Really enjoyed Braithwaite and Bronte. Both rolled with gang putting them on the spot, and turned the situation in their favor effortlessly. The only thing Dutch had going for him was the fact Arthur is a time warlock. Without an unstoppable killing machine Dutch would have lost to both of them.
way too cocky and way to full of himself to be a threat for the gang. he could have handled Dutch the same way the mayor handled Arthur but noooo doveva scopare con loro. he is a good villain tho and well written..just as a person, bad.
I just completed a replay and finally realized the blue restaurant with striped awnings by Algernon Wasp’s greenhouse is Commander’s Palace, a fantastic NOLA restaurant in business continuously since the 1800s, where several famous TV chefs started out (the tiniest details of New Orleans architecture are captured as well as the city’s legendary corruption)
yea, theres a corn field gate in an area in New Orleans (saw it in a video where some guy explored the locations where rdr2 had inspiration) and..THAT GATE IS IN THE GAME
Absolutely. If people can't see that Saint Denis is clearly inspired by to or a direct reference to the city on NOLA then they aren't paying attention😂
I still think Bronte always intended to give Jack back, and he treated Jack like a prince because he knew that would sadden and anger the people Jack was going back to, hearing him talk about Bronte as "Papa". He's truly a sick man
I think that because Bronte lived amongst false people who would take any advantange to throw him out of his throne he treated Jack, the only innocent thing that came for his life, like a prince; because he wasn't inside that criminal world and had the kindness and innocence of a kid
I think too that those old fashioned mafiosos had some pretty strong principles about not harming women or children during the course of "business" if they could help it. It just wasn't done.
@@darthdaddy3071 Those were the old school Mafiosi, pre-Lucky Luciano (the ones high on traditional values). The new school Mafiosi, Lucky Luciano-present day, don't give a fuck about anything other than money.
It chuckled me how Arthur first met the mayor in his mansion with his beard looking well-shaped and came a second time with a full fledged Viking beard shortly after. The things Saint Denis offer you...
Not grammatically just not properly done saying it was grammatically incorrect is saying that somwthing is wrong with the structure or punctuation of the sentence.@craigstoner2632
The sheer arrogance of the man, his confidence in his own superiority and his contempt for everybody else, hangs over him like a nauseating cloud. He's so easy to hate, even more so than the game's other villains!
I think Lemieux is based on Pierre Lanoire, mayor of the French city Marseille in the 1860’s. He was corrupt but charismatic and well liked until the mafia that operated in his city were accused of burning down an orphanage which led to so much public outcry he had to resign and go into exile, being replaced by his former assistant Julien Gaiter.
Bronte playing Dutch in front of his face added a ton to both of them. All his life, Dutch mostly robbed dumb, country folks but he couldn't help it once he came into contact with a powerful man from the city who thought himself untouchable
I like that the kid can lead you to a group of other young thugs who tell you where to go but man i’ve never wanted to slap children more in a game than that cutscene
Dutch is right though. He does possess something Bronte never would or even could understand. Micah Bell aside, his men are 150% loyal to him. He's much more a "king" in the romanticized sense of the word, than Bronte ever managed to be. No one was loyal to Bronte, they were loyal to their wallets and others feared him.
I think we can surmise that the State of Lemoyne was purchased by the United States from the French Republic in the very early 1800's (the Louisiana Purchase occurred in 1803). The city of Saint Denis still has a large French ex-pat population. On their first playthrough did anyone else try to draw their weapons to kill the guy who stole our bag?
@@noobie1890 swing and a miss. Sumise is the word you are looking for. You were correct in pointing out that an error had occurred. It was just a spelling error, not poor word choice.
Funniest moment to me when you tell Dutch you got robbed, he was ready to put a bullet in the person’s head. When Arthur said it was children, Dutch stopped being angry.
No he wasn't lol He could have used him for a good paycheck which would have made him last longer and would have helped him achieve what he wanted (even though he would have eventually lost anyways)
@@Nizzumnuts dude, there was nothing more they could have done after kidnapping him and killing his guards, keeping him alive would have got them screwed over worse than they already was
Yeah I never understood why the gang helped you kill a small army guarding the house and kidnap Bronte, but got all offended when Dutch fed him to a gator, especially John considering bronte held his son for ransom, and set up Arthur, Dutch, and Lenny at the train station. Dude had it coming
I just want to take a moment to appreciate that he realized that 90% of people would check Discord as soon as they heard that noise so he did us a solid and told us it was in the video
Being from Louisiana born and raised, exploring Saint Denis was really cool as though its not an exact recreation its obvious its based on New Orleans so it was kinda like a blast to the past of a really cool place.
I know! The sheriff of Valentine shot a guy to death for pulling a knife on me during a fist fight, but I've never made it out of San Denis without a bounty.
@@dahken417 yes in valentine it’s the exact opposite, I remember the sheriff there shot a gunsmith for defending himself because I was robbing his store
Saint Denis really feels like a bad city even to this day. Saint Denis has a physical taste, smell, and feel that you can feel through the screen. The sounds are garbled through the cranking of industrial gears, the cries of pain, the corruption. While Saint Denis seems at first glance like a world wonder in an old society, the truth is that for the average person, the pay off isn't worth anything. You lose everything in Saint Denis if you're not the exploiter of the people. Rockstar Games did an AMAZING job with making Saint Denis a supposed paradise, but a smog storm in person.
This is why i think red dead 3 should take us back to the gold rush era with different characters but similar themes. Going west to find out that the hauls are shit, the leads are dry, and now they're all getting robbed and poor.
@breannathompson9094 A tail end Gold Rush Red Dead would be amazing, esp since the decay and decline are huge themes in the series. Would love to see a gold rush Red Dead take place in Cali, since the state owes its success and growth to the rush and has a rich history surrounding it. The Mojave and Death Valley are perfect for a Wild West setting too.
Fun Facts: Angelo Bronte is acted by the same guy that played Boozer in Days Gone. Also, you can go to New Austin during the graverobbing mission. John follows you there and back, and you can catch a Tiger-Striped Mustang!
These are always so well done. You really have a talent for storytelling. And I know I've probably said it a thousand times before in the comments but genuinely, keep up the great work 👊🏿. As many times as I've played this game, I can consume these breakdowns/analysis's endlessly and still find myself learning something new or thanks to your videos picking up on maybe details I'd missed.
What i find interesting through all of this is how many people see right through Dutch and his rhetoric except for the people in the gang. The Grays and Baithewaits manipulated him into attacking their rivals, Bronte, who was too powerful to care about Dutch's posturing, saw Dutch as a kindred spirit, but not in a positive way. That imo is the significance of the Dutch killing Bronte scene. Bronte figured Dutch was doing what Bronte did and bought the loyalty of his men, keeping them in line with money. And when his offer to pay the gang more than double what he thought dutch does was met with stone silence, he realized Dutch was far more dangerous than he could have anticipated, because he kept his tools in line with faith and you can't buy that out. Fantastic story telling bits
The best way to describe corruption in these games, other than complex, is with the line "It's so much bigger than you could ever imagine, it's the whole system" said by DA Gil Colson in "The Batman".
11:44 if you watch the guy Dutch talks too, you can see him flick his hand out from under his chin. This is the Italian equivalent of flipping somebody off, and a detail that I absolutely love
Great video! I feel like a video dedicated to the Van Horn Trading Post would be interesting because of how completely lawless the town is, and also how unnecessarily aggressive it’s residents are. I wonder how it came to be that way.
7:05: The reason that Bronte has so many armed guards (and why he's specifically noted as being 'Italian') is because of the real-life history of Late 19th - Early 20th Century New Orleans (which Saint Denis is based off of; Lemoyne being a thinly veiled parallel to Louisiana, my home state). More specifically, it's based on the criminal history of New Orleans, which at the time was mostly ruled over by La Cosa Nostra, or "the Black Hand" in English, which was a kind of precursor to the modern-day Mafia and the Crime Families. They got their name from their calling card which they would put on a piece of paper they mailed to the target of their attentions or would paint onto the sides of buildings they were going to target... a black handprint, meaning that they were 'Marked for Death/ Harassment.' They often used brutal scare tactics of burning down properties belonging to folks that wouldn't pay their 'Protection' Fee, of mutilating and disfiguring those that had either publicly or unintentionally stood in their way leaving them in a state of agony but not letting them die before showing others what they were willing to do to anybody that opposed them, kidnapping and ransoming children or wives to extort money from desperate family members who didn't want to see their loved ones hurt, and other cruel, exploitative acts to assert dominance over the average citizen and to intimidate those law-enforcement officers who wouldn't play ball and become dirty cops in their employ, by showing them how far they were willing to go. In fact, there's some suspicion that the actual serial killer involved in the mysterious 'Axman Murders' of the early 1910s was actually a La Cosa Nostra hitmen sent to assassinate people for either refusing to work with or pay expected fees to the organization. The main crux of the arguments was that one of the main suspects at the time was a known associate of la Cosa Nostra, as well as most of the victims being either Americans of Italian descent or Italian immigrants.
I knew of the black hand but I'd never heard them being tied to the Ax murders. Makes some sense. Wasn't there a thing where houses that played a certain music would be spared? Basically saying they would cooperate.
That mission reminded me of one of the first mission of gta vice city, when you go to a party in a yacht and are introduced to most of the characters that you will make missions for.
While playing this game , I became torn on whether to think Dutch was actually a storm for good. Yes, he put his gang in danger, but most of the time, they are getting rid of worse men.
I was loyal till the end to dutch on my first playtrough, i always wanted to see the good on his actions either to the gang or to the world, but there was a moment i had enough and i coulndt continue to search for the good when there was none
Anyone that has ever played RDR 1 or even watched playthrough videos on UA-cam knows that Dutch is an absolute POS at least by 1911, He doesn't show those traits at least in the beginning of RDR 2 but towards the end of the game we get sense of the Dutch Van Der Linde that we meet in the first game. While I do think the events of RDR 2 drove him further into madness I believe he was always a bit of a silver tongued schyster who was always able to use other people for his own gain. Hosea tempered him and once he was gone Dutch had nothing holding him back.
I never really picked up on it specifically while playing but it’s very interesting how nearly every villain of RDR2 is a personification of one of Dutch’s masks without the other to hide behind. Colm is his straight up outlaw mask robbing and killing for the fun of it without the fancy self assured idealist mask to cover it. Brontë is his idealist mask who speaks like he’s smarter than he is and thinks he’s bullet proof even with a gun in his face, and Cornwall is Dutch’s ideal life, he’s a rich man with so many avenues of money he can just sit around and muse on random things
Best RDR2 content on the internet. Always in depth, informative, entertaining. The best part is it’s obvious you love the game as much as we do. Unlike some other clickbait creators on UA-cam who seem like they’ve never even played the whole story coughMrBossftwcough

I wish we got more missions in Saint Denis like more robberies or making events of some sort go wrong for Bronté or see the gang explore the city and get get used to high society, maybe a companion when doing Henri Lemieux dirty work?? More characters to work with? Rival businesses? Targets for the Van der linde gang, like someone who knows who they are and threaten to send Milton, so they silence them. Idk R* should’ve expanded the potential of somewhere as huge like Saint Denis,

Great mini-doc. I gotta go back and play RDR2 again. I have been inspired now. Its such a good game. So immersive, I forget I am playing a game. Its so immersive and believable, like taking part in the lives and times of the gang. RDR2 is next-level stuff that any other open world game can not be compared to. Even GTA5 does not have the writing immersive quality that RDR2 has. It never feels like a list of chores or redundant gameplay. The 'grind' is blended with the world and the story so well. Its the best Western movie ever made, and we all get to be the lead role.
If you realized all this after the 5 years this game was out you haven't been playing it right lol. I been playing since 2019 and I knew since I was about 2 hours into my first ever play thru exactly what this game is and how immersive it is
I always wished there was a side quest series that took place in St. Denis where you’re hired by some private investigator to help him investigate some series of murders or other crime that culminated in you taking down a corrupt politician or gang leader. I like how Bronte says “I’ll pretend to know what that means”. The idea of “Criminals with Virtue” that Dutch represents is just incomprehensible to his forward looking criminality
I love every interaction the gang has with Bronte. There's always this unspoken tension in the air, and most of it is just communicated through eyes. The looks Dutch and Arthur give Bronte, the forced smiles, the carefully controlled tone of voice when they speak to him, it's so well acted. And of course the final confrontation where all of Dutch's suppressed anger finally erupts as he loses his cool for the first time and drowns Bronte, while Arthur and John just stand there speechless, that scene gives me goosebumps. All the actors did a phenomenal job. And so did the devs of course, capturing these amazing performances, designing the scene, the lighting, all the cinematic camera work. This game is an absolute masterpiece of cinematography, certainly better than most Holywood movies today.

Bronte is such a good villain. Seeing him power-play over Dutch is wild. Thanks for the great content as always!
I wish they would have kept him around a bit longer
Really enjoyed Braithwaite and Bronte. Both rolled with gang putting them on the spot, and turned the situation in their favor effortlessly. The only thing Dutch had going for him was the fact Arthur is a time warlock. Without an unstoppable killing machine Dutch would have lost to both of them.
way too cocky and way to full of himself to be a threat for the gang. he could have handled Dutch the same way the mayor handled Arthur but noooo doveva scopare con loro. he is a good villain tho and well written..just as a person, bad.
I did wish we had more missions with the beau thwarts and bronte
honestly wasn’t that surprising considering how careless and naive dutch was, considering he got set up the first mission brontë gave them
I just completed a replay and finally realized the blue restaurant with striped awnings by Algernon Wasp’s greenhouse is Commander’s Palace, a fantastic NOLA restaurant in business continuously since the 1800s, where several famous TV chefs started out (the tiniest details of New Orleans architecture are captured as well as the city’s legendary corruption)
yea, theres a corn field gate in an area in New Orleans (saw it in a video where some guy explored the locations where rdr2 had inspiration) and..THAT GATE IS IN THE GAME
woah thats so cool
Bronte actually has a soft spot for kids, he helps orphan children at times.
@@zacharyriley4561 a repulsive maggot nonetheless.
I think too that those old fashioned mafiosos had some pretty strong principles about not harming women or children during the course of "business" if they could help it. It just wasn't done.

Your first sentence is grammatically incorrect. I assume you meant, "it tickled me...". That works, grammatically.
Or, "I chuckled when Arthur....."

Hearing how Bronte talks to the characters, it reminds me that feeding him to the alligator was justified.
Especially calling them dirty and stinky.
@@Whocares158"stinking like sh*t" were his actual words
And Bronte ended up being Dutch's better. In many ways, Bronte is Dutch if he figured out civilization.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the quality of content he creates.
The best, he’s just the best. I’ve been following him for like pre pandemic with 3 days and watched every vid since then!!🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Indeed. Truly giving us the best possible content he can. A true legend!

Shut up
I like that the kid can lead you to a group of other young thugs who tell you where to go but man i’ve never wanted to slap children more in a game than that cutscene
Same
Dutch is right though. He does possess something Bronte never would or even could understand. Micah Bell aside, his men are 150% loyal to him. He's much more a "king" in the romanticized sense of the word, than Bronte ever managed to be. No one was loyal to Bronte, they were loyal to their wallets and others feared him.
Bronte is disgustingly evil. You could see Arthur noticing it when Dutch and Bronte were talking on the balcony
Nothing in his heart but confidence in himself and contempt for all others, truly a grade-A psychopath. A great easy-to-hate villain!

Funniest moment to me when you tell Dutch you got robbed, he was ready to put a bullet in the person’s head. When Arthur said it was children, Dutch stopped being angry.
Dutch was so right when he fed Bronte to gators, it was also hilarious.
No he wasn't lol

Always love to hear interesting stuff about the bustling city of Sandy Knee
You can still fish out that severed arm if you spare Jean Marc. Arthur says something like, "Jeeze, someone wanted you to disappear."
06:43 when asked who he is, I would have LOVED to hear Dutch say: "Names are for friends, so I don't NEED one!" as he pulls the guy into the gate!
That's what I think is amazing about Dutch.
Call each gang member by name and they will be loyal to you.
Not to mention how he raised few of them.
😊❤🖤
The best way to describe corruption in these games, other than complex, is with the line "It's so much bigger than you could ever imagine, it's the whole system" said by DA Gil Colson in "The Batman".
You could say alot of things about Bronte but he was right on the money with Dutch and his personality
Takes one to know one lol
Loving these detailed insights into RDR Stuff really like these types of videos. Keep it up man
11:44 if you watch the guy Dutch talks too, you can see him flick his hand out from under his chin. This is the Italian equivalent of flipping somebody off, and a detail that I absolutely love
"You boys found my Pappy's watch yet" has gotta be one of the best lines in the series
Another damn Fizhy lore video, thank you for that; it's always a good listen.
I always loved the Bronte section. There's just something about the dynamic of the past vs the future of American organized crime.
Great video! I feel like a video dedicated to the Van Horn Trading Post would be interesting because of how completely lawless the town is, and also how unnecessarily aggressive it’s residents are. I wonder how it came to be that way.
I love how the trolley car magically goes really fast all of a sudden none of the other ones go that fast
Loving these new 40 minute or so video essays on big topics of rdr2 lore. Keep up the great work!
5:15 I always loved how Arthur says "give my thangs back :("
7:05: The reason that Bronte has so many armed guards (and why he's specifically noted as being 'Italian') is because of the real-life history of Late 19th - Early 20th Century New Orleans (which Saint Denis is based off of; Lemoyne being a thinly veiled parallel to Louisiana, my home state).
More specifically, it's based on the criminal history of New Orleans, which at the time was mostly ruled over by La Cosa Nostra, or "the Black Hand" in English, which was a kind of precursor to the modern-day Mafia and the Crime Families. They got their name from their calling card which they would put on a piece of paper they mailed to the target of their attentions or would paint onto the sides of buildings they were going to target... a black handprint, meaning that they were 'Marked for Death/ Harassment.'
They often used brutal scare tactics of burning down properties belonging to folks that wouldn't pay their 'Protection' Fee, of mutilating and disfiguring those that had either publicly or unintentionally stood in their way leaving them in a state of agony but not letting them die before showing others what they were willing to do to anybody that opposed them, kidnapping and ransoming children or wives to extort money from desperate family members who didn't want to see their loved ones hurt, and other cruel, exploitative acts to assert dominance over the average citizen and to intimidate those law-enforcement officers who wouldn't play ball and become dirty cops in their employ, by showing them how far they were willing to go.
Honestly love this content

Best rdr2 history channel.
