  • I share an alternative to expensive ammo and a trip to a range, with plastic primer powered bullets for indoor practice. They are made by Speer, and are available from many reloading component stores. Powered by large pistol primers only, they are relatively safe if used responsibly.

    Smacked my thumb at work, when a wrench slipped. drilled it with a tiny drill bit to relieve pressure. Doesn't hurt, but its ugly. Thanks for watching.

    my father used to have something like this 40 plus years ago. I remember as a child shooting them in the house at beer cans on a rocking chair. it would get my mother so pissed blowing holes in her pillows.

    Jon-Very fine video, well done as usual. I had some of these many years ago, shot them in my 6" M28 S&W Highway Patrolman in the garage. I used an old hollow core door for a backstop and the plasttic bullets penetrated the first side of the door! But they shot fairly well and I never got back to them - going to the range with live ammo was more fun. Now, with the shortages, it's time to get some more of these and revisit - Thanks again...

    I used to do something like this with .38 spl. I'd take a case, put a primer in it, and load it with one of those foam ear plugs. Worked great

    Used these back in the seventies. Not so much now. The one place I still use them is with my break top hinge frame revolvers.and my Colt Lightning. These cartridges work in either .38 S&W type revolvers and revolvers chambered for .38 long Colt.

    Thanks, just looking for alternatives to hard to find ammo. Had these for years, and brought them out of storage for a second look.

    Yeah those are cool brother. Used to shoot the plastic bullets all the time when I had my 38 It was in the late 80s and those bullets you pushed into regular brass cases.

    used these in brass without plastic case, (i hand load) 38 can be use in 9mm. 45 in 45 acp, you have to cycle the weapon manually, provides even more training. I've used these alot when I use to shoot competition. loads of fun.

    so i inherited my dads VAST gun collection and after a couple years i finally decided to look thru this old chest he had full of reloading stuff and misc gun crap. stumbled across this box full of these things. figured that’s what these were! very excited to try these out in the garage. also in this wooden chest was everything i need to reload😂. i had just ordered a 4 piece lee 9mm die set cause i wanna start reloading. knew i should’ve looked in here cause i found thousands of primers for every size they make, thousands of bullets for 9mm, .38 spl, .357, and 44 mag. and thousands of brass for each including the press, and dies for all those calibers, and some rifle dies. had no damn idea😂😮

      oh and this chest, weighs hundreds of lbs😂. i had to move it ONCE! now i know why it was sooo heavy. all that lead that was in the bottom of it😊

      +Jon with no h if you place fired case on a but then tap out spent primer it makes it easy but would these shells be good for rat shooting?

    I think these can also be used in brass 38 cases and 9mm brass too. Never tried it myself. Perhaps I will experiment more. Thanks for watching. Jon

    that is pretty darn cool. never heard of those before. should put a bucket under the target to catch the plastic bullets. I have seen live ammo with plastic cores before 7.2x39mm. they are training rounds but loaded just like other rounds. trust me they are deadly for those kinds. but what you have here is pretty darn cool. thanks for the video. by the way what did you do to your thumb. i remember a car battery slamming on mine causing that damage. had to use a hot knife on it. hurt like hell

  • @jonwithnoh7
    @jonwithnoh7  11 років тому

    It's perfect training for recoil shy shooters. They do sting like heck if you get hit by a ricochet, so use a suitable backstop. Thanks for watching. Jon

    I do not think they have them in 40, but I understand you can use the 38 in a 9mm brass case, There also is a 45 that can be used in 45acp and I imagine 45lc brass too.

    I bought a box to shoot out of my S&W 38 airweight. I have tried CCI and Remington large pistol primers, neither brand will discharge in this gun. Very disappointed.

    Lots of indoor fun, outdoors too, but you loose more projectiles.

  • @jonwithnoh7

    I had forgotten about them till the ammo shortage, and was looking for alternatives. Finding the primers may be problematic, but easier to find than ammo.

    Powder?

  • @jonwithnoh7
    @jonwithnoh7  11 років тому

    That is not it's intended purpose. The plastic projectiles are moving pretty fast. It would hurt pretty bad, may break skin. I would guess it hurts much like getting hit with a paintgun. I do not recommend it.

    I would be careful to make sure you have good ventilation. Some primers have toxic chemicals...not a big deal outside or such but in a small non-vented room, it could be a health issue.

      I know this was 4 years ago, but I wouldn't recommend it. People have even been killed by blanks before (Bruce Lee's son) so I would NOT recommend it. Better safe than sitting in prison for homicide.
