By far starfield's greatest achievement is the addition of ladders. No joke this is the first bethesda game with ladders that aren't just loading screens
It’s insane, I saw Bethesda fans actually hyped for ladders. They were trying to explain that’s really hard to code ladders, until I told them Minecraft did it on a browser 15 years ago
And ladders animation such slow so loadings still would be better
With the ladders taking about 7 years to traverse.. might've been better to just not.
Having to click to use them is somewhat of a joke to start out with.. and.. well -- you can use your jump pack to leap between floors on your ship. Quite a lot faster.
@@Shiggy_ It's honestly mind boggling how out of touch rabid Bethesda fans are. It's like they have NEVER picked up any other games, since 2008, that weren't Bethesda releases. I like how they excuse the loading screens, but will screech rant about how ambitious Starfield is and how all objects in the game have permanence even when you're on a different planet... Which doesn't make much sense on, why every time you go through a doorway, you have to go through a 2-5 second loading screen. You'd think if every single thing is generated, no matter where you are in the game, that there would be less to no loading screens cause everything is already loaded. 🤔
Lol the ladders, then we'll get vehicles in about fallout 6.
Star field is so ahead of it’s time it went back in time
truly starborn expirience 👍
Ah yes !! A true starfield experience ahah 😂
you'll just have to load to find out
Todd and his crew broke the speed of light barrier, and this is the result. From being rediculed cause he was in the chessclub to winning the nobel prize of physics because of his discovery and proof of faster than light travel by using a 50 year old game engine. What a journey, and what a man. The next elder scrolls game will probably unify quantum mechanics and relativity, or prove the existence of aliens or something.
Yea Bethesda is so talented that they have a development overflow problem
Back in Daggerfall you needed a specific day of the year, in game, to successfully summon a Daedric Prince, otherwise you needed expensive reagents and it could still go horribly wrong.
In Starfield there isn’t even a calendar.
There aren’t even proper maps for intricate navigation throughout cities for eg… HOW CAN YOU NOT HAVE A PROPER MAP IN A SPACE GAME…CMON
@@Giveitaresssstt Probably because Emil Pagliarulo is the lead designer and told his people not to worry about it because modders will do all the work fixing the game.
holy shit you’re right, we have no fucking calendar
Probably because different planets with different rotation/orbital periods and time dilation as you approach the speed of light and distance, but you could also do galactic standard time and also space magic so who cares.

Why doesn't Bethesda just release their tools instead of a game, and let the community build a game from scratch

Savage but true
I'm not sure their engine is that good.
Bethesda had 10 years and their Skyrim money to upgrade their engine, they instead use that time and resources to half-ass Fallout 76.
Meanwhile, an army of fans created OpenMW.

@@radiantveggies9348 yeah, you are the part of the problem.
The funny thing is that reducing the number of loading screen is fully in their power. Skyrim is basically the same as Starfield with that aspect, and a modder removed vast majority of them. It just means they couldn't be bothered with it.
Or that they limited themselves in order to make the game playable on dated hardware. Most of the loading screens seem to be completely cosmetic on Xbox, the loading screen sometimes takes a moment to actually pop up but you can catch a glimpse of the fully loaded and rendered cell that it's supposedly loading before it claims to be loading anything.
@@GremlinSciencesNa, don't give them the benefit of the doubt. They didn't do this to help older systems. They did this because they wanted to use the same engine they've been using for decades. They're just trying to milk it for all it's worth and they need these loading screens to allow it to run properly. All those games shown work on older hardware, too. Cyberpunk is the only game that is going to really TAX a system, even modern systems.
I'm not.@@erikholum4772 The fact of the matter is that every time the plain-black loading screen comes up, the area that's supposed to be loading is _already_ loaded before the screen even comes up on Xbox.
You go look at the system requirements and the PC requirements are low enough that it should be able to run on Xbox One, but even though it's better optimized on Xbox you still need to use cloud gaming to play unless you're on a Series system.
Why is there this discrepancy? Because the PC minimum requirements are the same as what Steam shows most players are still using. They built the game to be playable on those PCs, even though the actual system requirements are much higher.
It helps to artificially lengthen the game. Every bit counts, even slower page transitions between menus and character and skiils

We all know the reason Bethesda doesn't want to give up the creation engine is because no-one would play their games past release if they couldn't mod them.
meh. They did the same thing when skyrim special edition come out
Why not instead of "updating" the current engine and just calling it Creation Engine 2, just make an actual Creation Engine 2 that's better with loading new assets so it doesn't rely on loading screens every few steps.
I mean, they probably could have done a new and more modern engine that could load all of these cells at once and with the same modding capabilities, but why bother right.
@@GoldenLeafsMovies Because that would require a shit tonne of work and money, something they don't want to do when they can just slap in the old trusty and people eat it up.
Because they don't have talent to make a new engine that could do the same
RDR2 is unmatched when it comes to game physics , how far they went into details in this game is insane , for example if you shoot an animal over time the body will rot and if u go to the same place in few ingame days there will be bones on the ground .
That is pretty cool
There will even be scavengers eating the cadaver during that time. Sometimes I wonder how RDR2 was even possible to make. It's arguably still the most next-gen game and it came out 5 years ago. I shudder to think what GTA 6 will be like in terms of detail.
Yep and 100 % it is compared to the rest of the open world RPGs @@amysteriousviewer3772
Well, RDR2 took a shit ton of time to make as well. And in terms of graphics I would say cp2077 is the most next-gen experience one can get right now.@@amysteriousviewer3772
RDR2 was made possible by sacrificing player hard drives to long-forgotten deities.@@amysteriousviewer3772 Everyone seems to have forgotten, but that game required a whopping 250GB of solid-state storage originally.
The thing that really get me about all the loading screens in Starfield is that they're suppose to front load all the assets so nothing else needs to be loaded as long as you stay in the game cell, however, with Starfield you _need_ a SSD specifically because the game is constantly loading assets real time. Like WTF are all the loading screens for if they're not being used to actually load anything?
What even more baffling is that Bethesda already figured this out because they've been using the same game engine for almost two decades and in all of their previous games they figured out what the loading screens were for. How do you use the same game engine for 2 decades then forget how to make it work?
Yeah I noticed that most games I play off my SSD, the light on my SSD doesn't constantly flash, and I think it flashes when it's transferring data back and forth. But when I play starfield, my SSD flashes the whole time. Which means you have to constantly load every single asset in every new map after every loading screen.
I think most of the OG devs left the studio and took their knowledge with them. It's why every new game feels like it's less than what came before. Todd also let Emil talk them into NOT USING GAME DESIGN DOCUMENTS!!!
So no-one knows what's going on, and it shows.
The absolute delusion of Todd Howard calling Stardield a "next-gen PC game" that you "might have to upgrade your PC" for. The guy is either permanently high or he truly lives in a fantasy world.

Technically.. I've had none to very few bugs with the game.. had one of which I remember - got stuck between a table and the ceiling on my ship. Could fix by sitting on a chair (or fast travel, I suppose).
Nothing game breaking, not a single crash, maxed graphics, 5120x1440, no framerate issues.
Game most definitely has issues - such as it being a loading screen simulator, and kind of just being dull overall, not to forget all the bits this video shows.
And not to forget that there doesn't seem to be anywhere where you're not really allowed to go. Don't even have to break into homes.. just walk in and go to wherever in there - NPCs don't mind.
But, least for me.. it just works.
here's the thing. the phrase "it just works" can be interpreted 2 ways. "it just WORKS" or "it JUST works". Todd's cadence was the former, his meaning was the latter.
I'm glad there are some reasonable parts of the internet that can see how average Starfield is - I'm pissed at how many people defend it as an “amazing” game. It is 5/10 and Bethesda should do much better. Finally get a new engine.
Yeah. And let`s talk about game journalists and UA-camrs rated Starfail a 9/10 or a 10/10....
It's an objectively bad game. Opinions don't even come into it. It's literally just bad in many, many ways.
This just shows that its not an issue of greed or laziness. This is what they produce after like 10 years of dev time and a monstrous budget. They simply can't design a game outside this horrible Bethesda ES loop.
That's because they don't want to take risks. If they design something even worse its money down the drain, like this at least they know people will play it. It's not about creating a good game, it's all a money making product.

water in general seems to have been neglected. You can't dive either
There are so much stuff that was in F4, but for some reason isnt in Starfield, and i think its due to 1 thing. Its a rushed and unfinished game. Apparently they had struggles with it even running properly in early 2023, and have spent most of their energy on optimizing it. it runs great on my 1080, so it worked. but the lack of details and loading screns are insane, they didnt even hide the grav drive loading screen.

And I don’t see a lot of people talking about this, but why did they remove the ability to swim underwater? That used to be a normal thing you could in their games, dating back all the way to Oblivion! Buts it’s not here…all the little details that used to be standard in Bethesda titles are just absent. The problem with Starfield is similar to the problems that the original (now classic) GTA series like III, Vice City and San Andreas had - their engine (Renderware) couldn't handle interiors properly, so only part of the map could be loaded at a time, and everything else was loaded as soon as the player entered a special marker, that initiated a teleportation, that took the player to an interior, that was (usually) underground. But even then, Rockstar was clever enough not to use any loading screens, everything was done instantly, and those were the days when people didn't even know about SSDs, because it was still a hard disks era.
Starfield suffers from the same condition, it's just that the interiors are too big in comparison to the buildings, making them unlikely to fit in, and so - instead - you get.... a loading screen, which causes the game to load the data once again. Often without getting rid of the data from the previous locations, so that the amount of memory required increases in relation to the data left in the previous location (which is why sometimes the game has a tragic fps drop, but as soon as it catches up with the loaded data, it starts running smoothly).
The interiors and exteriors and objects in starfied are many orders greater than these other games. The loading screen doesn't need to be there in most cases, for without it it would load like the gta 5 etc.
It is even crazier to think that GTA 4 was _released_ in 2008. They spent years on it.
Which means Bethesda has no excuse to perform so badly in the examples given here, because we’ve had the technology for almost two decades, and they’ve had about a decade to implement and make changes.

Alyx works on Source 2 engine and faces works because they are slightly stylized nad you never see them in full light, so your brain does not focus on details.
If only Bethesda used an actual game engine for once, and hired people that actually knew how to use it.

@@Volfur2251 If you can't recognize that many of the limitations on Starfield boil down to hard limitations set with their engine, there is no saving you.
@@Volfur2251 While I do agree with you on that, it's kinda the only thing fanboys will let people talk about. They get really defensive if you mention that Bethesda is rather lazy when it comes to making games and if you dare to mention how a good majority of the stuff promised to us was revealed to be a lie they will get even madder and say things like "So what? NMS lied and that game is still worse." or my new favorite "I bet you're a CoD fanboy that's upset so go and back to CoD." which is weird and I really don't understand that one at all

But you seem to be an expert, so tell us why that is. I'm listening. I'm sure I'll find the answer to be riveting.
0:07 even in fallout 3 npc's would even react to you shooting near them
I remember playing a Harry Potter game back in the day on the ps2 and it had a loading screen like every 5 steps it was super annoying. I didn't think that would be a problem now especially since even consoles started using an ssd.
I'm pretty sure they're just an annoying cosmetic effect for most players, playing on Series X there are times where the loading screen is late to pop up, and the few frames before it does has always revealed the area to already be fully loaded and rendered, even fully populated.
I imagine they would have made the choice to preserve the pride of PC players so a budget PC didn't seem to play any worse than a console. Or they added it in anticipation of mods taking a few extra moments to load in.
Bethesda is still stuck into the same practices as if it's still early 2000's and with no signs of ever evolving. If you dissect the visual presentation, it's still the same game as morrowind was 20 years ago.
By now, they're on an even worse spot than Ubisoft when it comes to making the exact same game with a different coat of paint. At least Ubisoft release their games faster and can use time as an excuse.
I remember that the PS2 version of "Chamber Of Secrets" actually let you explore the entirety of the Hogwarts Grounds outside during the day both on foot and on your broom. The other versions turned the grounds into nothing more than individual warping hubspots where you literally couldn't free-roam anywhere else. I'd gladly take more load times on the PS2 if it means more seamless freedom.
I love how selective the community is when it comes to bug criticism. Its absolutely forgiven if its a bethesda game because its Bethesda. "Oh this generation has been ruined by Crowbcat" 😂
I’m still waiting for his video.
I don't think it's forgiven it's just expected, I mean even skyrim and fallout still has bugs :P
@@xman5393Even elden ring had game breaking bugs on release. It's the sheer lack of creativity or will to innovate that pisses me off. The game could've been released in 2012 and no one would think it's innovative. It's purely a cashgrab
They're not comparing it with GTA5 because GTA4 was a little bit more realistic and focused on details. There are quite a few things they missed to include again in GTA5 that GTA4 handled better
Starfield would look just as stupid if compared to GTA v. Cyberpunk looked stupid when people compared with V and cyberpunk was way better than starfield
Since starfield came out, i decided it was finally time to buy No Man's sky. Had a blast, explored more than 50 planets and nearly a dozen or more systems of which a lot of them i renamed because nobody had discovered them, and as long as i stay within a system not a single loading screen will disturb your immersion, unless you choose to fast travel with a portal, which is understandable imo. Im 150 hours in and just discovered another galaxy, you can make bases underground, underwater, in the sky, one hell of a freedom game imo. If anything the game would be perfect with the addition of rng loot weapons of different qualities n stats, dungeons and minibosses/bosses.
No Man's Sky literally has 18 quintillion planets.. you have a ways to go before you see them all...LOL
I'm actually surprised that they didn't even show Skyrim for comparison, it was so much better in some other game details too.
The thing really annoys me is how lifeless the wors feels. At first glance there are lots of people walking around but actually everyone is just stuck in one place. Go back to previous generations of elder scrolls games and people acted like people. They had routines and went about their day and went home and to work and some visited other towns. I starfield they just stand in there shop in a fixed position for eternity. I had a quest with an option to steal something but the person never moves so you can sneak in at night or wait for them to be busy and break in.
It’s amazing the double standards when it comes to Bethesda games. 1:55 Cyberpunk was lambasted and rightfully so for stuff like absolutely no water physics. Yet here’s Starfield praised to high heavens
To be fair though both are dookie
RDR 2 was a passion project like no other. We'll probably never see another game with that level of dedication put into it, ever again.
Maybe in the form of GTA 6?
Wait for RDR3, Cyberpunk 2, Witcher 4. Also BG3 (Baldurs Gate 3) is really really good

Can't wait for the modders to add everything those other games have that Starfield doesn't
Whats disappointing is that we probably wont ever see the team tweak this stuff to be better. The modders will do it for them.
If Starfield had a great story with compelling characters and quest lines, I wouldn’t care about the loading screens or the dated physics engine. Nobody plays Fallout: New Vegas for the gameplay or graphics.
So the fact that Bethesda has been chasing this “sixteen times the detail”, “over one-thousand explorable planets”, “dynamic lighting and landscape technology” bullshit for the past 10 years, while anchoring themselves to a fossil of an engine, is why Starfield sucks. Todd Howard wants to be seen as the guy who pushes the bounds of player freedom in games, but he’s terrified of adopting new technology to meet these ambitions.
At this point, a new Bethesda Game Studios release might as well be looked at as another Call of Duty. We know what we’re gonna get with The Elder Scrolls 6 because we already got it with Starfield, Fallout 4 and Skyrim.
We'll get mods for water splashes, for NPCs to react differently when you point a gun at them etc...but I don't think we'll ever get destructible objects :(

8 years developing the game and games from 8 years ago are better in graphics and physics. And you also need a graphics card from within 8 years.

Disappointing that there is no physics on some of the objects like chairs etc. Bethesda actually have highly interactive physics on a good number of items in the game that you can move yourself.
I find the funniest thing to be that in 10 years the modding community will add all other game features to starfield in a neat on click downlad and install click and play mod pack.

The man has a point. Starfield doesn't technically need the attention to detail that those other games had. Mods for GTA4 and Witcher and Cyberpunk are extremely limited in scope.

Starfield is the only Bethesda game that I haven't bought so far, and don't think I ever will. There is absolutely nothing that attracts me to it.
7 years of development for this, not including its conceptualization back in the 90s.
Why make good games when you have a fanbase that will mindlessly buy anything you put out, and a modding base that will win your game awards.
I'm currently playing a 12 yr old MMO where you can knock around and destroy stuff in your base and the open world. This game was developed for the ps3. And somehow you cannot do this in Starfield. Crazy.
What MMO?
This is so funny cause, a ps3 game ( gta4 ),a game that was broken ( cyberpunk ),and a switch game ( zelda ) has better physics and no loading lool
The loading screen is perhaps the most insulting to watch, every single game nowadays nails it down with no loading times and no waiting times. I mean how hard it is to do like resident evil 4 remake did. Just load the geometry of all the areas around the area the player is, then when the area-transitioning door is opened, "unload" the areas that are no longer attached to the previous level and load the next connected areas.
Starfield feels like a devmode game that is still being developed.
