I know there are many many references of VB inFONV, but I also think Beth took many of the basic ideas found in VB and used them in FO3. BOS moving east to the Maxon Bunker and building relations with the locals is what you find also in FO3, even the outcast where mirrored from the circle of steel. Trogs in VB and FO3, also where they got the idea of stealth armor.
True, Bethesda has been slowly borrowing elements of the Van Buren documents over their past few games - and obviously, Obsidian made heavy use of it in Fallout: New Vegas. It's possible that they also used stuff that we just don't know about. While we do have access to a lot of material in the documents that were leaked, there's still a ton of additional material that we've never gotten to see!
I wish they had finished and published VB. Correct me if I'm wrong but the back story to Van Buren was after the Oil Rig was destroyed, the Enclave nuked SF. I know Xian was an exchange student in VB and in FONV there are many NCR soldiers who are oriental and with oriental names. I think many assumed that SF was annexed by the NCR but i don't think so. Most, if not all, locations from VB, FO1&2 were referenced in FONV except for SF. Also in FONV, Mr House looks for the Platinum Chip for years in a location just south of SF and he never was made aware that civilization existed in this area. It would have been interesting to see FO4(BIS version) made. What the hell were the Legion doing shipping Super Mutants East? Thanks for the VB videos, brings the story to life. Very nice.
I bet these Trogs inspired the mutated hillbillies that you encounter at Point Lookout in Fallout 3. I take it that the sabotage attack in 2077 was an event separate from the Chinese attack that unleashed the New Plague Virus (I assume so)?. Also if the Hei-Gui agents were defeated then how did they escape with the New Plague Virus and get pursued at Denver that accidently unleashed the New Plague? Oh did the Van Buren documents mention anything about the Brotherhood of Steel attacking the NCR's federal reserve at the Boneyard sparking an inflation crisis and the NCR to change their currency from a gold back currency to a water backed currency (this is in the official lore happening before New Vegas)? Is the Miracle Wheat found at Hoover Dam found in the farms Downtown? I knew about the Governor but I forgot his name, and I didn't know that Dodge was a Lieutenant-Governor or that he was originally going to the Governor of Black Canyon. I also didn't know that the Black Canyon prison was going to be near Hoover Dam as a work-release prison before it was cut from the game, or that the player was incarcerated there before he/she was imprisoned at Tibbets. I didn't know about the biological research lab at Hoover Dam, or that it was called Sub Level 1C or that it had to do with Poseidon Oil or the Enclave, but I knew that was where the New Plague Virus came from. I didn't know that Sub Level 1-C was created when they found high levels of radioactive isotopes at Lake Mead which was then connected to the high number of mutated creatures in the area. I also didn't know that Sub Level 1-C was tasked with studying these mutated creatures to make bio-weapons to destroy entire ecologies for the military to use against their enemies. I didn't know that the Chinese agents were called Hei-Gui or that was also the name of their stealth armour. I didn't know that the FEV virus was studied at Sub Level 1C until the Hei-Gui attack made them move it to the Mariposa Military Base in this alternate timeline lore. I also didn't know that the Hei-Gui objective was to infiltrate and destroy the lab before the weapons they were researching could be used against China or that one of the bombs that they planted went off early alerting the base and starting a gunfight. I didn't know that the attack damaged Hoover Dam's generators and FEV mutants were roaming the lab. I also didn't know that the attack had Sub Level C-1 being sealed shut, trapping two Hei-Gui agents and four scientists inside. I didn't know that Hoover Dam had settlers before the NCR arrived, that they survived attacks from raiders too, or that they welcomed the NCR with open arms. I knew that a different version of Trogs were at this Hoover Dam, but I didn't know that they were mutated backwoods hillbillies that survived the Great War and the years afterwards by living in caves and didn't like people but made a deal with Governor Dodge to maintain the two working generators in the utility tunnels as well as live in the baseline. I didn't know that the NCR was aware of the Agricola facility at Burham Springs either. I also forgot that Dodge was a councilman who wanted nothing to do with Hoover Dam and the NCR's eastward expansion and was forced to take part or be charged with treason. I didn't know that like in the official lore Caesar's Legion attacked Hoover Dam in this non canon lore too and damaged a large portion of the dam and making it uninhabitable. I didn't know that all this happened before the NCR Brotherhood War and I forgot that the NCR being at Hoover Dam was one of the main reasons for the war starting. I didn't know that it was the Brotherhood of Steel that regularly attacked Hoover Dam (I thought it was the Circle of Steel or Raiders). I didn't know that the NCR had a train to supply and connect Hoover Dam to the Republic back west. I forgot of the shortage of ammo Dodge and his men were facing. I knew of the alternate McLafferty but I forgot that her name in Van Buren was Ailis. I knew that she supplied and profited from both sides of the conflict but I didn't know that the people she traded with to solve Dodge's ammo shortage was the Ciphers or that the other side she dealt with was the Brotherhood of Steel. I didn't know that Governor Dodge had the damaged parts of Hoover Dam be cannibalized for things to trade or that it stopped when they realized that they were causing too much structural damage to the dam. I didn't know that the Ciphers had a source of coal but lacked a reliable potassium nitrate and sulfur source, or that Hoover Dam's water purification system was inefficient and unreliable but generated large quantities of byproducts to make gunpowder, and that it led to a trade agreement between the Ciphers and Hoover Dam. I also didn't know that the Circle of Steel was behind Crimson Caravan supplying Hoover Dam and the Brotherhood of Steel with the hope that Dodge and Brixley would destroy each other or that they sent Nancy Haggard to kill Governor Dodge either. I didn't know that the conflict has made some people leave this Hoover Dam, making things harder for those who stayed to maintain things, but it makes sense. I didn't know of the guarded gates at The Rim or the monster infested lake their either. I also didn't know that The Rim were for the rich and important or that the player could get a place there and in Downtown. I also didn't know that the Followers of the Apocalypse ran a school, an engineering workstation, and medical facility at Hoover Dam either. I also didn't know that the player could plant enough C-4 on the damaged part of the dam to destroy it killing themselves and getting a bad ending to the game or that NCR soldiers guard the weakened part of the dam and would kill anyone who gets near. I never heard of Police Chief Ralph Peoples before. I knew Freida Van Graff was in Van Buren but I didn't know that she ran the gun shop at Hoover Dam. I forgot the name of the bars at Hoover Dam. I didn't know that an elevator was the only way to get between The Rim and Downtown. I knew Otto Steed was at Hoover Dam but I didn't know that he was at the downtown engineering building running the settlement water purification system. I also never heard of the Hock it to Bob pawn store before either. I didn't know that corn and wheat was grown downtown. I didn't know that the player would have to deal with this version of Trogs to explore deeper into this alternate Hoover Dam. I didn't know that the leader of these Trogs was called Billy Bob. I didn't know that the Scum Pits was where the generators was originally placed and that the green goo was contaminated water from Lake Mead. I forgot of the large ants and their queen at the Scum Pits, but I didn't know that they were intelligent albino ants. I also didn't know about the giant leeches and the giant albino rats in the Scum Pits either. I didn't know of Sub Level C-1's electronically locked security hatch, or that it was crawling with Floaters and Centaurs. I also didn't know of the rewards that the player can get by clearing out Sub Level C-1like access to use the lab and a functional pre war computer with pre war knowledge on it, and possibly reverse engineer the Hei-Gui stealth suits. Sorry this is so long.
Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish you got the chance to play this game. I mean, seriously, it sounds cool. At least a Demo.
There is a tech demo actually. On No Mutants Allowed you can find it.
I know a lot of stuff regarding Caesar’s Legion was cut but a video covering what we know of them would be cool

I think the Enclave's orbital kill sat and the ending of Broken Steel is also a reference to Van Buren. It's too similar to be a coincidence.

Wow I just found you and I already love your videos. I subscribed
Thanks, Judermits!
I love how the secret sub-level is called "Satan's Asshole".
Finally!Hover dam!
