I work at the Grand Canyon for the National Park Service. I always thought this would be an amazing spot for a Fallout game. I don't know if there is enough here, to warrent a full game, maybe a DLC, of some kind. I always thought it would be neat to see a National Park Service (NPS) survivor faction. The Village area and Desert View definitely looks very pre-war Fallout.
Protectrons weren't introduced until Bethesda's Fallout 3. But yeah, my first thought was Protectron too. :) Since this was old Black Isles I'd guess it was probably a Mr. Handy or Sentrybot, or maybe something entirely new.
josh sawyer used to post by the name of rope kid on the somethingawful forums with bits about the games development, sometimes taking advice on how to implement certain systems. he was really involved with the fallout fan community at the time and it was really cool to get a behind the scenes peek at what would be the next fallout. sadly the game never panned out but i remember being really hyped on it
Sadly, there's not a whole lot to say. They were planning a fairly robust vehicle system for Van Buren, complete with multiple vehicles and trains, but we didn't get a whole lot of details. I might do a little standalone video on it in the future, but it'd make for a relatively short one. :)
One of the only good Fallout UA-cam channels. Every time I watch one of these videos, it bums me out more and more. Van Buren would have been THE best Fallout game, I’m sure of it.
I have been to the North Rim and I have to say. It is 200 times better than any other part of the canyon. while it is closed during the winter, It hands down has the best view and the lodge has great views, comfy chairs, and good food.
Such a shame this was cancelled. Every piece of info I hear sounds amazing, love the idea of the prewar government removing landmark status from famous sites just for a bit more profit or resources, very in character
I mean Bethesda's Fallout 3 didn't contradict anything from Van Buren, it was New Vegas that buried it, and the original VB devs specifically said they had no desire to recreate the game
This has been a great video Rectcon, looking forward to your next video. Is there any way anyone can this of that the events of FVB could be made canon with as little lore changes to make it fit into current lore (FNV in this case)
I mean, New Vegas did essentially confirm at least some elements of Van Buren were canon. The war between the NCR and BOS, Caesar's Legion, the Powder Gangs, Arcade Gannon, and so on. But there are also other elements like BOMB-001 and Hoover Dam that have essentially been rendered non-canon by stuff shown in FONV and FO76.
@@steelbear2063 In what ways do you think it could work as a sequel? I have ideas of what a Mr House victory would be like, would you like to hear them and what are your thoughts on any of the events after the ending?

Hello there Retcon I loved all Lore videos for Fallout Van buren and especially Phoenix Point You are a great narrator. By the way Is it alright if you branch out into more General Fallout lore starting with of course Vault-Tec.
I might poke at some other Fallout stuff in the future, but I'm trying to avoid anything that would require me to brush up on the newer Bethesda-written lore. I just... didn't really enjoy the story stuff in FO4 or FO76. :(

No, I have a partial script, but the project ended up getting sidetracked by the station's inclusion in FO76 in a fashion that basically undid the main plot of Van Buren. I do intend to finish it someday, though. Just need to work myself back up to it. And ignore FO76. :)
@@RetconRaider I’m ignoring a lot of the post FO2 games. That’s why I’ve been bingeing your series. Keep it up. I got inspired to draw Van Buren fan art because of this series.
In Van Buren he was going to be called the Hanged Man, because you'd first encounter him hanging from a noose but still alive. They changed his nickname to the Burned Man when they retooled him for New Vegas. :)

Retcon i listen to your van buren series when i go to bed at least once a week
Merry Christman Retcon Raider. Thanks for another great video
Pretty crazy how much we actually know about Van Buren.

A great Christmas present! Thank you Retcon
Can't wait to watch this, van buren's grand canyon mutants always intrigued me
yaay a van buren video :D
Best series on fallout
Thanks for still pumping this out!
Hell yes another Van Buren video.
Wait, a vehicle? Can you go into some more detail about those?

Running a Van Buren storyline in the fallout rpg will be so much easier thanks to you.
If only this is what Bethesda copied rather than just regurgitating the most iconic elements

I always say that with a few minor tweaks Van Buren could actually work as the *sequel* to New Vegas.

Hey Retcon Raider. I can't find your video on B.O.M.B.-001. Did you make a final video on this series?

Absolutely breaks my heart to hear what happened to the Grand Canyon. But it's a harsh reality in Fallout that I need to accept.
WWHAAATTTTTT?!?!?! :D
Major Robert Briggs? Sounds like a Twin Peaks reference lol
Wan't Joshua nicknamed "the burned man" not "the hanged man"?
