Lemme tell ya, I spent like 2 hours, working with 3 others, figuring out what types would be fun and still work for the whole 'no type relation' idea, and within 100 seconds of this video going live... "doesnt ghost resist poison?" . . . . uh... Oops? 🙃forgot that, even though we had the type charts all in front of us... While designing it I was debating making it Ghost/Dark or just Dark, so lets just go with mono-dark in our hearts.
Yeah, with poison/dragon, you only had normal, flying, and dark being types that don't interact with either side, including the aforementioned dragon/poison, no type advantage or disadvantage. Whoopsies!
I thought the monkey could have been flying/electric because electric didn't seem to interact with anything either, but ofc dragon resists it cause dragons just resist anything impressive.
17:48 "I also like it's teeny, tiny little arms. What can it even grab with those?" My heart. It grabbed my heart because Destrotr is my friend now and I will forever cry that it isn't an official Pokémon that I can't use in any games.
The Multi-Type Advantage / Draconic starters are probably the most fitting, thematically-wise (especially when considering the concept of Infinity Energy)
Imagine your whole town has seen a sudden increase in plant growth since the meteor shower last week and now the buildings are almost completely blanketed in vines. In the undergrowth you find a glowing spiky ball, your growlith wont stop barking at it like he's ready to rip it apart. The fluid in the orb is too foggy to see through but you take it to your local professor. That night you get a call. THERES AN EMBRYO. You hop on your bike to prof's house but as you pass an open field of tall grass your caught by all the glowing orbs in it. A giant feline ultra beast descends. Its swirls in the air, leaping on nothing. The orbs from the ground slowly roll to it. Soon followed by floating orbs pulled from the trees behind you. The ultra beast canters in circles with the orbs in the air. Finally it leaps up and up into the sky with the orbs trailing behind its tail. The night is finally dark with remains of a crop circle in the field. You race over to the prof's house but its locked. The next morning, you wake up to find that the plants are back to normal. The sun hasn't shined like this in days. You go back to the prof's house, only to find that its covered in vines with branches piercing out of the roof and concrete. The door is still locked.
16:28 broooo this is gonna be a contender for fakemon of the year, my jaw dropped bro. I LOVE GROUND TYPES WITH SKELETON/BONE DESIGN ELEMENTS RAAAAGGGHHH
Not me sneaking in my two favorite humans into this one. LOVE the names you gave them! AND Codenames!! AH so good! A little fact to add here to, but I also thought of Naganadel, Guhvine, and Destrotr as different corps. of a sci-fi space mission- Medical, Agriculture, and Construction. So while they can help catch Ultra Beasts, they are also important in the Ultra Megalopolis home universe where the sun has gone completely dark, and the planet's residents must survive without the light and heat of a centralized star. ALSO DID YOU KNOW THE THE UB CODENAMES LIKE SYMBIONT AND EXPANSION ARE BECAUSE OF THE INTERNATIONAL POLI--
Yeah, my thought when watching this was trying to see how such beings would fit in the setting of Ultra Megalopolis. I have specific theories on how a world like that would thrive even thousands of years after the disappearance of all stars. Both Guhvine and Destrotr fit my ideas of some bioluminescent plants surviving and geothermal and mining for energetic materials being the primary power source for a city like Ultra Megalopolis. The Megalo Tower running on geothermal is really the only thing that makes sense outside of some sort of super material we don't know of yet (or something like Fusion).
@@Gnoggin22:11 Gnoggin you sneaky bastard! You just made a Gurren Lagann-inspired Pokemon! And a space-themed one for that! The Ultra Beasts are SO COOL! I REALLY hope we get to see more of them in future games. Maybe a Let’s Go Poipole or Legends Necrozma that takes place in Ultra Space. I’d buy that in a heartbeat
OK BUT IMAGINE We are recuits from Ultra Megalopolis task to adventure into an unknown dimension because of the ultrabeast started appearing there, so we get an ultrabeast starter and adventure into Alola, catching the ultrabeast and seeing the pokemon from there from a different pov
Expanding on that, imagine that in order to evolve your starter (which I will be referring to Vergo's group, because Gio's seems like "early route" Pokemon to me, but are still pretty cool), you must undergo trials to prove you are worthy of harnessing the dragon within and receiving the blessing of The Blinding One. To evolve, Poipole must learn Dragon Pulse, so the others must learn a Dragon move as well. Kuzeed evolves into Guhvine by being taught Dragon Claw and Minorm evolves into Destrotr by being taught Dragon Rush.
Ultra Beasts are my favorite category or Pokémon, so this video makes me VERY happy. I want more UB’s so badly this perfectly scratches that itch for the time being.
Not sure if this was intentional, but Guhvine's kudzu inspiration kind of reminds me of the red weeds from War of the Worlds: a rapidly growing alien plant that cut swathes across the country
I find fun how the grass one looks like a cat, when house cats are invasive. Like in Australia where people brought them because they want pets. Then the cats started hunting the varied fauna from there
I really like Guhvine. It looks like it has some feline characteristics and that would make sense cause cats are also an invasive species. Combining two invasive species together.
THat’s what I love about your fan Pokemon ideas! You put so much thought and logic into their designs. And how dare these first stages be so adorable! Huh, I’ll never look at the kudzu in the Sonic comics the same way.
19:27 Fun fact: While a good number of people usually correct others for saying that humans or chimpanzees are apes instead of monkeys, neither is actually wrong. Apes actually do qualify as monkeys. More specifically, Old World Monkeys.
Kuzeed kinda reminds me of Dark Matter from Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, both covered in a spiky tumbleweed-like structure, with a core in the middle
UB growth looking like it's mimicking Mew's form is also interesting, reminds me of aliens taking others bodies or form like old school alien movies like Body Snatchers or Pod People.
Seeing UB names makes me think of the paradox mons from scarlet/violet. I think an interesting thought experiment would be: if the paradox Pokémon had standard Pokémon names to go along with their paradox titles, what would they be? I once heard of Roaring Moon having the name “Salmenace” as a contrast with Salamance, for instance.
Ooh ANd About Destrotr. It's probably not intended, but i hear "rotor' in its name. Which.. Kinda works? Minorm is UB Drill, and that kinda continues it..
Irionically I was thinking the same for an "ultra-megalopsis" alternate timeline series. Where these kinda pokemon were the starters. Though I went with something like Poison, psychic, fighting... Wich doesn't work as well XD Though here I designed the idea for "pre-evo's" of Necrozma as in this version Necrozma is the guardian of this city and power source. With a new form namely: "Rainbow Necrozma" Wich is basically "It can be any element type of mechanic" Prevo of Necrozma is a lil prism with 2 black triangles at the end with two lil hands called Prizma. Anyway... thats my silly idea. Love these designs Lockstin 10/10.
I love Destrotr. This is giant, ground shaking bore worm/wyrm, but he's just a big softy. The visor he's got is especially cool. If I was a denizen of Ultra Megalopolis, I'd have a tough time picking between Destrotr and Naganadel.
_Mr. Lockwood..._ *Thank you for conceptualizing more Ultra Beasts.* Seems like a truly under-appreciated category of Pokemon. And your creative Noggin' came up with really cool lore about them!
I want to add another idea, just because I think it'd be fun. If a hive of Poipole and Naganadel dies to the toxins of Laatophase, there is a chance the spirits will congeal into the hive, unwilling to leave, to create a Dragon Bug ultrabeast kinda like Spiritomb. Maybe named Dedot, from the term "Dead-Out" referring to a bee colony that died off.
Much as I like all of these Pokémom - and I do, at least the concepts - I have to mention that Ghost is resistant to Poison. Definitely a very good set of new Ultra Beasts, but it does mean the "no type interaction" trio has an interaction, though it's one I feel is fairly minor overall.
ah, the good o' what if's in Pokemon evolutions, Never get tired of this. No for reals, this is something that's been much of a head scratcher for me since X and Y. Especially the Mega Evol's as well.
Kuzeed/Guhvine is also a cat, which are super invasive, as they can and will eat(or just kill for the heck of it) literally everything that they can get their paws on.
The dragon starters have totally won my heart; being a dragon enthusiast and a dragon Pokémon admirer, I love the designs, especially Destrotr's design.
9:27 "And a lot of eldritch horros ghosts are really just extra-dimensional aliens partially projecting themselves into our dimensions" This is an excellent way to sum up the premise of Digimon Ghost Game
I mean this is technically just what the cthulu mythos is also quite a few Ghostly enemies in DnD are just astral projections from some powerful void creature
Laatophaze is my favorite design of all of these because I feel it best encapsulates the truly alien feeling design that a lot of my favorites have. Blacephalon, Stakataka, Nihiligo, Xurkitree, so on and so forth. Also I'm a sucker for ghost types.
If we ever got a game set in Ultra Megalopolis, I'd hope that the ultra beasts, even the ones we already know, could get different abilities. Maybe Beast Boost could be a universally shared hidden ability or something instead.
These designs are all super good, well thought-out, and interesting; Alas, I cannot deny that Minorm and Destrotr would be my pick every time. A subway sand-worm dragon is too amazing to pass up. Hmm. If a regional Destrotr was part Ice type, would that make it the Polar Express Pokemon?
Destrotr is super cute with that tiny arms ;-; I LOVE IT. I think that all ultra beast have "beast boost" because it not their dimension, so their abilities are change or deforme into a boosting ability to adapt the enviroment and their danger. So in ultra space, they have normal abilities and they dont have their abilities on earth because is a mecanims of adapt.
I like how your videos actually make me think and use my noggin for once. Y'know we absolutely NEED an Alola legends game that includes all Ultra Megalopolis starters.
My major problem with most of these is that they shouldn't excessively have familiar looking faces and expressions. Poipole is the singular exception and even they lose that when they evolve.
Agreed. Ultra Beasts are meant to lose the familiarity that Pokemon designs are known for. Multiple of them literally do not have facial features, and those that do have blank expressionless faces.
My favorite pokemon concept is definitely Destrotr. Giant destroyer that's actually shy and needs comforting? Yes please. sidenote: didn't know worms freaked me out so much until now. But I still want Destrotr.
I really like all the designs here! Well... at least most of them... I think the monkey one looks a bit too normal to be an ultra beast. A potential way of fixing this could have been to make it a brain floating in the dome and then making something like a monkey face from that. The ears could just be a feature added to the bowl around its head, and then you could have put wrinkles in the brain that would have looked something like eyes. The one caveot to this is that you would get the claim that "it should be a psychic type" but you could potentially get around that by explaining that the "brain" in the jar is actually just the creatures head... a head that just so happens to look like a brain. Not to mention, its head just being a brain would reflect the idea of it being a human, since humans are almost entirely known for being incredibly smart.
Ah yes, Fauxmite, the invasive virus species that sucks souls out of bodies when they evolve that you commonly give to your 10 year old as their first pokemon, what's the worst that could happen?
I mean, when one of the options in every game is a walking fire hazard, is not like the pokemon world was very concerned with handing out dangerous wild life to kids to begin with.
I think a third evolution of Naganadel (& the other hypothetical starters of this video) can be explained by the Ultra Recon Squad finding or making new z-crystals that allow their starter to Ultraburst into a new 3rd form.
Man all of these designs were amazing! And the concepts were awesome as well, definitely managed to capture the cute aesthetic most starters lean into but added a good those of alien strangeness to the first forms, which I adored Would absolutely love to have an adventur with any of these guys But Kuzeed and Guhvine were for sure my favorites in both concept and design, still everyone was amazing!
These all look so great! I think my favourite is Minorm's line, I like little cute mons, but also giant hulking monster things are peak imo - the Garchomp line is one of my favourites for the same reason. Also I don't know if it's the glasses, the big smug grin or what, but Quarantang is kinda giving Etemon vibes? Either way, they're all really cool!
Honestly, this is just making me want a Legends Alola game where we can actually go to/start from an alternate universe with UBs in it. Very cool concepts and art!! This is the first I've ever seen of Giodude's but I'm a huge fan of Vergo's, and both did incredible work!!
Ectoplasmic slime feels like a much better concept for a ghost/poison type than gengar ever was. I love gengar, but shadows are not poisonous. It's a shame he predates the dark type or he probably would've gotten that instead. Gastly does the little poison cloud, but haunter and gengar seem to lose it for some reason.

I feel like the dragon ones look more like ultra beasts to me than no interaction
I love Vergo! Her designs are awesome!!
4:45 Guhvine reminds me of Camo from Skylanders!
Destrotr is super cute with that tiny arms ;-;
I LOVE IT.
I think that all ultra beast have "beast boost" because it not their dimension, so their abilities are change or deforme into a boosting ability to adapt the enviroment and their danger. So in ultra space, they have normal abilities and they dont have their abilities on earth because is a mecanims of adapt.
i LOVE the special trio it fits PERFECTLY into the theme

I like how your videos actually make me think and use my noggin for once. Y'know we absolutely NEED an Alola legends game that includes all Ultra Megalopolis starters.
My major problem with most of these is that they shouldn't excessively have familiar looking faces and expressions. Poipole is the singular exception and even they lose that when they evolve.
Agreed. Ultra Beasts are meant to lose the familiarity that Pokemon designs are known for. Multiple of them literally do not have facial features, and those that do have blank expressionless faces.
25:04 THATS IT, THATS THE GHOST TRICK!!!!
Laatophaze also sounds like "late phase" like the late or final stage of illnesses like stage 3/4 cancer or tertiary syphilis
The Grass Dragon one having both a Bulb and Synthethis theme is touch my ethereal workshop brain rn
My favorite pokemon concept is definitely Destrotr. Giant destroyer that's actually shy and needs comforting? Yes please.
sidenote: didn't know worms freaked me out so much until now. But I still want Destrotr.
18:42 oh god no
I really like all the designs here! Well... at least most of them...
Now I want a spin off game where you use ultra beasts instead of pokemon.
@@carlossantana9645 Fair enough
Minorm is so unhealthily cute😊
I *adore* the dragon-trio! Absolutely brilliant designs & incredible art.
Ultra beasts feel like a demented, bad dream version of pokemon. Love it!
I think a third evolution of Naganadel (& the other hypothetical starters of this video) can be explained by the Ultra Recon Squad finding or making new z-crystals that allow their starter to Ultraburst into a new 3rd form.
Giving the dragons to vergo is just perfect ❤❤
Man all of these designs were amazing!
And the concepts were awesome as well, definitely managed to capture the cute aesthetic most starters lean into but added a good those of alien strangeness to the first forms, which I adored
Would absolutely love to have an adventur with any of these guys
But Kuzeed and Guhvine were for sure my favorites in both concept and design, still everyone was amazing!
"GUH" the sound of Chinese residents when they see their houses overgrown by the plant of the same name.😂😂😂
As someone who is terrified of aliens, thanks for the nightmares.
Wow those designs are just so awesome they fit in with the old pokemons so perfectly I love the designs and also Thanks to all the artists❤❤
Honestly, this is just making me want a Legends Alola game where we can actually go to/start from an alternate universe with UBs in it. Very cool concepts and art!! This is the first I've ever seen of Giodude's but I'm a huge fan of Vergo's, and both did incredible work!!
Wow these were all such awesome designs and lore!!
Braking the normals by using Ultra Beasts? Yes, please!
doesn’t ghost resist poison?
I honestly always forget this😭
Oh well
Neutral to dragon so it works out.
I LOVE HAMBIRI HES SO CUTE
gee, both concepts are amazing in their own ways
Ectoplasmic slime feels like a much better concept for a ghost/poison type than gengar ever was.
I love gengar, but shadows are not poisonous. It's a shame he predates the dark type or he probably would've gotten that instead.
Gastly does the little poison cloud, but haunter and gengar seem to lose it for some reason.
