Cornwall is one of the more interesting characters in the game, not as a character in and of himself, but in terms of what he represents. Cornwall is, in many ways, the personification of 1899 America; Industrious, confident, successful but also callous, cruel and prideful. What he is for certain is the personification of everything Dutch despises and aspires to; wealth, power, success, legions at his command and the capital to make his visions a reality. That hatred and envy is what drives Dutch to rob his train in the first place. The actual bonds are a third rate goal, slighting Colm O’Driscoll is a second. What actually drives Dutch to ignore Hosea’s pleas to silently keep moving west is the idea that he can take from the man who has everything and have him be none the wiser. And that decision is what damns them all, among Dutch’s others. Like Brontë, Cornwall is a foil to Dutch as his mirror, and his equal. Cornwall is every bit as arrogant, prideful and vengeful as Van Der Linde himself so he dispatches the Pinkertons after them, not because this one train was any great loss but because the insult to his standing and honour is something he cannot abide. Despite not appearing in much of the game, Cornwall looms over the story as a constant threat being a patron of Milton to ensure the agent can enact his justice on Dutch so that Cornwall can get his revenge. Again, the metaphor for America comes into play; the alliance between the state and titans of industry bringing an inescapable sense of law to a land that was previously considered wild and untouchable by taxmen and lawmen. This also ties into Arthur as he can no longer run from his own sins and has to accept that time is over, but I digress. The point is that Cornwall exists as a manifestation of this era of American industry, the thing Dutch despises but also the thing that he is helpless to stop. Both men are presented with the chance to let it go; Dutch could have let the train chug along and Cornwall could have accepted the meagre loss given the depths of his fortunes. But because of their equal pride, both men were committed to see the destruction of the other, even if in doing so, all they did was ensure each other’s own ruin instead.
It's sad to think that if Dutch had let the O'Driscoll's rob the train, Cornwall would have gone after Colm instead. The Van Der Linde Gang could have escaped in all that confusion. Even in Chapter 6 when everything was going to shit, if Dutch had really listened to the conversation between Agents Milton and Ross and Cornwall, he was planning on cutting funding for them anyway and if Dutch hadn't killed Cornwall, the Pinkertons would abandon their pursuit of the gang and what was left of the Van Der Linde Gang could have escaped.
@ It’s even sadder to think that it wouldn’t matter at all in the long run. Dutch’s personality is just too prone to self-destruction to avert for long, the opening to the game being them on the run from one of Dutch’s disasters when Hosea and Arthur apparently had a much safer scam going on. And that cycle would just keep repeating. They could have had a safe spot being sponsored by the Grays in Rhodes but could Dutch help himself? Nope, he tried to use both families and ended up getting Sean killed. Saint Denis is more complicated because the Pinkertons were only following them due to Blackwater and Cornwall but it still seems likely that heist would have ended in disaster too. Eventually, even in Tahiti, Dutch would have been unable to help himself and caused a needless tragedy because he thought he was smarter than everyone else. That’s the true tragedy of RDR2, so many technical ways the story could have been improved but the sobering reality that so long as Dutch was incapable of fighting his own nature, it was always going to end up like that one way or another.
@ Absolutely! Dutch’s pride was a big factor in everything going wrong. Even in Saint Denis, if they had done what Brontë had wanted them to do, Brontë himself would have never allowed the Pinkertons in Saint Denis due to the fear of losing an important asset and likewise, the Pinkertons would not want to go to Saint Denis due to the fear of pissing Brontë off. Dutch’s ego, pride, and inability to live and let live costed him everything. It truly is a masterpiece of a game as it shows how human nature can be the end of us all and it also shows that no matter how smart or strong you think you are, there will always be a bigger, badder bully to put you in your place.
The problems with most people who have ever lived on earth is that the best things about us is usually simultaneously the worst part of us. And we are constantly tested in various ways throughout our lives. The characters in Rdr2 all show a bit of this common trait.

RDR2 and RDR1 now on Steam too and there are many new players (on PC) in the game including me (over 65 yo). I think we need these kind of excellent contents to understand how great is this game.
I can't tell you how much I enjoy these red dead videos, I got hooked in when I first came across your night folk video. These gloomy london nights don't seem all that bad when I get to sit back, relax and watch your videos 😊
Have we ever considered Bill a potential rat. I've noticed around came he will go to the lock box and if you go after and check the ledger he usually doesn't actually leave anything. But today I found he gave a poor armadillo skin. And it made me think. They only spawn in new Austin. How can bill get into new Austin? Aren't they all wanted dead or alive there?
You mentioned the hunting trip with Charles and how his people are “unnamed.” I can say with confidence that Charles is a descendant of 1 of 6 native tribes: Lakota/sioux, Cheyanne, Arapaho, Blackfeet, crow, or Comanche. All 6 tribes have relatively close proximity to the in game locations. Now there isn’t anything that I can see that would distinguish him from one tribe over another, but perhaps a closer look is in order Edit: after looking at a map showing the rdr2 map imposed on the current us map, I’d say that Charles is likely descended from either the Comanche, or the Arapaho, or Blackfeet, although that last one is unlikely due to how far north the tribe lived
one thing ive never understood: when dutch says “you give me this ship, 10k dollars, and safe passage out of here, ill let you live” cornwall AND ALL OF HIS GUARDS let their guard down to laugh, as if the very dangerous wanted criminal and outlaw who has a personal vendetta didn’t just threaten to kill him. the guards literally are just surprised pikachu when he shoots cornwall, like HOW DID YOU EXPECT THAT TO GO?
His death always felt the most anticlimactic. Milton and Colm are up there too, Cornwalls presence was felt in literally every single chapter, and he was this big, bad rich guy with his own militia and a lot of power but then he just gets shot in the chest once in the middle of a conversation and then that’s the end of it, you’d think they’d at least have to chase him down or something, make it intense, something of a boss fight maybe, still was a cool scene though and the devs probably wanted it to feel semi anticlimactic for reasons
I feel like that tone is purposely there. Like yes we’re killing all the main antagonist but it won’t save the gang while they’re going down the path of destruction.
It kinda Amplifies death itself, someone was there and their presence felt, Then suddenly not, it's just a empty hole left. And every death in rdr2 is like that, just gone, as anticlimactic as it is.
I think the reason it's so anticlimactic (especially compared to other deaths) is because you're not supposed to be thinking "Wow it's great Cornwall is dead" you're supposed to feel like Arthur, thinking "Good lord Dutch has gone insane," if his death was more satisfying then it'd be easier to fall into Dutch's headspace
I dont think I've ever seen this being mentioned, but you write really well and you have an outstanding capability for storytelling. I find myself delighted at the way you introduce, debate and further conclude your rationale throughout your videos, and the way you manage to keep it entertaining and informing

11:05 the evil effects of education on lessar intellects this reminded me of something george Carlin said in one of his stand up routines. "they want obedient workers, people just smart enough to run the machines and just dumb enough to passively accept their situation" Even the union busting from the pinkertons accurate to amazon does The quote was about the government but u could easily apply this to Cornwall
my god i love your red dead videos. You should just remake every red dead video as a "revisiting so and so" like the revisitng the blackwater massacre video!!!!! Or i guess i can just rewatch them all for a 10th time lol
Remember folks: People actually believe it’s justified to rob Cornwall just because he’s rich and murder his men just because they are trying to stop you from stealing what doesn’t belong to you.
My gal Turbinia being in a Red Dead Redemption 2 video has been a delightful surprise. You're right that she was a one off, but the technology used on her quickly revolutionised ship building. It's a really cool story. IIRC No one was interested in Charles Parson's little boat so he gatecrashed a royal flotilla and nipped around the hulking old ships so quickly and nimbly that it got the king's attention.
I love these longer videos. It gives me a perspective that I might not come across on my own or in typical conversation. The take on the Valentine incident where the destruction on the town was downplayed was eye-opening. It's big business before big business was a thing. Love the video
Before the video even starts it gets a like. A fizhy red dead video is like legitimately hearing Freddie mercury sing bohemian rhapsody, like watching bob ross paint in person. Awe inspiring 👌
An Outlaw will rob you and be open about it, a Business Mogul will rob you blind and then pretend to offer you sympathy when you discover your money/property is gone..
Amazing video as always, but use the red lettering in the thumbnail!!! It’s so distinct and has become my routine in finding your videos in my recommended
The greatest antagonist in RDR2 probably. It's because of him that the Pinkertons are even after the Van Der Linde gang as their main priority. Which is also why the Pinkertons are the gang's main obstacle and enemy throughout the whole game.
I've an idea Fizhy, you can also try doing a 'What if' series for Rdr2 like what if Arthur managed to stayed alive & John was supposed to hunt Arthur in rdr? It can be a very interesting videos/series. Always love your rdr2 documentaries.
I was watching Deadwood the other day and of course I thought of RDR 2 quite a bit, Cornwall is basically the same as George Hearst. Both are very powerful men, both have extensive business interests, both have a lot of hired muscle that they aren't affraid to use, and both are in bed with the Pinkertons. I know there are some differences, for one Hearst doesn't die in Deadwood, wheras Cornwall does in RDR 2 still though there a lot of similiarities between the two.
I picked up the main game pretty recently after only having Online for awhile, and I didn't throw the train driver off the bridge. He hit the ground like three or four metres before the ravine.
Love your content Fizhy, sadly haven't been able to watch one of your vids in a while but glad I start with a Red Dead video again 🤩✨️ Dragon Age would be great content too, it has amazing lore, just ignore their latest game 😂

Im glad that even after six years, people are still making long extensive videos about this game
It’s one of the few games where I feel I got my moneys worth
And they’re still interesting and not just the same recycled bullshit at that
although I do not like the game I think the lore outside of the main story is not lacking in depth at all, even normal people have a story
I can't believe it's BEEN 6 years
6 years..... How
A Red Dead video? After 6 long months? Oh aye.
This video is just perfect timing since i literally haven’t touched rdr 2 for months and I’ve been addicted all over again this past week 😭
I was about to unsub thinking you wouldn’t return. I know that new video ideas are scarce for a 6 year old game but still.

wonderful video fizhy 6 years on your red dead videos is still the best on youtube
Wow, I got lucky. I haven’t thought about your Red Dead stuff in months until just today and I find this when I search up your channel. Love your stuff dude.
YESSS, another climatic video that I will have honor to watch in background, I love those!
Ayyyyeee, a Fizhy RDR2 vid? Get in my eyeballs and earholes.
11:05 the evil effects of education on lessar intellects this reminded me of something george Carlin said in one of his stand up routines. "they want obedient workers, people just smart enough to run the machines and just dumb enough to passively accept their situation"
Even the union busting from the pinkertons accurate to amazon does
The quote was about the government but u could easily apply this to Cornwall
Chef Fizhy has cooked up almost another hour of RDR2 content!!
The King of RDR2 content RETURNS!
Love the red dead videos. I’m on the tail end of my 2nd 100% playthrough and again nose diving into lore videos.
Six years and and you still find stuff on this fizshy im impressed well done sir
12:33 the plonkertons
The plonkertons
On the railroad side mission, don't bring 1 of the bodies back to the foreman. They didn't like it as much as when I brought them the thief hog-tied.
my god i love your red dead videos.
Also i just don’t feel much sympathy for people like Cornwall because you don’t get that rich without serious moral compromises

I literally searched your page Saturday to watch old RDR2 videos… Man I’ve missed the content from Red Dead Redemption 2 🔥🔥
Yippee! Fizhy content! This is always such a joy to my day
Best lecture in a while. Loved it.
I like how he said the blockertons 12:34

Red dead redemption 2 lore video? Is this our christmas gift?
The bison mission is the angriest Charles is all game, I’ll admit I froze up the first time I did that mission
Hi Fizhy
I love your videos so much, I rewatch them because they help me fall asleep every night❤️❤️
Before the video even starts it gets a like. A fizhy red dead video is like legitimately hearing Freddie mercury sing bohemian rhapsody, like watching bob ross paint in person. Awe inspiring 👌
theres A reason why I sub to this man hes a lengend
Please, continue making this series about the characters and their connection to the story through the newspaper articles
I was just wondering about red dead and now you posted for the first time in a long time about it the universe is telling me something
Oh boy, this has absolutely made my night!
I love all the lore you narrate on red dead 2
Really needed a long RDR2 video !
You are a great narrator, people don't say it enough
I just started getting in RDR2 again, this video was perfectly timed
an hour?? fizhy you’re spoiling us!!!
love to see more rdr2 content, keep it up!
I saw a red dead video and instantly checked your channel because I knew you’d have made one
Perfect way to wind down and relax after an 8 hour drive to my parents'
It bothered me when the gang wanted to go to Tahiti and had a chance to steal Cornwalls fancy new boat and didn’t
Fizhy new RDR2 video..tea and biscuits immediately. ☕️🍪
Fun fact coronal sanders was 9 years old when rdr2 took place... making him older than Jack
An Outlaw will rob you and be open about it, a Business Mogul will rob you blind and then pretend to offer you sympathy when you discover your money/property is gone..
no matter how bad my day is, our lord and saviour fizhy can always help
Amazing video as always, but use the red lettering in the thumbnail!!! It’s so distinct and has become my routine in finding your videos in my recommended
NEED MORE FIZHY RDR2 CONTENT! I HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH WITHDRAWAL!
Thanks for this content this and all your work!
The greatest antagonist in RDR2 probably. It's because of him that the Pinkertons are even after the Van Der Linde gang as their main priority. Which is also why the Pinkertons are the gang's main obstacle and enemy throughout the whole game.
Thanks for the interesting content brother!👏
I've an idea Fizhy, you can also try doing a 'What if' series for Rdr2 like what if Arthur managed to stayed alive & John was supposed to hunt Arthur in rdr? It can be a very interesting videos/series. Always love your rdr2 documentaries.
Thank you @Fizhy we love you ❤️❤️❤️
finallyyyy a rdr2 video
LETS GO THE RDR VIDEOS ARE BACK
Happy Holidays Fizhy! 🎄
I know there are some differences, for one Hearst doesn't die in Deadwood, wheras Cornwall does in RDR 2 still though there a lot of similiarities between the two.
the legend is back
It would be interesting to see who the wealthiest character is in each franchise! Obviously Leviticus for rdr2, Maven Black briar for skyrim etc.
I picked up the main game pretty recently after only having Online for awhile, and I didn't throw the train driver off the bridge. He hit the ground like three or four metres before the ravine.
Great video. I saw the Cornwall vs Dutch as new America vs the old America.
damn, you drop an hour long banger, such a hunk
Love your content Fizhy, sadly haven't been able to watch one of your vids in a while but glad I start with a Red Dead video again 🤩✨️ Dragon Age would be great content too, it has amazing lore, just ignore their latest game 😂
@fizhy I can’t wait until you do more RDR1 videos like you’ve done here on RDR2
Holy shit,
He is back.
I love these. Thanks Gent 🤠👍
