Welcome y'll. This is such an inspiring tutorial. I'm so happy you're settled in. Beautiful work.
Hi Marion, So good hearing from you! Thanks for watching! Julia
Julia, this is such a cute journal cover. Love that you used a tarp and incorporated the paint smear into the design. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Gloria! Yes the drop cloth works great for this project- you would have guessed!
So inspiring! I could watch your videos all day.
I have watched many videos teaching many steps on makin a journal. This is by far the most comprehensive of any I have watched. I learned so so much from you. I feel confident now on how to make a great fabric cover journal. You just made my night. I will be getting a crop o dile for sure now and I was very undecided before this video. My gosh I so appreciate this video and your hard work makin it. Thank you so much
Wow you do such amazingly beautiful work thanks so much for sharing i became a new fan just a week or so ago. Your such an inspiration im addicted now lols😃

Hi Tina, Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. It is so much fun hearing where everyone is from. Such an awesome sewing community that we have here on UA-cam! Julia
Super cool! I would like to try this out, one day. 😊 great video 💙🐝💙
Hi Julia, one of your admirers here! lol Love this video so much it inspired me to go and purchase your pattern. I just have a question, what can I substitute for the Pellon? For the life of me I can't find it anywhere! Any suggestions as to what can be used if I want to use quilting fabrics instead of heavier fabrics to make the journal cover? Thank you for your help and thank you for your videos, I have now found a new craft to help me with handling of the anxiety caused by this pandemic.
Hi, Any heavier stabilizer would work. Sometimes it is called CraftBond. In this video, I use the the double-sided iron-on Peltex but a single-sided iron-on will also work. I hope you give it a try! The quilting fabrics will work great with the heavier stabilizer. Hope this helps, Julia
Super cute! Do you have a link to the Peltex? Thank you!💖💖💖💖
Hi, Here's the link to the Peltex- amzn.to/2D4JfzR. This is the 2-sided fusible that I used in the video. Thanks so much for watching! Julia
You make everything look so beautiful and effortless. Wherever did you get that beautiful, big ball of sari silk? I have the hardest time finding any. Thanks for all your shares!
Tami Sylvester eBay sells sari silk ribbon.
Oh! I love it you are the best there is. I read your reviews and it’s the way I feel you inspire us. The only thing I want is more tutorials from you. Lol more of sweet Julia. I love what you share and appreciate your time.
Hi Tami, I get my sari from an Etsy seller. Her shop is- www.hippiechixfiber.etsy.com. Thank you so much for watching! Julia
@@stitchesbyjulia thank you so much, I will definely check that out!
Love the mannequin stamp does it have a name I could not find it on unity please
Hi Mary, Years ago I was a member of the Unity stamps of the month club. It was a way to build up my stamp collection. I only stayed a member for 6 months. The mannequin stamp is from the December 2015 SMAK kit. Unity sells some past kits but they are pricey. Thanks so much for watching, Julia
where do you purchase your sari ribbon?
Hi, I get most of my sari ribbon from Etsy shops. Several different shops sell it - just search for it on the Etsy site. Thanks so much for watching, Julia
Wow I love love these covers. The possibility’s thank you for sharing. Val🇨🇦🇬🇧❤️
Hi Val, Yes so many possibilities! I have been having so much fun with this industrial canvas tarp! My husband hasn't even missed it yet:) Thanks for watching!

Hi Julia - These are all so adorable. I love to watch you create. Learn so much just watching you. Enjoy the sunny weather. Hope you are near a beach. Hugs! 🤗🤗🏝🏖🌞
Hi Pam, We are about 1/2 mile from the beach so walk or ride bike there nearly everyday. The exercise is doing both my husband and I good! Thanks for watching. Julia
Oh how fun Julia. Are you on the gulf side or Atlantic side? I love the gulf side. My fave place to go. Maybe you could do a video one day of your walk to the beach and show us the beach. Would be so nice to see the beach.
Your creativity amazes me .... Love all of the journals !!! Thanks again for sharing !!!
Nice tutorial !! I like sewing crafts !!
How would you adjust the size if you want to include space for three signatures?
Wow Julia you are clever crafter 🌝
Love your creativity.
Fun tutorial. Thanks! You make me think I can do this!
You can do it!
OH my Gosh ! This is a beautiful project. You are so creative, and have wonderful ideas. Thanks so much for sharing your work. Bravo!
Thanks for watching Janet! It's always so good hearing from you. These little journals go together so quick! I will be adding many to my shop for Christmas shopping. Have a great day. Julia
I went to the Thrift store and found a fabric they use for cross stitch so I tried your idea I messed up big time so the first one is mine. it turned out so cute. no lining or pocket. but I love the way it turned out anyway. had to sew around a few times Cuz it frays thank you so much for the tips. I had to sew my papers in Cuz I messed that up too. after I decorated my pages it all came together love it
Hi Susan, I am so glad you had the chance to try this project. I think these would make great gifts. Have a creative day! Julia
Oh Julia these little beauties are so lovely I think your work is just fabulous so thank you for always being so generous with us all. I know that we all appreciate your kindness and in sharing your gorgeous makes with us. The fabric reminds me of the dust sheets my love Dad used when he was decorating our house, these would be splattered with paint as he used to drape them over the furniture and all over the floor, how I wish I had some of these now. I am amazed how beautiful your covers turned out even though it is industrial fabric, you are a magic fairy Julia🌟. I picked up the three youngest grandchildren tonight to stay with me for a week during the half term holiday and I have lots of crafting plans for them including Fabric painting. All these projects will be made up as Christmas gifts for their wonderful Mum and Dad - it is such fun creating with children. Julia I would love to make a journal but haven’t the faintest idea of how to put one together- would you be able to make a short tutorial on this - I would love to make some for my crafting friends. Thank you Julia. Sending you all my love as always- big hugsxxxxxxxx🙋🏻😘❤️ Dorothy
Hi Dorothy, Who would have thought that an old industrial drop cloth would make such a great cover for a journal?! I love how the Inktense works on it for adding color. Enjoy your week with your grandchildren! It's so much fun crafting with kiddos:) I will do a video on how to put together a simple journal. Always good hearing from you! Julia
My first time watching your channel. I’m impressed and fascinated. What a tremendous idea. Thank you!
Hi, Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching! Have a creative day! Julia

Super cute idea!!♥ I use Pellon Peltex for making my fabric postcards...good stuff :) You have so many fun projects, Julia ♥ Thank you!!
Absolutely gorgeous journal covers . May I ask please - what size machine needle is suited to sewing through the heavy weight peltex ? Thank you for the great tutorial ! Kind regards - Judi - Australia
Hi Judith, I use a size 14 sharp needle for the Peltex. Thanks for watching!
adorable! thanks for the tutorial
I love these covers. Ive never tried free form stitching bit it looks doable and fun. I like the appliques and the stamping. I like the elastic binding method, use it all the time too.
Thank you so much for watching. I hope you give free-motion stitching a try. It takes a bit of practice but is really fun. Julia
Thank you for your tutorial. Beautiful design.
Love these!!! thanks for sharing!!
How very sweet!!!!! Can't wait to try these!!!! The Llama one in your nxt video is that made from the drop cloth? It looks suede to me very sweet as well. Possibilities are endless. Thx for the inspiration!!!!!!
Hi, Yes, the llama in the next video is made from the same drop cloth. I am having so much fun with that fabric ( my husband hasn't missed it yet either :) The possibilities are endless for sure!
You are very inspiring and I thank you for sharing, have a blessed day.
Is pelted the same as buckram ? I’m in the Uk and buckram is very stiff interlining that you can but with or without adhesive.
Hi, Yes the peltex is similar to buckram.. It is a heavy, stiff, stabilizer. I'm using the double-faced adhesive. Thanks so much for watching! Julia
love your ideas
Love your journals, and projects❣❣❣
Love, this journal covers. TFS
Where can you purchase the silk ribbon, loved your video. Such great detail, descriptions and so easy to follow
Hi, I purchase my silk ribbon from Etsy. You can search in Etsy. Several shops sell it. Thanks so much for watching. Julia
When you top stitched around the cover, did you go through the Peltex? Love the way you free motion stitch too...TFS
Hi, I do not stitch through the Peltex. I stitch approximately 1/8” away from it. That extra 1/8” gives it room to lay down flat once turned. Thanks for watching!
What an awesome cover. So fun. Doesnt the big bite squash the grommets down? I thought that's why everyone wants one of those. Hmmm.
Hi Marlene, Yes the big bite does the squashing but I have never gotten it to work properly. I need to practice more:)
I have a very simple singer sewing machine from the 80s can you get special feet to do free motion stuff with older machines? Or does it have to be a special fancy machine?
Hi, Yes you should be able to find a quilting foot to work for your older machine. Machine feet have either a short or tall shank. It should fit if you know which shank fits your machine.
Julia! What wonderful journal covers! All different and all adorable! I have to take a minute to go to the store but when I get back, I want to watch this video all over again! Seems strange to have to put on a jacket before I go out. Love this autumn weather!
Hi Phyllis, Thank you so much for watching and commenting. It is always so good hearing from you! There's nothing like nice Fall weather in the midwest! Miss it but will enjoy the Florida winters. Have a creative day! Julia
Can I do this without sewing? Is the fusible strong enough and to put the items on my cover use FafbricTac?
Hi, Yes you could. I have made journals similar with raw edges and the Peltex in-between the layers. Thanks for watching. Julia
Great idea!! I'm going to ad some pieces of fabric as a samples instead of paper!! thank you Julia!
Hi Ana, I love that idea!
Thank you 💞 for this great inspiration. 💞
Thank you Julia. I love all your videos.
Great ideas too 😄😄
brilliant use of drop cloth!
Love, absolutely love this! I’m binge watching your videos at the moment wanting to make it all! Just 1 quick question, please? What is the mat that you’re ironing on? I would love something big with measurements on thanks
Hi Stephanie, I am using a June Tailor's Press and Cut Quilter's mat. I really love it. It has a cutting mat on one side and a press mat on the other. It is great for a small space or for traveling. Here's a link: amzn.to/337NlS9 ( affiliate link)
stitchesbyjulia thank you so much for taking the time to reply!
It was the middle grommet that had me wondering. My Cropadile doesn't have the ability to reach in as far as yours, but I have everything else (all the tools and grommets) that I need to insert that middle hole. I had some fabritac that was so thick it wouldn't budge out of the bottle and read that it could be thinned with nail polish remover. I slowly added it and stirred it in, then would let it sit, and repeated the mixing until it perfectly thinned out for me to use. I love all your covers and have some beautiful fabric that can be used instead of sitting in the cabinet. As far as the paper inserts, I'll use Sue B's journal instructions and fill the journal with various kinds of paper, and not the tea stained paper. I love that bunny that you put on one of your journals...I like the way you design your covers, using bits and pieces that all work together. By the way...a weather report .... Looks like March will come in like a lion, (more like a cub lion)...so March will hopefully be a good month.....then on into the spring that I hope will be kind to us.
Hi Phyllis, Wanted to let you know I just filmed another fabric journal cover video this week. I used a thrifted pillow for the fabric. It will be uploaded hopefully at the end of next week. I don't cover anything new but it's a fun way to use a thrifted item in a new way. Have a great day! Julia
stitchesbyjulia Hi Julia, Thanks for letting me know about the new fabric journal video that you hope to be posting next week. In the meantime I have an old planner with a great cover that I. hope to turn into something cool....not necessarily to sell, but to give to someone as a cool gift. Anyway it keeps my brain active and that's a fun thing and a good thing.
wow, just came across you . such a beautiful art ! ty for sharing
Thank you so much!
they are gorgeous!!
Hi, do you change the sewing foot on your machine from free motion to normal foot when you topstitch and stitch around edge of Peltex? Thank you. I am new to this and love 🥰 your tutorials.
Hi, yes I do. Thanks for the question, I will make a note to make this more clear. Happy Stitching, Julia
