wow!, Being a beginner as a safari driver in Kenya, this video is really helpful in understanding the mighty LC
Fantastic concept and execution for a video series. This is what they (we) want!!! Tasty stuff.
That's an awesome informative vid for rookies like me that going to put a lot of unnecessary things on vehicle, spending too much money for getting worst result.
Excellent job!
This is essential viewing for anyone wanting to get into 4x4 driving.
Its nice to watch a clip with 0 bias between brands and basically cherry picking the parts that you know work best.
Great video, really enjoyed the way you explained your process.
Top bloke, knows his stuff inside out.
Fantastic video, thank you very much. I appreciate you explaining everything in detail.
Love your videos... you should be more well known for the quality of information you give!
Great practical advice. Thank you Andrew.
jesus, I havn't seen this dude before, what a pro! love the "most compressors turn electricity into noise" so true
This guy is a legend. Should be a must watch for all new 4wd's
GREAT VID YOUNG ANDREW , take care.
Fantastic video, I’m new to this and this was very helpful, thank you!
Here in east Africa majorly Kenya , Tanzania, Uganda, Southern Ethiopia, somalia,Sudan, south Sudan and Eritrea this is what we always need
Good views Andrew and well presented as always mate .
Very good information about the 4wD need for any modify and protection of the car needs for any road conditions thanks for Advice
Thanks for sharing your wisdom and experience in this area :)
I learnt a say while guiding in Zambia, OVERKILL IS UNDERRATED ... very true to traveling through Africa
David Attenborough and Andrew are similar, because one reason, easy to listen to, also,. coherent, articulate, very intelligent.,last, thoroughly know their stuff inside and out.
you are the GAOT Mr Andrew..i love it
Best one I've seen you do yet mate!
Thank you.Very inspiring. About winches - have you consider external (removable) winch? You can keep it dry inside the car and use it front/rear when needed. I think it could be great solution when you using it once or twice a year.
Very informative video..planning to hv a 4wd tourer in the future🤘
Great video,love the unbiased information
Very helpful info! Great opportunity to learn.
We appreciate a lot your instructive and very practical videos. Well explained and clear. We are learning a lot with it. Thank you very much from Spain. LR Disco 95 300tdi. 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😀
This video is so informative! I’ve learned much more from this single vid than the thousands I’ve watched. Thank you! You’re awesome.
You are so welcome!
This video and part 2 will certainly be very popular. Once gain great video and thank you!
An honest answer to an honest sales person
That compressor looks like my Smitty built of the same size. That is a very nice compressor and pumps more air than many small compressors people have in their garage taking up 8 times the space.
awesome video - thank you for all the great information and for breaking it down for easy of understanding. :)
For new people to this, this is a very, very good info video… Well done Andrew…
Best video ever for me....on 4WD
Great, informative video Andrew!
very good Andrew have fun to buld it all ,, they will love it the way you have than it for them ,,,, gr8 Job .. and alot's of good idea's when you wandet to build a 4x4
The method I'm using is just take the vechicle out a lot and see where the limits lie and adjust accordingly. That way you prevent buying unnecessary "upgrades". I mainly use my vehicle on weekends for off roading with planned tours once in a while so I have the luxury to do that. Ofcourse when outfitting for a big trip sometimes you need to do it in one go so good tips for that kind of stuff. Tires and a good air pump are THE best upgrades when starting out by the way. Seen guys with ARB bumpers and expensive lighting getting stuck because they use road tires in the mud :D
Could be one of the best videos you have done.
The amount of info is absolutely priceless
Been trying to work it out, finally got it. This guy is the David Attenborough of 4x4.
Great video! I feel like in my favorite classroom!
Great video. Thanks for the knowledge!!!
"the cheap ones will turn electricity into to noise" hahahah... yep, I've had one of those, I've got a great ARB one now, I love it.
Great job and video Andrew!!!
Cheers from hometown Perth
will share with so many 4by-newbys!!
Excelent video with very valuable information. Thanks!
excited for part 2 .
Awsome video thanks lots of love from South Africa
Good video, very informative. I've learnt a lot.
Awesome. Now im well versed in google, but i would very much like to hear from YOU the ins and outs, pros and cons, dos and donts of a dual battery setup, hopefully youll find time to do a video on that subject, for someone with little info on the subject its hard to filter out things from people who have never done it, or done it wrong and are just blowing smoke. thanks!
Quiet elaborative!! Nice job my friend!!
Very nice over view!!!
Thanks, david, such useful info... excellent !
As someone looking to "kit up" their bakkie... thanks for this video... Have considered a few of the items mentioned, but never properly understood the reason for their fitment.
Love this. Thanks Andrew
THANK YOU OTHER GREAT DETAIL VIDEO AS giving LOT DETAIL IN WHAT DO IN BUILD OVERLAND 4X4 TRANSPORT FOR TRAVEL ROUND IN AUSTRALIA BUSH
You are really good at this!
Excellent and informative video..
Andrew, You are just amazing!!
Brilliant video with good information. It's super easy for average punters to make assumptions and blow too much money.
