Hey guys I hope you’re enjoying the van build series! Let me know any feedback or any other suggestions I can put into the build. I’ve been posting real time pictures and videos on my Instagram @willswhereabouts so check it out to stay up to date and help me along with the conversion! Happy camping! 🚐
Suggest that you approach Screwfix for sponsorship, as you mention it enough ... and they could provide some sponsorship at cost in terms of providing kit for your conversion ... Just an idea ...
If you get that overwhelmed feeling, split your tasks down into bundles of jobs, then each bundle has little sub jobs and tick them off as you go. I have MH issues and the lists approached really helps me when I get "that" feeling! Looking forward to more build videos!
Your doing a great job so far ! Don't forget to insulate everything including floor it will keep it warmer in winter and cooler on summer. It will also cut down on noise. I did and helped a lot.
Thank you for being so honest with your feelings about the conversion! First time I've seen anyone express the daunting and overwhelming feelings that come hand in hand with the excitement, youre not alone!☺️
I am really enjoying your videos I know you said there is 100,000 videos on UA-cam but yours is the most entertaining so far and more genuinely honest on how fantastic
Filling those holes.. You have that sikaflex - didn't pay attention on what type that was, but there is sikaflex that is just perfect for that kind of jobs. Urethane glue sticks very well into different things, stays flexible and is affordable. They actually assemble buses with that glue; some rivets to keep the panels in place until the glue has cured.
I've watched dozens of van & truck conversions and this one has the most clean & spotless shell to start with by far. I would have welded, brazed, or soldered the holes but if using a metal filler wasn't an option I'd have also gone with JB Weld. I use it all the time & it's my #1 epoxy of choice, so you're doing a brilliant job.
Mate I’m 2 months into fitting out a rusty narrowboat from scratch, and it’s easy to get into a headspace of oh god what have I done when thinking about what’s left to do. I’ve found giving time to visualise and think through the next few steps and focusing on the job in hand, taking baby steps moves you miles when you turn back to look. Love the videos man,
Absolutely love your van building series. Most videos I have seen and people gloss right over the technicalities - thank you so much for sharing! Can't wait to build my own!
I feel like you’re doing a great job. You’re going to be so proud of this when done and it’s going to take you on some super adventures. Enjoying the series. Carry on!
This truly is one of the best van build series i've seen. And thats having spent the past 18 months watching multiple van builds daily! Thanks for such a detailed and thorough work through. I'm looking to get my own Ducato in the next few months and am taking notes of all the quirks and bumps you come across along the way. Also - Awesome to see you have a Tesla Power pack at your garage! Super videos buddy. Can't wait for each one you do! Keep up the superb work!
Enjoying the vids immensely, this van build is going to take all your blood, sweat and tears, but it WILL be worth it! I’m talking like I have experience, I don’t, but eventually I want my own van and your vids are showing the realities of achieving the van life dream. Keep your chin up look forward to your next update
Will, I think your doing a great job here, listen up, just take one thing at a time and don’t worry, it will all be fine. The solar system can wait, it’s not too difficult once you’ve got all the correct parts and done the math correctly. Remember you’ve still got the Jackery with a fair few watt hours in that. Take care, and we’ll done so far. 😀👍
Dude!!!! Thank you for saying that first part cause I'm doing my best not to let all this stuff 🤯 . I know I'm not alone. This video was 3 yrs ago. I hope you are doing well
Use a Vibrating Widget or Mouse sander on hat JB weld with like 220 or 320 grit and it will smooth out great. Then hit with hammerite again to make sure. Kilmat (r) or Dynamat butyl matting from Amazon heavy on wheel wells and couple spots on walls and ceiling to cancel road vibration and cut out noise is a great idea. what are you going to use beneath your subfloor? insulation? Rubber mat? (the stuff that goes under Carpet? that way you have insulative value as well additional sound deadening. Cheers and keep up the spirit.
Hi Will, hope your good. Im enjoying your van build, your getting there, I was getting stressed with my van , but just walk away from it for a couple of hours and go back with a fresh mind, we are all with you on this, can’t wait until your next vid, stay safe and don’t stress. ✌️👍🤟🏼🚐🚐
I am enjoying the van build series! Keep up the good work on both the van and your channel! You inspired me to get out and start going on little adventures in my SUV. Thanks Will! -Kayla from USA
If you decide to install a Diesel heater you will have to drill two holes in the floor for the exhaust and air intake hoses. Probably best to do it before laying the flooring.
You're doing great 👍 pat your self on the back every time you've done a job. Any small mistakes you think you may of made are just learning curves. Change that perspective and you'll worry less. If a jobs worth doing its worth doing well. 🥇
Love seeing the progress. A suggestion for the build, spread the weight of u plan to have the kitchen/working area behind the driver then have the batteries on the other side. Also get t lithium batteries if u plan using solar, more money but will increase power production
Don't forget you'll need to cut a couple of larger holes in the floor for a diesel heater, if you plan on using one. Also remember that you need heat resistant sealant around the exhaust pipe hole for the heater.
Instead of MIG welding to plug the 125+ holes in my van floor, I will use this technique. Makes sense. Quick mix and putty knife and we're in business.
Mate..I'm only just starting the same van as you, sound deadening and celotex later and I'm soooo stressed already!! Join the club..🙄😂 Got three sky lights to stick in next...omg!!!!
Are you going to reuse the original ply on the floor - if you get some 1/2 insulation and the put it over the top it’ll fit nicely, save you time and money - might also be an idea to lay out your electrical set up beforehand so you can put the wiring down before the insulation 👍
I always look forward to a new video dude! Your little comments like "Don't ask me to come and seal your bathroom, as it will look rubbish" always make me chuckle 😅 I like the modesty of your DIY skills as you seem to be doing pretty darn well! I wouldn't know where to start with a project like this 🤘💪
Only sand down the sharp parts and I can't wait to see the finished project - Can I suggest a little subscriber only competition? How about letting us name the Fiat!
Yoooo you always seem to do awesome videos keep them coming n keep up the good work on your videos and channel I always enjoy your videos everytime you upload them 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I totally understand when you see the empty van and start thinking this needs doing and this and this etc. I'd be the same but it looks like you've got a plan there, Will ;) And it will be ready when it's ready. 😎👍
There's no rush, I bought my tranny back in September, plyed the floor and the sides, made a couple of storage trunks then found that I could put my sleeping bag on the floor so there's where I paused. I've not done anything to it since other than go places.
I would have thought some holes are good for breathability and drainage, also when using jb weld, ive seen others doing 2 straight lines of it to get equal mix, then blending the 2 lines..
I'm still sceptical about the sideways bed size? Can you stretch arms out and touch each side, your outstretched arms is near enough equivalent length to your height some say..
And while I think of it, I didn't screw through the van floor. I glued battens down and screwed into them so I didn't puncture the metal. This could be a good way or it may be a bad way of doing things, I don't know - all I wanted was not to risk introducing rust. Maybe someone could put me straight on it.
Interesting to see how meticulous you are with the van build prep, wouldn't have guessed you be based on your previous Ford minivan "camper." That's the way to go though, hopefully you'll live in there until you hit your 40s or later!
Paused at 0:46 Whatever "repair" that floor may need, this is not the tutorial for me and my crusty rusty '09 retired HVAC van. I think I probably just need to take it to a body shop. LOL
My wife and I have been working towards getting a van to convert, but I can't believe how much vans have gone up, rediculas. Going to wait until the new trend calms down. Ps great vid
My wife works in a carehome and i thort it be a good idea to get a van and take her and our dog away so she can get some well deserved rest, I'm so proud, but we will wait as price's will come down when people can get abroad. Thanks Paul dilly and Amanda, Cornwall

Can we get more videos in one week than just one?

Great job! It will turn out nice. Can I suggest you check out leave her wild. She is also doing a bus conversion.
Don't post single video a week...upload 2-3 videos every week...
Laying here hungover like I am every Sunday waiting for will to drop a new vid and now I can finally relax
Haha glad I'm not the only one
After 14 minutes you're still lying there hungover and nothing to watch 🤦♂️
haha not sure if my videos will help with a hangover
If you get that overwhelmed feeling, split your tasks down into bundles of jobs, then each bundle has little sub jobs and tick them off as you go. I have MH issues and the lists approached really helps me when I get "that" feeling! Looking forward to more build videos!
Completely agree. The sense of achievement/relief when the list is finished is amazing too

We've just started our build and definitely feeling that overwhelmed feeling.

Thanks for the tips and advice, I'm going to use a rubber matt under as a subfloor to insulate and sound deaden

Hi from Texas, I am to old to take on such a great project but enjoy watching your video's. By the way J B weld are the best products I have used!
Cheers Frank, glad to hear you enjoy the videos
Loving the videos mate! I like seeing snippets on your Instagram, then seeing the full thing on here! Great work!
If you decide to install a Diesel heater you will have to drill two holes in the floor for the exhaust and air intake hoses. Probably best to do it before laying the flooring.
Great fun to follow the van built from the start. Thanks for posting! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
I'm loving your van build. Could have used some safety glasses though! Or gloves! Can't wait to see the rest of your videos.
You're doing great 👍 pat your self on the back every time you've done a job. Any small mistakes you think you may of made are just learning curves. Change that perspective and you'll worry less. If a jobs worth doing its worth doing well. 🥇

You should have applied the jb weld from the bottom of the van going upwards. But heck yeah dude nice job.
I was thinking this afterwards hah
Building a van is a learning curve and you seem to be getting along well! Good On Ya, Bro!
The learning process is a steep one so far hah

Hi will finally found a van at good price, now the fun starts. Ye ha. Paul from Cornwall
Instead of MIG welding to plug the 125+ holes in my van floor, I will use this technique. Makes sense. Quick mix and putty knife and we're in business.
1 upload a week feels like a month for me. i cant wait to see your van ready to hit the road
Mate..I'm only just starting the same van as you, sound deadening and celotex later and I'm soooo stressed already!! Join the club..🙄😂
Got three sky lights to stick in next...omg!!!!
You got this!
Are you going to reuse the original ply on the floor - if you get some 1/2 insulation and the put it over the top it’ll fit nicely, save you time and money - might also be an idea to lay out your electrical set up beforehand so you can put the wiring down before the insulation 👍
Install a small safe or safe place to store any valuables if needed.
Do it now before you install any floor or wall panelling.
Good idea, something I've not considered
You'll get there Will! Just keep on keeping on. Love the content!
Plenty of opportunities for using the old 'goosfraba'! ;))
Excellent video and looking good so far looking forward when you start with the flooring etc

Only sand down the sharp parts and I can't wait to see the finished project - Can I suggest a little subscriber only competition? How about letting us name the Fiat!
Thats a good idea

Great content,,WHERE ARE YA WILL.🤣👍🤣

Subbed. Love the channel Will
This thing will be epic when finished, do you have any plans of what you want inside?
Currently no hah, a few test runs I think are required
Great work Will! - so sound deadening is next, what about insulation?
Sound deadening and then the insulation in a few weeks i think
There's no rush, I bought my tranny back in September, plyed the floor and the sides, made a couple of storage trunks then found that I could put my sleeping bag on the floor so there's where I paused. I've not done anything to it since other than go places.
Yep I think this will be a slow process but one that doesnt need to be rushed
Hi will loving the video project build van conversion when are you going to put the windows in ?
Hopefully this week I should get them in
@@WillsWhereabouts great stuff look forward to next video have a good week
You will achieve your goal
In time I'm sure hah
I hope others saw the angry white-moustachioed ghouls at 9:15 haha
Oh boy, only if someone gave me a second chance like that..... One lucky van this.
Well done mate. You could have done with a smaller brush. Less paint, more efficient. Doing a great job though.
And while I think of it, I didn't screw through the van floor. I glued battens down and screwed into them so I didn't puncture the metal. This could be a good way or it may be a bad way of doing things, I don't know - all I wanted was not to risk introducing rust. Maybe someone could put me straight on it.
I wonder if you could put under floor heating in a van
Good
Can’t believe you painted before filling the holes 🧐........... 😂
Not the most exciting jobs, but worth doing. I imagine you will enjoy working on it more as the build goes on👍
Interesting to see how meticulous you are with the van build prep, wouldn't have guessed you be based on your previous Ford minivan "camper." That's the way to go though, hopefully you'll live in there until you hit your 40s or later!
What’s the name of that sealer you used? I didn’t catch the name?
