I was just laughing the whole time. Like obviously he sees black as HIS biggest threat to his game but the rest of board would see red as their biggest threat as they have no stone and he’s on a sheep port 6. Imo red was the obvious winner unless black got super lucky with some rolls

I think when you mono’d and built a few devs you absolutely should’ve citied your the 639 instead of getting another knight. Your sheep production would’ve gone crazy after that and I think could’ve snowballed you much more effectively. Nice gameplay overall, and good try 👍🏼
Yes. This is the first game I saw Dylan play sub par. Should have citied up when had a chance. Even the last turn, he should have taken road (road building+ one road with sheep ported for brick) because he is anyway getting robbed and they wouldn't have done anything more.

you screwed up when black built the 1 road towards 11/12 and you had road building, but u used knight and didnt cut him off! He gained 3 points going that direction with settle and long road.

Yea I panicked there and wish I had more time. At the very beginning of turns there isn't much time to decide to play a knight before you roll or hold off and made a mistake. You're definitely right.
@@DyLightedCatan I think Brent is saying that black builds that road, then even an orbit or two later you mention in the chat that black wins with road, but the whole time you’re leaving that win-con open. Not an issue per se of not enough time before rolling, but an issue of leaving that easy win-con open for multiple orbits.

At the end, you should have considered road building to cut black off to the 11 12 as that kills a settlement spot for them

It’s normal, I just speak fast. I watch all my UA-cam videos on 2X speed and it’s impacted me to where I naturally talk faster.

I want to thank Dylighted for making these videos, because this game is so horrible to play online with lack of voice comms and nonsensical players. So it's good I can get my fix just watching Dylighted.
It’s really bad. In my experience typing anything is instantly viewed as “toxic” in a game that requires communication. Lack of voice comms and toxic community really ruins the game. Table talk is a vital element and is what makes the game so great. Talking up your opponents position, downplaying yours, extorting others, whacky negotiations like future trades or other agreements is what makes catan, catan. Testing your political ability and manipulation strategy to the limit is the best part of the game which truly makes every single game unique.
@@focusobjectives As bad as chat can be on Colonist, on Catan Universe chat is hidden so no one ever uses it...except to call you a "c*nt" (which happened to me today...lol

I think you shouldn’t have said in chat to black that he has army secured as it makes it obvious that u have a lot of vps in hand and that makes ur opponents scared. As you had most dev cards, no one could know what ur devs are without coordinating together, which they didn’t seem to do in chat.
I also think that you should have used road building last turn instead of knight to steal road to be on 9 points with settlement spot ready on 6 sheep (instead of playing knight to release 6 when knights is blocked). Would have made it a bit more difficult for black to take road. But ggs

I saw that as well, but I think its better to use rb to get 5 roads on 6 sheep which means black still needs to play 3 roads, but now you have a settlement spot as well

I LOVE these videos. I was wondering why the 3-4-8, 5-9-10 setup would be viable as wheat-less? And why you prefer that over the set-up you got?
The idea with that setup is high production, road building and side by side.
Your goal is to build to a 3 to 1 port, then trade with the wheat and ore heavy players to get a city. At that point your production is so high you can go for road and even buy some devs to hopefully win LR, 5 settles, 1 city and 1 VP.
Also notice both settlements are close to each other in the corner of the board. This side by side concept means he has the ability to connect roads, space to expand for all the settlements, AND avoids getting blocked and stolen from as there arent many good ways to block them without it being a solo block.
@@djz5gaming292 Maybe I'm missing something. 3-4-8 5-9-10 gives you 21 points of production, and building to the 3-1 port means you now have 26 points of production. The set-up that Dylighted got is 22 points of production AND he has the wheat so doesn't need to trade as much. Once he builds to sheep port he has 29 points of production, and he's on 10 points of sheep which makes that port really strong. Overall more production, I guess one tradeoff is getting wheat trades might be easier than getting brick trades, but then again with the set up he got he has much better ability to pop. I'm not sure if the increased chance at road with alternate set up is worth a clear preference, especially given how high production he is.
Although one thing is clear that this set up was super vulnerable, if he lost the sheep port it's a lot weaker, and there's chances of missing that AND the 3:1 port and then it's basically game over vs the alternate set up there's pretty much no way he loses the 3-1 port...
Its not just production but speed maybe. With 2 wood and 2 brick hexes and a good sheep hex you need to acquire just 1 wheat for settle #1. Then 2nd settle follows soon. After that you need to find a way for a city but at that point youre basically unlockable, a ton of cards AND a near locked LR win condition.
Its not the only good setup but its one with a gameplan that feels linear and clean and is likely undervalued by others.
I'm hoping DyLighted doesn't reach rank 1 so we can keep on enjoying this type of content :)
In hindsiight do you think holding onto the YOP in order to get the brick you don't produce in order to settle the sheep port was the play over taking the city? You're on a 6 ore but you used half your YOP for ore and also made yourself vulnerable to getting plowed
I also didn't understand this. Early 1-1 trades of like wood for sheep and stuff were offered. I'd have taken those trades and used YOP on brick and that would've been a way faster expansion for that start than you'd typically see. Then hopefully soon the 6s hit and you can city. Probs would have also gotten less aggro too without the city.

think YOPing for a city was a pretty big blunder. Need that to road-settle to get the sheep port. Could've dev'd instead

You should have focused on the road game instead of the army game as a rule of thumb someoe is gonna get the largest army or longest road. Also while decking out the dev deck was an awesome sratagem, trading sheep for buick would have been the better strategy as you need buick to build roads!
U should have used road building to cut off black when he committed a road on the 6 11. That was my idea initially and he ends up winning getting road down there. ggs though

Also towards the end of the game you had a chance to use your road building and build to the 11/12 and settle

Cannot see how making the 693 a city was the wrong play, is it really worth getting two more dev cards when you were already struggling to use them since its capped at one per turn instead of almost doubling your sheep production? It would've left you with much more options, I feel.

That was hard to watch. You did two very serious mistakes that shouldn't happen at this level:
- The YOP for city at 7:50 was just terrible. This is a potentially game losing mistake and at any semi-competent table you would be badly punished for this.
- At 16:49: Not sure why you would ever consider buying another dev over a strong 6,3,9 city with 2 playable devs in hand. It should be fairly clear that getting army with 3 devs in black's hand is way too costly.

Yeah the biggest problem playing this game is the other players stupidity and lack of awareness.

I really don’t understand why you would buy 5 devs cards instead getting 3 dev cards and a city. You’re going to take a lot of turns in using those devs cards, which will just sit in your hand. You could instead double your production in 6 9 3 while still having 3 dev cards, increase your production through all those turns, and then buy the other 2 devs cards later on anyways with your increased production. Made no sense to me!
At 23:00 why aren't you popping again? Sacrificing all the game for devs devs devs, and then you don't buy the last knight to win it?
