@@RealPixels you think that's crazy, how about this? John Tyler was president from 1841 to 1845. Born in 1790. He has a LIVING grandson. He had a son, Lyon, in 1853 at age 63. Lyon had a son, Harrison, in 1928 at age 75. That son Harrison is alive today and 95 years old

That first song sung by Javier where everyone joins in was one of the best moments for me in rdr2. Everyone was celebrating, the gang truly felt like a family in that moment and I won’t ever forget it. Even though other members were unable to sing along and celebrate Jacks return, I was thinking of them the entire time.

Chapter 4 also features Dr. Marko Dragic in Saint Denis, who is based on Nicola Tesla. The first time you see him near the pond, he was preparing a demonstration of a radio-controlled boat to investors. This was in fact Tesla's invention and made its debut in 1898. Dr. Dragic also mentions a silver tongue American that had betrayed him, which was ofc a reference to Thomas Edison, his arch-enemy. The differences are that Tesla was based in new york at the time, and the audiences that witnessed the presentation were rendered completely speechless and mindblown and thought he had telekinetic power. In the game, those investors were not nearly as impressed by an invention so ahead of its time. Early 1900 is such a time of rapid development, it's hard to believe just 8 years later in 1907 Albert Einstien began to work on his Theory of General Relativity.
I'm doing another playthrough now, and in chapter four. (great timing for me to catch this new vid, no?) I knew about the Marko Dragic/Nikola Tesla references, and that got me wondering if the whacky artist Charles Chatenay in the game was also based on one or more figures from history. EDIT: from RedDeadWiki: "Châtenay appears to be partially based on French artist Paul Gauguin, whose early works were often panned or deemed outright obscene by critics. Gauguin spent much of the 1890s living and painting in French Polynesia, especially Tahiti, in the South Pacific. His art gained critical acclaim in the decades following his death in the Marquesas Islands."
@@blarpnarp Right? My great-grandfather was in the US Army just before WW1, and kept a diary. Among other fascinating things, he wrote about seeing a demonstration of an airplane in flight. Utterly mind-blowing stuff.
Indeed, I instantly recognised that Dragic was based on Tesla. Even when he tries to explain it very simply to Arthur saying "Waves in the air that you cannot see." Arthur's reaction to that line shows it sounded nonsensical to him (albeit he didn't have a formal education). But to think that electromagnetism is something we take for granted today yet it sounded nonsensical to a lay-person back then, it shows how far we've advanced. On a second note, one of the theater performers is a self-proclaimed master escapologist clearly based on Houdini, though not as successful as you find out later.

Interestingly enough. My grandmother died a few years ago now, and in an old trunk in the attic we found a newspaper from Sunday March 13, 1898. Completely unsalvageable, it was so fragile and would just rip at the slightest movement. Oddly enough it was in color, it's has massive cartoon on the back, at the top it says Mose's Incubator and then at the bottom it says Mose's Feeds His Flock... Initialed Geo.B.Luks.
Gotta love how Rockstar made the most detailed, immersive and realistic city in possibly any game ever, and it's only a tiny part of a much larger map.
One thing you could have mentioned are the Horsehead hitching posts in Saint-Denis, which can still be found in the french quarter today. In fact I was in the french quarter just a couple days ago and upon seeing them I thought to myself "Hey, I hitched my horse to those everytime I sold my pelts to the trapper or visited the fence in RDR2"
I actually spoke about hitching posts in the first episode (Chapter 1) but that certainly would have been an interesting comparison to modern-day New Orleans!
Great video overall, but I kinda feel like you missed the big elephant in the room: Since RDR2 is set just before the mass production of the automobile (or horseless carriage as it is referred to by other NPCs), the streets of Saint Denis are chaotic since there were no established traffic laws, which meant that carriage drivers had to mutually agree on who should yield. That was actually true back then. Moreover, there was no such thing as "jaywalking", so pedestrians cross the streets pretty carelessly. This is something a lot of players seem to complain about when they try to rush through the streets on horseback because it's very easy to accidentally run over a pedestrian because of this, but it is 100% historically accurate.
I'm also pretty disappointed that he made no mention of the origins of American Mafia, which started with the Black Hand, right there in New Orleans. The whole Bronte story line is a pretty obvious reference to that.
I won’t lie, I thought this was just going to be a 30 minute video of somebody ranting with a few pictures, but I love how side-by-side the comparisons are and how you get down to brass tacks in a quick and concise manner. Keep up the series! Well done!
Surprised you didn't mention how closely the cemetery resembles Old St. Louis No.1 in New Orleans. I grew up there; I still remember seeing those old horse-head hitching posts on a few streets in the '80s and '90s. I think a few might still be around here and there. I am truly impressed with how well the developers got the look and feel of the older sections of New Orleans. Nothing is an exact copy, yet going anywhere in St. Denis in the game, I know exactly where I am supposed to be in New Orleans.
Saint Denis wanted soundtrack is amazing. The one with the accordeon is just from another world, and puts you ON when fight cops on the city like no other game.

I’m from NOLA, and always wanted a GTA in New Orleans but knew it wouldn’t come and would probably be in vice city again, but red dead being in the south and having Saint Denis as the more urban area, is perfect. They nailed it to the tea too, they did they’re research and it matches 1800s NOLA like GTA 5 nailed LA. So greatful they put it in this game
I love gaming and I LOVE history. Games like RDR2, Ac black-flag, Odyssey and kingdom come deliverance are my all time favorites, mostly because of their historical settings. Needless to say, I absolutely love your historic breakdown videos. Incredible job man
Lots of folks saying the same thing, but I'll add my voice to the chorus: this series ranks among my favorite videos on UA-cam, and I eagerly await each new chapter. Thoroughly and thoughtfully researched, and just generally fascinating. Thanks for all your hard work!
I've been bingewatching this video series since a few days, and I absolutely love it! The amount of research that went into making these is very impressive. I hope to see videos on other video games with relatively realistic historical settings, such as Assassin's Creed for example
Heartlands is my favorite spot. But Saint denis is what took this game out of the western spectacle, and that’s a great thing. So many things happen in this city, the soundtracks, the gameplay, the streets, roof tops and easter eggs. The night with fog and the lights, the whole vibe. It’s like it’s own game. This city is everything mafia 3 should have been and it’s only in one chapter. Seriously i can’t express how shocked i was when experiencing the whole chapter for the first time, to me it was like sold on one city and then in the middle of the game giving you a whole new second city non related to what you were expecting but having a even greater blast. Thank you Rockstar.
It also serves as sort of a wake up call to the gang and the player. The Wild West era is over and civilization is gonna keep growing. The gang never actually gets their way in this city, which serves as a hint to how things will end for them
I don't know about that connection in regards to Kieran's death, seems a bit of a stretch considering it was done by the O'Driscolls whom don't have much attachment to a fictionalized French saint outside of that minor Rhodes connection. To me it seems more like a reference to the Dullahan (Headless Horseman), which makes far more sense given that the Dullahan is considered to be a harbinger of death as the Van der Linde gang immediately gets into a shootout with the O'Driscolls after Kieran's corpse rides into camp. The Dullahan connection hypothesis is also further backed up by the fact it has its origins in Celtic folklore and its being closely tied to the old pagan god Crom Cruach who himself is tied to human sacrifice, on top of that there is a very clear Irish and by proxy Celtic influence within the O'Driscolls so them knowing or at least being aware of Irish mythology and folklore is not that far of a stretch, there is also the Legend of Sleepy Hollow which features the Headless Horseman (Dullahan) published in 1820 in American folklore and likely quite well know by the 1890's in the games timeline. Moreover Kieran rides in decapitated on horseback like a Dullahan as opposed to walking decapitated as in the saints case and yes I do recognize it would normally physically impossible for a human corpse to walk itself but even still it just further muddies that supposed saint connection even more.
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO REAL PIXELS UPLOAD this is probably my favourite series on youtube atm. Thank you for making them, they are wonderful!

It can happen that Pearson sings Old Scout's Lament at Beaver Hollow in Chapter 6. That song got me in tears, knowing the gang is starting to fall apart and we're witnessing it as spectators- like Pearson.
Great series, it really adds to the experience to know how much research and respect R* put into it. If you are going to carry on with St Denis can you please look at the other acts in the theatre as well? Such as the strongwoman, magician, circus guys etc? Thanks!
Another amazing video! Thank you so much. Also thank you for always including subtitles instead of having us use the auto generated ones. Your extra work is appreciated!
One thing you should bring up in your next video is that scene when Arthur's interacting with a bunch of kids, both black and white. Was New Orelans really that integrated around 1900? Good question I've had since I played that mission. I think he in that mission got to chase one of those kids through the backstreets.
I'm from Louisiana and lived in NOLA (New Orleans) for many years. Washed away could also mean hurricanes. It's well known the city was built below sea level and actually sinks more every year. When hurricanes hit New Orleans if it weren't for the levee systems everything would wash into the Gulf of Mexico ot Lake Pontchartrain.
I love your videos, they're very relaxing and entertaining! A point of clarification about cancan that is often forgotten is that the dancers didn't wear underwear, or if they did, it was extremely revealing underwear, which is why people were so up in arms about it, especially in the very puritanical U.S.
I think the bartender was talking about the war of 1812, In the battle of New Orleans the British received a harsh defeat from local Guerrilla fighters.
Hey Real Pixels! Thank you for the video and for the series. Nothing tops it. Be proud of yourself, this is just unbelievably well done piece of art. I was wondering, however, about your background. Are you a (history) student, a professor, a gamer, just super interested about the background of the game, or something completely different? Can't wait for the next video!
I think what the bartender is referencing at 6:45 is the Battle of New Orleans that occurred during the War of 1812. Funny thing about the battle is that the war was actually already over three weeks prior, but word didn’t get to either the Americans nor the British on time, so the battle happened irregardless.
Hell yes!! I've been waiting for this! Really love this series, I already love the game and the historical facts beside it makes it just awesome! Thank you for this!

It’s hard to believe you don’t have a 1,000,000 subs with the quality work of these videos. Thank you for keeping us entertained!!
I love gaming and I LOVE history. Games like RDR2, Ac black-flag, Odyssey and kingdom come deliverance are my all time favorites, mostly because of their historical settings. Needless to say, I absolutely love your historic breakdown videos. Incredible job man
I feel like you’d enjoy AC Unity as well, Paris is so beautifully done in that game!
Lots of folks saying the same thing, but I'll add my voice to the chorus: this series ranks among my favorite videos on UA-cam, and I eagerly await each new chapter. Thoroughly and thoughtfully researched, and just generally fascinating. Thanks for all your hard work!
Thanks so much for the kind words, and for taking the time to leave a comment!
I've been bingewatching this video series since a few days, and I absolutely love it!
The amount of research that went into making these is very impressive.
I hope to see videos on other video games with relatively realistic historical settings, such as Assassin's Creed for example
Been waiting for this one since so long
Same
Yes since so long great English
@@santinostefano5245 Nice use of commas, moron
thats an interesting fact about Kierans death, bizzare and terrifying at most.
i have been waiting for this video for so long!
thank you
Absolutely loving this Historically accurate series, especially how in-depth you explain the history behind stuff I would 100% never notice.
The gang never actually gets their way in this city, which serves as a hint to how things will end for them
Honestly my favourite series on youtube right now, thank you so much!
This video didn't get recommended in my feed, but I came back looking for it. Love these videos!
Please please please do "How Historically Accurate is the Mafia Series?" So much material to work with. Keep up the good work
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO REAL PIXELS UPLOAD
this is probably my favourite series on youtube atm. Thank you for making them, they are wonderful!
The level of detail you manage to drill down to is incredible. Amazing videos.
Never noticed the street names on the sidewalks that's pretty cool
this is my favourite channel on youtube, the effort u put into these videos is astounding
Man, I just love this series. Please keep up the good work.
Absolutely nailed it yet again! I'm always looking forward to the next video in this series, usually checking every day for it.
it's crazy how much detail/research Rockstar puts into their games. its what makes them stand out for sure. i cant wait for red dead redemption 3 if they plan on making one
It is in early development
@@jahidhosssin54456you mean gta 6
It can happen that Pearson sings Old Scout's Lament at Beaver Hollow in Chapter 6. That song got me in tears, knowing the gang is starting to fall apart and we're witnessing it as spectators- like Pearson.
This video definitely deserves more views! Incredible editing style and the pace made this video very entertaining
Your research and attention to detail is class 👏
Been waiting for this since the last one. These are real gems great work!
Great series, it really adds to the experience to know how much research and respect R* put into it. If you are going to carry on with St Denis can you please look at the other acts in the theatre as well? Such as the strongwoman, magician, circus guys etc? Thanks!
My only issue with this series is that it isn't finished yet! I want all of them now! lol. Keep up the good work.
Another amazing video! Thank you so much.
Also thank you for always including subtitles instead of having us use the auto generated ones. Your extra work is appreciated!
It’s the least I can do with my weird accent, but the credit goes to UA-cam for having such an intuitive subtitling system!
This is the most interesting series on UA-cam. I cant get enough
I can't express how much I enjoy these videos
You're my favourite history teacher . Amazing job on the video .
I subbed in the first few minutes of this video. I'm not even halfway done & I'm typing this, because it's a very informative enjoyable video. Thanks.
Forever grateful for all your hard work producing this series. Thank you!
Thank you for watching! I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. 😊
I love these videos so much. Seriously, keep up the good work
One thing you should bring up in your next video is that scene when Arthur's interacting with a bunch of kids, both black and white. Was New Orelans really that integrated around 1900? Good question I've had since I played that mission. I think he in that mission got to chase one of those kids through the backstreets.
These videos are top, top tier bro. Please keep them coming, there's so much to explore in RDR2 as you will know well 🙌
Keep up the good work my guy, it’s awesome how much effort you put in these videos and how well they are produced
6:00 I would've thought this was a reference to Hurricane Katrina.
more of a reference to constant hurricanes
I'm from Louisiana and lived in NOLA (New Orleans) for many years. Washed away could also mean hurricanes. It's well known the city was built below sea level and actually sinks more every year. When hurricanes hit New Orleans if it weren't for the levee systems everything would wash into the Gulf of Mexico ot Lake Pontchartrain.
I have been looking forward to this! I have loved your previous historical looks at Red Dead.
13:27
Lady had them bell-bottom trousers (trousers), boots with the fur (With the fur)
The whole saloon was lookin' at her
I love your videos, they're very relaxing and entertaining!
Hey thank you for making these, I can tell you put your own time and effort into these videos and you always make a fire ass videos
Probably my favorite RDR2 content on UA-cam. Thanks man!
This is one of my favorite UA-cam channels. Love the vids and great stuff. Thanks for all the work you put in for these videos
YES!! I’ve been so excited for your Saint Denis video! Love your series. Keep up the great work and thank you for the awesome content!
I think what the bartender is referencing at 6:45 is the Battle of New Orleans that occurred during the War of 1812. Funny thing about the battle is that the war was actually already over three weeks prior, but word didn’t get to either the Americans nor the British on time, so the battle happened irregardless.
I’ve been waiting so long for this!!!!!
I love these so much!
Learning more than I ever did in school
I love your style of video! It’s so full of personality and style. It’s art!
Hell yes!! I've been waiting for this! Really love this series, I already love the game and the historical facts beside it makes it just awesome! Thank you for this!
this man is literally gna be holding my hand through life the way he teaches things
The king has returned!!!
One of the best series on gaming on UA-cam
I love this series so much and it always brightens my day when you upload the next part
Never stop making these! You are amazing!
Sweet breakdown. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
I love this series so much. Cant wait for your next video
You NEED more subscribers. the amount of effort in this deserves 10 million subs and views. I cant give you that but i can give you thanks. Thank you :)
As a Mexican, I smiled when the gang started singing Cielito Lindo. My Grandfather used to listen to those kind of songs.
Great work. Honestly, it’s quite exceptional. I was disappointed that I’ve now caught up with just watching Chapter 4 Part One. Looking forward to the next ones in the series. Please - keep up the amazing work. You have THE best RDR2 series out there!
at about 17:00 just want to add that water chlorination started taking off in the 1890s to reduce typhoid, cholera (present in Armadillo), etc to the point that developed countries don't widely use the typhoid vaccine. also, automobiles replacing horses reduced the manure/fly vector
