    I just finished my 3 rebuild. I have same car LR RWD but didn’t have to deal with frame rail or airbags. Must have been awesome to find out you got a long range with autopilot. Almost like finding $15000. I’m looking forward to more videos. Good luck.

      Heck yeah man it's been great so far, a little more than anticipated but manageable. Yea wish I could have gotten one without airbags blown that's the greatest cost in the whole repair almost 5k. Yea definitely going through all the "trash" bolts are super cheap though. Finishing up my second video now should post soon.

    Hey man, Great videos. I watched the whole series lol. So I'm 20 years old, little to no mechanical knowledge other than basic DIY stuff like brakes oil and stuff like that. So basically my girlfriends dad bought a salvaged Tesla Model 3, and its just sitting in the driveway. He told me if I can get it up and running its mine to do whatever, I would gladly make an unlisted video or we can video chat so maybe you could at least get me started in the right direction. its not much damage, the front end is kinda ate up but its not too bad. I honestly don't know anything about Teslas but I would hate to shy away from a challenge and a free car. Any advice would be helpful, Thanks and expecting more great content!

    Great video series. Thank you for doing this so others can learn from you. I have a questions if you don't mind. How did you get around the mobile access issue since it was linked to the previous owner? Did you ever find the physical key? If not how much hassle and what did it cost through Tesla to get a key? What were you so concerned about at the beginning of the car booting up where you wanted to turn things off? Was that to kill communication with Tesla mothership? Because you obviously created the Tesla account to get the phone app as well as to be able to purchase parts from Tesla so they were going to find out and black list it most likely anyway. I'm curious if there were other things you did to protect certain stuff or if it was for another reason? And finally, did you have to get the windshield from Tesla? What did it cost? Sorry for all the questions but thank you. Keep up the great work!

    • @TeslaRebuilders
      @TeslaRebuilders  4 роки тому +4

      I was able to transfer ownership of the car a few days of getting car. Using the phone app I could control the car without the key, which previous owner would not send me. It only cost 40$ and is not a problem to get a key for the car, even mobile service can do it. I just didn't want previous owners to get notified of the car being powered on or other notifications and possibly its location. The car will not update GPS location until its been driven a few miles, transporting it showed it still in Maryland. I have a Tesla Account already because I already own a new model 3! I was able to recover the address of owner and contact him but he was a jerk and wanted alot of money for the keys. The windshield is a big cost but through Tesla parts and labor was 950$ very reasonable for what it is and what it takes to change. The windshield is very complex to remove and install, not just cutting glue and stick a new one. Overall the experience was a good one very easy to work on the car, never need to hookup a computer to diagnose anything. Tesla Service Center was Awesome, they helped me along the way with parts and service at the end. They really wanted me to fix the car a few mechanic's there wanted to do the same thing!

      So it's been over two years now and have driven this car over 80k miles for a total of 105k miles on it. Supercharging was disabled but has been turned back on for several times and for months at a time. Have had full updates and full use of autopilot nothing has been unsupported. Didn't have a issue with buying parts and or getting Tesla to service the car. Getting and repairing this car myself was a very good investment. I have learned so much from fixing it myself and seeing first hand how well built they are. Just unplug them, they are bolted with 1 - 10mm bolt. Nothing can go off as the car only can have 2 deployment events and would need to be powered.

    By the way , did you find the key card 🤔

    • @TeslaRebuilders

      Yes I was able to change the fuse and then the car was able to be put in Drive and moved around. I still don't have a key card but I did gain control through the Tesla app on my phone. You need to log on to your Tesla account and transfer ownership of the car to your account either with a bill of sale or title. And of course don't try to drive the car down the road without it completely restored with airbags but your local Tesla Service Center will have to do the airbags and reset sensors.

      You can also transfer ownership by making a Tesla account at www.tesla.com
      Then fill out the form for transfer of a vehicle to your account with proof of purchase and ID.
      You will need either a bill of sale, title and driver's license. After you input these things and submit you will have to have car on.
      In options you will have to change the name of the car to verify access and ownership.

      You need to ohm the fuse to be sure it's good and needs to be a Tesla part. You may still have a hardware fault not allowing contactors to close. 90% of the parts through Tesla at epc.tesla.com contacted local Tesla Service Center then ordered through email. Some on Ebay, parts that were not needed to be new and lower cost to save on labor. Thanks,
      Casey

      @@TeslaRebuilders How were you able to set up a purchasing account for the parts? Many of them are listed as restricted. Did you set up an account as a body shop or can you just contact the nearest service center and buy them as you own a 3 already? Great stuff by the way.

    • @TeslaRebuilders
      @TeslaRebuilders  4 роки тому +1

      @@stevejarrett6209 you can contact a local service center, go in and get to know the people. Let them know your intentions on rebuilding the car and getting parts. They will probably want you to email a list of parts that you need and they will order them. When they get them in a week or so yo can pay when you pick them up. There is no account that needs to be setup, but you can do that anyway with the car by giving them the Vin. This also cross reference of the correct parts because some differ on options.

I'm only asking because I also just bought a wrecked Tesla Model 3 from Copart I bought it so that I could part it out I also did not get a key and that would have made it easier to get it off the guys trailer just curious how you were able to get the app?

    • @TeslaRebuilders

      @@jeremiahspradling1152 you have to email the documents for proof of ownership, look up on Tesla site ownership transfer and upload a copy of title and or bill of sale. You also have to create a new account before I think for it to be transferred to. If you're parting it out getting access won't help much now. And when you received the car by trailer if a airbag was blown it would not have driven. Took me a week to get control after it arrived and had documents.

    If when you get the car going if you don’t enable the wifi would this stop Tesla from blocking dc fast charging on non Tesla chargers say electrify America.otherwise you may be blocked.

      I'm not sure and wouldn't recommend doing something like that. The car is always connected even if you turn it off or disable service. It's the only way to get location and remote control over the internet.
