There were 2 glaring problems not mentioned in this video: 1. No FF characters anywhere even though they had a place in the general story of the KH universe. 2. You don't even fight the Disney villains outside of Davy Jones. You just keep fighting big heartless.

One of the reasons why this one doesn't interest me. I LOVED KH1 and KH2 but that magic in their combat systems doesn't look like it's here at all. Dual wielding and those form/drive changes were so fucking cool. But I look at this one and he transforms into using shit like a giant toy hammer? That's not cool at all. That's fucking lame as hell. This game looks like such a huge letdown.

KH1: Starts with some guys on an island trying to discover worlds. You can do races, fights, you go looking for pieces to build the raft. Then you start meeting characters and traveling through planets. KH2: Starts with a boy named Roxas in an artificial city with your friends. You can explore, work, skate, there is an abandoned mansion with an interesting story. Then you unlock Sora and go to explore worlds. KH3: HERCULES
Kh2 is legitimately one of my favorite starts to a game, it’s slow but has a distinctive purpose and overall makes you care for Roxas and his lil group of friends. Kh3: NO TIME, HERE’s HERCULES BITCH
Does it even really count as a loss when she never even raises her goddamn keyblade to defend herself? When Terranort attacked and when she was kidnapped she just........ stood there waiting to be saved, good god. At least Aqua giving up when looking at the heartless storm was disappointing (and should, imo, have happened after she watched most of the party be slaughtered by it, not before anyone else even really was taken) but SOMEWHAT justifiable since she clearly has PTSD going on from having to fight it off before.
EnglishRosie I get that it would be a stretch to make her equal to Sora or even Lea, but for christ's sake, she trained in a place where time doesn't flow (whatever that means, seems she's lvl 5 by the end), and has nothing to show for it. Make her on par with KH1 Sora or something, plus don't forget she is one of the Pure Lights (which seems to mean nothing really). I never saw her use magic, yet she's supposed to be very powerful with it.
@@harryunderwood8535 Yeah, her being at about the same level as KH1 Sora with a reliance on light magic would have been fine - if anything her and Lea being on equal footing would be fine and make sense since he's used to chakrams and not a keyblade. Lea gets his ass absolutely handed to him because he's a rookie too, but at least he puts up a FIGHT beforehand. Even in the scene where everyone gets dropped he gets knocked out from trying to attack Terranort, not from standing there uselessly waiting to be saved. Hell, it could have been REALLY cool if Kairi surviving the darkness attack on her own was for more than just... holding Sora's hand out of it before she went back to doing nothing. We could have even had her TRY to square off with Master Xehanort but fail because she wasn't well-trained enough. Tbh her not interacting with Riku basically at ALL was a really weird choice too - it seems like in order to quickly shove Sokai in after it had been basically forgotten after KH2 they just dropped any bonds she had with anyone else. She and Riku were FRIENDS, he went so insane during KH1 partly because she was in a coma, she saw through his new appearance in KH2 and stopped him running away from them again... and they don't even talk. Riku's interaction with Sora was completely removed too - he talks about him, but never really TO him that much, and he just became a cardboard exposition machine without his personality. It's not like he didn't have one after he accepted his darkness, he had plenty of personality in DDD, but they just scrapped it and axed most of his screentime. A LOT of other characters got treated well but Kairi and Riku just lost all purpose or personality?
Harry Underwood she still packed the experience on the field that every other Keyblade wielder has. Training is good, but you also learn through experience
The more objective qualities like the graphics are ground breaking. The more subjective elements that actually make the game memorable, like the story and the characters, were a tangled, overgrown mess. Kind of have to give it a high score, just because the important shit is too hard to put a number on, even if its more valuable.
Hands down the best part is when Sully from Monsters Inc throws that one guy through a random door and then through another door and another door and then they shread that door
i've always done it. i only really considered kh1,kh2, CoM, and days, to be core games, the rest could just be spinoffs, and days only make into the list because fo the lore, since everything else there sucks.
@@andryduarte9164 can't disagree with you, but it still a bad game, I had high expectations for it, roxas is my favorite character, but the subplots are so messed up and boring due to the missions structure I can never really tell when will be the last mission on that world, and sometimes i just want to advance more on a world because I like it but the game won't let me I need to do missions in other worlds first. also I like the way they made the inventary on days, but I still can't deny that it was a bad ideia making players play a tetris game everytime they want to equip a new keyblade or abilitie.
@@andryduarte9164 also, I think KH is a franchise victim of inovation, KH2 had perfected the formula, from that point on, they had little to improved, only needed to add variety, maybe a fill diferent playable characters with unique magic, drive forms, summons and limits (KH bbs tried to do it, but aside from the ultimate skills they are all very similar on playstyle). instead they tried to completly change the machanics putting the command deck, the missions structure, disney attractions, command styles.

Could you at least use Magnet? I recall there was a boss who’s main gimmick was that he abused the Aztec gold curse to become immortal, and you had to collect the scattered coins to make it mortal again. The coins were large and low-resolution enough to find easily, and you could pick them up by the barrels with Magnet line spells, but had to be careful since the boss’s attacks would cause you to drop them. That was fun. But f***ing crabs!? 300 of them?! What’s Jack gonna do, deck them in armor and make them fight 100000 lobsters?

Julio Jaramillo YO EXACTLY. Fuck disney worlds they wete just too childish and straight up filler. I wouldnt have minded it as much if we had a good amount of final fantasy but we had none. This is basically just a disney game. It had literally 0 original worlds and twilight town was fucking smaller then it was in kh2 god knows fucking how. Kh4 better be mostly original worlds and final famtasy aimed at original fans and not new players whre its more mattuee and someone actually dies like come on tell me keyblades from ff worlds woudnt be sharp and badass then the fucking toys we get from kh3. I'm on the frozen world currently and one of the main issues I think is that they just go on for way to long unlike the other games were you got to one world you play there for an hour then leave but in this game each world is like 4 hours and halfway through I just want to move on
To this day I have never replayed this game, gave it one play through and I couldn’t fathom how I could wait for this game so long and feel such betrayal. I come back to videos like this periodically because I’m still very very bitter lol

SAME! I thought I was the only one who feels very little drive to replay the game even now! The Disney worlds are such a waste of time, including the repetitive mechanics they introduce. Then there is the main plot which is so uncreative, nostalgia-driven, washed out of emotions and short, that it's hard to believe it's the culmination of a 2 decade long arc of a very complex and emotive franchise!
If they had added a midpoint boss and then had secondary stories to the worlds it would have fleshed out the pacing a little better. I HATED frozen and repunzel because it was just the movie while sora was on the side saying "wow" "oh no"
@@bemiatto67 No not at all, in previous kingdom hearts it felt more like an alternate version of the movie with kingdom hearts things it, heartless, big bosses the world and story would adapt to these crazy new things in it. Kingdom hearts 3 you're watching the movie and sora is just there, nothing different to it at all.
@@RU4REALDAWG thats just how it is, the big profile disney movies arent going to have alot of change but even then Sora was still put in in the best way possible without changing the story. Most disney worlds have their story play out exactly like their movies with changes being Sora. Even then, not all worlds got that treatment. Some worlds like Toy story and monsters inc had a completely original story with sora but like i said that was how every KH game worked. Some worlds were original story, some werent.
I'm going to go out on a limb with two options which aren't mutually exclusive: - Changing the game engine at some point. This keeps people from working on the game itself, and limits them to the writing. Which runs into: - Waiting on approval for content using other companies' characters. Which now means if you're using those worlds and waiting to get approval, you can't just re-work them and send an update - and if half your game is needing approval, then you're only stuck trying to polish the bits you can work on . . . which leads to those feeling disconnected. To be honest, from what I've heard so far about it (not started it yet), its major sin seems to be not being KH2. Which is weird to me for all the sins heaped on KH2 back when it was popular. ("Who the f--k is Roxas?!" "Eight hour tutorial")
The Frozen world was just one big missed opportunity after another. Should have at least included Elsa's struggle with choosing light or darkness. Elsa wants to be good, but she feels that the world sees her as a monster and will never accept her, so perhaps she needs to just embrace that. But they don't even give you that. You can't even go into the town. The entire level is just this endless, empty mountain and everything looks the same. Sora hardly talks to anyone. If you didn't see the movie, you wouldn't know who the hell Hans is. Boss was okay though. I could write an essay about the whole game, but that world just sticks out to me the most right now. We can throw the blame a lot of different ways here. I'd say it was mostly Square Enix wanting to finally get this big project off their plate (much like the half-baked FF15) and Disney being fiercely protective of their newer properties and not allowing the KH team to take many liberties.
Yeah, right, like Disney would have allowed doing that with their #1 animated property at the moment (and it has been since the film's release). The issue with KH3 is that they can't decide which worlds can be featured. It's all up to Disney. I liked the fact they went for all 3D animated movies (apart from Herc and Pirates), as it was the best way to provide an authentic feeling of playing into the movies (and it actually felt as such for all of them), but also they had a missed opportunity with another Tron Legacy world (I get it, it was in DDD, but C'MON it would have looked insane on this gen), which is still regarded as one of the best looking movies ever. And anyways, the biggest flaw of the game is the lack of the movie soundtrack in the Pirates world. That really annoyed me.
I honestly would have really loved to see some parallels between Elsa and Riku. Both having this view of themselves as shaded people who have the potential to be good but are burdened by their own perceived darkness.
Im surprise you didn't mention that theres a cutscene every 5 min, most of the game is you beat a group of heartless then cutscene and repeat, at times it feels like theres more cutscenes than gameplay
The game is like an animated movie. The cutscenes also last way too long. If they didn't have a skip cutscene option, I wouldn't have finished the game. Way too many of them and they aren't fun watching.
I had some moments where I started the game, visited a new world, had one scripted fight against some heartless, then another cutscene, then another scripted fight and another damn cutscene. And after that I searched for a save point and closed the game.
@@breadisrad8647 Exactly, KH games have always been cutscene heavy. In the previous games there would be a cutscene than it would switch to text bubbles that you had to click through. KH3 got rid of those text bubble segments and probably added more cutscene time to make up for it. I actually prefer it that way.
You know why it sucked? It was because the creator was busy multitasking again. This time, he has that versus 13 remake in the works.. he got inspired while messing around with Riku's new hair and outfit. Thinking, "Why do all my Male characters keep ending up like.. Noctis.." Square Enix: "And so it begins.."

Not really I can argue a few, but here is the thing... I've become a person that kind of just accepts things for what they are. So it bothers me just a bit when people critique some things as "it sucks" when really its just a different personal trait that it does well. I can say the combat is button mashy, but I recently went into the original KH games, and besides DDD, and Birth by sleep, I can tell you a pretty much just button mashed my way through KH 1 and 2, and I played KH 2 on critical mode. I would have liked more encounters where guard was helpful more but pick and choose. And I liked the characters I felt like they did have personality. I think people need to think more about the song Simple and Clean. With as complicated as things seem in the series a simple gesture may be all that a person really needs. and the dialogue itself may seem cringy to others but I don't feel like it is, I felt like it fits. Again I'm not yelling at him simply saying my piece. He is right about a lot of things but I think I can disagree with his reasons, when it comes down to it, it is personal. But I felt they did a lot with this game and it was fun.
@@chaosdirge4906 Definitely agree with you on those points, this game ultimately had me shed tears and that was enough for me to close this arc. Loose end and the like is super common in every Kingdom Hearts, hell KH it where all the mystery and loose ends started. The "corny" dialogue (I will say because it isn't cringe for me its just the type of corny I can expect from a game aimed at kids or disney fans) has been a staple of the series and it isn't anything new. Plus, some of the themes explored throughout the game are so relatable and deep but I feel people are so focused on over analyzing the game that they forget to really absorb some of this stuff. I have a lot I can say on the subject matter but its as polarizing as the Last Jedi and that creates some very strong opinions that can be hard to have a regular discussion that doesn't divulge into an argument :(.
I tend to like easy games, so I liked kh3 alot, and the gummi ship was fun in this game compared to others imo. It took me 66 and a half hours to platinum, and I enjoyed it very much, but yeah, this game, while it has many flaws, is still enjoyable as a hardcore fan, imo
I Loved the game but it just feels ever so slightly rushed out , Things like...... -Removal of all Final Fantasy characters even though they helped Sora out in Both KH1 and KH2. -No Critical mode -No Olympus Coliseum battles -No Sephiroth extra Boss , They could of used his Safer form for this game. -They Turned the book of Pooh into one room with a few Mini games and Removed Eeyor. It's just weird that the ps2 Kh2 game does a better job of giving us a Winnie the pooh world then a brand new PS4 game. You can complete poohs world in about 10 or 15 mins , It just feels tacked on and like they couldn't be bothered to make it a full world again. -Less Keyblades -Some worlds are lacking like Monsters Inc , you barely see any monsters just hazmat guys. Weird when Other worlds are now populated with NPC. -No real Secret bosses - We have apparently been told there will not be a Final Mix edition of this game which means they don't plan to update it like they did for KH2FM , So who knows what the DLC will be ???? - CONSTANTLY hearing Donald say "This looks like a good place to find some ingredients" - Cooking Mini game isn't fun for many players most have complained how there is no practice and how oversensitive the controls are and that sometimes they don't even know what they did wrong. - Story feels kinda rushed and we don't learn much new and still have no clue what the Black Box has inside...... -We only visit the worlds once now for story unlike in KH2 where we had to go back twice. -Original worlds like Twilight town have been cut down and made smaller , it's sad that a ps2 game has a bigger world of Twilight Town then KH3 , we can't even go in the mansion to explore. - Not wrapping up the Cloud and Sephiroth side story. - Seeing Mickey and Riku going to Radiant Garden but we can't - It's like the Higher ups told them to hurry up and cut certain things out to save on dev time kinda like what they did with FFXV. KH3 is missing those little details like for example I would of had Prompto from FFXV talk to Sora about the Photo mode and Ignis would of teamed up with Little Chef Remy at the Bistro. I still enjoyed the game for what it was , but KH2 will always be my favorite personally.

Totally agree. What originally attracted me to the first KH game and KH2 was the FF characters, I'm so disappointed they're all gone. I'm on the pirates world collecting crabs and I'm just so disappointed with all of it, I can't find the motivation to keep playing but I want to get my money's worth out of it so I want to get to the end.
Not fighting Org 13 members in the disney worlds and there being no FF characters was a huge let down for me. Sora didnt have to fully defeat the org members if they fought in the disney worlds, but fuck, the first 20 hours seemed like a drag.
God its really hard to watch this video, I was so happy when KH3 came out and I was blinded by hype and and when I saw this video for the first time I was like "NO NO NO MARCUS YOU'RE WRONG" but a few weeks after I finished the game and I watched this video again I thought "Oh no" and I just find it really hard to accept the truth.
And that's why Nomura is focusing this supposed giant DLC on the final parts of the game, because they really are, lke mentioned in the video, the best part of this game.
@@moneeb23returns I guess you can't please everybody. We got what we wanted and the boss fights for the most part were in my opinion enjoyable. It also gave everyone the redemption they didn't receive in the base game and does a much better job of giving context to the initial ending. The story content and number of hours that can be put into it is well worth the 30 dollars. Data Battles and Black Code has also been a great addition.
Nomura: No time for Final Fantasy characters because everyone else needs Their Plots resolved. KH3: *Dicks around doing nothing for 80% of playtime and All Plots wrapped up in the last few hours* What the hell?!! Eliminate one of the filler Disney worlds and we would have more than enough time for Radiant Garden and FF characters!!!

The ending is cool but I would’ve preferred to fight them all individually in a kh2 style type fight at the end of Disney worlds especially with the weird ass cuts after you beat each person.
It makes sense that they would come at you all at once because they are all the same person now, they want you dead, and you are in the middle of a war. Makes no sense that they would just face you one on one and not take potshots.

that one was probably the most fun for me, it was just regular childish fun. i wanted to enjoy the big hero 6 world so much but it was too short and honestly a little boring
Guess there really is no such thing as a good game, then. No. You know what? This is no different than what happened with, and how I feel about something like FFXV. I still want to play this game and appreciate it in spite of all the obvious flaws. I mean, for one thing, what makes me glad is that this game actually delivered on all the plot set ups it had been building for the past 9 games and gave us a nice payoff, rather than leaving us hanging.

@@ryancarson6962 Goofy's always been the most perceptive of the Trinity. He didn't suddenly get an endless wealth of street smarts just for this game. Even the wiki points out how unusually intelligent this incarnation of Goofy is.
I kinda hated how Sora did EVERYTHING in this game. Like during the final battle there are definitely moments like Riku and his replica or Ven and Aqua saving Terra that Sora didn't really need to be in but he was because he's the protagonist but that just makes the other characters seem really incapable and kinda weak. Then there's the whole Aqua thing. I know it was foreshadowed but you could have thrown a curveball and surprised us, I personally think Mickey should've saved Aqua considering that he was the one who left her there and felt guilty about doing it. Neither Sira or Riku had anywhere near the level of connection or relationship that Mickey had with Aqua and I might've made an exception for Riku. (especially considering he does jackshit) for most of the game. But sora was an expected annoyance. Don't even get me started on Kairi or Roxas
Yeah, specially since everyone mess with Sora and treat him like he's mentally challenge and weak "because power of waking" or something, constantly. I mean, he is extra stupid and ignorant here opposed to innocently naive on 1 and 2. But everyone's on him. Yet he's always saving everyone. The ammount of time he was the one that needed saving vs all he's saved throughout all the games doesn't compare. So everyone acting like he's the lesser of them all while they themselves get their ass kick all the time, need saving or help saving someone else makes no sense.
@@Omizuke First of all power of waking is really important. It is power what allow you to snap from the darkness, and so safely traverse the Realm of Darkness. They were patronizing him, because they did know that Sora wold rush there even without ability to free himself from there again. Secondary, I'm not sure if Yan-Sid really trust him considering that he know some things about past other don't. it is why he try keep Sora from all this until they investigate what is going one. And he in fact was partially correct because as Braig said on beginning of the game, that he expect Sora to fallow all the crumbs as it was planed for him. And he did. Also he needed to be one finish the fight because whole thing was designed exactly for him to forge X-blade. So people would need be finished either by him or his Keyblade. Xehanort would have hard time to pass No Name to his enemies, though he (or Braig specifically as Xehan00b was a stud) could use this knowledge about future to make Sora only one capable to finish the job. That include also what happen in the end. Sadly without understanding who Sora really is, it is hard to notice what is going one, and I totally agree that ending was disappointing. Hopefully DLC would make what happen more clear to people, before final confrontation between Sora and his other half, so Master of the Masters.

Although it's like like he hasn't screw up before. And yeah, I don't see him trusting many people or even fully anyone. And yeah, the writing made Sora dumber than a bags of bricks here. (Debatable with DDD?) But the whole treatment seems off. As for the finishing, well yeah, and Xehanort set up or not. It still doesn't change it. Credit where is due. And Sora has proved his worth. There is only so much Xehanort can controll with his planning and if Sora woldn't have been been good at all this he wouldn't have lasted even the first game. So yeah, my problem is his treatment in all this. It might have seem like a fun thing at first, but it get old, really fast. And well, it just hit me that it could actually be a translation thing, where thing would sound a lot different natively. You know, what of those things that "Its not what he said, its how he said it" As for DLC, that whole idea just put me off. This doesn't need to be another FF15 where the rest of the story needs to be told in updated, patches and DLCs. It's not like KH is stranger to extra installments. Portable and such. I rather have a full individual game than an ad don to this one. Two things: Why she doesn't remember Sora? But also why she think that Riku moved? He and Sora disappeared after land fall in the darkness. You don't say that someone moved if you don't know that was what exactly happened. But now is the thing. Most of characters on isle beside Kairi and Selphie (who are from mainland) are from Final Fantasy X. And here is the thing. There is in this game character called Rikku. She is a tomboy girl, but Seplphie could not know that presuming that it was a boy. In short Kairi memory were implanted after Destiny land fall in the darkness. Both Riku and Sora never really were from there. It is also why Kairi forget them after KH same way as Lea needed time to regain his memory as nobody. But what about BBS team and Xehanort? Well, all of them were Norted, so they just could see illusion. Selphie is important because she is known outsider. Anyway I believe that Master split himself on two, like with Ventus and Vanitas. As such he needed complementary heart. Ordinal plan most likely consider use of Ventus (who is ancient master) but I suspect someone else interfered. I think it was Brain aka the virus guy (I personally think that he is that other guy with two colored eyes, from secret ending). Anyway that is the reason why Xehanort look like Riku, who is other half of Brain same way as Sora is other half of Master. At least such is the theory..
When I defeated Aqua I thought I reached the half way point of the game due to all of the pacing had amounted to literally ZERO major plot points but nope, turns out the last level was next. So disappointed.

Speaking of in-between worlds they missed a huge opportunity with Castle Oblivion/Land of Departure being a playable world with Aqua as a guest party member. At least before that cutscene of her transforming the world you could’ve made your way through the world fighting any heartless or other enemies on the way till you got close enough to the castle. Would’ve been nice even if the world were to have been as small as Twilight Town.
Deadass. I was actually excited for Kairi to see if she was controllable or had sick moments in the game, but it was like Nomura didn't know what to do with her, panicked, and said.. "uhh and then Kairi gets kidnapped by Xemnas, gets killed, and Sora goes to bring her back...the end.."
The funniest part is that Kairi is killed by Xehanort.....and IN THE LITERAL ENDING, he brings her back. So the hook for the next game....was resolved, in the ending, for a completely different hook.
Honestly, your opinion on how they handled aqua is how i felt about the last quarter of the game. Roxas is brought back with no build up or issue. Xion, a character who DOESN'T EXIST, is brought back like it's nothing. They have a good cry over it, but the lack of build up or explanation on how such a character was restored was insulting. Terra being saved so easily(and not being part of the final fight), was also really underwhelming. The first part of the game was a directionless slog, and the last part flubbed what SHOULD have been the best part of the game. This game COULD have been great if they had spent the game setting up the ending moments and building tension, but they decided to play coy and keep it a surprise and it was awful.

yeah i hated the story in this game. i really liked the story in 2 even though many found it too complex, it really made me want to keep playing to see what happens next. in kh3 i was bored through the entire thing and had to force myself to keep playing. only kh game i had to force myself to finish.

I haven't played it, but the game seems to have already died completely after only 3 months. With so many years of anticipation and hype, I would've thought the Internet would be soiling its pants, no matter what the game was like. But........nothing. It just came and went.

Give it time, I think they purposely made it lacking so they could start adding stuff through DLC and look like they're adding a lot. Even though most will probably be stuff that should've been in the game from the start like with FF15. You can get the "Royal edition" for half the price of the original release and it includes patch, updates and DLC.
Considering the alienated mindset of my teenage self, the final battle of KH2 with you + spike haired dude that I forgot the name... fighting the final boss in that white room, flashy effects and all that anime bullshit.. I loved that, lol my only memory of KH. But I used to like naruto and bleach at the time, so.. like I said, alienated idiot. Nowadays, the anime bullshit + disney facade don't deceive me anymore.

They had 5-/+. Well, Between KH1 and 2 it was only 3 years and KH2 is still consider the best. So the whole "It wasn't a decade, they started on 2013" is still more time. As for the portable release. Well yeah, which mean they had more ground work done. They should've focus on making a good closing on this one. And make a good wrap up. They wasted too much time re watching Disney films to rush the bulk of the plot at the end.
I feel like Disney might've had more to say on this game, and that's why the story wasn't up to par. There were no FF characters, seemingly because Disney wanted to plug as much of their merch as possible. The worlds had nothing to do with the story, seemingly because Disney wanted them to remain mostly untouched story-wise. Most of the worlds played out like they were trying to awkwardly remake the movies with massive amounts of their stories left out. There was also a (way too long) sequence for Let It Go that was soooo unneccessary.
Hakon Pyke The attraction flow rides was a no from me. Hated them and tried to avoid using them as much as possible. I’m sure disney tried to enforce them into the game. Also the combat was extremely easy. I don’t think I died once

I've been in denial about whether the game sucked or not since I started playing. I finished it yesterday and after watching this I kind of agree with you. The game is way too easy even on proud mode. The combat doesn't get good until the game is almost over. The lack of actual story until the last couple of hours of the game. The fact that 100 acre wood was reduced to a single room where you play the same mini game 3 times and then it's over. Kairi doesn't do anything for the entire game and then gets kidnapped AGAIN. Maleficent and Pete just wander around and complain about having not found the box. The dumb cliffhanger ending. Even Toy Story, my most anticipated world, was kind of disappointing. I wanted to explore the neighbourhood and the rest of Andy's house a bit more but most of the level is set inside the toy store. It's not even Al's Toy Barn. Why did it even have to be a toy store? Why not Pizza Planet or something actually from the movies? I let myself get caught up in the trailer hype (Something I don't normally do) and completely convinced myself that there was no way this game could be bad. After mulling it over I have to accept that yes (and I can't believe I'm saying this) Kingdom Hearts 3 was disappointing.

How to fix the game: (a few things) Add another KH world between the last Disney world and Keyblade Graveyard. Bring back an old favorite or something. Traverse town, hallow bastion, anything... Turn keyblade transformations into forms with a meter, like drives. Make attractions like limits. Revamp the Twilight Town world to include every part of the KH2 map, sans Sunset Terrace. Stop placing cutscenes in the middle of boss battles. Add the lengthy slow-down during the finishing attack. Fix flowmotion to be just as good as it was in DDD. Bring back FF characters. Add a Colosseum.

The 300 crabs did it for me. That's the moment when I dropped the game completely and watch a let's play of the final act of the game just so I know how the game ended.
Another thing that irked me is that Destiny Islands, Radiant Garden, and the mansion/Yen Sid's tower are all used in cutscenes, yet weren't playable areas. Who made that stupid decision.
I still find it weird that they all still go out on a journey after returning home where their friends and family are. Did Sora and Riku ever even return to their parents again?

Totally agree, KH3 should have more 1v1 boss fights. Then when they're defeated they say something like "You beat me now, but how will you fare against 13 of us at once?" and run off so Sora can fight them again in the finale. Or a plot twist, they can be revealed to be just a replica.
We needed reaction commands, or at least for the bosses, because they just turned into un-interactive slug fests. As opposed to being cinematic or cool.
It sucks because it isn't finished. I mean, for a game 5 years in development, I'm flabergasted at how much MORE content Kingdom Hearts 2 had, it's predecessor from 13 years ago.
I don't think original Lh2 had that much more . But I feel Ike alot of people compare this to Kh2FM which isn't fair fair to compare a basic game to a enhanced remastered edition. @@ninjaxsam Good point. Most people probably only played Final Mix, especially all the new fans who bought the PS3 or PS4 collections (or both) They ALL were the Final Mix versions. Or at least KH1, KH2, and BBS were all final mix versions. Not sure about DDD. People just don't realize how much less content KH2 and BBS originally before the Final Mix versions released. In fact, until recently most players hadn't played Final Mix versions though since they hadn't been officially released in North America. The only way to play them was if you could speak Japanese to import them, or to use an emulator and a mod to add English voices and translations to the game. (which is what I did around 2 years ago when I first played KH1 on PC on an emulator.)

The only real side content in 3 is cooking (which is pointless) and the 2 mini games per world and the flans (for cooking which is pointless). I guess the classic games could MAYBE be counted but you dont have to play any of them for more than 10 seconds.

I realised something felt wrong with my beloved Kingdom Hearts when I started skipping cutscenes in the last Disney World during my first playthrough. I literally have never done that before in any game.

@@boyzaya15 they're incredibly different, drive forms aren't keyblade dependant. The transformation/formchanges are. The only equivalency that seems worth it to me is kh3 Ultima weapon is close enough go final form kh2.
@@lyndonbauer1703 They're generally the same shit. You get the same types of attacks, still have to spam X, and you csn Switch between all of your equipped keyblades. The only difference is the actual animations and aesthetic.
I spent most of this game saying how much I miss/prefer 2. Kh2 was never a perfect game but in the face of this I really grew to appreciate it's pacing, it's combat nuances, it's emotional moments, it's characterization, and how fucking pumped it made me to be Sora. I felt powerful, but in slow, gradual bursts, and I felt like the story kept me going. KH3 bored the shit out of me and I somehow felt weaker while also oversaturated with combo for finishers, attractions etc.
Hearing about all the issues with the story and voice acting, I decided to play this game in Japanese and what I discovered was that it feels very much aimed at kids. The convoluted story aside, everyone's mannerisms, like the pauses for no reason, and inauthentic happiness feels very reminiscent of Japanese kids anime. It's almost like the English and Japanese versions are aimed at completely opposite audiences.
Kairi's treatment in this series, after kh2, has been such a constant slap in the face. I figured I could ignore that ugly ass outfit since she was finally getting back into the main story, but Nope

It's almost proof that they disregard her as anything but a plot point given the fact that she's one of the few characters who has a different voice actor in almost every game (everyone after Hayden were awful). Then there's the fact that she hasn't gotten 1/4 of the development of her two clones, who pretty much took her place in everything beyond KH1 (which, as someone who thinks she could be an awesome character, pisses me off, honestly.... seeing as a lot of fans adore Namine & Xion, but just _hate_ Kairi). This was just a mess, & it's honestly the biggest disappointment I have with the whole game. All that 'training in a realm where time doesn't matter' could've brought she & Axel out as masters in their own right. Not even one badass moment to prove themselves! (I could rant for days, but I'll spare you & stop myself now. xD)

I really enjoyed the Disney parts of the third game except Frozen and Big Hero 6 was sort of disappointing. All the other stuff outside of the Disney worlds was really confusing to me, especially the guys playing chess.

I agree with the pacing issue.The game tried to appeal to the newer players with no context of the kh story, by being a disney game for the first 3/4, but the bigger fans got everything shoved at the end, giving the characters no time to really act or feel genuine.
Sounds like you didn't play the game, I did the story in three days and I never thought the ending was rushed. I knew it would come down to going against all the 13 seekers of darkness, it was way too obvious not to see and they didn't throw you directly into the battle either.

And if you were paying attention to the story it's about Sora meeting with new people in new worlds to hope to wake the power of waking. I feel like it was a bad choice to swap out the drive gauge for the triangle stuff. It feels less like I earn them when they pop up. Whenever I built up enough Drive to unleash Master or Final Form, or even Wisdom or Valor, it felt worth it and special

It's fascinating because kingdom hearts is one of the most unique gaming IP's to ever exist. The concept and ideas the franchise spawns are very original and unique. The first two games were truly amazing. Just that it seemed to be rushed, and the changing of the game engine was a thing as well.

To be fair, 3 was never meant to end the franchise. It was meant to end the Xehanort plotline but leave the series open. Nomura said that back when the game was announced.
totally agree. i mean, you can't beat Nimoy, but if they could find a good replacement for Jack Sparrow and Woody, why they couldnt for Xehanort? there were moments where you were supposed to hear Xehanort with a strong shouting voice and we heard none of it. like if the guy was just reading it without any effort. it felt awkwardly weak for such a tense moment like in the final boss.
They should have pulled a Bayonetta 1 with the Organization 13 members. Individual boss fights sprinkled throughout the game, then a fat boss rush at the end.

Not having any neutral-world for the story to advance killed the pacing of the game completely. Like you've said Hollow Bastion is KH1 is one the finest setpieces in gaming, a dramatic climax and low point. Even KH2 had it to a lesser extent in the 1000 heartless battle. But ironically in the climax to so many games, 90% of the "climax" for Sora's overall story boils down to "Sora, go dick around while Riku and the King handle shit that actually matters". It's literally as if 90% of Return of the Jedi was Luke dicking around with the ewoks while Leia actually did stuff... offscreen.

KH1 had this nice escalation in the later worlds with Riku showing up and antagonizing you. This one just put some token org members in every world to tease Sora.
Okay, let's be 100% with this. Kingdom Hearts 3 should have came out years ago and we shouldn't have had to deal with worthless tie-ins like Birth By Sleep and 358/2. Those games offered NOTHING substantial to the plot and honestly I am glad KH3 cut the idiotic bullshit because the Xehanort Saga went on for too goddamn long.
A: They has 3 playable characters lined up. They should have given the player more time to use them instead of just single fights. I mean if they’re having them do the important stuff then they should get the focus to match (perhaps they could have even done a thing where after doing things as Sora you can play a campaign where you play through what they were up to). B: Sora should have saved Roxas. The game sets it up that that’s his goal, but then after Twilight Town it’s never addressed again. Literally every world past the second one is just faffing about while “coincidentally” running into the 13 SoD.
A world with pixar’s Coco would’ve been great since its about death and remembering those who have passed. Could be a great way to put in a plotline to save aqua or terra or anyone in the world of the dead. They could even sneak in zack in there as a parallel to how he died in ff7 and crisis core. It could be an explanation why we don’t see him in olympus colosseum as sora. You get a good disney world, a kh based plot and manage to sneak in an ff character. Everyone’s happy!

I have to admit, I wish they’d do more with Kairi. She’s always the damsel in distress and seems to mostly serve as eye candy. She should have her own game after this. I even came up with one: Kingdom Hearts: Princess of Light. With Donald and Goofy by her side, Kairi travels to various worlds (based on Mulan 2, Pocahontas, The Princess & The Frog, Brave, Moana, Cinderella 3, Frozen 2, Aladdin & The King of Thieves) to gather the new Princesses of light and to bring Sora back. She also uncovers more about her past and we see how she met Sora & Riku.
That sounds... Okay. Except for most of those movies not being worth a fuck. I mean, Brave, Moana, and The Princess & The Frog are pretty good movies, but the others...? Why? And Frozen 2 isn't even out yet, we don't even know if it's any good yet. I wouldn't want a game world there until the movie is out and I know it's worth playing in.
As a woman, this would definitely appeal to me! I've always wondered about the princesses and what makes them so special. Seeing as how the KH princesses are literally the backbone of Disney (besides Mickey) this concept would appeal to the female gaming community by a landslide.
They could've just given her a section of the game as a tutorial or some bs to help flesh out her character and do something with lea. Fuck it give her the Olympus type tournaments and have her and sora share a connection that basically let's them borrow each other's strength so when you level up both characters benefit in some way like they did in DDD

Yeah... it was literally the point of the designs but they probably thought modern kids wouldn't get it and they thought it'd sell to younger audiences hence the rehash of disney stories wiith no context.
I really wish they'd use the Disney worlds more creatively and integrate them into the story more. The toy story world is a great example of them actually having the Disney worlds tie into the rest of the story. It's relevant to the things the bad guys are doing and used the disney characters well.

1. No FF characters anywhere even though they had a place in the general story of the KH universe.

One of the reasons why this one doesn't interest me. I LOVED KH1 and KH2 but that magic in their combat systems doesn't look like it's here at all. Dual wielding and those form/drive changes were so fucking cool. But I look at this one and he transforms into using shit like a giant toy hammer? That's not cool at all. That's fucking lame as hell. This game looks like such a huge letdown.

Ok I'll be honest I also used potions during the ending boss too. But that was the only time. Also ate a full meal.
KH1: Starts with some guys on an island trying to discover worlds. You can do races, fights, you go looking for pieces to build the raft. Then you start meeting characters and traveling through planets.
KH2: Starts with a boy named Roxas in an artificial city with your friends. You can explore, work, skate, there is an abandoned mansion with an interesting story. Then you unlock Sora and go to explore worlds.
KH3: HERCULES
Kh2 is legitimately one of my favorite starts to a game, it’s slow but has a distinctive purpose and overall makes you care for Roxas and his lil group of friends.

Does it even really count as a loss when she never even raises her goddamn keyblade to defend herself? When Terranort attacked and when she was kidnapped she just........ stood there waiting to be saved, good god. At least Aqua giving up when looking at the heartless storm was disappointing (and should, imo, have happened after she watched most of the party be slaughtered by it, not before anyone else even really was taken) but SOMEWHAT justifiable since she clearly has PTSD going on from having to fight it off before.
EnglishRosie I get that it would be a stretch to make her equal to Sora or even Lea, but for christ's sake, she trained in a place where time doesn't flow (whatever that means, seems she's lvl 5 by the end), and has nothing to show for it. Make her on par with KH1 Sora or something, plus don't forget she is one of the Pure Lights (which seems to mean nothing really). I never saw her use magic, yet she's supposed to be very powerful with it.
@@harryunderwood8535 Yeah, her being at about the same level as KH1 Sora with a reliance on light magic would have been fine - if anything her and Lea being on equal footing would be fine and make sense since he's used to chakrams and not a keyblade. Lea gets his ass absolutely handed to him because he's a rookie too, but at least he puts up a FIGHT beforehand. Even in the scene where everyone gets dropped he gets knocked out from trying to attack Terranort, not from standing there uselessly waiting to be saved.
Hell, it could have been REALLY cool if Kairi surviving the darkness attack on her own was for more than just... holding Sora's hand out of it before she went back to doing nothing. We could have even had her TRY to square off with Master Xehanort but fail because she wasn't well-trained enough.
Tbh her not interacting with Riku basically at ALL was a really weird choice too - it seems like in order to quickly shove Sokai in after it had been basically forgotten after KH2 they just dropped any bonds she had with anyone else. She and Riku were FRIENDS, he went so insane during KH1 partly because she was in a coma, she saw through his new appearance in KH2 and stopped him running away from them again... and they don't even talk. Riku's interaction with Sora was completely removed too - he talks about him, but never really TO him that much, and he just became a cardboard exposition machine without his personality. It's not like he didn't have one after he accepted his darkness, he had plenty of personality in DDD, but they just scrapped it and axed most of his screentime. A LOT of other characters got treated well but Kairi and Riku just lost all purpose or personality?
Harry Underwood she still packed the experience on the field that every other Keyblade wielder has. Training is good, but you also learn through experience

also I like the way they made the inventary on days, but I still can't deny that it was a bad ideia making players play a tetris game everytime they want to equip a new keyblade or abilitie.

I recall there was a boss who’s main gimmick was that he abused the Aztec gold curse to become immortal, and you had to collect the scattered coins to make it mortal again.
The coins were large and low-resolution enough to find easily, and you could pick them up by the barrels with Magnet line spells, but had to be careful since the boss’s attacks would cause you to drop them. That was fun.
But f***ing crabs!? 300 of them?! What’s Jack gonna do, deck them in armor and make them fight 100000 lobsters?

Most disney worlds have their story play out exactly like their movies with changes being Sora. Even then, not all worlds got that treatment. Some worlds like Toy story and monsters inc had a completely original story with sora but like i said that was how every KH game worked. Some worlds were original story, some werent.

I'm going to go out on a limb with two options which aren't mutually exclusive:
- Changing the game engine at some point. This keeps people from working on the game itself, and limits them to the writing. Which runs into:
- Waiting on approval for content using other companies' characters. Which now means if you're using those worlds and waiting to get approval, you can't just re-work them and send an update - and if half your game is needing approval, then you're only stuck trying to polish the bits you can work on . . . which leads to those feeling disconnected.
To be honest, from what I've heard so far about it (not started it yet), its major sin seems to be not being KH2. Which is weird to me for all the sins heaped on KH2 back when it was popular. ("Who the f--k is Roxas?!" "Eight hour tutorial")

The Frozen world was just one big missed opportunity after another. Should have at least included Elsa's struggle with choosing light or darkness. Elsa wants to be good, but she feels that the world sees her as a monster and will never accept her, so perhaps she needs to just embrace that. But they don't even give you that. You can't even go into the town. The entire level is just this endless, empty mountain and everything looks the same. Sora hardly talks to anyone. If you didn't see the movie, you wouldn't know who the hell Hans is. Boss was okay though.
I could write an essay about the whole game, but that world just sticks out to me the most right now. We can throw the blame a lot of different ways here. I'd say it was mostly Square Enix wanting to finally get this big project off their plate (much like the half-baked FF15) and Disney being fiercely protective of their newer properties and not allowing the KH team to take many liberties.
Yeah, right, like Disney would have allowed doing that with their #1 animated property at the moment (and it has been since the film's release). The issue with KH3 is that they can't decide which worlds can be featured. It's all up to Disney.
I liked the fact they went for all 3D animated movies (apart from Herc and Pirates), as it was the best way to provide an authentic feeling of playing into the movies (and it actually felt as such for all of them), but also they had a missed opportunity with another Tron Legacy world (I get it, it was in DDD, but C'MON it would have looked insane on this gen), which is still regarded as one of the best looking movies ever.
And anyways, the biggest flaw of the game is the lack of the movie soundtrack in the Pirates world. That really annoyed me.

I honestly would have really loved to see some parallels between Elsa and Riku. Both having this view of themselves as shaded people who have the potential to be good but are burdened by their own perceived darkness.

Im surprise you didn't mention that theres a cutscene every 5 min, most of the game is you beat a group of heartless then cutscene and repeat, at times it feels like theres more cutscenes than gameplay
The game is like an animated movie. The cutscenes also last way too long. If they didn't have a skip cutscene option, I wouldn't have finished the game. Way too many of them and they aren't fun watching.
I had some moments where I started the game, visited a new world, had one scripted fight against some heartless, then another cutscene, then another scripted fight and another damn cutscene. And after that I searched for a save point and closed the game.
KH2 was the same way and also had some long cutscenes.

@@breadisrad8647 Exactly, KH games have always been cutscene heavy. In the previous games there would be a cutscene than it would switch to text bubbles that you had to click through. KH3 got rid of those text bubble segments and probably added more cutscene time to make up for it. I actually prefer it that way.
You know why it sucked? It was because the creator was busy multitasking again. This time, he has that versus 13 remake in the works.. he got inspired while messing around with Riku's new hair and outfit. Thinking, "Why do all my Male characters keep ending up like.. Noctis.."

After finishing the game, I enjoyed it immensely as a fan, but I think we all can definitely recognize the number of flaws in it.
Not really I can argue a few, but here is the thing... I've become a person that kind of just accepts things for what they are. So it bothers me just a bit when people critique some things as "it sucks" when really its just a different personal trait that it does well. I can say the combat is button mashy, but I recently went into the original KH games, and besides DDD, and Birth by sleep, I can tell you a pretty much just button mashed my way through KH 1 and 2, and I played KH 2 on critical mode.
I would have liked more encounters where guard was helpful more but pick and choose. And I liked the characters I felt like they did have personality. I think people need to think more about the song Simple and Clean. With as complicated as things seem in the series a simple gesture may be all that a person really needs. and the dialogue itself may seem cringy to others but I don't feel like it is, I felt like it fits. Again I'm not yelling at him simply saying my piece. He is right about a lot of things but I think I can disagree with his reasons, when it comes down to it, it is personal. But I felt they did a lot with this game and it was fun.

Loose end and the like is super common in every Kingdom Hearts, hell KH it where all the mystery and loose ends started. The "corny" dialogue (I will say because it isn't cringe for me its just the type of corny I can expect from a game aimed at kids or disney fans) has been a staple of the series and it isn't anything new. Plus, some of the themes explored throughout the game are so relatable and deep but I feel people are so focused on over analyzing the game that they forget to really absorb some of this stuff.
I have a lot I can say on the subject matter but its as polarizing as the Last Jedi and that creates some very strong opinions that can be hard to have a regular discussion that doesn't divulge into an argument :(.
I tend to like easy games, so I liked kh3 alot, and the gummi ship was fun in this game compared to others imo. It took me 66 and a half hours to platinum, and I enjoyed it very much, but yeah, this game, while it has many flaws, is still enjoyable as a hardcore fan, imo

It's just weird that the ps2 Kh2 game does a better job of giving us a
Winnie the pooh world then a brand new PS4 game. You can complete poohs
world in about 10 or 15 mins , It just feels tacked on and like they

-We only visit the worlds once now for story unlike in KH2 where we had
to go back twice.
-Original worlds like Twilight town have been cut down and made smaller ,
it's sad that a ps2 game has a bigger world of Twilight Town then KH3 ,
we can't even go in the mansion to explore.

- Seeing Mickey and Riku going to Radiant Garden but we can't

KH3 is missing those little details like for example I would of had

Totally agree. What originally attracted me to the first KH game and KH2 was the FF characters, I'm so disappointed they're all gone. I'm on the pirates world collecting crabs and I'm just so disappointed with all of it, I can't find the motivation to keep playing but I want to get my money's worth out of it so I want to get to the end.
Not fighting Org 13 members in the disney worlds and there being no FF characters was a huge let down for me. Sora didnt have to fully defeat the org members if they fought in the disney worlds, but fuck, the first 20 hours seemed like a drag.

God its really hard to watch this video, I was so happy when KH3 came out and I was blinded by hype and and when I saw this video for the first time I was like "NO NO NO MARCUS YOU'RE WRONG" but a few weeks after I finished the game and I watched this video again I thought "Oh no" and I just find it really hard to accept the truth.

@@moneeb23returns I guess you can't please everybody. We got what we wanted and the boss fights for the most part were in my opinion enjoyable. It also gave everyone the redemption they didn't receive in the base game and does a much better job of giving context to the initial ending. The story content and number of hours that can be put into it is well worth the 30 dollars. Data Battles and Black Code has also been a great addition.

No. You know what? This is no different than what happened with, and how I feel about something like FFXV. I still want to play this game and appreciate it in spite of all the obvious flaws. I mean, for one thing, what makes me glad is that this game actually delivered on all the plot set ups it had been building for the past 9 games and gave us a nice payoff, rather than leaving us hanging.

I kinda hated how Sora did EVERYTHING in this game. Like during the final battle there are definitely moments like Riku and his replica or Ven and Aqua saving Terra that Sora didn't really need to be in but he was because he's the protagonist but that just makes the other characters seem really incapable and kinda weak. Then there's the whole Aqua thing. I know it was foreshadowed but you could have thrown a curveball and surprised us, I personally think Mickey should've saved Aqua considering that he was the one who left her there and felt guilty about doing it. Neither Sira or Riku had anywhere near the level of connection or relationship that Mickey had with Aqua and I might've made an exception for Riku. (especially considering he does jackshit) for most of the game. But sora was an expected annoyance. Don't even get me started on Kairi or Roxas

The ammount of time he was the one that needed saving vs all he's saved throughout all the games doesn't compare. So everyone acting like he's the lesser of them all while they themselves get their ass kick all the time, need saving or help saving someone else makes no sense.
@@Omizuke First of all power of waking is really important. It is power what allow you to snap from the darkness, and so safely traverse the Realm of Darkness. They were patronizing him, because they did know that Sora wold rush there even without ability to free himself from there again.
Secondary, I'm not sure if Yan-Sid really trust him considering that he know some things about past other don't. it is why he try keep Sora from all this until they investigate what is going one. And he in fact was partially correct because as Braig said on beginning of the game, that he expect Sora to fallow all the crumbs as it was planed for him. And he did.
Also he needed to be one finish the fight because whole thing was designed exactly for him to forge X-blade. So people would need be finished either by him or his Keyblade. Xehanort would have hard time to pass No Name to his enemies, though he (or Braig specifically as Xehan00b was a stud) could use this knowledge about future to make Sora only one capable to finish the job.
That include also what happen in the end. Sadly without understanding who Sora really is, it is hard to notice what is going one, and I totally agree that ending was disappointing. Hopefully DLC would make what happen more clear to people, before final confrontation between Sora and his other half, so Master of the Masters.

Hell where would Riku be without Sora right now? Lost to darkness? Dead?
And I get Yen-Sid been patronizing honestly, actually I'd expect him to be like that towards everyone, he is much older, much wiser, and more knowledgeable about all this. Although it's like like he hasn't screw up before. And yeah, I don't see him trusting many people or even fully anyone. And yeah, the writing made Sora dumber than a bags of bricks here. (Debatable with DDD?) But the whole treatment seems off.
As for the finishing, well yeah, and Xehanort set up or not. It still doesn't change it. Credit where is due. And Sora has proved his worth. There is only so much Xehanort can controll with his planning and if Sora woldn't have been been good at all this he wouldn't have lasted even the first game. So yeah, my problem is his treatment in all this. It might have seem like a fun thing at first, but it get old, really fast. And well, it just hit me that it could actually be a translation thing, where thing would sound a lot different natively. You know, what of those things that "Its not what he said, its how he said it"
As for DLC, that whole idea just put me off. This doesn't need to be another FF15 where the rest of the story needs to be told in updated, patches and DLCs. It's not like KH is stranger to extra installments. Portable and such. I rather have a full individual game than an ad don to this one.

So I add my own interesting theory. In KH2 Kairi ask Selphie about own past, as she doesn't remember anything after first KH. Selphie tell her that when was younger, she was playing with boy whose name was Riku, but he moved. Two things: Why she doesn't remember Sora? But also why she think that Riku moved?
He and Sora disappeared after land fall in the darkness. You don't say that someone moved if you don't know that was what exactly happened. But now is the thing. Most of characters on isle beside Kairi and Selphie (who are from mainland) are from Final Fantasy X. And here is the thing. There is in this game character called Rikku. She is a tomboy girl, but Seplphie could not know that presuming that it was a boy.
In short Kairi memory were implanted after Destiny land fall in the darkness. Both Riku and Sora never really were from there. It is also why Kairi forget them after KH same way as Lea needed time to regain his memory as nobody. But what about BBS team and Xehanort? Well, all of them were Norted, so they just could see illusion. Selphie is important because she is known outsider.
Anyway I believe that Master split himself on two, like with Ventus and Vanitas. As such he needed complementary heart. Ordinal plan most likely consider use of Ventus (who is ancient master) but I suspect someone else interfered. I think it was Brain aka the virus guy (I personally think that he is that other guy with two colored eyes, from secret ending). Anyway that is the reason why Xehanort look like Riku, who is other half of Brain same way as Sora is other half of Master. At least such is the theory..
When I defeated Aqua I thought I reached the half way point of the game due to all of the pacing had amounted to literally ZERO major plot points but nope, turns out the last level was next. So disappointed.

Speaking of in-between worlds they missed a huge opportunity with Castle Oblivion/Land of Departure being a playable world with Aqua as a guest party member. At least before that cutscene of her transforming the world you could’ve made your way through the world fighting any heartless or other enemies on the way till you got close enough to the castle.
Would’ve been nice even if the world were to have been as small as Twilight Town.

Honestly, your opinion on how they handled aqua is how i felt about the last quarter of the game. Roxas is brought back with no build up or issue. Xion, a character who DOESN'T EXIST, is brought back like it's nothing. They have a good cry over it, but the lack of build up or explanation on how such a character was restored was insulting. Terra being saved so easily(and not being part of the final fight), was also really underwhelming. The first part of the game was a directionless slog, and the last part flubbed what SHOULD have been the best part of the game. This game COULD have been great if they had spent the game setting up the ending moments and building tension, but they decided to play coy and keep it a surprise and it was awful.
I've been told by many that they were brought back because of fan service,fans were angry and want them back resulting them being back with weird complicated ways..

Xion DID exist, which is why she was able to be brought back, thought the way she was along with with Roxas is underwhelming and disappointing.

Give it time, I think they purposely made it lacking so they could start adding stuff through DLC and look like they're adding a lot. Even though most will probably be stuff that should've been in the game from the start like with FF15. You can get the "Royal edition" for half the price of the original release and it includes patch, updates and DLC.
Leveling up to be strong enough to beat Sephiroth and the Olympus colosseum was probably my favorite part of KH
Considering the alienated mindset of my teenage self, the final battle of KH2 with you + spike haired dude that I forgot the name... fighting the final boss in that white room, flashy effects and all that anime bullshit.. I loved that, lol my only memory of KH. But I used to like naruto and bleach at the time, so.. like I said, alienated idiot. Nowadays, the anime bullshit + disney facade don't deceive me anymore.

They had 5-/+. Well, Between KH1 and 2 it was only 3 years and KH2 is still consider the best. So the whole "It wasn't a decade, they started on 2013" is still more time. As for the portable release. Well yeah, which mean they had more ground work done. They should've focus on making a good closing on this one. And make a good wrap up. They wasted too much time re watching Disney films to rush the bulk of the plot at the end.

I feel like Disney might've had more to say on this game, and that's why the story wasn't up to par. There were no FF characters, seemingly because Disney wanted to plug as much of their merch as possible. The worlds had nothing to do with the story, seemingly because Disney wanted them to remain mostly untouched story-wise. Most of the worlds played out like they were trying to awkwardly remake the movies with massive amounts of their stories left out. There was also a (way too long) sequence for Let It Go that was soooo unneccessary.
Hakon Pyke The attraction flow rides was a no from me. Hated them and tried to avoid using them as much as possible. I’m sure disney tried to enforce them into the game. Also the combat was extremely easy. I don’t think I died once

I've been in denial about whether the game sucked or not since I started playing. I finished it yesterday and after watching this I kind of agree with you. The game is way too easy even on proud mode. The combat doesn't get good until the game is almost over. The lack of actual story until the last couple of hours of the game. The fact that 100 acre wood was reduced to a single room where you play the same mini game 3 times and then it's over. Kairi doesn't do anything for the entire game and then gets kidnapped AGAIN. Maleficent and Pete just wander around and complain about having not found the box. The dumb cliffhanger ending.
Even Toy Story, my most anticipated world, was kind of disappointing. I wanted to explore the neighbourhood and the rest of Andy's house a bit more but most of the level is set inside the toy store. It's not even Al's Toy Barn. Why did it even have to be a toy store? Why not Pizza Planet or something actually from the movies?
I let myself get caught up in the trailer hype (Something I don't normally do) and completely convinced myself that there was no way this game could be bad. After mulling it over I have to accept that yes (and I can't believe I'm saying this) Kingdom Hearts 3 was disappointing.

How to fix the game:
(a few things)
Add another KH world between the last Disney world and Keyblade Graveyard. Bring back an old favorite or something. Traverse town, hallow bastion, anything...
Turn keyblade transformations into forms with a meter, like drives.
Make attractions like limits.
Revamp the Twilight Town world to include every part of the KH2 map, sans Sunset Terrace.
Stop placing cutscenes in the middle of boss battles.
Add the lengthy slow-down during the finishing attack.
Fix flowmotion to be just as good as it was in DDD.
Bring back FF characters.
Add a Colosseum.

The 300 crabs did it for me. That's the moment when I dropped the game completely and watch a let's play of the final act of the game just so I know how the game ended.
Another thing that irked me is that Destiny Islands, Radiant Garden, and the mansion/Yen Sid's tower are all used in cutscenes, yet weren't playable areas. Who made that stupid decision.
I still find it weird that they all still go out on a journey after returning home where their friends and family are. Did Sora and Riku ever even return to their parents again?
My fiance almost broke when he realized you can't skip the 'Let It Go' part, and he had to play it several times.
Based on the title alone I guarantee 30% dislikes. I'm a huge KH fan and I'm gonna play it and then come back and watch it and are gonna share my honest critique.

I don't think original Lh2 had that much more . But I feel Ike alot of people compare this to Kh2FM which isn't fair fair to compare a basic game to a enhanced remastered edition. @@ninjaxsam Good point. Most people probably only played Final Mix, especially all the new fans who bought the PS3 or PS4 collections (or both) They ALL were the Final Mix versions. Or at least KH1, KH2, and BBS were all final mix versions. Not sure about DDD. People just don't realize how much less content KH2 and BBS originally before the Final Mix versions released. In fact, until recently most players hadn't played Final Mix versions though since they hadn't been officially released in North America. The only way to play them was if you could speak Japanese to import them, or to use an emulator and a mod to add English voices and translations to the game. (which is what I did around 2 years ago when I first played KH1 on PC on an emulator.)

The only real side content in 3 is cooking (which is pointless) and the 2 mini games per world and the flans (for cooking which is pointless). I guess the classic games could MAYBE be counted but you dont have to play any of them for more than 10 seconds.

I realised something felt wrong with my beloved Kingdom Hearts when I started skipping cutscenes in the last Disney World during my first playthrough. I literally have never done that before in any game.
I didn't even finish playing the game. I felt like I was going through it was too quick and put it down. I wanted to enjoy this game but never even picked it back up lol

I spent most of this game saying how much I miss/prefer 2. Kh2 was never a perfect game but in the face of this I really grew to appreciate it's pacing, it's combat nuances, it's emotional moments, it's characterization, and how fucking pumped it made me to be Sora. I felt powerful, but in slow, gradual bursts, and I felt like the story kept me going. KH3 bored the shit out of me and I somehow felt weaker while also oversaturated with combo for finishers, attractions etc.

Hearing about all the issues with the story and voice acting, I decided to play this game in Japanese and what I discovered was that it feels very much aimed at kids. The convoluted story aside, everyone's mannerisms, like the pauses for no reason, and inauthentic happiness feels very reminiscent of Japanese kids anime.
It's almost like the English and Japanese versions are aimed at completely opposite audiences.
Kairi's treatment in this series, after kh2, has been such a constant slap in the face. I figured I could ignore that ugly ass outfit since she was finally getting back into the main story, but Nope

It's almost proof that they disregard her as anything but a plot point given the fact that she's one of the few characters who has a different voice actor in almost every game (everyone after Hayden were awful). Then there's the fact that she hasn't gotten 1/4 of the development of her two clones, who pretty much took her place in everything beyond KH1 (which, as someone who thinks she could be an awesome character, pisses me off, honestly.... seeing as a lot of fans adore Namine & Xion, but just _hate_ Kairi).
This was just a mess, & it's honestly the biggest disappointment I have with the whole game. All that 'training in a realm where time doesn't matter' could've brought she & Axel out as masters in their own right. Not even one badass moment to prove themselves! (I could rant for days, but I'll spare you & stop myself now. xD)

I really enjoyed the Disney parts of the third game except Frozen and Big Hero 6 was sort of disappointing. I agree with the pacing issue.The game tried to appeal to the newer players with no context of the kh story, by being a disney game for the first 3/4, but the bigger fans got everything shoved at the end, giving the characters no time to really act or feel genuine.
Sounds like you didn't play the game, I did the story in three days and I never thought the ending was rushed. I knew it would come down to going against all the 13 seekers of darkness, it was way too obvious not to see and they didn't throw you directly into the battle either.

But that is execution issue, not narrative.

It's fascinating because kingdom hearts is one of the most unique gaming IP's to ever exist. The concept and ideas the franchise spawns are very original and unique. The first two games were truly amazing. Just that it seemed to be rushed, and the changing of the game engine was a thing as well.

there were moments where you were supposed to hear Xehanort with a strong shouting voice and we heard none of it. like if the guy was just reading it without any effort.

They should have pulled a Bayonetta 1 with the Organization 13 members. Individual boss fights sprinkled throughout the game, then a fat boss rush at the end.

That really tells you something about a long running series when the antagonist goals are still not that clear after 20 years.
Not having any neutral-world for the story to advance killed the pacing of the game completely. Like you've said Hollow Bastion is KH1 is one the finest setpieces in gaming, a dramatic climax and low point. Even KH2 had it to a lesser extent in the 1000 heartless battle.
But ironically in the climax to so many games, 90% of the "climax" for Sora's overall story boils down to "Sora, go dick around while Riku and the King handle shit that actually matters". It's literally as if 90% of Return of the Jedi was Luke dicking around with the ewoks while Leia actually did stuff... offscreen.

Okay, let's be 100% with this. Kingdom Hearts 3 should have came out years ago and we shouldn't have had to deal with worthless tie-ins like Birth By Sleep and 358/2. Those games offered NOTHING substantial to the plot and honestly I am glad KH3 cut the idiotic bullshit because the Xehanort Saga went on for too goddamn long.
A: They has 3 playable characters lined up. They should have given the player more time to use them instead of just single fights. I mean if they’re having them do the important stuff then they should get the focus to match (perhaps they could have even done a thing where after doing things as Sora you can play a campaign where you play through what they were up to). B: Sora should have saved Roxas. The game sets it up that that’s his goal, but then after Twilight Town it’s never addressed again. Literally every world past the second one is just faffing about while “coincidentally” running into the 13 SoD.
A world with pixar’s Coco would’ve been great since its about death and remembering those who have passed. Could be a great way to put in a plotline to save aqua or terra or anyone in the world of the dead. They could even sneak in zack in there as a parallel to how he died in ff7 and crisis core. It could be an explanation why we don’t see him in olympus colosseum as sora. You get a good disney world, a kh based plot and manage to sneak in an ff character. Everyone’s happy!

With Donald and Goofy by her side, Kairi travels to various worlds (based on Mulan 2, Pocahontas, The Princess & The Frog, Brave, Moana, Cinderella 3, Frozen 2, Aladdin & The King of Thieves) to gather the new Princesses of light and to bring Sora back. She also uncovers more about her past and we see how she met Sora & Riku.
That sounds... Okay. Except for most of those movies not being worth a fuck. I mean, Brave, Moana, and The Princess & The Frog are pretty good movies, but the others...? Why? And Frozen 2 isn't even out yet, we don't even know if it's any good yet. I wouldn't want a game world there until the movie is out and I know it's worth playing in.
Stupid and gay
As a woman, this would definitely appeal to me! I've always wondered about the princesses and what makes them so special. Seeing as how the KH princesses are literally the backbone of Disney (besides Mickey) this concept would appeal to the female gaming community by a landslide.
They could've just given her a section of the game as a tutorial or some bs to help flesh out her character and do something with lea. Fuck it give her the Olympus type tournaments and have her and sora share a connection that basically let's them borrow each other's strength so when you level up both characters benefit in some way like they did in DDD
I mean I guess this seems alright, but it sounds like something most people wouldn't really want to pay for and would just watch the cut scenes on UA-cam.

I really wish they'd use the Disney worlds more creatively and integrate them into the story more. The toy story world is a great example of them actually having the Disney worlds tie into the rest of the story. It's relevant to the things the bad guys are doing and used the disney characters well.
