    Well another 2 steps forward and 10 steps back in today's ASMR van build video. After ticking off some jobs that needed to be done on the build to prepare for the next steps I made a massive F*** up as I drilled through my lighting cables, leaving me with no lights in the van.

Funnily enough I was actually in the New Forest last week when I made this mistake but have now come back and managed to reconnect the cables and all is well again. I go down to the New Forest quite regularly so would love to head over to your workshop at some point and check it out!

    I would take the cladding down on that section. I would also think about putting all the wires in more plastic covering/trunking and running it down the side panels of the van and not the roof. You’ve got to do your roof build yet, so move all them wires down one side of the van, this in turn will make it easier for you to access it later on to fix issues.

    Hi Will
    If you pull out your lights from the ceiling and find which 2 lights the broken cable is between. Or use the multimeter to find where power is and isn’t to your lights then if you get a mouse wire set. It’s for pushing or pulling cables through cavities etc. They are only about £5 for the set. It means you won’t need to remove any of cladding. Just feed another cable between the 2 lights and reconnect. If you’re not sure message me and I’m happy to talk you through it on the phone. I’m an electrician and an engineer also on my third van build so it’s professional advice.

    Hopefully you have enough slack wire to pull each side through the hole and join the wires back, even if the wires weren't near drill zone, the twisted wool could have dragged them into the vortex, try and drill the second part of the big hole from the inside if you need the same size hole all the way through, as it looks neater than if your hole is drilled all the way through from top, I always thought you lived in London, but that looks more like the country, I guess your folks home as you know where everything is and have free roam of sheds and pets know you well

Or how about installing another pot light in the same spot allowing you to cut a bigger hole. Better still , if you are considering cupboards in that spot just cut the hole bigger and patch it with a cover after you rewire.

    get back on the roof, pull both ends of the wire through the hole, small JB, poke it all back in and forget it.

      Thats th way....when the cables are long enough...only a few cm....

      @vilhelmgrasbonde 2 роки тому

      That’s what I would do as well. If the wires not long enough then you can always just splice a new one to both ends.

      Sadly not possible as the cables are taped and under all the insulation and vapour barrier so I've had to take of some of the cladding which you'll see in the next video. Main thing is problem fixed and solved!

    Easy fix if you can get to both ends, pull them out of hole, strip wire, heat shrink over wires, solder them , then pull heat shrink over joint, then shrink put back say nowt

    You’re lucky you have the cables to hand. Clean cut them, trim them and heat shrink them together… easy 20min fix mate 👍

      This can be done through the hole you have cut in the van roof too. No need to take any of your cladding down.

    Either pull the cable up though the hole. Tape it up and all good to go. Or you will e to take some cladding down. At least it's near one side so not so bad. Good luck

    Cut the cable and add conectors on each end of the cables so you can just plug it back in. Go from the roof just pull the cable through the hole you made add the connectors. Or strip the white housing off and solder it back together cover with heat shrink. We have all done it Will just take a step back deep breath dont panic. I put a screw through a water pipe when i worked on site plummer wasn't to happy but it happenes 👍

    Gently push them to the side so they're still accessible, finish that hole for your antenna and as others have said, splice them. Make sure the splice isn't too tight and in the way of your cables though. Extend it if need be so there's slack and push them out of the way.
