After installing mine, I have BiG PROBLEMS and lots of check engine and error lights telling me to take it to my dealer. And it has to be towed there. I can't drive it. There must be something that I received for the $700 that is defective, such as the ethanol sensor or computer, or there may be something about the wiring process that Chris left out that we needed to know about. I am asking eFlex Fuel to either get me someone who can get it working or allow me to return it. I don't have $700 to just throw away like that. I have to be sent parts that are new, fully tested, and known to work as intended. Anything less, anything defective, I have zero tolerance for.
I think the most shocking thing in this video is the 5 years later Chris not only still has that crappy Del Sol he bought for $300 but, that it still runs well and looks clean.
Looks are deceiving. That car is far from clean which is why I got it for $300 lol. The suspension is good and engine is decent haha. Basically anything I’ve fixed so far is good. The rest is not good
@@Nyitemare having a 97 Civic I'm using as a project and will be swapping the whole motor soon, seeing the Del Sol here being used with the E85 kit brought me some positivity to get this kit after the swap.
Hi Chris 3 years ago I buyed my first car for 500$ and I learned how to work on him thanks to you. Two days ago I buyed my dream car Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.6 jtdm. Thank you so much for all your hard work and fact that you teach us how to do things in our cars..
I'm a 100% sure that you have a large part of the evolvement of the level of perfection the car community has these days. I truly appreciate you and the *ART* you are creating with these videos . thank god for ChrisFix
Your level of doing things correctly is astounding. I’m kind of surprised you didn’t pause to get a degree in engineering to make sure it was engineered correctly. You’re my hero
Chris Fix your Awesome! You are one of my best Mentors, thank you so much. I just did my first oil change on my dads only car, it was a great experience, I bought the tools, and I cleaned the garage and set up my workstation, I am 14 & going to start flipping some cars and know I will learn a LOT! But luckily your videos will stay along the way and be my mentor while Im working on them. Thank you again!
@@philwhite5815 I agree, there are so many things on a car to learn that I can apply to different mechanical machines as well, all I have it do is understand it.
Something you can do is smaller maintenance tasks such as brake pads and maybe fluid flushes (ChrisFix has videos for those too) for people you know like your friends' parents. That can help you save up to buy a car to flip.
Trivia: The "cheap car fuel" alternative in most of Europe is LPG, which has similar characteristics as mentioned by you on the E85 (that is, is cheap, has high octane rating which makes it great for high-compression engines, is more environmentally friendly by being made from simpler hydrocarbonates (mostly propane and butane, whereas gasoline is pentan and some higher fractions) but also has a slightly less energy density than classic gasoline which causes slightly higher fuel consumption). It is a gas though, so it needs a separate high-pressure gas tank (usually installed in the trunk or in the place of the spare wheel) and there are no jerry-cans for that, but also is not affected by humidity and tends to mix way better with air (gas/gas vs gas/liquid aerosol), especially at lower ambient temperatures. As for the cost, assuming 3.875 L per 1 US Gallon, and 3.00 PLN as an average price (based on my own observations), 1 US Gallon of LPG would cost ~11.36 PLN, which as of 4th August 2023 is about $2.82.
When I was researching for an idea, Methane, LP, and E85 all had about the same anti-knock rating. For use in a higher compression engine, it came down to availability/cost for the energy potential you needed.
LPG has many issues, the LPG tank takes a lot of space in the trunk, the system is made in a garage and is in 90% of the cases not up to code, engine always goes bad after years of use on LPG due to the nature of the fuel - there is no lubrication as it is literally gas.
@@whogg My father's old car had an LPG system equipped and I remember there being a valve lubrication solution where you would put additional oil to lubricate the valves.
@@whogg There were some particular engines with valve seat problems. Some ford engines tend to have valve seat pitting around the time where LPG conversions were a big thing. And most people with LPG conversions blamed the fuel for it. The problem is normal gasoline driven cars had the same issue but nobody talked about it. It's like the same story with burning battery powered cars today. How many gasoline cars burned down by accident? Many more but nobody cares. But when a BEV burns down oh boy.... the entire world goes crazy. But you are right: There are many "not up to code shtboxes" out there that have been converted in a garage or an unskilled workshop that can be harmful to the engine or a potential hazard at the gas station. This LPG conversion kits that are up to spec have to be carefully set up and tuned to be a real replacement for gasoline. But most workshops don't have the experience with that kind of conversions. So it is better NOT to blame LPG for explosions at gas stations or damaged engines but the people who handle it wrong.
@@whogg valve lubrication is not a big deal on petrol or LPG. Only diesel fuel has enough lubrication properties but diesel fuel is injected directly into cylinders. I have 2nd gen Prius with LPG conversion installed by me and I drove 95k km just on LPG. Timer in LPG controller showed about 3000 hours on LPG and less than 180 hours on petrol just for preheating, and most of this time is late autumn, winter, early spring time with negative temperature. Maximum preheating time on petrol before switching to LPG is about 10 minutes when Ambien temperature is below -15 degrees Celsius
I'm floored that it was that easy to convert to e85. Not only did I not know that you could even do that, but the fact it's literally only sensors amazes me. Same gas tank, same injectors, same engine, same everything. Unreal. Also excellent video, you really make it look easy. Thank you for being the best car channel on UA-cam
Look into e85 fuel economy numbers. I have a flex fuel car, my Econ tanks on e85. Like regularly get a week and a half on a tank of 87, e85 I have to fill every 3-4 days. And where I’m at it’s like a dollar difference it doesn’t make it worth using
Cars made after 2000 are designed to run on E10, which is the “regular” gasoline sold nowadays at gas stations. E10 already contains 10% ethanol. So almost every car on the road today is compatible with ethanol. That’s why it’s not complicated to convert a gasoline car to run on E85. If the car was made after 2000, no need to make significant modifications to the fuel system (fuel lines, tank, …). Ethanol conversions are quite popular in some parts of Europe like France, where gasoline is very expensive (about $8.10 per gallon for gas, compared to $3.70 per gallon for E85). I’ve been using ethanol with an eFlexFuel kit since 2019 and drove 50k+ miles, haven’t had any issues.
Hi Chris, top video. My former mechanic taught me a lesson when attaching fuel hoses or any barbed fitting. When you’ve pushed the hose on, rotate it around the barb a little bit. Just a quick twist left and right. It helps the barb fitting go in 100% instead of the rubber pushing back a little bit. Don’t go mad, especially if you’re using a metal barb fitting. Helps you get that 110% you aim for 👍
I have been driving with eflexfuel conversion kits for years now and over 100 000miles on couple of different vehicles and everything has been working perfect, even in here arctic Finland. Great system!
Hey Chris, how's it going? I hope everything's fine. I'm from Brazil, and ethanol is extremely common to use in many vehicles here. The vast majority come factory-ready for flex fuel, running on both fuels, and always with impressive power gains when fueled with ethanol. It's the favorite fuel for tuners and performance enthusiasts, as it allows for higher boost pressures and keeps the temperature stable, reducing the risk of running too lean. The issue is that this fuel tends to cause injector clogging due to oxidation. So, we avoid using it in vehicles with direct injection. In these cases, for vehicles with direct injection, it's preferred to use Premium gasoline, as the maintenance cost for direct injectors is exorbitant, and once they get clogged, they can rarely be recovered. Greetings from Brazil, Chris. Keep being as awesome as always! Edit: Hi there, how are you doing? I saw someone commenting on finding it strange that ethanol causes oxidation and consequently clogs the injectors. The thing is, here in Brazil, our ethanol is hydrated, which means it contains a small percentage of water in its composition. Even though it's very low, it's still enough to cause oxidation in the medium and long term. Maintenance for imported cars here is not affordable for many of us, which is why many Brazilians choose not to do it. However, scheduled maintenance includes cleaning and servicing the injectors, which is why this happens so often here, especially in models with direct injection, where maintenance costs are much higher. Keep being awesome, everyone! Ah... and if I'm not mistaken, our ethanol has a standard of 100 octane and can go up to 103 octane.
Have not heard this before. Have quite a few friends who run E85 in direct injection cars with zero issues, at least in the USA with pump E85. Makes me wonder if there is a difference in the fuel, especially if it is E100 (pump E85 has some lubricants and other factors to make up the difference from Ethanol).
@@AutoAddicted427 I dont know how is the ethanol in the rest of the world, but here it have like 5% of water in the composition, probably that's the cause.
@@LucasOliveira-nr6ud The water in ours is because ethanol is a hygroscopic liquid, so it attracts water, “there's nothing we can do”. Anhydrous Ethanol remains 99% "pure" as there are processes in its storage to prevent contact with air and thus with water in the air. When mixed with gasoline, the ethanol's ability to absorb water from the air is reduced, but it will still have some.
I bought my kit about six months ago but haven’t had time to install it yet so it’s just sitting in it’s box. I think this video is just what I needed to get me motivated to get out there and install it! Thanks!!
Just installed this today. Video was perfect and it was very clear. When you slide the cables into the plastic holder and wait for the click sometimes it doesn’t click in if it’s not perfectly straight. Make sure they are straight! Works perfect!
As a Prius owner who’s very interested in MPG, would love to see a real world cost breakdown on MPG with the kit and without. Absolutely love your channel and content!!
I can't give you an accurate answer, but I'd suspect you'd see a drop on your overall MPG, but the overall cost to fill up the tank will decrease (depending on the cost per gallon in your area), resulting in a fairly even trade off between the two options, for fuel economy. The more noticeable differences will be in the amount of pollutants the car emits & the difference in power between the fuels.
As a Finn that experiences the -30 C winters I can also give one more tip to those that live through the cold winters. As to not struggle starting your car in the winter you want to also add some gasoline to the tank with the ethanol fuel to make a mixture that has more gas.
Our "E85" changes with the seasons in Minnesota. It's really E51-E85 depending on the month. My van will not start with E85 at -30C but 50/50 gasoline it's okay. I don't drive enough so still had summer E85 in the tank in January and could not start. Added 20L of E10 and it was okay and stayecd okay with winter blend.

It's been a while now since the last time I worked on my car, but every time I watched your video, it always made me feel inspired and made me want to do something with my car. Thank you for everything, Chris. You are the best!
It's honestly out of this world. Reminds me of how oil companies tried to bury EV's when they were first coming out too - even buying battery patents and intentionally sitting on them. I think a similar thing was seen with Ethanol. Thank you for spreading facts@@chrisfix!
Nice video! Here in Brazil, problably every car comes from the factory with this type of system. And every gas station throughout the country has ethanol as an option. A problem that I see when I use ethanol is that my car dont start right away when the weather is cold. Because of that, some older cars has like a small gas tank in the engine bay to put regular gas just do start the car.
I would suggest you to make a video on how to add Turbo/SuperChargers as they are very addictive to performance groups, and you are very trusted and reliable creator everyone appreciates your efforts and must be desperately waiting for such content.
I have same kit on my Mazda MX-3. I live near this company. As a Finn, it is nice to see an automotive product made in Finland. Highly skilled people and quality product!
We have factory Flex engines (Gasoline/Ethanol) in Brazil since 2003. Our Ethanol comes from sugarcane. In Brazil we have conversion to Natural Gas (CNG) too, most UBER/Taxi drivers do this conversion (gas is way cheaper).

Thanks Chris for the effort and hard work you put on every video, you make me learn a lot of cars and how to fix them. I don't have enough words to describe how thankfull I am
I know someone else will mention it: Those hose grip pliers work GREAT for wrangling up loose wires into the split-loom. Just grab the bunch of wires in the open part of the pliers, close em up lightly, and slip the head+wires INSIDE the loom, and then pull with a bit of force and they just ZIIIIIP right in! Sometimes pulling the loom is easier, sometimes the wires, sometimes the pliers can sliiiiiide along as well. Oh so satisfying.

Must be an appreciating video. Very well explained and your safety precautions and procedures are on different level. Well done Chris. Best luck try to keep up.💪
Hahaha ethanol is not better for the environment. Look at the subsidies that have caused massive deforestation and land damage. Also because it’s subsidized we feed it almost exclusively to cows, instead of having more grazing cows.
I'm seriously considering this for my own car. I drive a lot as it's part of my job. The gasoline costs ~2 euros per litre. Which is about $8.26 per gallon. :)
Its not better for the environment at all, engineering explained has a video on it where he actually comes to the conclusion that it uses more resources to "feed" the corn than the corn gives back in returm, making it even worse for the environment than regular fuel.
THANK YOU CHRIS! Where was this vid when I was trying to install the eFlex kit into my own car? Haha. Lots of comments from people that have not tried eFlexFuel or E85. I researched the heck out of this before getting a kit 1yr ago. I am in the USA and run E85 from the pumps. Here is my experience: E85 does not cause issues to the fuel system. This was my first concern. There is noticeably more HP/TQ on E85. You can feel the difference when driving, it feels more responsive than when on gas. I also notice my vehicle downshifts less on E85, I think because it is making more torque at driving RPMs. My MPG are not hugely impacted on E85. Yes, there is some dip, but in my case it is closer to 1-2MPG which makes E85 WAY cheaper to run than gas in my case. E85 does not cause issues to the fuel system. This was my first concern before I installed. Modern fuel systems are up for the job, there's been quite a bit of research here. There is a reason high HP cars run E85 - even the new Demon 170. I trust the compatibility check Chris mentioned, there is zero reason to think otherwise. I think that covers it. I don't mind different opinions but I did my research before getting eFlex and have had zero issues, so it's funny seeing the armchair analysts comment without any firsthand use. If anyone has any questions about the kit you can reply here and I will try to get back to you. Thank you again Chris! This one was a nice surprise.
I installed the kit as explained by Chris and the instructions that come with it, but I am getting multiple errors on my dash when I try to start the car. There is a brake issue (brake pedal goes to the floor) and there are multiple other errors telling me to take it to Toyota, so I am ready to return this for a refund unless eFlex Fuel has someone I can take it to (have to have it towed so it has to be nearby). I did everything exactly as Chris said, but something is wrong. It will connect to the app but there is no reading for ethanol % and I don't think fuel is getting to the engine. Also there is no confirmation in the app that each of the 4 cylinders are connected. Something is very wrong. I will call eFlex Fuel tomorrow and hope they can help me.
I have purchased this kit and installed it on the same car as per this video. I am doing some extended testing currently and have done about 4k miles of testing so far. I am testing mpg and cost along with other things. Will also do a oil test. Just some preliminary results, 50 mpg on 87($4.97) and 37 mpg on e85($2.99).
Promising numbers so far! I'm also curious if there are any effects to the rubber bladder inside the gas tank (or at least the one in the gen2). Always thought it would be cool to run e85 but have been nervous that it will somehow damage pieces of plastic or rubber within the fuel system that were not originally designed to contact such high ethanol content fuels.
Another great video Chris. You've been a great inspiration to many people. Thank you for helping the common man or woman teaching us the correct way an breaking everything you do down into simple terms that is easy to fallow and understand
It's been a long while Chris. Hope everything is going well with you. I heard in the comments that you're moving places. Are you and your family moving houses? Are you getting a different/"bigger garage? Super stoked for the future and your content Chris. I understand its a busy time and you have alot going on. Take care of yourself and take a vacation when you need to 😊💪💯. Don't burn yourself out.
Nice one 👍 have this kit installed on both my cars for about 3 years now and boy did it save me a lot of money, especially when the Ukraine war started and fuel prices exploded in Europe. I recently changed my fuel pump due to age and I have to say that the corrosion fears are greatly exaggerated, saw zero traces of it.
Sallam alikum Chris! Last time i saw any videos from you was 3 years ago. This video is so informative and straight to the point. Love it! you've improved your channel significantly. Keep it up!
⚠️Notice to everyone: If do you decide to do this you will want to do more research. For example, the ethanol in E85 tends to overtime to dry out rubber fuel lines which end up cracking and spilling fuel. So you'll want to replace those rubber lines. I would recommend watching other videos online as well Chris's 2nd video on ethanol when he comes out with it. P.S. Your videos are awesome Chris!
A reply from ChrisFix underneath another comment: "e85 doesnt cause issues on anything 2001 and newer. The gaskets/seal are mandated to worth with ethanol. Even 1992 and newer shouldnt have any problems but they were only supposed to run on e10."
No harm basically in any vehicles that has a electronic fuel injection. eFlexfuel has database and testing for over a decade converting different brand of vehicles and combined mileage is something over 2 billion miles world wide. So yea, it has been tested.
@chrisfix what a well explained installation!!! 👏👏👏 truly amazing work!!! I always learn a lot in your videos and I like it because it's fun to watch. Even though my car is already flex, almost every car here in Brazil is and every gas station has ethanol, gasoline and diesel.
I was looking into this since COBB removed their flexfuel sensor for my 04 STi I found this (your) video off their website. You have a strong and reputable following, as well as my respect as a mechanic. I hope that I'm not making a mistake by purchasing this product from this company.
@@chrisgraham8016 my buddy had an STI and it was COBB tuned and he blew the engine lol. I would be careful with tuning in general. Now without the COBB I can say this kit is safe as I have drifted with it and pushed my drift car real hard with no issues at all for 3yrs.
Super clear tutorial! The eflexfuel kit seems excellent: everything one needs and all of the features. Thanks for the thorough testing and the video! ❤
I do not wish evil on anybody, but I would like to see a Chris fix blooper reel video. If he hasn’t already made one this man never struggles on any car job ever.
This was 1.1TB of footage to make this one video. Most of my takes are bloopers lol. I do not speak and film at the same time very well. My brain cannot multitask haha
Fun fact, almost all cars in Brazil are flexfuel from factory and ethanol (110oct) is as common to find on pumps as gasoline and diesel (and our ethanol is made out of sugarcane)
And I wish the fossil fuel lobby and politicians in Germany didn't kill that option by raising the taxes on E85 to be similar to regular gas. Since cars use up to 1/3rd more when running E85, it became an even more expensive option and no one bought it anymore, so you can't get it anymore and no flexible-fuel vehicles are sold here. And after all that, now there are talks/demands to limit/reduce the maximum speeds everywhere to reduce the pollution from the vehicles, which could've beed prevented in the first place if not for the artificial tax... 🤡
I actually installed this after your christmas recommendation video two years ago! It was a lot of fun to to do and my mustang is so much faster after this mod!
That’s awesome to hear! I was gonna make the video after a year of testing it but I thought it wasn’t enough time so I waited. I’m glad you jumped the gun bc now we have 3 cars tested long term with good results haha.
Interesting idea there Chris. I had a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan with the 3.3L v6 from 2009 to 2017. It was able to run E85, so I ran a few "test" tanks. I found that I got 30-35% less MPG than E10-E15 (the usual "gas" now). So unless I found the gas price more than 30% less, which is rare...surprised you found it as low as you did. It wasn't worth it to me in the 09 Caravan to run it. Maybe it's less of a loss with a smaller vehicle (like the Prius or Del Sol)? Maybe a better test would be to put that kit into a larger vehicle like the size of my former 09 Caravan.
Fully agree. Don't forget to account for the $700 initial cost of buying the conversion kit (at least for my BMW Z4). You can buy a lot of gas for $700.
@@collincutler2278 Yeah. I don't drive my car a ton since I work from home. Did some calculations and it would take me around 6 years of fully filling my tank to "recover" the $700 of the initial cost. Maybe it makes more sense on a track car to get more HP and pay less, but not completely on a daily commuter.
Probably the factory flexfuel is not so accurate to determine the ethanol content from the lambda sensors vs ethanol sensor in the eflexfuel kit. Thats why the factory ecu is adjusting the mixture too rich.
I had a 2010 Ford Fusion V6, could run on E85 from the factory. I found that it was around 20-25% less efficient on E85, so I think it depends on the load being put on the engine. The V6 from the caravan was putting out 175 HP for a 4300lb van, whereas the Fusion had 240 HP for a 3300lb sedan. I only ran E85 a few times out of curiosity, because the savings on the cost per gallon was offset by the loss of efficiency.
100% sure you won't save money BUT if you have a boosted car that has a turbo or supercharger and get it tuned to work with the super high octane fule you can get more power! You don't do this modification to save money though. Even if you could drive for a few cents a mile less you would have to do lots of driving to recover the expense and effort of making the car flex fule. Unless you are distilling your own alcohol (yes that's something you can do but it's not easy) it's going to cost you more or similar per mile driven because even if per gallon it's less expensive each gallon won't go as far. It's hard to describe but If you have driven a supercharged car you know the fun of pulling on to the highway and being at speed before you're off the on ramp. Not a practical nessesity but very fun, especially if it's a DIY mechanic project.
Just saw the colab you did with donut media. it was amazing getting to see 2 channels i really enjoy collide. lol my mind was blown when i saw the drive way pop up.
I do agree with the first 2 points you made about E85 being good, but the 3rd is up for debate, there's a lot of nuance surrounding that subject, such as the tilling of the land for growing corn specifically for ethanol releasing the carbon dioxide that's trapped in the soil.
E85 is 100% worth it! I converted my G20 M340i to Flex Fuel using bootmod3. If you’re daily driving it, it’s okay to run it at full E85. It may have a little hiccup starting up, but it’s completely fine. If you don’t like the long startup, you can always run a mix like E30 or E50. Everything that ChrisFix stated is true and clear.
@@chrisfixIf you end up running on full E85 with this hybrid prius, will the hiccups on start occur some warning lights, because hybrids have their own engine startup/shut offs during drive?
Hello Chris, I havent watched this video yet but I just wanted to reply to your newest video to thank you. I really like working on my car but I don't have any mechanical skills and thanks to your videos I can work on my car and make my car better without doing any damage. Chris! My dad has a Holden SS Ute that held fuel pressure for 6 months! Cranking should be the first and main method which I'm thankful that you mentioned :)
Yea I didnt know much about them 3yrs ago when they first reached out and I was skeptical which is why I had to do a more long term test. Apparently in some European countries they are really popular.
@@chrisfix I was skeptical as the price seemed to good to be true and I never heard of them before. This was a great video and I’m most likely going to give them a try.
Fantastic tutorial. I was curious about e85, not very common to see in Europe, there are a few gas stations in France that had it, but not much. Just a small detail I wanted to point out that I normally do to prevent a wrong wiper placement. I use electrical tape next to the wiper to make sure I don't skip a tooth that can make the wiper hit the A pillar. Nevertheless, glad to see you back.
Excellent, very well made. Impressive video on this install. Torque wrench included, very impressive! As always a very well organized and professional install. WELL DONE !
I am about to install this on my 2005 hummer H2. I was very hesitant with this company until I saw your video and it gave me confidence to buy it. Thanks a lot, Chris.
My Crown Victoria is E85 compatible from the factory and there have been times I've filled it completely with E85. Probably did it a handful of times before I realized the price meant nothing if I was getting 11 MPG or so meaning I had to refill more often even if I was technically paying less at the pump. I could see this being beneficial for smaller, lighter weighing passenger vehicles.
Hey Chris, Im just wondering, how is the supercharger video going along? I know, that its a pretty complex and time consuming job, but I know, that the video is going to be INSANE! Im also excited to see, how to do it, becouse I have similar plans myself, so Im super pumped for the video... Love ur work btw, insanely helpful videos :)
You are so professional, getting good angles even in all those tight spots you are a special kind of youtuber. No wasting time everything is nicely presented so people can go to the description and do it themselves. It's amazing the work you do and I hope you know it.
Just remember that ethanol is highly hygroscopic, meaning it will draw moisture from air and it will leech into the gas tank. The longer car sits and higher ethanol content in your fuel, the more water will be drawn into your gas tank, creating visible water-ethanol layer below the gasoline layer in phase separation. Fuel pump inlets usually are as low as possible in gas tanks so they will suck in the ethanol-water mixture first on which modern engines CAN'T RUN ON. You will be cranking that engine until all the water-ethanol phase is gone or something gives in and dies, probably the starter.
Fuel systems are sealed systems so this should really be minimal, doubt it would cause any problem. Chris mentioned not letting the E85 just sit in the tank longer than 6-7 months, so that would prevent the issue in the first place. I wouldn't want any fuel sitting much longer than that in the first place.
@@idabomb00 Does this mean that fuel stabilizers are useless? Will it hurt a lawnmower if you don't add fuel stabilizer to the gas tank for the winter? Or will it hurt a snowblower if you don't add fuel stabilizer to the gas tank for when it isn't snowing?
1 Thing you forgot to mention, while 1 liter of gasoline needs 14.7 liters of air (Stoichiometric ratio, or in other words, Lambda 1), E85 needs 9.7 liters, so you will need ~30% more from it. So the real price difference is not what you see at the gas station, but it is a saving if the E85 is cheaper by more than 30%. One interesting fact about E85, it cools the combustion chamber and air (like rubbing alcohol on your skin makes it cool because of the fast evaporation). If you check the Hoonicorn there are no intercoolers, only 2 big turbo at the intakes. For E85 you have to make absolutely sure that your fuel system is Ethanol-proof, which can cause leaks, low fuel pressure, etc. Great video Chris!
Yeah I know people who found out the hard way that E85 wasn't saving them any money because they were filling up more often due to the decreased MPG. Also acceleration takes a big hit due to having much less energy density.
With eFlex you get an average consumption increase worth only 10 to 25% with E85. Tried it with 3 different cars. Smaller Japanese cars get smaller increase on eFlex. My latest car got 40 horses more as well. I have saved about 3000 bucks in my past 10 years driving on E85. And had more octane and power than if I had used premium or even V-power...
I initially thought the same when I was researching before ordering my eFlex kit. I've been running it abt 1yr now. My real-world MPG hit has been closer to 1.5-2mpg under normal driving. The best explanation I can make for this is the ethanol sensor optimizes fueling for the exact E% rather than dumping in 30% over. I also notice my vehicle downshifts less when I have E85 in the tank, likely because it is making more HP/TQ at any given RPM. I credit the lower amt of downshifts with saving my MPG. This is one of those cases that the real world experience was more telling than any of the research I made, haha. For me, I have saved considerably when I can run E85 (I will also fill up gas if E85 is nowhere near).
Great content and from my experience in carburetors with very little modifications this is fantastic fuel. I’ve converted 2 classic tractors, one self propelled lawn mower, one ATV and one Swisher pull behind finish mower over 3 years ago with zero issues. No moisture issues, even after winter storage! No degraded fuel lines, fuel tank or carburetor issues whatsoever. Burns far cleaner than gasoline without the awful exhaust smell on classic engines without all the pollution control gadgets. I will be converting my 2001 fuel injection Dodge Ram with this kit. You will burn more fuel with E-85 which is more than offset with the fuel costs savings. Yes it will start in winter on a carburetor engine with either manual choke or preheat carb on small engine with a blast of warm air from a hair dryer or heat gun. Only takes about 15 to 30 seconds of warm air on the carb. Don’t believe all the bad rumors on E-85. Great cleaner, cooler running fuel. As a bonus your oil will stay cleaner longer than it will with gasoline. 😊
Could you give us an updated when you're done with your Dodge Ram conversion? I have a 2001 F-150 I'm interested in converting and was hoping to hear from another truck owner.
Your attention to detail never fails to amaze me! I wonder if there are kits that work for european fuel. If i am not mistaken, we have different ethanol contents and even a different octane system.
I’m so glad company make prebuilt kits like this it makes it so much better for everyone involved!! My supercharged 4Runner going to eat this up!! Thanks Chris!! 🫶
This reminds me of how we have dual fuel setup where one is normal Octane and the other is CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). CNG costs pretty much half of octane but the trade off here is the life expectancy of engines go down significantly Regards from somewhere in Asia 😊
@@chrisfixI own a 1996 Toyota Corolla ae110. The car had a cng conversion done by its previous owner but we pretty much never used it ever since we got it because we never got the time to send it to a shop to remove it. We lost a decent chunk of trunk space due to the 60L cylinder due to the conversion sadly. You can toggle the fuel setting with a switch. It either runs entirely on gasoline or CNG. The car starts on gasoline but 3-5 seconds later it can go to CNG if you have it that way. This modification is a very common mod (even though it’s detrimental for the engine) in my country

Thanks for sharing! That is awesome!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Also, we have pure ethanol (E100) in every gas station.

This is a great change! Especially when the gas prices have risen. Thanks Chris! And also its better for the environment too! What a change!
Hahaha ethanol is not better for the environment. Look at the subsidies that have caused massive deforestation and land damage. Also because it’s subsidized we feed it almost exclusively to cows, instead of having more grazing cows.
It's usually balanced out by the fact that you get 15~20% less gas mileage on e85

Here is my experience:
E85 does not cause issues to the fuel system.
@@samm3980 only one way yo find out lol
Definitely report back! I am curious to hear what your results are!
Thanks so much! I appreciate that and yes very nervous about this move but hopefully it allows me to make more videos more quickly with my own space.
@@chrisfixwe got your back!
Happy to hear that you're enjoying the benefits of E85
Sallam alikum Chris! Last time i saw any videos from you was 3 years ago. This video is so informative and straight to the point. Love it! you've improved your channel significantly. Keep it up!
It's a very special day when Chris posts a video
Don’t worry Chris, everyone needs time for certain things. Just glad to get another informational/educational vid from you
⚠️Notice to everyone:
If do you decide to do this you will want to do more research.
A reply from ChrisFix underneath another comment:
"e85 doesnt cause issues on anything 2001 and newer. The gaskets/seal are mandated to worth with ethanol. Even 1992 and newer shouldnt have any problems but they were only supposed to run on e10."
@@SkylineLofe Thanks for that.👍
No harm basically in any vehicles that has a electronic fuel injection. eFlexfuel has database and testing for over a decade converting different brand of vehicles and combined mileage is something over 2 billion miles world wide.
So yea, it has been tested.
I’ve been watching you for years. So cool you are about to hit ten million subscribers, you’ve earned it. I appreciate every video you have done.

@chrisfix what a well explained installation!!! 👏👏👏 truly amazing work!!! So happy everyone can see all the benefits that can be unlocked in their vehicles with the @eflexfuel kit and E85 🌽 ⛽️ I just got back from a 1000 mile California road trip in my Element running this kit and wow!!! I always learn a lot in your videos and I like it because it's fun to watch.
Even though my car is already flex, almost every car here in Brazil is and every gas station has ethanol, gasoline and diesel.
I was looking into this since COBB removed their flexfuel sensor for my 04 STi
I found this (your) video off their website. You have a strong and reputable following, as well as my respect as a mechanic.
I hope that I'm not making a mistake by purchasing this product from this company.
I'm wondering the same thing! I have an 06 STI swapped GC and was thinking I could stack this with my COBB tune. I wonder what @chrisFix thinks?
@@chrisgraham8016 my buddy had an STI and it was COBB tuned and he blew the engine lol. I would be careful with tuning in general. Now without the COBB I can say this kit is safe as I have drifted with it and pushed my drift car real hard with no issues at all for 3yrs.
@@chrisfix Thanks! Good to know. I'm thinking I'll give it a go and if I need to replace the motor oh well because that's owning a Subaru! Lol

@@chrisfix yoooooo you’re a car legend so hyped you replied and I would of never guessed!
Good to see another video from you. Always love your filming style. Good luck with getting the move done
Thanks a lot!!!
Thanks!
@@chrisfixIf you end up running on full E85 with this hybrid prius, will the hiccups on start occur some warning lights, because hybrids have their own engine startup/shut offs during drive?
BMWs love the e85 mix, my e60 535i was a beast on it, thinking i might try on my F86 X6M
@Micco85 usually when the engine is cold it takes about 2-3 seconds longer to start up
Hello Chris, I havent watched this video yet but I just wanted to reply to your newest video to thank you. I really like working on my car but I don't have any mechanical skills and thanks to your videos I can work on my car and make my car better without doing any damage. Keep up the good work! greetings from the Netherlands.
Chris! My dad has a Holden SS Ute that held fuel pressure for 6 months! Cranking should be the first and main method which I'm thankful that you mentioned :)
Dang that’s a really tight fuel system! My mustang bleeds off in 15 seconds haha.
I've actually been wanting to do this. Looking forward to learning how!
Perfect! Now you know the process!
I found this company a few months ago and was unsure if they were reputable but this makes me more inclined to purchase from them.
I do like the perfectionism in your work thanks Chris
I love your videos brother you are a blessing for the car community ❤ 👍👍
Thank you.
Definitely depends on the car and fuel economy you're getting with e85
You're completely right. That means more visits to the gas station 😅. That's why I no longer use it in my Chrysler 200
It's great know Chris isn't going to just push bad products. It's very reassuring getting the chrisfix stamp of approval
Hey Chris,
Im just wondering, how is the supercharger video going along?
@@AutoAddicted427I started a car a few months ago that had gas from 6 years ago. It seemed to run fine.
@@padraicfanning7055 I believe it will be fine as long as water doesn't enter the fuel tank
Can you do a video on how to swap the front end of any car to a fiat multipla front end. This is what we all truly need
Chrisfix never fails to teach me something new 🙏
Great content and from my experience in carburetors with very little modifications this is fantastic fuel.
You are letting the driftstang behind bro we love it ❤

It’s been long time chris, youtube is nothing without you.
Your attention to detail never fails to amaze me! I wonder if there are kits that work for european fuel. If i am not mistaken, we have different ethanol contents and even a different octane system.
You can convert your car for E85 in Europe. With kits or reprog of the car ;)
The octane system doesn't matter, it's the same fuel with different labels. As for the ethanol content, this system is made to measure it anyway.
don't plan on doing this like ever, but i cannot miss a chrisfix video. ily chris

This reminds me of how we have dual fuel setup where one is normal Octane and the other is CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). CNG costs pretty much half of octane but the trade off here is the life expectancy of engines go down significantly
Regards from somewhere in Asia 😊
Interesting that is pretty cool!
