I love my Derwent inktense pencils, I paint on gallery size art pieces with simple ease...my favorite medium also
Yes please l would like more tutorials using the pencils.
Ah, muslin. I just bought these so perfect timing. But had problems with bleeding when I added the water, using regular material. Out comes my muslin and thanks for the explanation of what calico is!
Thank you for the demo!
Cheers Cathy! Glad you enjoyed it. Please consider subscribing to my UA-cam channel for more INKtense videos, quilting tutorials and more coming soon! Many thanks
Yes I would love to see some more videos of using the inktense pencils. I am thinking of using them on Elizabeths lost dress pattern. I would like to make a quilt in calico for my mother as she love that look and I thought these would give a delicate look and add a little bit of colour. I was concerned about whether they bleed around the edges but you have answered that question.
Unwashed calico is the bees knees.
@@HelenGoddenQuilts Yes. I once made my mother a lap quilt that had lovely roses and violets on the front. and unbleached calico on the back.Very tasteful. I had quilted around the flowers. When I asked her why she had it displayed back out she said that she liked that side better than the from!
Please do more on Ink Intense videos. I had purchased earlier not understanding what it was. Thank you.
I would love to try inktense!
Yes please more Inktense.🙂
Thank you for another inspiring video. Yes I would like to see more on Inktense on fabric. I tried using them once or twice and was discouraged by the way they bled into the surrounding areas on the fabric
It’s all about the fabric choice.
Helen Godden Quilts Yes more inktense on fabric please!
Thanks this was great information, please post more inktense pencil work on fabric. 😊
More to come soon! Thanks Julie
Yes, please do more videos on how to use Inktense pencils.
Yes. I would like to see more demos
I used these INKtense pencils for my Flower Power blocks ..... but I used a gel medium, thank you for letting us know that if we use unwashed muslin fabric, using gel is not necessary to make the colour permanent. I had used a hot iron to also set the colour. Thank you for your information.
Thanks for sharing!! Glad this was helpful. Please consider subscribing to my UA-cam channel for more INKtense videos and quilting tutorials coming soon!
I am enjoying the new dimensions my fabric art is taking with INKtense pencils so any & all tutorials on their use will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you Marian. Have been working on some new INKtense content coming soon. Please Subscribe for more quilting education and inspiration.
Yes please. More intense painting.
Great video, thank you for sharing your expertise. If you were using intense on another fabric other than calico would you use a gel to help control it , if so what would you use.
Aloe gel or fabric medium
I would so love to see more of your work with inktense, I have the pencils and the blocks but still learning. Is there a way that is something does bleed and you really don't like it can it or how can it be fixed, is there a way to "rub it out" thanks
No there is no rubbing out. You can dab off excess colour while it is still wet. But once it has bleed into a wet area it keeps sharing the colour. If you work more systematically one area then another that aren’t touching each other and then wait till an area is dry before you go back there, no bleed.
I would love more about inktense pencils! Your tutorial s are wonderful! Thanks for sharing your wonderful talents! I would love to buy the inky drawing on the fabric. Any chance of that?
Hello Sharon Sorry I missed your comment. Would you like to purchase the piece I used in the demonstration? Just $20. Postage in Australia would be included but postage outside Australia would be extra. Email me on helen@helengodden.com and let me know either way. If your in Australia please send me your postcode too.
Thanks for your interest
I would love to see more videos both on Inktense pencils and the Inky Blocks. Are the prints available on plain unwashed calico? Love watching your videos. They are so inspiring.
Hi Chris Francis, not yet but my daughter and I will be printing some Inky Blocks on calico this weekend! Will be posted to my website shortly! Many thanks for your support
Please make more Inktense videos. I would like to know more about how to avoid bleeding, colouring on coloured cotton (quilting) fabric, washing the design, does the colour need to be set (eg heat set with an iron), also blending colours. Thanks.
All that and more coming soon.
Thank you so much for this video. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my pencils , had no idea how to use them . What sort/size of brushes do you recommend?
Judy Hamilton the brushes I use in this video are synthetic Taklon brushes. I like a mix of round pointed tip and flat square ended brushes in different sizes. helengodden.com/product/brush-set/
Hi Helen,, I would love you to show a little bit about how to do the pastel shades for colouring with embroidery. It is a bit different to the bright colors . Do you use a textile medium? in place of water or after water . I am not sure how to start. Thanks..
You can see in the background of this piece I applied very little pencil and very lightly to obtain the pastel shade. The blue I used, if applied heavily is super bright blue. Less pigment and more water = pastel shades. Think of water as white, if you are on a white background fabric.
So very little pencil and water = pastel
Love to see a few more tutorials on Inktense pencils - mine have just arrived. Do you sandwich together before you start on just do the painting on the fabric alone? Thanks :)
Good question. I just paint on the fabric alone on a flat surface. Once dry, I sandwich and free-motion quilt. Thanks!
Please do more with intense pencils especially on fabrick. I just bought a set and want to paint on blouses and such.
join me at 10am (canberra australia time) Friday 26th March here in youtube for my latest INKtense tutorial.
This was very helpful. I'm looking into using watercolor pencils (or now, maybe INKtense pencils) to create background tinting for embroidery. Do these inks produce any sort of toxic fume?
No fumes. Perfect for soft embroidery backgrounds - excellent idea.
more demos please :)
Love all the artwork, beautiful work thanks for sharing your artwork with us. I have a question, kindly suggest me can I use Derwent pencils on which already printed fabric from market instead of I draw on plain fabric and then color with Derwent pencils.
Thankful for any suggestions.
Hi Saira, yes you can use Derwent INKtense pencils on other fabrics. However the pencils are transparent so wont show up on darker coloured fabrics. I painted onto unwashed calico fabric to stop the pencils from bleeding.
@@HelenGoddenQuilts Glad to see your response, thank you so much for your suggestion, I appreciate that, love your all videos .
Thanks for the info. If you use the block in a quilt and wash it, does it still retain the color? And, if so, how many washes? Thanks again.
That is a tough question. It would not wash off but would fade over time.
This was fantastic. Great tutorial. Can I draw an image with Sharpie markers and then color it in? Can I use other color Sharpies other than black? And of course more, more videos❗☺
If you plan to sharpie first I suggest iron after the sharpie is dry, then colour. Yes you can use any colour Sharpie.
@@HelenGoddenQuilts
Thank you. You are so generous with your talents.☺
Yes please. More demos. Are the Inktense pencils suitable for children's fabric books. Does the colour last through washing? 😀
For a few washes yes. Not heavy weekly laundering.
More please 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
they are beautiful co;lours
I prewash all my fabric... what’s the effect I use that stash ...
Is there a certain brush to use with the pencils? I’m in the US.
Any brush really. I use a soft Taklon synthetic style brush usually say square end 8mm wide. Or a water barrel brush.
Please more tutorials on inkyense pencils on fabric.
Hi Helen, I am interested in those Ink Blocks that your daughter does.
They are on my website. helengodden.com/product-category/painting-supplies/inktense-pencils/
Helen the calico you use seems very white the one I have is more cream I have washed & ironed, does it make a different the sort of calico used as I seem to be having problems with the material bleeding ?
Karyn Fraser the key is not to wash your calico! The calico has sizing in the fabric that stops the paint/INktense pencils from bleeding. Unwashed* calico is my secret. Good luck!
There is bleached and unbleached calico. Sounds like you have unbleached.
Are the colors from Inktense pencils permanent and washable once dry? Should they be heat-set?
JoAnn Fabric's has muslin here in the U.S., but it isn't stiff, so the Inktense bleeds significantly. Other than calico or muslin, is there another name for the fabric you recommend?
Whatever it is called is kind of irrelevant. What’s important is whether it passes the Water Flick test. Flick water on the unwashed fabric and see if it bleeds or beads. We want beads.
Please do more inktense and fme Thank you
I was thinking of doing this on cotton masks .. can you wash it afterwards ??
yes you can
How did you put this stencil on that you are painting?
Hi Helen just a question how does it wash
Hi Tracy, I have not washed my INKYblocks or INKtense pencils before, but both are designed to be washable. However, I would expect the pigments to fade slightly overtime. Hope this answers your question
If I accidentally draw in the wrong place of a fabric. Is there anyway to remove it completely
not really. You can add water and then dab dab dab with clean paper towel.
Is it safe to wash or does it wash out? Ty:)
You said these become permanent once they are activated with water and dried. Does that mean you can wash them? And the color Remains the Same?
Is it washable?
I am new to this. When all is said and done is a finished project washable or not?
It can be hand washed but if thrown in washing machine on a regular basis it will fade out. These pencils are more suited to wall art quilts than regular washable quilts.
@@HelenGoddenQuilts thank you.🙂
@@HelenGoddenQuilts thank you 🇨🇦
great but how did you transfer pattern
to muslin
