- This tutorial will show you how to separate audio tracks in OBS Studio. This method will allow you to split audio in OBS, with music, Discord and game sound all being on individual tracks. Separating audio tracks will allow you to record each application on their own track. This makes editing videos easier as you can edit each track separately. Additionally, splitting audio tracks in OBS is also useful for streaming. With each application split inside of OBS you can individually control their volume. Allowing you to customize the sound of your stream and fine-tune it as needed.
With split audio tracks in OBS you can also control what is being herd on your VOD track much easier. This will allow you to choose what applications are saved to your past broadcast on Twitch.
To seperate Discord, music, game, and microphone sound you will need to use application audio capture source. This source will allow you to capture the audio from a specified application. You will need to go through and add each application that you want to capture as their own source. By splitting the audio like this you can also apply filters to each source individually.

I have 1 big problem that no one talks about: Do I have to add each game individuially to the mixer? Because if yes, that will be a hot mess imo ... Otherwise its also enoying to switch to the game every single time ... Is there any good solution?
Thankyou! Your the only one I found that doesn't have us download extra software. Appreciate you!
You're welcome!
I was searching and searching and no videos worked even if I did exactly what was said. But your video helped me so much and after 4 minutes it was already working. I only am recording my gameplay of LSPDFR so I can rewatch or share clips of certain parts of my gameplay, so am very new to OBS; but this tutorial was so easy to understand and follow. All I can say is, thank you.
Great to hear that! Thank you!
I doesn't add a new audio on mine
you might need to turn on monitoring

Awesome, thank you!
Oh, Thank You! I thought I would have to buy hardware to manage all my audio and that thought overwhelmed me. Not the hardware so much, but all the cable management involved with it. 🙂
Glad I could help!
thank you, great tutorial

How do I capture my alerts through stream elements?
thank dude its very helpful!
Thank you! Happy to hear that
Thank you for this! To be clear- if I run all my games through Steam, would I still have to individually add audio for each game I play on stream or would adding Steam cover all games launched through it?
Thanks a lot for that !
You're welcome!
Ok so I’ve done this but the issue I’ve ran into is the my alerts aren’t coming though for my community anyone got any suggestions ?
Does anyone else have a problem with the application audio capture, to where it makes a crackling sound when playing from that app?
It was helpful thank u liked!
Thank you!
THANK YOUUU
You're welcome!!

You are welcome!
hi what music is that used in the background?
Hi, thanks for comment! I believe the song should be - "Rains Of Meghalaya - Hanu Dixit"
Hey, Is there a way to both enable the desktop and spotify tracks? The Desktop sound also captures Spotify but i want to remove the Spotify Music in Post without disabling the desktop audio.
I don't think this is possible
I want to listen to things while gaming with out it going out to stream through OBS, but muting the desktop audio in OBS also mutes my alerts.
Do you know how I can fix my alerts with out letting all of my computer sounds come through the stream?
so.. basically you want your stream audience to hear alerts but not the other sounds?
Is there a way to set it up so if I change games or discord channel it will auto change to it? And if I have it set to one discord voice chat and change to another will it change with it?
I believe where you will set there discord, it will capture discord sounds doesn't matter on what channel or which server on discord you are. Regarding games, I believe you have to add there every game you want to capture and then simply when you are playing the game it will capture sound.
Sadly no one who makes a video about it talks about the problems of the application audio beta. Many people have problems with 1: distorted sound happening randomly and 2: you can’t capture alerts via browser source with this (which is 90%) of every streamers alerts because you can’t capture obs itself
What are you talking about? I can clearly hear the alerts, and so can my chat. All I did was adding 2 set of the alerts. And monitored one of them for myself, and did not monitor the other set for the chat.
I had some issues today while splitting my browser audio sources and not being able to hear them/obs not capturing them like you said here, but with some help in the obs discord i was able to fix it! it has to do with the monitoring device/windows settings. not sure if you personally are struggling with this but the fix is in the "audio support" section of the obs discord if anyone is searching for solutions.
For some reason this is not capturing the audio of cutscenes in the game🤷♂🤷♂
is there a settings wrong with my obs? I cannot find twitch VOD track I only have audio track?
are you using normal OBS studio? or streamlabs OBS?
when i put it into OBS the tracks are all there but it all the audios play on the first track
nvm i have to make one audio per track
on my obs didnt have twitch vod track
what version of OBS are you using?
Music not working..
music through what software?
