    Some years back, My daughter and I were needing a light box and didn’t have one...she brilliantly came up with using a clear glass 9x13 casserole dish, turned on her cell phone flashlight and put it underneath, put work on top, It worked perfectly!

    Oh, MERCY, Julia!!! My fave bird, which I haven’t seen since my childhood in Wisconsin is the English Robin😍, and I sooo Luuove your PRECIOUS bag design. Can’t purchase it till my social security check arrives at the end of the month; BUT, puleeeze, save one of these aDORable birdie bags for me!!! As a small child, when I would ask my mother how she had discovered I had done something wrong, she would wink and respond with, “A little robin told me.” 😂 It will be my 76th birthday present to myself! ❤️😜👏

      Hi Bonnie, I'm so glad you like my little bird! I live in MN most of the year and have robins in abundance too. If I'm out of the bags when you are ready to purchase, I will make you one:) Thanks for watching. Julia

    a light pad...22 bucks and i love it.. julia i love all your work. its so satisfying to watch you work and know its something i too can do. but my sewing machine is the cheapest Brother on the market so i cannot lower feed dogs. but i want to so much do free motion embroidery. i guess its hand emboridery for me eh?🎉

      @stitchesbyjulia  9 місяців тому

      I’m so glad you are enjoying my videos. With some machines instead of lowering the feed dogs with a lever you can cover them with a plate. You may want to ask a sewing machine dealer. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Julia, your video cheered me up on what was a blah and cheerless day. You are always so enthusiastic and your stitching and designs are so inspirational! I'm hoping to stitch some birdies on a sweatshirt later today. I also found your older vid on the cactus garden applique and I just loved that for a pillow or on a sweatshirt. You never fail to inspire and motivate me! Thank you so much for your videos.

    Hi Julia this is just gorgeous, I love it. I really love the use of the pencils to add subtle colour and interest. It really brings everything together in a naturally harmonious way. What a lovely thing to do for your friends, the winner of this beautiful bag will be thrilled, I know I would be. By coincidence I was on a free motion workshop today making a lampshade, I still struggle with free motion but is is coming slowly. Tomorrow I am going to my textile group session and we are mark making so I am looking forward to that too. Julia what I love about your fabulous work is that everything always looks fresh and fun, you are a real inspiration to mr, thank you. Sending you much love as always, have a fantastic Sunday. Hugs and loves xxxxxxxx Dorothy ❤️

      Hi Dorothy, I love how you are able to take so many different classes. It sounds so fun. I have to see if there are any offered around here- also your textile group sounds amazing! I am really enjoying my Inktense pencils. I hoarded them the first year that I got them ( why do I do that!) But know I am learning to just "go for it" and not worry if it isn't perfect. Thanks so much for watching:) Julia

    LOL exactly what I would do, iron off the design =) I really want to learn to do the writing, especially scriptures, that way I can choose my own special ones. One of your videos shows using the clear sulky water soluble to draw and stitch over the applique, so that's my first project (when it gets delivered =) Thank you for showing this technique, this is such a great thing to do and a beautiful little purse for someone, too.

    Hi Julia. Such an adorable birdie. Love the fabric you used on the head, wings and tail. Smart idea working with the blender and putting the 600 in a water pen. I'm starting to gather up a few of those pens now for several uses. You can make your own Dylusion paint pens by grating the Dylusion paint sticks and adding water and putting that into the pens. They used to sell grater caps on small glass storage bottles and I got 3, but haven't seen them since. Anyhow...love your creative bag and I'm sure it will be a popular draw at the auction.

    Hi Julia, I have never heard of “bobbin thread” except by you. What is it, and where do you purchase it? I have found that people that work at JoAnne Fabrics don’t know much when it comes to thread and needles. I have learned through hit and miss, what works best for my piecing and basic stitch in ditch quilting. I want to do free motion quilting, but haven’t attempted yet. Mostly I am intimidated by the concept, so I want to “play” with picture type journal pieces to gain some skill set. Peace.

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  5 років тому +1

      Hi Monica, Bobbin thread is thinner than most top threads. I especially like it when sewing decorative stitches. The thread seems to lay smoother. It is quite strong and is 100% polyester. I only have it in black and white. Here is an amazon link to what it looks like but you can probably find it for less at some fabric stores. amzn.to/2t7J53p . Free motion stitching is really fun and addicting. Start small. I used to stitch around appliqués and patches to practice. Once you get the motion down it's really quite easy. Have fun! Julia

      Hi, I purchase them through a supplier. I think you need an account but once you sign up there are no minimums. It is: www. alphabroder.com. The bag is an Authentic Pigment brand and the style # is 1906

    Love your work

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  5 років тому +2

      Hi Susan, Pricing is so hard! I try to make more than one to decrease my labor. If I price it too high, it sits for along time, too low and it doesn't pay to create! I usually try to double my cost of goods and then pay myself so much per hour. Hope that makes sense! Julia

  • @tinainglima
    @tinainglima 6 років тому +1

    What kind of sewing machine do you need for that kind of stitching?

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  6 років тому

      Hi Tina, Most sewing machines have the capability of free-motion stitching. The feed dogs need to be disabled. On most sewing machines this is done with a button or a slider button. Some machines have a plastic plate to cover the feed dogs. It should say in your manual. You also need a free motion foot. This sometimes is called a darner foot. Your sewing machine dealer will know which one will fit your machine. They come in short shank and long shank. Besides that is just takes practice. It is really fun and addicting once you get the hang of it. Julia
