Gnoggin, hosted by its creator Lockstin, is a show delving into the mysteries of Pokemon! (and other games sometimes too). Explaining everything there is to explain! Why is each Pokemon given the type it has? What are their origins? What is the lore of the Pokemon world and the design inspirations? And what does it all have to do with alchemy? Let's Go find out!

I wonder how Ash would use stone edge as a counter shield
Well, if it’s a “punch the ground and cause a massive stone spike” type move, you could easily use that spike to be a shield.
@@borby4584 Do you know what a counter shield is? It is an offensive move in a form of a defensive move that both blocks another's attack and attacks them when they least expect it. In other words it's both an offensive and defensive move. Besides the word counter in counter shield is self explanatory

Idk why he used that one, but it's probopass's stat spread, not the average for rock
He's gonna have to reupload it again at this rate.
@@qxtn can you get me a link? Because I doubt the stat spread for a single Pokemon would look like that. Especially since many of those numbers are higher than what Protopass is capable of (those speed numbers definitely don't look like base 40 numbers lol)
@@smitegrinder3854 Well the spread is 4:09 and that Pokemon happens to have a base speed of 40

"Rock Polish" can also hint at the fact that if the rock pokemons polishes its edges off it becomes lighter, since the polishing itself removes parts of its body to make it smoother, this resulting in faster movement due to it's decreasing weight.
It could be the Rock-type equivalent to Autotomize.
@@JamesDavy2009 exactly what I was thinking
How does that look from the perspective of the Pokémon? Imagine you enter a battle against a Geodude, and it just starts flaying itself.
it's possible that wide guard is supposed to imitate a Dam of sorts?
Since one of the moves it blocks is surf; which is basically a lot of water sort of just in a big wave/
Perhaps to act as a barrier to prevent surf form affecting a Pokemon against the large amounts of water/Keep it at bay.
Can't explain how it would work for earthquake though....
Just an idea, but a hopefully an alright one.
I think it just builds a wall.
@@ninjahombrepalito1721 Or that. XD
Ninja Hombrepalito no. Trump is not trying to use wide guard.
Sounds sort of possible. But i wouldn't say a dam. Those are ment to be permanent, where as wide guard is only useful for a single turn. More like temporary barriers.
@@ninjahombrepalito1721, yeah wide guard is probably relating to the idea that most walls were made of stone or brick

The only aspects to the Togepi line I could find that even remotely justify access to Ancient Power were
1. Its resemblance to fairies, who kind of have that ancient, mystical concept to them, like they're very in touch with nature
2. Misty's Togepi was found in Grandfather Canyon in the anime, a location known for housing fossils.
Both of these are a stretch, at best, but that's really all there is.

Anakin Skywalker: *NO NOT THE SAND*
5:11 Sand is course, rough and it gets everywhere. Nice reference
Still got rock wrecker and stealth rock wrong. The former is tied to Rhyperior's pokedex entry and the latter doesn't act like spikes but as floating, invisible, homing mines.
Took a rewatch to catch the Escape From the City Sonic reference. Worth it.
For me, whenever I use stone edge when I play Pokemon I prefer to picture how it appears when Ash's Krookodile uses it anime: sharp stones swirling around the user before being launched at the opponent. Seems cooler like that in my opinion.
Omg wigglytuff with peter griffins voice... I'm crying
4:36 hey I recognize that it's from the battle royal when black kyrem steps on keldeo
“This SmackDown is Raw”....I should’ve seen that coming...🤔
Which is also the real reason it’s rock type, the word was coined by The Rock
Actually, in the anime and in the move description, stealth rock is actually a field of rocks that can "levitate". When the opponent enters the battle, the rocks float up and crush the opponent
sandstorm likely is moving the sand and debrie at such high speeds it as a side effect causes a strong wind that after time can keep the debrie airborn
9:07 Raises the question why Diancie doesn't just use this insane amount of power directly to totally crush the enemy.
They wanted to keep Crush Grip a signature move.
@@JamesDavy2009Diancie doesn't literally crush air lol. She uses magic to pressurize the air and turn it into diamonds. So she basically can telekinetically squeeze the air...which does indeed beg the question as to why she doesn't compress the enemy lol
I think a cool idea for a video would be a review/reasoning for all the gigantamax Pokemon and their g-max moves
4:10 *says Defense is highest average stat for rock types*
Special Defense: Am I joke to you?
*I only walk around and step a sharp rock while barefoot*
Owww..... Who used stealth rock...
I've always thought Wide Guard involved the Pokémon using rocks to create an obstacle that can blunt big sweeping attacks so they don't do anything, like a short wall or a series of pillars
Aww no, the end theme ended early :(
Most moves are throwing rocks but are still physical and not special.
You know, I'm surprised you're still making videos, given you were crushed by that Ditto egg meteor. Were these just pre-recorded? Or do you just grow clones in an underground farm like me?
Attempt 3, let's go
ngl 80% of rock moves are just "yeet the stone at them". Yeet a little stone, yeet a big stone, yeet a lot of stones, yeet a lot of gemstones, etc etc.
7:59 "Escape From The City" reference (Sonic Adventure 2)
Stealth Rock creates levitating rocks. So that’s why it can affect flying types.
"Defense is the highest stat on average for rock-type pokemon"
_Shows special defense being higher_
It's not. You can literally look it up right now.
I'd say the logic of Wide Guard is that it raises rocks from the battlefield to narrow the path between the combatants like a chasm, thus wide area attacks are too crowded to hit other targets.
5:10
I got that reference!
You should cover Temtem! Very interested in your thoughts~
5:11 Anakin would be proud, Lock.
In Italian "Wide guard" has been "translated" as "Bodyguard", I always thought it was the pokemon itself that was protecting his allies
I don't know what to comment so........
Pineapple juice
He talks about roads melting, all I can think of is Heatblast vs Vilgax in Ben 10
Togepi learns Ancient Power due to the fact that Misty's Togepi was APPARENTLY born from an Ancient Egg, so therefore it learns Ancient Power
The only reason sandstorm is rock type is because it's meant to hit flying type pokemon that are normally immune to ground attack, although I don't understand why they just couldn't change the program of the attack so that it hit flying type while remaining ground but I'm not a computer engineer so
When you were talking about how irritating sand is, all I could think of was Anakin’s famously horrible line from Attack of the Clones 😆
RJ Miller he should have made a joke about that
Say what you will about that line, but you have to admit Anakin was right.
I'm Still Confused To This day About how Sandstorm Is Not Ground Type But it's Rock Type Even though it's Just a Bunch Of Sands Flying Around.
I know Sandstorm Is Rock type because it's Very Large are Able to Hit Flying Creatures.
Your memes and self deprecation have peaked in this video. You have nowhere to go but down from here.
My favorite pokemon are the ones with the ROCK HARD BULGES.
The only things I can think of for Smack down being a rock type move is either A. It's based off the saying killing two birds with one stone or B. It's name is based off the Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who had a pretty significant impact on both Monday Night Raw and WWE Smackdown
I still think Smackdown should be a fighting-type move... like the wrestling equivalent to Rollout, or something.
What is the background music that starts at 10:05?
My guess it’s some type of rock music
Lockstin on Fairy and Dragon Type: expansive explanation of alchemy and magical lore

Thinking about Stealth rock, this does explain how Sandstorm works. But then theres Flygon's pokedex...
"rock polish is only naturally learned by rock types.. and Steelix."
Groudon: Am I a joke to you?
Finally, we can find out the deep origins of ROCK THROW
Yes. I am very enlightened of its origins.
Get out, nerd
For wide guard, imma just forget about the times Toph from Avatar the last airbender made a rock wall to widely guard herself and the crew
Diamond Storm should function like Pay Day. Like literally, you're summoning diamonds.
I think we call "wide guard" the things that are on the coast for avoiding tsunami. At least in frensh ( the two mean the same ) this is the explanation. So "the wide" in this case mean the sea. I hope it's true.
