Zach Novosad true but how often do you see a lift kit on a Ranger? And they're already slow enough and I'm pretty sure a 6" lift and 35s wouldn't even allow it to get up to legal speed... Just sayin'
Hey Chris, when you wired the additional 3 switches, are you going to jump them into the same fuse box slot 17, or does each switch need it's own fuse slot?
It's better to use a different slot. The slot he is using provides 12V even when the vehicle is off, but you may want to use a different slot for something that doesn't need 12V when the vehicle is off or even more, requires a fuse of a different rating.
When I took class to get my electrical degree in after HVAC. The most repeated thing would be able to draw a wiring diagram and understand. Good job you doing it more than most people
Use star washers under your ground points. Better grounds. And match the fuse rating for what draws the energy. Get that fuse box fuse down to a 2 amp since the relay only draws millie amps.
Chris, I absolutely LOVE watching your vids!! They're super informative, and you cover every detail of what you're doing and why you're doing it, which, in turn, answers ALL of the questions that come along the way. Thank you for taking the time to teach us!! Keep doing what you're doing, man.
Wish i had watched this video first, would of saved hours of head scratching watching others attempt but failing.Great explanation, thanks for making it so clear.
While I probably won’t be installing a lightbar. I found that the information in your videos should be useful for other purposes. Thanks again for sharing your experience & thoughts.
Again, another great how-to project vid. Way to go, Chris. On a small note, I tend to shop for switches. If you're anything like me, those lighted switches can be a bit distracting when driving at night. I re-did a 5 switch project after figuring out that it was hard to keep my peripheral vision from taking my focus off the road. Shop around enough & you should be able to find low illuminated panel switches that make a world of difference. But that's just my take.
Great vid as always and love the whole channel! Just thought I'd mention something as I'm an electrician and the switch wiring made me go 'what?' for a sec. If the 12v feed from the fusebox was in the centre pin of a standard (no LED) switch, it would ground the battery in one of the two switch positions, blowing the fuse. In a bog standard toggle switch pins 1 and 2 are connected in one position, pins 2 and 3 are connected in the other. So if you used such a switch with the connections suggested here it would not work and would be very dodgy, especially if plugged in without a fuse. I did a quick google and see the correct pinout of the LED switches usually used in automotive is as in the video, the internal circuitry is wired for that connection scheme. But just in case someone thought that 'this is how all switches with 3 pins are wired' and tried to use another sort of switch I thought I'd point out that the standard config of a toggle switch would lead to blown fuses (hopefully at best). General rule, just double check the pinouts and make sure you know what goes where and don't connect the battery to ground ;) No fault with the vid, just thought I'd add in that extra info!
Ozan Gültekin I wasn't questioning the quality. I have a cheap 50$ 24" for a reverse bar that is really bright, eventually the LEDs will go out a lot quicker than Rigid.. Only reason why I know a screw over 10" is because I read that somewhere recently.
Thank you so much! this was a great very instructive video. I have looked at loads of wiring related vids and yours is the only one that meets my Virgo standards for detail and professionalism. Hubby and I are the proud parents of a new tractor and she needs better lighting so wiring up some auxiliary LED'S will be a priority. Thank again.... warmly, Gillian
lol when i put light bars in my grille we just grounded it and took the other wire into the cab and it plugs into the cigarette lighter, simple but it works out great, especially because i hate wiring and electronics
All Day EDCers works out nicely, for a person who doesnt understand wiring and electronics well its perfect, no worrys about fuses and other stuff, just the positive wire plugging in works great
Awesome work you are doing, I'm getting all envious, and want to do the same to my car. One question; wouldn't it have been nice to have run the wiring inside the metal bars / roof rail, rather than in a plastic tube zip-tied to the rail?
Bit of extra effort could have seen all the wires from the light bar in the metal framework. That's what I was expecting form such a guy as talented as Chris. But that small thing aside, what an absolutely amazing project. Bravo that man
+Brennan Callan As someone who holds 27 college degrees and 3 WWE titles, it's cute to see someone throwing out their degree count in a UA-cam conversation. If getting a degree teaches you nothing else, it's that being clear and concise in your communications with others is of paramount importance, as knowing how to communicate lets you translate that giant warehouse of knowledge into something you can relate to others (hopefully without coming across as condescending!). Being needlessly wordy or skilled in nitpicking the works of others is not the same thing as being intelligent.
Even though I’ve almost watched your videos, I’m back watching a older video to remind myself how to do something again. Way cool thanks for the content.

best straightforward wiring video on youtube for a 12v light and switch system thank you!
Makes me wanna do that to my truck
TowMan127 ahh yes please
Do it
TowMan127 same here
l
JUST DO IT!
Instead of zip ties use a few cushion clamps. They'll last longer. Looks cleaner too.
I’m glad your channel exists... it’s like my very own how to be crafty dude manual... thank you for sharing your knowledge
Put a 6 inch lift kit on project night light and 35 inch tires
austin bob calm down its only a Mazda...
and a ford you know...
+WHOS YO DADDY 8 it's the exact same thing as a ford ranger
Zach Novosad true but how often do you see a lift kit on a Ranger? And they're already slow enough and I'm pretty sure a 6" lift and 35s wouldn't even allow it to get up to legal speed... Just sayin'
+WHOS YO DADDY 8 a 6 inch lift maybe yeah. But a 3 inch lift and 31s would look good.
Hey Chris, when you wired the additional 3 switches, are you going to jump them into the same fuse box slot 17, or does each switch need it's own fuse slot?
Also do they get their own relay
It's better to use a different slot. The slot he is using provides 12V even when the vehicle is off, but you may want to use a different slot for something that doesn't need 12V when the vehicle is off or even more, requires a fuse of a different rating.
I’m mechanically inclined but not electrically inclined. Been watching tons of videos and yours is by far the best and simple. Thanks Chris!!
I love the look of the mount! Great video man.
SharperAdam Thanks a lot!
13:32, 8 wires are actually enough for 7 switches, since you only need one 12v wire from the fuse box
So multiple switches can come from the one fused power?
dgtlionbarger yes because the wire coming out is the only thing needed to differentiate the switches
Im pretty sure he put 8 wires for 4 switches to make the switches light up
Only if he uses relays in all of the new lights
When I took class to get my electrical degree in after HVAC. The most repeated thing would be able to draw a wiring diagram and understand. Good job you doing it more than most people
Hey Chris, any chance of doing a wiring tutorial on an audio system? Like subwoofers and amps
Use star washers under your ground points. Better grounds. And match the fuse rating for what draws the energy. Get that fuse box fuse down to a 2 amp since the relay only draws millie amps.
Incorrect. Although the relay draws very little power, the fuse is for the power feed from the battery, through the relay and to the light bar.
Chris, I absolutely LOVE watching your vids!! They're super informative, and you cover every detail of what you're doing and why you're doing it, which, in turn, answers ALL of the questions that come along the way. Thank you for taking the time to teach us!! Keep doing what you're doing, man.
8 people are mad they have no vehicle.

How can someone give the thumbs down on this?!

plain simple assholeeesss
austin sullivan stfu
i cant believe it look that good ! nice work
Thanks a lot!
Wish i had watched this video first, would of saved hours of head scratching watching others attempt but failing.Great explanation, thanks for making it so clear.
Im glad I came across this vid bro it’s gonna help me a lot plus save me some bucks I need to wire some light pods and light bars on my Polaris Ranger
Excellent job I loved it
While I probably won’t be installing a lightbar. I found that the information in your videos should be useful for other purposes. Thanks again for sharing your experience & thoughts.
Glad ithelpful

Was I the only one smiling throughout the video at the end?
+Nick6Michael Haha, that is awesome and no you werent! I was smiling too! It was awesome!
+ChrisFix Awesome job very good video
Where can I buy the olastic tube?
Again, another great how-to project vid. Way to go, Chris. On a small note, I tend to shop for switches. If you're anything like me, those lighted switches can be a bit distracting when driving at night. I re-did a 5 switch project after figuring out that it was hard to keep my peripheral vision from taking my focus off the road. Shop around enough & you should be able to find low illuminated panel switches that make a world of difference. But that's just my take.
Woah that makes a huge difference!! Nice job on that
Officer: *"I wonder what's this red button do?"*
*Dumb ways to die...*
General rule, just double check the pinouts and make sure you know what goes where and don't connect the battery to ground ;) No fault with the vid, just thought I'd add in that extra info!
this light bar costs $1000... damn
Yeah, I'm sure you get what you paid for but its not the right price for my project. They have cheaper led bars out there.
+No Name Rigid industries puts a screw every 10"
+Chris Maroney knockoff or real, thats bright as a welding machine lol
Ozan Gültekin I wasn't questioning the quality. I have a cheap 50$ 24" for a reverse bar that is really bright, eventually the LEDs will go out a lot quicker than Rigid.. Only reason why I know a screw over 10" is because I read that somewhere recently.
+Chris Maroney i know u werent questioning it. oh and also, all LEDs will last about the same i think.
well worth it, props on the project bro
Thank you!
Thank again.... warmly, Gillian
id buy a busted car just to fix it the chris fix way
lol when i put light bars in my grille we just grounded it and took the other wire into the cab and it plugs into the cigarette lighter, simple but it works out great, especially because i hate wiring and electronics
So you just wired it to the cigarette lighter wiring or you used a plug?
Plug, i insert a plug into the cigarette lighter which is attached right to the light bars via a long wire
Cool, and it works like a charm?
All Day EDCers works out nicely, for a person who doesnt understand wiring and electronics well its perfect, no worrys about fuses and other stuff, just the positive wire plugging in works great
Benjamin Masters so you just wire the positive to a plug that goes into the cigarette lighter, then grounded the light bar to your frame?
Insanely helpful video. And I can't believe I'm watching it 7 years later. Thanks👍
You're going to have a hell of a time changing your battery
True
my exact thought
Well, there actually *_is_* only _one_ Pos. & _one_ Neg. on a car battery, so I don't really see any 'problem' . . . . .
I know
Nah, the alternator is always feeding power to the battery. So the battery will last as long as usual.
Awesome work you are doing, I'm getting all envious, and want to do the same to my car.
One question; wouldn't it have been nice to have run the wiring inside the metal bars / roof rail, rather than in a plastic tube zip-tied to the rail?
I thought that too lol
No because then you wouldn't be able to replace the wiring easily and it would also be easier for water to get into the bars.

I’ve learned more about automotive maintenance and repair from your videos than I did in my shop classes in school.
So bright it's ridiculous !!!
+KastaRules Turns night time, into daytime!
+ChrisFix It really is impressive! Nice video as always, master.
He said on the first video, " This is not a cheap ebay light. "
26:50
Look like a scene from the walking dead series 😅
Bit of extra effort could have seen all the wires from the light bar in the metal framework. That's what I was expecting form such a guy as talented as Chris. But that small thing aside, what an absolutely amazing project. Bravo that man
Drink every time he says crimp
+Brennan Callan you seem very interested in Chris
+Brennan Callan you spend too much time writing your replies
+Brennan Callan As someone who holds 27 college degrees and 3 WWE titles, it's cute to see someone throwing out their degree count in a UA-cam conversation. If getting a degree teaches you nothing else, it's that being clear and concise in your communications with others is of paramount importance, as knowing how to communicate lets you translate that giant warehouse of knowledge into something you can relate to others (hopefully without coming across as condescending!). Being needlessly wordy or skilled in nitpicking the works of others is not the same thing as being intelligent.
I'm a little late to the party here, but take a shot every time +Brennan Callan uses quotations...

Super Light in the Night!
Good Job!
It's not a light bar... It's a collapsed sun!
Fire Crow's Workshop Hahaha, I have actually found a way to harness the energy from the sun and created a light bar!
Now I know how to put a light bar when I get a truck, it going to be the first project done to it. Thanks for the videos.
Awesome!!! That is what I like to hear!
Its 2018 and I’m going to use this method for my subie light bar! Thanks Chris...top notch channel!
Even though I’ve almost watched your videos, I’m back watching a older video to remind myself how to do something again. Way cool thanks for the content.
