I was fine before watching this video, I was okay with not buying any more books for a while. I haven't got a huge pile of unread books, but I wanted to have two or three left unread before buying new books. Boy...after watching this I had to step away from the computer to prevent any online shopping XD

I really enjoy watching ur videos, especially compared to most booktubers because you read so much and you read all the books you personally love and enjoy! Sad to see how a lot of booktubers are mostly reading sponsored books now and everywhere i just see the same damn books

    • @BookswithEmilyFox
      @BookswithEmilyFox  7 років тому +24

I never mind sponsorships but I think there needs to be a balance. If more than 75% of your books are sponsored then it sucks (especially if you only read a couple books a year!). If it's under 33-50% then I'm okay with it!
It gets old really fast to see only the same books over and over again :)

I really liked this book haul. You have a lot of variety in genre and while some are books that have been seen a lot and are popular with a lot of other booktubers, you then have about half that aren't seen a lot or at all on booktube. These are the kind of book hauls I like and the kind of book hauls I don't skim through. Great haul!

I swear, one of these days I'm going to start The Remnant Chronicles and the Shades of Magic. I have all of them and they sound amazing, but it just hasn't happened yet. Too many books, not enough time. Ugh.

Ryan North's Romeo and/or Juliet is hilarious and fun. You can even use it as a party game and get everyone involved in choosing their adventure. There are pirates and there are ninjas, so many possibilities. And Romeo is a complete dolt, whereas Juliet is bad ass and capable.

I'm reading my first collection of Stephen King short stories right now, Bazaar of Bad Dreams. I don't know if you've read his short stories but they're amazing! I also love his little prologues to the stories that give you insight into how they came to be. Good if you don't have time to read a giant long novel of his but want to read some Stephen King!
ALSO the story in Bazaar I'm reading right now is kind of like the Harry August story only more twisted.

So many amazing books! Book Thief is simply a stunning work of art, it sent me into the abyss of WWII historical fiction. Illuminae I gave three stars on, loved the format and I read it in one night. My problem with it was it's simply too far into YA for my liking. Every time I tried to get Angry Planet is was always sold out! Time to try again!

I read Oryx and Crake and Between the World and Me in various English classes at college. I really enjoyed both of them, especially oryx and crake. Only heads up I'll give about Between the World and Me is that it's not really written in a a typical narrative sense. It's like a beautifully written essay is the best way I can describe it. Another really good nonfiction book I recommend is The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander. Anyway, thanks for the new video, and happy reading!

I read The Stand many years ago and really enjoyed it. My favourite Stephen King books are Rose Madder, The Tommyknockers, IT and Insomia. The Gunslinger is not the best in The Dark Tower series. My personal favourite is book 4 Wizard and Glass I feel reading it that you can read it as a standalone and it was the first I read in the series. I am not very good at telling people about books without giving spoilers so I will let you look them if you haven't already.
I have Truthwitch on my wish list think it sounds very intriguing too but will not be getting to it for a while.
I have read Elantris as well and loved it really want to get to Mistborn at some point.
Robin Hobb is excellent I have recently started a reread except for The Soldier Son trilogy all of her trilogies are set in the same world.

    You like post-apocalypse/science non-fiction?
I might have some recs that might sort of fit in both:
Darwin's Dreampond - Tijs Goldschmidt about evolution of tylapia in lake victoria and it also sort of deals with species extinction.
Spillover - David Quammen about spillover of diseases from animals to humans. It deals with the topic of how pandemic diseases appear and how animals can have them and not necessarily dy (HIV, flues, and more ard discussed in it).

I read the Three Body Problem and it really wasn't the best read for me, but you may find it better depending on some circumstances. Some of the characters aggravated me, and you need a very large and extensive science (specifically physics) background to get the main concepts of the book. The characters and their conflict was overall really good, but I didn't get the book simply because the concepts were too specific for me to understand at my age (I'm 14).

You should read IT by Stephen King -- also The Shining and Dr. Sleep (they are a one and two parter). REally you can't go wrong with Mr. King, he is the best!

Six of crows is amazing first off and I am currently reading Crooked Kingdom and loving it so far. The shadow and Bone series is decent as well. The book thief is amazing I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. I also have brain on fire on my list of want to read. I have so many books currently on the go. I have 6 out from the library right now. And so many in my room that I need to read! Also you would like station eleven by emily st mendel. Also we should always read books that are exciting otherwise whats the point! Great haul lovely!

    'Salems Lot - Stephen King.
It's about a small town where weird happenings begin once a strange man moves into the Marstens house. The Marstens house has a dark history from the last residence who resided there. There is a lot of POV switching, but the main Character is an author named Ben Mears. I can't give much more without spoiling it, but it's a pretty cool book. 400+ pages.
