I’m convinced the writers of this movie never watched death note. It’s like they looked a few things about the characters and the plot then decided to make a really crappy movie based off the scraps of information they had.
That's what happens with a lot of movies. A generic or back burner movie gets a few plot points or branding or franchise slapped on top and presented as such without being actually faithful.
As someone who has never watched/read death note, but knows some details about it through pop culture osmosis, I can agree this is probably what I would make if you asked me to adapt DN.
Exactly! Light isn't the type to use a supernatural notebook to get some stupid hot chick. In fact he would've killed her the moment he got suspicious, and he would've got suspicious very very fast
The painful part to me is there are so many "Death Note" stories people can tell. It doesn't have to be the battle of Light and L or N and that one kid who basically killed trump. You could drop the Deathnote into any country in any time period with any type of character and get a wild ride. But instead we got this.
Even the same basic story set in 2023 would work. The Death Note manga is 20 years old, the world has changed a lot in that time. I'd really like to see a modern take on the story of Kira. Things like the Internet for example played almost no role in the original Death Note (just in passing).
Yeah, fun fact, the original story was about a bullied kid who accidentally killed his bullies so he used an eraser Ryuk gave him to remove them, it then cuts to years later we see he barely uses it and only for certain people
I am honestly shocked that they thought that adapting the Death Note anime into a movie was a good idea. The anime is 37 episodes and there is ZERO filler. They could cut out the part with Near, but that's still like 19 episodes, which is still like 7 straight hours. How did they think they could capture the essence of all of that into 90 minutes?? It would take like 60 minutes just to explain the mechanics of the death note
if they wanted sequels its for sure doable. a 3act structure of establishing light and the world, end of the second act being the Lind L taylor scene and ending with ray pembers death.
@@Xxxxavvs Ok, but if you watch the show, you will see that they throw almost all of the Death Notes rules away and make the whitewashed plot super contrived. Basically, the only similarity it has to the show is the name of it.
*Light in the anime:* I am a mastermind with a complex plan to get what I want and I plan every interaction i have to create a persona people will trust and thus making people not suspicious of me. *Light in this movie:* Haha notebook go brr
I think the worst part about death note getting a shitty live action is the fact that out of all the anime’s to get a live action it is probably one of the ones that would work best in a live action and they still fucked it up
There are multiple good live-action adaptations of Death Note, they're just made in Japan. The TV drama in particular is really good, it takes a few creative liberties that make for some really interesting divergences.
Light in the anime/manga was momentarily surprised, but collected himself pretty quickly. Light in _this_ live action adaptation was straight up having a wimpy, screaming episode.
i really missed the part of multiple shinigami and the whole “forgetting the death note exists and then it coming back to them when they touch it” plot point, that was one of my favorite little plotlines in the anime.
Essentially Light made that plan assuming that the memories are connected to the death note and whoever touches it. There were two death notes. To see the other shinigami you need to touch THEIR Death note. If he didnt do that weird cycle before turning himself in, its implied that he would only remember the memories involving ryuk and not rem, the other shinigami. His theory was that if he transfers ownership while holding on one of the death notes then goes through that cycle, he'll intertwine what memories each note brings back. Making it so that as soon as he touches EITHER of the notes once again he'll have the full picture/full memories involving both of the shinigamis and their notes. Same would go for Misa once she touches one of the notes. However, and mind you this is my interpretation, this was also just a theory. Light set this plan up so that even if he was wrong and that he didnt get any memories back, his life would simply work out as having caught the fake kira he assigned alongside L as the hero. He made it so that no matter happened he would win as either Kira or Light Yagami, L's side kick.
@@RustedBuddy5192Ahhh I get in in the last episode in deathnote. The reason why light cried to where misa is and run so also the reaosn why hes not kira,or my opinion is maybe when he ran and run until he got to that stairs maybe his memory of kira is gone and he knows hes wrong too, maybe he did it so that he will think they defeat kira (even tho hes kira)but that also made himself think they won yk i kinda tired to explain so yeah thats my thoughgs of your.Plss reply to me if im right..
Ryuk: Hey Light, the last human owner of the Death Note was Light. No, no, that's not you, he wasn't dumb. Light: Oh really? Who chased him then? Ryuk: He was called L, the smarter one.
When I watched the Netflix version (before I watched the anime) I thought Ryuk was a demon, bent on corrupting Light. In the anime, Ryuk is amoral and dropped the note into the human realm because he was bored. This made him a much more interesting character.
actually the director of death Note used the group survive in his previous film "The Guest" which then the duffer brothers used in stranger things, so if anything stranger things is copying adam wingard
"It also means killer in Japanese so if anyone starts looking for me they'll be on the wrong continent." Because the first thing I think when I see someone with a Japanese screen name written in Latin characters is that they must actually be Japanese.
But what makes something your name? Laws and legal papers? I think it's what you indentify as yourself. Watari always goes by the name Watari, so that's enough. L on the other hand, knows his own real name, and Light knows L isn't his proper name, so it doesn't work
@@linux_b1969 How should he know that? I mean he didnt hear that L has a real name. The script writer were just dumb as shit and only watched the first 5 minutes of each episode xD
Linus Baltasar Hoem Hegre it’s not what you identify yourself as. The rule in the death note is “The names you will see with the eye power of a god of death are the names needed to kill that person. You will be able to see the names even if that person isn't registered in the family registration."
The only good part about this movie is Willem Dafoe being the vc for Ryuk, which fit very well tbh. And the fact that the actor of L actually wanted to play an L similar to the one in the manga/anime but the script they gave him sucked.
Death Note was the first anime I ever watched, I was 12 and found it completely organically. My love for it was unbiased and something I kept completely to myself for years until I found people to share it with. It’s probably the only reason I even watch anime. When the trailer for this fucking movie came out 5 years later I didn’t even entertain the idea of giving it my time and your video proves I was right.
Ikr misa/mia is not portrayed as misa at all. Like, even the names are different. And Light Yagami is changed to Turner. Like, Netflix, did you REALLY have to? Light is supposed to be super smart, but he’s just stupid in the netflix adaptation.
@@dasher14 yeah, and with light, i remember at the beginning of the live action movie he met Ryuk while he was in detention... like light would never get detention in the anime, he’s just dumb in the netflix movie.
I think it's crazy that the live action japanese movie was more of a faithful adaptation with less financial freedom and even did some changes that while weren't perfect, were still more faithful to the story. I don't think that this will be the last attempt to make this live action, but I do hope it's a good example of what not to do.
if i remember correctly that was just his explanation to mise as to why he stays thin despite eating sweets (in that case stealing her cake) he eats sweets because he wants to and like whos gonna stop him lol
Or maybe they could just say he's hungry or maybe he suffers from a disease where he needs the most amount of calories as he can or maybe he has an eating disorder
The sad part is that the actor of L actually watched/read Death Note and got familiar with L’s character. When he got the script he was disappointed but played the character they gave him
@@gabrielcaro well aren't all the Japanese characters are being played by white people too? it takes place in Seattle, of course it's not all going to be white people. no need to point out and complain how he is being played by a black person.
Technichally light could’ve wrote for the criminal to find the death note but differently phrased, “Finds abandoned book by shore and writes the names of reported criminals.” This is how Light worded that the bus jacking criminal unloaded all his bullets on Ryuk. He wrote that he picked up paper light dropped and shot at an otherworldly creature, that is not something he didn’t know it’s something that happened. Light did not do this in the movie just thought I’d point it out.
They literally had the perfect actor for Ryuk, and a phenomenal story and they somehow created hot, sweaty corn filled Diarrhea from it. I will never understand how Hollywood consistently does this with anime movies. It CAN’T be that difficult to stay close to the anime while changing little things here and there and expanding on some stuff. It can’t be that hard to make a halfway decent adaptation. But for some reason when it comes to video games and anime Hollywood just goes brain dead.
Light in anime: (a brilliant, optimistic but arrogant and egoistic student with the vision of becoming the God of the perfect world with no criminals. Every step he makes has a purpose, his moves aren't aimless and he can plan pretty much 10 episodes forward. His downfall was his own egoism and underestimation of Near and Mello cuz he already got rid of the smartest detective of all time and OUTSMARTED A GOD OF DEATH.) Light in Netflix movie: lMaO nOtEbOoK gOeS BRR
Well, light did not loose because of his egoism...yes, he got egoistic and he did downplay Near by saying he isn't as smart as L and shouldn't even call himself his successor. But it still wasn't the reason for his loss. He lost because of one thing, Mikami's thinking being similar to Light's thinking I can explain more on this if you want but I think you must be knowing what it means
@@vedantgole231 I understand, but Light didn't really see Near as that much of a threat to be honest. He feared Mello because the guy was crazy and wanted him dead as fast as possible, but he saw Near as a boy who's playing it safe so he didn't really try with him. L is obviously MUCH MUCH more capable than Near, but Light defeated L because he saw him as a superior so a LOT OF PRESSURE WAS ON HIM. Light just heavily underestimated everyone else from the very beginning he killed L, he got cocky and started killing way too fast which led to his death. I have no doubt that if Light was equally as careful as he was with L, he would kill Near
@@DeedeeMegaDoodooo it’s not supposed to be the same what’s the fun in that anime fun’s just have no brains unlike marvel we accept that they need to change things from to comics to the movies
@@lightingmcqueen7027 changing doesnt mean destroying all the characthers. Light was dumb in the movie. And also, L's style about how he does things was absoloutly garbage. L shouldnt chase light, thats not how he does things. Its supposed to be a battle of their intelligence, not running away in the streets. Even misa was more close to the actual light than light in the movie.
A little extra, albeit a bit late, about Light showing Misa the notebook. Because there are more reasons that it's stupid. In the original series, when Misa shows up to his house, he doesn't trust he at all. Misa hands her notebook to him and even says he can just keep it if he wanted. But when it came time for Misa to touch his Death Note to see Ryuk, he wasn't even willing to do that. He made her turn around before he would touch her with his page in his wallet. He was not willing to show *anyone* his notebook, even after Misa proved that she was, in fact, the second Kira. You could say it's because he didn't want to show her it's hiding place, but it still proves the same point. Light, in the original series, did his best to plan for every outcome. He wasn't willing to show Misa his death note because he didn't want her to even have the chance to give it's location away. He wouldn't let any loose ends slide, that's why he lost in the end. All his efforts to erase all the possible leads to him made it impossible for him to escape his trapped situation. But the fact remains that he wouldn't show the book to anyone if he didn't absolutely have to, he wouldn't even let Misa know that he had a page in his wallet.
I would say the best summation of this movie is that if someone read the basic facts about the show and the movie, they would literally be mirror opposites of each other. "A (live action film/animated show) set in (America/Japan) stars Light, a student who (cheats on tests for others/is top of his class), who finds a notebook with (a lot of rules/near limitless power) that can kill whoever you write the name of inside. He decides to use this notebook to (kill a few guys/purge the entire world of crime). He is pursued by L, a (highly emotional/emotionless genius) who (knows what continent Kira is on/is literally always a step ahead of Kira). Light is accompanied by (Mia/Misa) a (b!tchy fellow student/bimbo fashion model) potential love interest who (wants the power of the notebook for herself and tries to kill him/is utterly devoted to Kira's cause and does whatever he says). Light acts (very stupid/in a calculated manner) throughout the narrative, striking fear into the hearts of criminals for (like a week/7 years), before being taken down by (Mia writing his name in the book, forcing him to kill her and go into a coma for several days/an elite squad pulling a triple decoy trap on him, which he almost escapes from)."
I could of forgiven everything in the movie if they had the potato scene,,,, But they didn't. THIS MOVIE SUCKED RANCID DONKEY BALLS.... You want a REAL adaptation that is faithful to the manga and anime... Go watch the Japanese live action death notes.... They are way WAY WAAAAAY better Their actually good.
I've only seen the Netflix version, but it was BLARINGLY OBVIOUS that a lot of information had been ommited and characters clearly altered to try and make this version suit a different format (I was aware it was an anime and I think it's a book?) The easy give aways: - We first see Girlfriend as a "slightly rebelious cheerleader type" because she's smoking (not like the other girls, but clearly still a team player). Problem: She just suddenly turns into a homicidal maniac upon learning of the Death Note for no reason at all. - There were over 60 rules right? Problem: Less than 10 rules were actually mentioned and there was no attempt to change the script to make the high amount of rules seem less odd in this movie. I was saddened by it because I could tell that this movie clearly had great potential, but the film maker did not understand the source material. Like the Cats Movie screw up basically.
I'm glad the actress for Mia went on to act in a much better Netflix show. MAID. It's really good and you can really see the bandwidth of her talent if she's given a better script.
*in the show* L: I did a thing. Light: If I ask him what he did, will he think I'm trying to figure out how much he actually knows about Kira? *In the movie* L: You're Kira Light: Lol so?
This youtuber sucks he calls Kira dumb for something that worked and im still currently watching this video but damn does this guy suck, he wants this to be a romantic film we know all there is to know to set the stage is a highschool kid with a death note that likes to kill people as sadistic revenge but he later gets betrayed by his girl friend who he later meets the L was smart when he somehow figures out that he is not in Japan 8:22 Dude im done watching this after this happened the first 4 minutes of this youtubers rant was dumb af HE CONTRADICTS HIM SELF SO MANY TIMES LOOK AT THIS 15:22 17:26 The reason the cops got to the Wheel is because they where searching for L So expect them to be everywhere like the guy said Search for those 2 people smh this guy is either ignorant or ignorant by choice Kira did his part well lore wise the acting was bad Reyuke tells kira in the beginning that he can choose how someone dies and this guy does not know what physically possible means this man should re watch his videos there are so many things that are physically possible to manipulate for example SHE physically rips the paper out the guy physically writes into the note while being mind controlled this youtuber sucks this movie was bad but this idiot makes this shit dumber than it already is. its like he never watched the first 15 mins of this movie. correct me if im wrong but I don't think L said the paper was magical i thought of it as wow everyone whos ever died names are on this paper i can use this to my advantage.
19:30 in the movie's defense, the rule seems to be that if NEITHER person has the info, then the person will not have the info. But Light is mind controlling the murderer anyway, and LIGHT knows where the book is (because he wrote where it will end up,) so I think this actually isn't a plot hole that that guy would know where it was.
I actually watched this before the anime and I thought the movie was good so it made me want to watch the anime. But now, I realize just how good the concept of death note was and even a crappy movie can make it look good.
My coworker told me he wanted to start getting into anime and he asked me, a massive weeb, which he should start with. I recommended My Hero Academia, Attack On Titan, and Death Note. When I told him to watch Death Note and how good it was he responded with “Oh I liked the Death Note Movie on Netflix so I’m sure I’ll like the anime” I choked
This Light is inferior for many things, but the greatest sin he has commited, is simping for Mia, Light in the anime never once simped for anyone, and was smarter about his choices
Anime light manipulated who’ve he needed, even if it took seducing someone. I liked anime light because he thought out every possibility and only used the death note when he needed to. Movie light said let’s kill whoever we want FOR NO REASON
I honestly suspect that the original idea for this movie was "Death Note but every character is the literal opposite of how they are in the original." Light and L are overly-emotional idiots instead of calculating geniuses, Misa/Mia is a manipulative psychopath instead of a well-intentioned but kind of dumb girl who is constantly manipulated, Ryuk goes out of his way to influence what's going on instead of staying out of it and acting as a spectator.
The movie wasn't super clear, but IIRC both times we think Ryuk has done something it's a fake out. The first is Mia killing the agents, and the other is...I honestly forget what exactly, but I think it's revealed that it's Mia again.
月食 he still goads Light into using the book the first time, and later asks him to give it up, and from what's written in the book when Light gets it he's given it to multiple humans before and possibly killed them. He also tries to get Light to give up the book at one point. Compare Anime Ryuk, who literally drops the book into the human world at random and then is almost purely a spectator.
Wait I thought they gave a reason for the candy/sweets thing in the anime as well? That's why he offers some to all the policeman who are initially trying to find kira.
Besides Willem Defoe I loved lights dads acting. That guy was Eli Thompson in boardwalk empire and was astounding im glad he was in this movie he kinda held it.
Would the pseudonym “Kira” really work in an English pronunciation? You know the word ‘Kira‘ came from ‘Killer’ because that’s how the Japanese people pronounce it. They have difficulty saying words with L. Even the Japanese anime explained that. How would this work in an English adaption?
Because according to Ryuk's knowledge in the Netflix adaptation, he states that only the keeper of the Death Note can see him in person. To me, it's actually kinda smart. Because the Keeper doesn't have to worry about trying to hide the notebook so hard unlike the original Anime series.
You must not have watched the scene where Light writes Watari’s name closely. There’s a couple a letter visible after his first name, the camera just cuts off the shot so you can’t see the full last name
I've always thought light could write her name in the same page mia wrote his so before giving her the death note and tell her that he did when he gives it to her she would be forced to burn that page thus erasing lights death as well as mias, but then reveal that he wrote her name a second time in another page, and since the only time burning the page works is the first, her death would be certain Edit that I did like 5 minutes later: or just don't reveal that he wrote her name a second time, but specify she dies with the death note in her hands and in a specific, quiet place so he can pick it back up
I still to this day do not understand why lights mother has to be dead and his farther is a dead beat, the whole idea and character of Light Yagami is that he was born for success, he’s got an amazing home life, he’s a natural genius, he’s very attractive, he’s rich, and he’s constantly reminded by the people around him that he’s great and it’s justified, so when he gets the death note he goes from a guy who likely has a large ego to having a full on god complex, making him a poor high schooler with a bad upbringing takes away so much character, he’s not a calculating, manipulative genius that’s aiming to take over the world, he’s an edgy high school kid that would probably shoot up the school and just got the death note instead
Death Note doesn't work as a movie. Period. The ideas are so deep in the anime that I was thinking about them for days. To your point, one of the most important scenes is when Light and L are contrasted, Light being a groomed genius and L being a mad genius. L was better in a raw sense, but ultimately dies because Light has superior resources, i.e., advanced knowledge of Shinigami. It wasn't a perfect information game, or else Light wouldn't have made it long enough to even temporarily "win"
i agree with this analysis so much! it's the like movie directors wanted light to be seen as the underdog finally getting his claim to fame, while the original light was the top dog. he was cool, smart, popular, the exact opposite of light turner. the movie directors butchered light's character and everything he stood for lol tumblr has a post that analyses both characters flawlessly i laughed so much at the last line. yeah light turner would probably be THAT guy who shoots but there's a debate to had there. would the original light shoot up a school? (if they made him white, they could have channeled his anger and put that line in the script, that he's a genius who's so bored of life that he may shoot up a school just for the kicks (if they made turner as smart as yagami, he would be aware of his privilege as a white man, and maybe that would have been an interesting political statement? since the directors did intend to make a racial point, imo)) i think that even though light may have the intelligence or even motivation to pull something like that, his character is shown as "wants to commit violence, but is too well-behaved/held back by society to do so". case in point: 1. he wants to hit misa, but he doesn't actually do it (because he wants her to like him to use her) 2. with naomi misora, wants to use force to extract her real name, but doesn't do so (doesn't want to cause a scene) which leads us to believe that light is confident that if he wanted to use force against a _trained FBI ex-agent_ he could overpower her, but he doesn't 3. at the HQ, his dad keeps telling him "not to keep a lady waiting" now ofc light is a psychopath and couldn't give two shits about misa, he plays the part of an obedient and well-mannered son, and this can even be seen when he loses his power: he refuses to "use" misa for the investigation there's a whole another debate about how misogynistic he is, and how that's just hidden under the surface of nice behaviour, haha light is more of an emotional abuser than a physical one
@@agarsrish Light's original motives in the anime was to rid the world of awful people and it was just a case of ego + "ends justify the means" attitude that made him act so horribly in most cases. Also, who hasn't wanted to smack an idiot after they do something stupid? I don't think it's fair to call him a psychopath just because of some of his worse traits having slight similarities to the condition. That's kind of like if the people who said shit like "Haha, I'm so OCD" actually meant it, lol
Cheap attempts at sympathy and trying to make him relatable. Problem is, Light Yagami is NOT relatable and after acquiring the Death Note, not the least bit sympathetic; especially after Naomi Misora.
When you initially started describing the idea of a black comedy with two psychopathic teen lovers I immediately thought of Heathers, and then I almost SCREAMED when you mentioned it by name. As a fan of both Heathers and the (ORIGINAL) Death Note, bravo and well done! This video is a masterpiece.
Fact: there’s actually a Japanese live action death note movie that is faithful to the source material while also being good. Making this movie even more redundant
live action doesn't mean netflix adaptation. There's 3 japanese live actions of Death Note. I didn't really like the third one, but the the other 2 are awesome.
To be fair the seven day rule in the film is to allow Ryuk to choose a new owner and that light can transfer ownership immediately is implied at the start of the film when the rules are fist explained.
I think the biggest F in the chat should go to poor Willem Dafoe. Poor guy fought to be Ryuk from what I recall and he's the best thing in the movie. He looks amazing, his voice is on point and he...is in this movie. F
@Kavanaugh Amyx well, I didn't change my pfp just for your reply, I didn't even know that your reply existed tbh... I just Changed it bc I wanted to... And people like you who think having mha pfp is "cringe" are the reason why mha fanbase is considered toxic... Like, is it something wrong about liking an anime? Just because the anime I like isn't the same as your liking doesn't mean it's cringe. Hope you get it.
Death Note, at its core, is a story about justice and the morality of killing criminals. If you replace those main ideas with sexual desires instead, it doesn’t have as much impact as it had in the anime or manga.
that is why we loved light in the anime he wasnt some dumb teenager who wanted to get laid he was a smart thinker keeping his book a secret and did not have any interest in doing anything with misa infact he hated how reckless she was and did not show his notebook until misa showed hers and was willing to do anything to become a god
Thats a generous criticism. I think Death note may be one of the only anime to have potential as a live action series or movie. Action anime like Naruto would be horrible, because live action just doesn't have the same appeal as anime action. But death note was less about the action and more about the plot. The thing is that this could've been amazing, but was terrible. I'm not saying the movie is good, it made me furious beyond comprehension. I'm just saying that if done right a live action has potential
If conditional deaths are possible just write down everybody‘s name and be like „If [name] does something bad they die.“ Problem fixed and you never have to worry about any one doing anything bad ever
One other thing that should be taken into account when discussing the coffee shop interrogation scene is that in both the anime and manga, L is a notorious liar, pretty much every scentence he says is a lie especially if it’s to someone he thinks is a suspect or if there’s a suspect around, and that extends into his suspicion of Light, when he says “It’s only a 1% chance” he’s actually saying it’s a 99% chance, which is actually a really crucial part of the character, he’s constantly doing this, in the movie he just is like “Yeah, I know it’s you”

i really missed the part of multiple shinigami and the whole “forgetting the death note exists and then it coming back to them when they touch it” plot point, that was one of my favorite little plotlines in the anime.

Light in Netflix movie: lMaO nOtEbOoK gOeS BRR
Well, light did not loose because of his egoism...yes, he got egoistic and he did downplay Near by saying he isn't as smart as L and shouldn't even call himself his successor. But it still wasn't the reason for his loss.
He lost because of one thing, Mikami's thinking being similar to Light's thinking
I can explain more on this if you want but I think you must be knowing what it means

Even misa was more close to the actual light than light in the movie.
Bruh that scene in the Anime pulled the rug right from under my fight I was even more shocked then light at that time.

I've only seen the Netflix version, but it was BLARINGLY OBVIOUS that a lot of information had been ommited and characters clearly altered to try and make this version suit a different format (I was aware it was an anime and I think it's a book?)
The easy give aways:
- We first see Girlfriend as a "slightly rebelious cheerleader type" because she's smoking (not like the other girls, but clearly still a team player).

Not bad, I am now content with this movie in that light.
It is almost as if it were a parody that doesn't make clear it is one.

Yeah, I thought that too.

I've always thought light could write her name in the same page mia wrote his so before giving her the death note and tell her that he did when he gives it to her she would be forced to burn that page thus erasing lights death as well as mias, but then reveal that he wrote her name a second time in another page, and since the only time burning the page works is the first, her death would be certain
Edit that I did like 5 minutes later: or just don't reveal that he wrote her name a second time, but specify she dies with the death note in her hands and in a specific, quiet place so he can pick it back up
I still to this day do not understand why lights mother has to be dead and his farther is a dead beat, the whole idea and character of Light Yagami is that he was born for success, he’s got an amazing home life, he’s a natural genius, he’s very attractive, he’s rich, and he’s constantly reminded by the people around him that he’s great and it’s justified, so when he gets the death note he goes from a guy who likely has a large ego to having a full on god complex, making him a poor high schooler with a bad upbringing takes away so much character, he’s not a calculating, manipulative genius that’s aiming to take over the world, he’s an edgy high school kid that would probably shoot up the school and just got the death note instead
It wasn't a perfect information game, or else Light wouldn't have made it long enough to even temporarily "win"
i agree with this analysis so much! it's the like movie directors wanted light to be seen as the underdog finally getting his claim to fame, while the original light was the top dog. he was cool, smart, popular, the exact opposite of light turner. the movie directors butchered light's character and everything he stood for lol tumblr has a post that analyses both characters flawlessly
i laughed so much at the last line. yeah light turner would probably be THAT guy who shoots but there's a debate to had there. would the original light shoot up a school? (if they made him white, they could have channeled his anger and put that line in the script, that he's a genius who's so bored of life that he may shoot up a school just for the kicks (if they made turner as smart as yagami, he would be aware of his privilege as a white man, and maybe that would have been an interesting political statement? since the directors did intend to make a racial point, imo))
i think that even though light may have the intelligence or even motivation to pull something like that, his character is shown as "wants to commit violence, but is too well-behaved/held back by society to do so".
case in point: 1. he wants to hit misa, but he doesn't actually do it (because he wants her to like him to use her) 2. with naomi misora, wants to use force to extract her real name, but doesn't do so (doesn't want to cause a scene) which leads us to believe that light is confident that if he wanted to use force against a _trained FBI ex-agent_ he could overpower her, but he doesn't
3. at the HQ, his dad keeps telling him "not to keep a lady waiting" now ofc light is a psychopath and couldn't give two shits about misa, he plays the part of an obedient and well-mannered son, and this can even be seen when he loses his power: he refuses to "use" misa for the investigation
there's a whole another debate about how misogynistic he is, and how that's just hidden under the surface of nice behaviour, haha light is more of an emotional abuser than a physical one

Percy Jackson fans be like:

Ikr ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Avatar fans even more so. Plus I’m probably the only person who actually liked the Percy Jackson movies(although the musical is seriously amazing!)
@@guyman1009 what did you like about them?
Wadrib Rab they were still fun to watch and actually sort of did their own thing.
When you initially started describing the idea of a black comedy with two psychopathic teen lovers I immediately thought of Heathers, and then I almost SCREAMED when you mentioned it by name. As a fan of both Heathers and the (ORIGINAL) Death Note, bravo and well done! This video is a masterpiece.
yes.but to in sides L and light would be great couple if the author made it bl
Just realized the ladder death was an homage to Final Destination...the victim was the lead actor
Fact: there’s actually a Japanese live action death note movie that is faithful to the source material while also being good. Making this movie even more redundant
3 movies actually
Don't forget the live musical!
Haven't watched the others but I luv the 2015 version
It's official, Japan should do the live actions
It was pretty good but Kento Yamazaki was far too attractive and well groomed to be L. Acting wise he was excellent.
My friend said he likes the live action death note more than the anime
Had to ask him for his full name
LMAO😂
I don’t need it becuase I made the deal
live action doesn't mean netflix adaptation. There's 3 japanese live actions of Death Note. I didn't really like the third one, but the the other 2 are awesome.
👏👏👏👏
You did the right thing
Light in the Anime writes the names of BAD PEOPLE TO DIE.
Light in this movie writes the scripts of the second & third acts of the movie, terribly.
To be fair the seven day rule in the film is to allow Ryuk to choose a new owner and that light can transfer ownership immediately is implied at the start of the film when the rules are fist explained.
Mom can we have death note?

Nice to see Willem Defoe practicing his Green Goblin laugh to prep his role in NWH
It's nice of you bring all these inconsistencies to Light-.... Oh my god.
pro: Willem Dafoe does a great job as Ryuk and he sounds awesome.
con: everything else
Willem Dafoe is amazing in everything he's in.
Still waiting for his Joker audition though.
Amber Hernandez ikr, he would be an awesome live action Arkham games joker

It's like the director wrote the "Death note" in the Death note.
lmaoo that made me laugh. good one. They really killed it
then took a potato chip

@@atlas3928 No, he wrote 'potato chips' into the Death Note as well, which is why we don't see it in the movie.

L does explain why he eats candy, it’s just for the calories.
I think the biggest F in the chat should go to poor Willem Dafoe. Poor guy fought to be Ryuk from what I recall and he's the best thing in the movie. He looks amazing, his voice is on point and he...is in this movie.

@Kavanaugh Amyx Lmao I remember when an AOT profile pic would have gotten the same reaction. It's nice that people finally recognize it's great.
Kavanaugh Amyx who tf asked
@Kavanaugh Amyx well, I didn't change my pfp just for your reply, I didn't even know that your reply existed tbh... I just Changed it bc I wanted to... And people like you who think having mha pfp is "cringe" are the reason why mha fanbase is considered toxic... Like, is it something wrong about liking an anime? Just because the anime I like isn't the same as your liking doesn't mean it's cringe.
Hope you get it.
This is the only video from this channel I like.
I’ll always love this video for introducing me to heathers. That movie kicks ass
Haha. You are being generous in your criticism. This shit had a lot more problems besides that.
No
@@justinmcintosh8640 wdym no?
Imagine if light tried writing: “all criminals ever” and it worked
LMAO, that would be amazing!!
Probably would in the movie-
Imagine if Harry Potter found a death note instead of Tom Riddle's diary and wrote his name in it.
If conditional deaths are possible just write down everybody‘s name and be like „If [name] does something bad they die.“
Problem fixed and you never have to worry about any one doing anything bad ever
it would not work cz you need to visualize the person's face while sitting their name
Can we give this farce one (1) piece of genuine credit and praise though? Ryuk looks REALLY damned good in this.
I only watched the death note movie because of Ryuk… becuase he’s Ryuk do I need to explain any further
