How To Smoke Ribs On A Wood Pellet Grill | Z Grill's Wood Pellet Grill | Best Rib Recipe!

  • Today I am testing to see what rack of ribs I like best! We are cooking baby backs and some spare ribs on the Z Grills 700E wood pellet grill! This rib recipe is delicious! You will find this method used in most barbecue competitions and is a must-try for ribs! Even my guest Lionel Messi loved these ribs!
    DIRECTIONS:
    2-2-1 method
    1. Prep your ribs. Remove the membrane which is a thick plastic-like skin over the boney part of the ribs. removing this allows the smoke to penetrate the meat better.
    2. Apply seasoning. Rub the ribs with some peanut oil then apply an all-purpose seasoning blend as a base which consisted of salt, pepper, and garlic. Then hit them with a bbq rub. I used a Kansas city-style rub which you can find here: keviniscooking.com/wprm_print...
    3. Place your ribs onto your smoker bone side down and smoke for 2 hours at 235F. Every 45-1hr sprints them with an apple cider vinegar water mix to maintain moisture.
    4. After 2 hours remove ribs from the smoker. Place ribs on some tin foil and apply some honey butter and brown sugar to the top first. Flip ribs over and apply more honey butter and brown sugar. Wrap up the ribs with the tinfoil making sure not to puncture the foil. Return ribs to the grill meat side down. Smoke for another 2 hours at 235F.
    5. Once 2hrs is over remove from smoker and check tenderness. When removing from the smoker your ribs should have a nice flex to them so be careful while transferring them. You want to see some good pull back on the bones. If you can pull and wiggle the bones and they seem loose but will not separate you are good to go. If you do not see this you may need to return to grill and cook for a little longer checking periodically.
    6. Once tender, apply your favorite BBQ sauce. Remove the ribs from the tin foil and apply bbq sauce top to bottom. Return ribs to the smoker for 1hr. at 235F or until the bbq sauce has thickened up and become tacky.
    7. Remove ribs from the smoker and let rest for 10-15 minutes.
    8. Slice and enjoy!
    Ribs didn't turn out quite right? Some adjustments can be made as far as time and temp goes. Barbecuing can be a bit of an experiment with each cook. If you do not like something change it next time! Bbq is a challenge and no setup will be the same. Enjoy the process but never give up! Adjustments can be made until you have perfected the art!

    I just got it but I really do love it I was very impressed on how easy it was to put it together and how it maintains the heat however the temperature outside is in its 50's in Portland Oregon the test will be this next winter? But it's no punk it's actually heavy duty metal no complaints and I'm pleased that I don't need to go get wood for my offset smoker and my electric smoker is going into the trash lol.

    Good video. I have a Pitboss pellet grill. Just searching for different recipes. I personally cook for 3 hours on smoke...185-200. Then wrap for 2 hours with butter on the meat side covered with apple juice, then back on with sauce for how ever long it takes. There are a million ways to make ribs, and everyone does it different. That’s what I like. Yours looked fantastic !!!!

    Great job! Those ribs look amazing! So, just for clarification...not 3-2-1, but 2-2-1? Also, you went bone down for 2 hrs, wrapped meat side down 2 hrs, then bone down again for the last hour? I just set 3 racks out of the freezer to give it a go this weekend.

    • @BaumGrillinzBBQ
      @BaumGrillinzBBQ  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you Michael! That’s correct 2-2-1 method. First 2hrs smoked bone down. Next 2hrs wrapped with honey butter meat side down (so the meat will be in the liquid) last hour bone down with sauce. I found this method to work very well! Making me hungry now lol

    Did you have a generator out in that field you cook in to plug it in to, or a really long extension cord? Baby backs have less fat, are more similar to pork loin, or loin chops. Spares are on the side closer to the pork belly and are a little more like bacon. IMHO.

    too bad when you set the grille on a heat setting the smoke really comes to a stop..I have to add pellet tubes for the smokey taste, or put the setting to smoke for a couple hours for more smoke taste.

    Hello, I'm looking into the z grill and it appears to me that it cooks with indirect heat. Basically a Smoker "Oven".... How would a burger or steak come out without using direct heat? I'm so used to charcoal. :-/

    • @BaumGrillinzBBQ
      @BaumGrillinzBBQ  3 роки тому

      Hi Don! You are correct the z grill is a pellet grill so it does indirect cooking. Basically an oven. I cook burgers on mine all the time though as you can really get the temps up. It will not be like a burger over direct heat but it will still be a very good burger. 👍 especially if ya smoke the burger first then turn the heat up. Yum!

      Baum Grillin'z yes, that helps so much. I just received my Z Grill 1000, assembled and fired it up. All tested and ready to cook some ribs tomorrow. Going to do two racks. I’m going to wrap one in foil and one in butcher paper to see the difference. Thanks again for your video and your quick response.

    • @glenn4ster

      Baum Grillin'z both were delicious. There were subtle differences though. The ribs wrapped in foil were more tender. The ribs wrapped in butcher paper had more flavor from the butter sauce I used just prior to wrapping. Could be a function of the paper or perhaps I used more butter sauce. Either way, both delicious. Going to smoke ribs again next weekend along with a pork butt and a brisket. Thanks again for your help and I will look forward to more videos.

    If if you turn your ribs over and cut them you won’t mess up the bark on the front.. or you can stand them up and cut.. will save your bark on the front every time. These would have been better on your Weber btw 😉

      The pellet grill does not provide very much smoke unfortunately. A lot of people use a smoke tube with the pellet grill to achieve more smoke flavor 👍

    butter, honey, brown sugar etc does NOTHING for the ribs. Try using Apple Juice or my personal favorite- BOURBON for the wrapping. It is 1,000 times better than butter and the rest. You're welcome.
