Toyota were very clever in keeping these around for so long. Parts commonality means that you can travel anywhere and be able to source your essentials. It’s quite thought provoking to consider how many lives have been saved thanks to a 70 series. Thank you, Toyota. I hope to see these for many years yet.

This really goes to show there need to be more standards in the automotive world, same as in the computing world. Modularity lowers cost and increases repairability. I agree with you, there should be reliability and quality standards that the US and EU should make mandatory. The reason why they don't do that, I think, is that American and European manufacturers would have a hard time competing with the Japanese and Koreans on these parameters. Most American cars would probably need to be retired from the market entirely, probably every Tesla (which would make me happy, but would make upset a lot of people). I think a good compromise could be 5 years mandatory warranty that forces every manufacturer to fix every single component that may break in the first 5 years.

Still get governments using current Land Rover products, just not in the same environment as LC’s and for a long time when the old defender was around it was used in the same environments as the LC is now. Also to say anything Land Rover is the least respected off roader is a bit silly, especially when a new L461 Range Rover hosts better off road stats than a new LC300. The brand that makes the least respected off roaders if you can even call them that is BMW with the X range. And even with the reliability nonsense Land Rover have going on you have to give them credit for keeping the capability a 4x4/SUV should have across the entire range, with even the Evoque even with how up market they’ve gone.
