Very much deserved, I can't believe people haven't done this shit sooner. Hit them in the wallet and stop purchasing until they understand that we're tired of broken promises and constant releases of games that are nothing more than the latest gacha/micro transaction fiesta. BG3 really doing a great job of opening people's eyes.
You can't review them on their own launcher and no one looks at metacritic etc. This is really the first time a Blizzard game has been able to be rated where it was accessible

Review bombing doesn't matter and doesn't mean anything, it NEVER worked. And guess what? Just because people are leaving negative reviews doesn't mean that they don't play it. You can go through most of the profiles and they will be in game, Overwatch is also on best selling list overtaking CoD, GTA5, Starfield, Remnant 2, TF2 and other golden cows of gaming.
They don't care, all they are going to do is switch over to doing more diablo immortal stuff. Lower budget game, higher monetisation, target mobile audiences.
We're going to see more of that down the road from these grosser developers you'll see.

In retrospective, when you compare what was shown at the OW2 announcement and what those 3 missions offer, you may think they never intended to deliver the PVE mode because there is nothing new to those missions lorewise, what did they do for all those years ?
It feels more and more like a scam from the get go.
By the way, they knew the mode was cancelled before all the announcements featuring it, they just never said anything about it until that single livestream *after* game launched with all the hype.
If this isn't a scammy tactic then I dunno what else.

Because from what I could tell that was when Jeff Kaplain was still involved and i'm pretty sure he left after all that because of them planning to do what they did to OW2. I still think the ideas of what they wanted to do with OW2 was real and during it's announcement they thought they could still do it as the had all the bones in the games infrastructure to now do it. I just don't think Bobby Kotick and his hyenas gave a fuck about that vision so Jeff left over it and then the entire games PvE suffered.

The fact that they tried making a direct sequel to a multiplayer only game told me right away that they were just doing it for the money. If they only wanted to update the pvp and add pve missions they could just as well have made an expansion update for the first game. It was a sleazy move from the start, nothing else.
I occasionally talk to one of the map and environment designers who's been working on the game since about 2018. While he's under a pretty strict NDA and can't talk about any specifics, his attitude towards work went from fantastic to outright miserable beginning in mid 2020. After hearing the announcement about cancelling PvE, I can only think that they canned /severely downshifted PvE development well over 2 years ago.
From game of the year in 2016 to this, imagine how bad Blizzard has become in mere 7 years.
And it didn't even deserve the GOTY that year.

As someone who paid for Overwatch 1 at launch I feel scammed, introducing battlepass to unlock new heroes where swapping heroes mid match is a FUNDAMENTAL mechanic for the game. All in all people were coping its fine to take away value from OW1 because everyone was promised this awesome PvE campaign that was scratched : D. Ofc everyone that ever supported the game is fucking furious, billzard management department could shake hands with Netflix writer's on somehow fucking up guaranteed success

Overwatch 2 was the biggest pile of the shit of the last 5 years. Getting rid of loot boxes made grinding the game completely pointless, you level up, get nothing, repeat. Go make sure to buy skins in the store for $35 though
They also took away non-monetized long-term progression. Boarders were the only thing left, and they stopped making new boarders and didn't carry on into ow2. Now, they just released hero progression, which reset everyone to level 1. What a waste of time and effort.

Deserved. For far too long now Blizzard has disregarded players feelings/wants over greed. The community has clearly hit its breaking point. To be honest I'm surprised it has taken this long. I abandoned Blizzard years ago. I'm happy to see others doing the same.
Fans probably "hit the breaking point" years ago, this is just the first time that we can show our collective outrage against Blizzard's games on a non-Blizzard launcher.

Blizzard is one of the few companies that can make Loot Boxes seem like a customer friendly practice.
Companies will say that this is unfair and unwarranted but it's one of the few effective ways to show them a community's dissatisfaction for a game. A game on steam with overwhelmingly negative reviews doesn't look very attractive to new players, and that hurts their bottom line. So more power to the community for doing this, completely deserved.

As a Overwatch player who stuck around since Beta its wholeheartedly earned. They lied to the playerbase for 4 years, promising a game mode rivaling a completely new game, only to release 1,5 hours of gameplay which was ALREADY DEVELOPED in 2019 and slap a $15 price tag on it. Wow. So weird the players hate their guts. I cant imagine what brought this about,
They showed us what they were working on.. they never "promised". Expect them to never announce anything ever again until it is basically ready to release the next day. The lesson I'm sure they've learned is you share something too much in advance and people now feel they are owed what they "were promised". They had development issues, we all saw the headlines.. it's not like they didn't release it out of spite..

The base gameplay is really good, but all the negativity is 100% deserved for the way they treat us as players. All the lies, deceit, bullshit microtransations. Then on top of all that the terrible working environment for the common worker there.

I was so in love with OW on release =(
The first Halloween and Christmas events were something special
I used to main Wrecking Ball in OW1 before roll lock (this is because he was so much fun to play he was literally the only reason I was still playing such a repetitive game), and I was appreciated for playing a tank. Then when roll lock occurred no one appreciated me being a tank because it was simply guaranteed, so they wanted a main / shield tank so I would get berated for not playing a character I didn't want to play. Then they nerfed his grappling hook so it would detach after a few seconds, and not only that, there is no audio cue to warn you when it would happen. Then OW2 they capped the team to1 tank, which makes it harder for me to select Wrecking Ball, and if even if I do select him I'd be "throwing" by not picking a main tank. There is zero point in playing the game anymore because for me the only thing fun about it is Wrecking Ball, and wrecking ball is absolutely wrecked now. Any other character and why would I play OW over another FPS like Apex legends?
Funny part about all of this is Blizzard will advertise all the people who downloaded the game to Not Recommend it as sudden massive playerbase growth to their investors, convieniently leaving out that all those players only left the title screen up for 30 mins just so they could post a review.

PvE would've been refreshing, since you can create multitudes of builds for a single-character, with its skilltrees. But that will not happen, since it no longer exists. Blizzard poorly handled this IP.
Im pretty confident that the pve would have been bland as fuck. OW doesn’t need a pve feature. Taking away OW1 and locking heroes away behind a battlepass is the real fucking problem here.

Disgusting how much things have changed. When OW1 was released, I bought it even though it wasn't my kind of game. All that mattered was that it was made by my favorite game company and I wanted to support them. Now, years later, OW2 is free to play and I won't touch it with a ten foot pole.

I am very confident that the PvE Mode would have been pretty boring anyways after 1/2 hours and def not as enjoyable as many made it out to be with its long term progression etc besides the fact that people are mad at blizz not delivering what they promised

Omg it is soooo deserved, Blizzard promised so much and gave us nothing, we had to endure 3 years of no new content in OW1 because Blizz was "hard" at work making this supposedly amazing sequel which would not only had a fully fleshed out story section of the game but the MP would also see some cool improvements as well.
And look what we got, i really hope that when this deal with MS finalizes they just strip down Blizz and rebuild it into something better than it is, its just a dying husk of what it once was.
after seeing how hard larian worked on Baldurs Gate 3 (took me 200 hours to finnish and i bet i could even reach 300 hours if i tried) and this is with nonstop cutscenes and talking with a fight here and there, AND THIS IS ON A GOOD RUN, another 200 hours if i decide to go for an evil run, really an eye opener.

Iv waited for a Warcraft 4, since the small unfinished bits of Warcraft 3 the frozen throne were around.
Blizzard could easily re-employ Jeff Kaplan, finish & release the PvE content within 3 months, and bring back loot boxes instead of the battle passes. This would MASSIVELY change player sentiment and would have people flocking back to the game (myself included).
That's why I hate launchers that don't have review options on it. People will buy the games thinking they look good lol.

Its seriously so sad seeing overwatch in this state, i LOVED the game and how extremely fun it is solo and if you have friends playing it.
I mean the PvP is more than fine. In fact it's better. The PvE and Pro Scene is what they let die.
Yeah the PvP of OW 2 is easily the best out of any multiplayer FPS in my opinion.
@@Zondels No way, the games just a polished turd clone of Paladins. Paladins is better in almost every way shape and form apart from the poorer netcode and the menu bugs.
If I am honest, Overwatch 1 already added more HEROES then they added PLAYABLE MAPS... just for the sole fact you can SELL COSMETICS for heroes but you can't sell anything for maps. But more maps are needed for more FUN, more heroes doesn't add more fun across the board, it just adds another way of having fun with old maps.
Especially since you don't get to actually keep the game to play offline with your* favorite hero.

Also, notable to recognize that this is the first forum the game has gotten since branching out from the blizzard app. This game has been out for years, so tons of sentiment that couldn't find a place outside of twitter or youtube would eventually have flooded something as public as the steam review section of the game.
And after the many controversies it's deserved and about time, this really shouldn't be new to anyone whose been in the community for years.

I high high hgihly suspected the result of OW2 is because tons of garbage HRs and middle managers keeps firing and adding developers in order to keep their positions inside the company. Hence none of developers have long enough time to understand the codebase of the game itself, which results in they wouldn't able to deliver anything after several years. Those middle people drained all the budget.
well, I stopped playing overwatch since the day of ow2 release because it was the same game with slightly better graphic and in exchange there was unreasonable microtransactions for OLD skins and stuff, I didn't like 5v5 neither
so in the end I'm happy that they released it on steam

On OW2's release day, the game was so barebones and barren of new content that it was downright insulting to fans. Several heroes were so buggy that they had to be removed from the game for days/weeks. A good chunk of the maps in OW1 straight up weren't in OW2 for months after release. The ridiculous monetisation and a battle pass that felt like having a second job. Incompetent game balancing and insanely dumb matchmaking.
To be frank, the only thing keeping most of the old OW players going was the promise of PvE (all that time and effort - the years of content drought - had to have gone *somewhere* right?).
But, not only was PvE cancelled, it'd been cancelled *before* the release of OW2 - and Blizzard decided to just not tell the players until over half a year later.
OW2 has gone out of its way to earn its place at the top of that list.
Overwatch as a genre and game is the biggest lost opportunity ever.
They could have built so much more and extensive gameplay, make things actually competative with visible elo and elo loss / gains on wins / losses.
Hiding elo is the worst thing any game can do to a player.
Takes away any motivation to actually play.

Its called Overwatch 2 because they removed maps, loots boxes, free skins, in game currency, 1 team member from each team, old ranking system, in-group indicator while in-match, the level based progression system, Arcade incentives, statistics pre-Season 31 and all cosmetics suffered a massive increase in cost AND canceled PVE. How can u get not get this??? Best update ever!

The whole point of Overwatch 2 was that it was supposed to have a campaign with skill trees and stuff like that, it was the very first thing they talked about when revealing that Overwatch 2 would be a thing. Yet when the game came out it was nowhere to be found and at first they claimed they had to "delay" it only for a few months later to reveal that the campaign was scrapped completely. Which was again the whole point of it being Overwatch 2 and not a 2.0 update for Overwatch. That's not even touching on the horrendously expensive microtransaction and removed features.

I cant play this game anymore, it was the last battlenet game i was playing but i just quit and uninstalled battlenet for the first time since it was launched. Overwatch is not for me, im not sure who the audience is but its certainly not the casual gamer.
PS: i had around 1700 hours in OW 1 and just recently hit 2000.

I gave Overwatch nearly a year of my life in playtime. It does, in fact, deserve it and It's cathartic to watch unfold where blizzard cant hide it

I remember back around 2010-2015 That game was bad and so many people hated it and memed it XD But now, it got positive reviews.
Just imagine the shock on people who loved the game not getting any updates since 2019 and reasoning behind it they are working on the PVE and then no pve so 4 years of nothing but shit.
And by that point everyone knows it was just a rebranding way there was no PVE to begin with.

I’ve been a blizzard fan since Warcraft (before WOW)… they have gone from a company that makes great games to a corporation that has no soul and is ruled by incompetence and greed.
