Safe to say the flooring was a ball ache but thankfully a managed to get it done and I’m relatively happy with how it came out. Lots of lessons where learnt along the way hah. This isn’t my finished floor but just the foundation to build from, further down the line I’ll put some vinyl down to give a nice finish. Let me know what type of videos you want to see me create along side these and thanks for your continued support! 😄
Came out looking great in the end, and don't forget at this stage most of your works getting covered up and you'll never see it. Don't doubt you're doing a fine job, keep it up
Floor looks great overall. Really interesting way you determined the shape using that contraption you made. Still not sure how it works. Only negative is that you won't be able to stand up fully inside the van.
When we make mistakes we can look at them and feel like crap, or we can learn how to cover them up. If you were to see the mistakes made by the prop builders in the film industry and the way they hide them you would be amazed. But you're learning and there will be mistakes, the next van will be better. 👍😃
Agreed this makes him very unique from others, i also made almost all these mistakes myself and it is interesting to see someone else make the same mistakes! Overwhelming project but keep up the good work mate!
There must have been hundreds of us shouting this at the screen. The only thing I would have done other would be to keep factory edges wher the boards meet. He will know for future I’m sure.

I’ve learnt that my biggest problem is me. I need to get every job sorted, with the right tools, space, time and fore-thought. Otherwise I get distracted by something and fuck it up. You’re doing great mate. Just realise you won’t win them all so the wins are more the sweeter.
Excellent and amusing (to me) video. Trim the piece you cocked up with either right angle aluminium or wooden strip. Looks neat and hides the mess. My workmate has loads of saw cut in it. It adds character.
As a chippy, small gaps will not matter as you will have a floor covering of some sort so don't beat yourself up over some small gaps between boards , you get to know what tolerances you can "get away with " dependant on the actual job you are doing, with certain things a mm or two gap does not matter, however if , for instance, chopping in a hinge on a nice oak door then you really do have to be spot on., really enjoying your videos
For scribing, but material upto the shape, in the orientation it will put in, like is done in video. Use measuring tape and measure at the widest/furthest wood to shape distance, leaving few mill for pencil to scribe just at the very edge, where the widest measure is, lock the tape, with pencil in corner of tape and the body, then keeping the tape measure facing the same direction, start at edge and let the tape lightly run along while scribing on wood. In case of above video, it wuld scribe the two corner areas far into the wood, and the middle wider portion will be very close and on the edge of the ply I know this is simple but i like mansplainin
Im crying watching this as you making it sooooo entertaining 😂. Just about to embark on my own conversion and these videos are so helpful. Thank you for sharing your experience in a truly unique way!!! 😀
Sometimes, conjoining factory edges is not possible, or at least problematic or wasteful. TIP: Contour the wall edges as needed, and use a square to keep your genius homemade scribe exactly perpendicular while it follows the contour of the wall. Once the first wall is scribed and cut to fit, scribe and cut the opposing wall, BUT allow the two floor pieces to overlap down the center line, or middle line. Once the opposing wall's piece is cut, and the two flooring pieces are overlapping down the middle, SHIM UP the floor board CLOSEST to the metal floor with a long strip of scrap of uniform thickness, and the top piece will rise, too, as you lift the board under it. Mark the upper piece with a straight edge or chalk line, where you want the seam to be, then set your saw "cut depth" such that it will cut through both flooring pieces, but not your metal floor, of course. When the cut is finished, and you pull out the shim and leftovers, both flooring pieces will smash together snugly and perfectly, no matter how wiggly your final cut was.
As another week of work approaches and the kids are in bed, I look forward to the van build videos as an escape for a while. Will, I'm sure the most of us have made mistakes as non professionals. Cutting the subfloor contours is one of the hardest & most technical jobs on a van build so don't feel bad about messing it up a little. It happens. Don't use that edge attachment for your saw because those things work like shit. Better to clamp down a long strip of wood and use it as your saw guide. And if you want to be able to see through your face shield I would recommend removing the green protective film from both sides. It just peels off, ya know.
